00:00Western Europe has experienced its hottest June-July period on record as extreme heat, drought and wildfires continue to affect
00:08large parts of Northern Hemisphere.
00:10The World Meteorological Organization says July was also among the two warmest Julys ever recorded globally with temperatures 1.47
00:20degrees Celsius above the estimated pre-industrial level.
00:24Sea surface temperatures also reached a record high for July.

00:30Extreme heat is becoming more frequent, more intense, it's lasting longer and covering much wider areas than in the cooler
00:36climates of the past.
00:37Looking back in time, June 1976 is a really good example because June 1976 had a very similar pattern of
00:43high and low pressure, warmer and cooler areas to this year.
00:47But the picture for 1976 is one of a few isolated areas of above average temperatures in a much cooler
00:54world.
00:54And in 2026, the picture is reversed, it's one of a much warmer world with a few isolated areas of
01:00below average temperatures.
01:01Several Western European countries face another heat wave with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius expected.
01:08Scientists warn that longer, more intense heat is increasingly becoming the new climate reality.
01:17because of the restrictions, almost normal storms would be in the back of the past試 these days.
