Check out this heart stopping moment as a hiker loses her footing and slides uncontrollably down a steep snow covered mountainside.

Gülşah Tosun, from Erzurum, Turkey, was making her way down a difficult mountain while carrying a bag when she slipped on the snowy slope.

The video shows Gülşah desperately trying to slow herself down as she continues sliding down the steep mountainside, unable to regain her footing while gathering speed across the snow.

After several tense moments, she finally comes to a stop without suffering any serious injuries, avoiding what could have been a far more serious accident.

Gülşah said the incident happened because of overconfidence and a decision made in the heat of the moment, adding that no activity in nature should ever be taken lightly and that every step, every piece of equipment and every decision deserves careful risk assessment.

She hopes the video serves as a reminder that mistakes in the outdoors can have serious consequences and that proper preparation is always essential.
