00:00Commanders tight end Ben Sennett joining us. Ben, what's up man? How's it going guys? How is day one of
00:05camp for you?
00:06It was awesome. It's good to be back on the grass, man. It's been a long time coming. Long summer
00:11training and getting ready for it.
00:13So it's good to like see the work come out on the field. I was watching out there just trying
00:18to see people. Are they comfortable with the offense?
00:20How comfortable are you and do you feel things are coming along? Yeah, I feel very comfortable.
00:24I mean they did such a good job in the OTA period installing things and being able to look at
00:30it through the summer and expand on the why.
00:32Why are we doing this? What's everybody else doing on this play? What are we trying to get done?
00:37So feeling like really confident. That was one of my goals is to just be as confident as I can
00:41in the offense.
00:41I can come out here and just do my thing and play fast.
00:45You said maybe when we talked to mini camp or OTAs or something that you feel like this offense is
00:50better suited for your game.
00:51Can you help us understand that a little more?
00:54Yeah, for sure. You know, this offense is based off outside zone, play action, marrying concepts.
01:00And, you know, that's something I feel I'm very good at is running outside zone, running off the ball, moving
01:06around,
01:07lining up in different spots to just use my skill set.
01:10And I think this offense is so multiple in what we do, under center, play action, fakes, I think just
01:16really suits the way that I play.
01:19So, yeah, I'm really excited for it. That's the biggest thing.
01:22But defensively, you all added a lot of different people, different levels of athleticism.
01:28So I think back to when I got here early, our defense was probably as popular and as good as
01:36the offense.
01:36And I felt when we got in the football games, it was easy.
01:39Do you see that having that defense change up now is going to make it better for you in practice
01:44so you get into the game?
01:45Yeah, for sure, man. This defense is so talented.
01:48They do so many different things, put people in so many different places.
01:51So, like, being able to go against them and see different looks, go against different guys.
01:56Like, I'm going against Javon Kinlaw, and I could be going against Jordan McGee, like, just different body types, you
02:02know,
02:02preparing me for what I'm going to see on the field with what these NFL defenses do nowadays.
02:07What have you thought of Sonny early? Styles?
02:10I mean, he's so fluid.
02:11And obviously, like, the stature he has, however tall he is, and the way he can move.
02:17He's very fluid, very cerebral.
02:19Like, you can see how he's understanding the game and, like, really impressed with him,
02:24and especially off the field, like, such a good guy, and we've clicked really easily.
02:28That's cool.
02:29So, yeah.
02:29As I started watching the quarterback show on Netflix, and obviously, you know, I'm here,
02:35I interact with Jaden, whatever, but it's always different behind closed doors with your teammates, all that.
02:40You know, same draft class as Jaden.
02:42Yeah.
02:43He still seems to be the same dude.
02:45Yeah.
02:46Despite all of the ups, downs, the superstardom, all those things.
02:51What's he like for you guys, especially as you guys are learning a new offense together?
02:54Yeah, man, that's the cool thing about him.
02:56Like, he's so even keel, same person every day, whether we're in the NFC Championship
03:01or whether he's struggling with injuries, you know.
03:04The same guy shows up the same way each day, and he's the same way behind closed doors with us.
03:08And I think the QB1 stuff is so cool, you can kind of get a more inside look,
03:13at least from the fans' perspective.
03:14You guys kind of see him every day.
03:16But he's the same dude every day, which is so cool.
03:18Do you watch it?
03:19I watch a couple episodes, me and my wife will.
03:22But, yeah, it's cool.
03:23I like seeing that stuff.
03:24Like, if you're in a scene, will your wife get all excited?
03:28Oh, shit.
03:28Like, we'll laugh about it.
03:31But I'll be, like, in the background, oh, my gosh, yeah.
03:35But you can tell who's trying to get on the show as well.
03:38Like, coaches and teammates.
03:40Like, there's some people who are trying to, yeah.
03:44Mikey, go get on.
03:46I wasn't going to say any names.
03:47You can tell there's some guys trying to get on.
03:50That's just who he is.
03:51Yeah, 100%.
03:52He's the jokester.
03:53I just, guys like that, man.
03:55They kind of keep the theme going.
03:56Exactly right.
03:57Yeah, 100%.
03:58I'm curious for you, going into your third year now, like, are you doing anything differently?
04:04Not on the field, but, like, do you eat differently?
04:08Have you, like, more in tune with your sleep?
04:11Like, how do you figure that kind of stuff out?
04:13You know, I think, like, all the off-field is the biggest area where I've improved.
04:18It's, like, so I got married after my first year.
04:21So, like, now my wife's with me.
04:23She's an amazing cook.
04:24Like, she keeps it very healthy.
04:26So, she chefs it up, man, keeps us in a good spot, like, anti-inflammatory diet.
04:31What does that mean?
04:32I got a feeling my diet's very inflammatory.
04:35How does vodka fit in there?
04:38Inflammatory.
04:40Exactly.
04:41Man, it's, like, it's a 80-20, 90-10 split.
04:44You know, I enjoy myself.
04:46I got a sweet tooth every once in a while.
04:47But, like, taking care of the stuff off the field from a recovery standpoint, sleeping, eating right,
04:53getting your recovery, like, cold tub, massage, all that stuff.
04:57You kind of fine-tune it over the few years.
05:00And, like, you look at a guy like Zach Ertz and his consistency, his routine.
05:04I learned more off the field from Zach than I could have, you know, just watching him.
05:09So, that was the biggest thing, getting my routine right.
05:12Talking with Commander's tight end Ben Sinnott here.
05:14Kind enough to join us in the tent at, in Ashburn, BigBear.ai Performance Center.
05:19Day one of training camps in the books.
05:20You mentioned how much you learned from Ertz.
05:22Obviously, he was a huge presence here.
05:25He's a potential Hall of Fame type player.
05:27How different is it with Ertz gone, now Chig's in?
05:30I mean, that's a new room, right?
05:32Yeah, for sure.
05:33Yeah, definitely a different vibe in the room.
05:36But it's still good, you know.
05:37It gives me more opportunity to grow, more opportunity to, you know, go out there and earn it every day.
05:44And Chig's been a great addition to it.
05:45Like, he fit in very well with us.
05:47And, I mean, we've got such a talented tight end room.
05:49Like, it forces you to work.
05:51It forces you to grow each and every day.
05:53So, yeah, it's a really good vibe we have.
05:56I bet, man.
05:57What is it, a thing, like, over the, in your three years now that you've said, okay, I need to
06:03add this to my arsenal, to my, I guess what you call it, your preparation?
06:10Repertoire.
06:10Yeah, for sure.
06:12You know, one thing, like, I never thought about in college, but, like, mental preparation, as far as not even
06:19the playbook, not even any of that, but, like, mindset.
06:21Okay, I'm going to go out there and prove it every day.
06:25But if something goes wrong, I'm okay.
06:26You know, like, get back, next snap, Roger Federer, whatever, his famous speech, like, it's just a point.
06:33So, I think that was the biggest thing.
06:35I started working with a guy on my mental side of the game to prepare me, visualization, mental reps, and
06:41prepare myself before I even get on the field if something happens.
06:44So, that was the biggest thing that I added to my repertoire off the field.
06:50That's really interesting.
06:51That's really helped me.
06:51What prompted you there?
06:53Was it just something you thought about or a conversation you had?
06:56You know, I really struggled my first two years.
06:59It's a really frustrating feeling knowing what you can do, but having a Hall of Famer in your room.
07:05You know, like, I'm doing everything I can, making plays in practice, but we still got a Hall of Famer,
07:12you know, that we need to get the ball to.
07:13So, I think that frustration and things built up inside of me, like, I know I'm doing everything right.
07:21Like, I got this playbook dialed.
07:22I'm putting in the work.
07:23I'm showing up early.
07:24I know what I'm doing, but the opportunity still wasn't there.
07:29So, I think, like, being able to form that and turn it into good rather than keeping it all inside
07:34and then blowing up and getting frustrated for it.
07:37You know, turning that into something good.
07:39Are you seeing that work out for you?
07:41For sure, yeah.
07:42You know, it's allowed me to just play free.
07:46And, you know, it's just like my headspace and my mind is in a really good place.
07:49Like, I'm so confident going into year three, man.
07:52I remember being in this thing and being a return guy, doing stuff to help us.
07:59But when your mindset is like I was a quarterback, I'm like, man, I'm not doing it there.
08:03I remember Pete Rodriguez came in.
08:06He said, what you do directly impacts what this offense does.
08:11And he made me look at it in a different way, and it completely changed my mindset.
08:14He said, I went from being a disgruntled guy to a guy that couldn't wait to get on the football
08:19field.
08:20You know, and it made the world's difference.
08:21Like you said, it released a lot of that pressure from you.
08:24A hundred percent.
08:25It's cool to hear you two talk about those experiences because I think what gets lost on a lot of
08:30fans a lot of times is you were the best player in high school by a mile.
08:36You were one of the best players at Kansas State by a significant margin.
08:39You were the best player in the state of Louisiana.
08:41But you get to this level, and everybody's so freaking good that there's probably a recalibration of your brain.
08:48And that's got to be difficult.
08:50Ben Sennett, kind enough to join us here at training camp.
08:54All of our training camp coverage on 106.7 The Fan is brought to you by Paul Henry's Window Installation.
08:58PaulHenrysWindows.com, your clear home improvement choice.
09:01So you said you watched a little bit of quarterback with your wife.
09:05What are you guys watching?
09:07So you have a good dinner, no inflammatories.
09:10Then you're going to chill out.
09:13How does your evening go?
09:14No inflammatories.
09:17Man.
09:17That's all kind of funny, don't it?
09:19No inflammatories.
09:21No, we just finished Parks and Rec.
09:24Oh, I love that show.
09:25It's kind of like our mindless show.
09:28Sure.
09:28And then at night we'll really lock in.
09:31We're watching Silo.
09:32The new season came out of Silo on Apple TV.
09:35Sci-fi, right?
09:36I haven't watched it, but I've heard good things.
09:37So we're excited to get into that.
09:39But, yeah, we keep something where we lock in at night.
09:42And then, like, while we eat we'll watch something like The Office or Parks and Rec.
09:45Parks and Rec, so good.
09:47Yeah.
09:48Chris Pratt's character is just unbelievable.
09:51Yeah, it's an all-time.
09:51It is.
09:52It really is.
09:54I'm curious, growing up in Iowa, is that Cubs territory, Cardinals territory?
10:01Yeah.
10:01Like, as a kid, what teams did you root for?
10:04You know, it's like a really weird spot.
10:05You kind of got – you don't have any professional teams in the area.
10:09Like football, people go Green Bay, Minnesota, the Chiefs.
10:12Okay.
10:12And then you get a little Bears as well.
10:14We're kind of, like, all in the middle of those.
10:16Same thing, like Cardinals, Cubs, Royals.
10:22Pick of the litter.
10:23I know.
10:23You know, like, I was so busy I didn't even have a team growing up.
10:27Like, I was a big fan of players.
10:29Were you just playing sports all the time?
10:31Did you play everything?
10:32Yeah.
10:32I was, like, six sports even into high school.
10:34Like, I was playing six sports at a time.
10:35Six?
10:36Yeah.
10:36I went to a small private school, so I was playing baseball, basketball.
10:41I was playing hockey, baseball, football, golf, track, and tennis.
10:45Wow.
10:46Dude, how hard can you serve a tennis ball?
10:48Holy moly.
10:49Dude, I love tennis.
10:51Pretty hard, but that second one is going to be lobbing over.
10:55I missed the first one.
10:56Will you get to the DC Open at all?
10:58I know you're busy right now.
11:00It's a pretty fun event, though.
11:01I would love to get to a tennis match.
11:03I'd never have in my life, and I've heard it's awesome.
11:06So, yeah, I definitely want to get to one at some point.
11:09You know a guy here.
11:10Exactly.
11:11Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:13Hey, pull this.
11:14Hey, hey, Mark.
11:15Like, B will just text him, like, Mark, I need tickets.
11:18So, B, you've got to text him on Ben's behalf, dude.
11:21A hundred percent.
11:22Yeah, if it works out, I would love to see a tennis match.
11:24Yeah, because you guys have an off day Thursday, right?
11:27No, Friday.
11:28It's like, yeah.
11:29Friday's off day.
11:30Well, you're off for us.
11:31It might not be off for you.
11:33We're all probably coming in here.
11:35But, yeah, I'd love to.
11:37Dude, I don't want to hold you up.
11:38You've been very kind with your time.
11:40Is there anything you think Commanders fans don't know about you that you'd want them to know?
11:47Man, you know, just know that, like, I'm doing everything, everything I can.
11:52I think people get caught up in the stats a lot.
11:55And I think I'm able to just get some more opportunity this year to show what I can do.
11:59So, just, you know, stay patient.
12:01Allow me to do my thing.
12:02And I'm going to be excited for a big year, you know.
12:05Yeah.
12:06Well, we're wishing you all the luck.
12:08We really appreciate you making time for us today.
12:10Do you want to tell him how far you hit a golf ball?
12:13Or do we need to get out there together for you to see it?
12:15I think I'm going to get out there.
12:16I can imagine.
12:17I'll tell you, I play it without it.
12:18He can hit it, too, now.
12:19I've just got nothing on him.
12:21I can hit it far.
12:22I'm telling you, though.
12:23He can mash it, dude.
12:24Yeah.
12:25Didn't you win the long drive at Liv?
12:27Yeah.
12:27You know, I mean, I can hit it now.
12:30All right.
12:31Were there pro golfers in the long drive?
12:33Or was it just for the Celeste?
12:34They were playing from a different tee.
12:35Okay.
12:36But, you know, they put me on a launch monitor.
12:38One of the, Caleb Surratt, the second guy I played with.
12:41And, I mean, I was touching, like, 200 ball speed, 205.
12:45You didn't go to the long drive contest.
12:47I was, like, 350 carry on one of them.
12:49350 carry?
12:51Yeah.
12:51Was Bryson in the contest?
12:52He was.
12:53I don't know what he did on that hole, but, I mean, I won it.
12:57He was playing from a different tee, though.
12:58I was a little up.
12:59But, yeah, it was.
13:01Do you think that was a penalty on Bryson in the British?
13:04I don't know.
13:05I'm a Bryson fan.
13:06Okay.
13:06I might be criticizing that.
13:08He was tramping around in there pretty good.
13:10You know, like, there's always a.
13:11That last step where a step and a tall grand lay down.
13:15Yeah.
13:16I mean.
13:16They're going to get you.
13:17You know what you're doing.
13:18You know the rules.
13:18You know what's going to be questionable.
13:20I think it was.
13:21But, yeah, it's questionable.
13:24Man, you always want to get an advantage fishing that long.
13:26I mean, he was in jail in there.
13:28100%.
13:29Ben, thank you for the time, dude.
13:30Now that we're talking golf, we've got to let you go.
13:32Thank you, brother.
13:33Thank you, guys.
13:33Always a pleasure.
13:34I appreciate you, man.
13:35That's Ben Sennett looking for a big third year.
13:38You are listening to Beamitch and Finley.
13:40We are live coming to you from Ashburn, Virginia,
13:42BigBear.ai Performance Center.
13:44Training camp.
13:45First practice.
13:46Oh, dude.
13:46Since you didn't leave, Beamitch knows you've got to leave if you're with me.
13:50He will bring you into it.
13:51Touchdown catch on Mariota.
13:53Tell me that route.
13:54You just got your feet in bounds.
13:56It was pretty.
13:56Uh-huh.
13:57You know, we call it the Pacer concept.
14:00I just have a shallow,
14:01and I've got to beat the flat defender to that front pylon,
14:03and I'm just hauling because we've got a back line coming in.
14:06Yeah.
14:06So the faster I get there, it can open up the back line.
14:09But if I beat that flat defender there, he's going to put it right off.
14:11It looked pretty textbook by design.
14:13It looked pretty clean.
14:14Yeah, they had no idea.
14:15They had DN trying to play the flat.
14:17Oh, yeah, yeah.
14:18That's a tricky spot.
14:19Bad idea.
14:21Trey Burke's in the corner.
14:23Did he get both feet in?
14:23Oh, of course.
14:24Oh, he did.
14:24I watched that.
14:25That's no question.
14:26I watched that.
14:26I'm alive for my offense.
14:28If you ask an offensive guy, it's going to be two feet in every time.
14:31100%.
14:31This time, I mean.
14:32Run, Ben, run.
14:33Yeah.
14:33Thank you, dude.
14:34Thank you for the time.
14:34I'll sit here all day, man.
14:35Well, you're welcome to.
14:36I appreciate it.
