00:00There's a lot of excitement surrounding Jaden Daniels' kind of ability
00:05to take on this David Blau offense.
00:08And I thought this was pretty remarkable.
00:10I saw this.
00:11So, Kime, today is today, the 29th.
00:14So, two days ago, Kime wrote a story for ESPN.
00:16John Kime, ESPN commander's reporter, wrote a story for ESPN.com.
00:20It said, Jaden Daniels back in action last season was miserable at times.
00:24And I don't think you have to be a real mind reader to know Jaden wasn't
00:27thrilled with how last year went.
00:30I think he only played seven full games, or maybe only played seven,
00:33only finished four.
00:35Injuries were an issue for him for the entire offense.
00:38They went 5-12.
00:39He didn't look his best at times.
00:41Last year was just kind of a broken year.
00:44And he seemed, you know, I got to talk to him whatever day we were out there,
00:48Wednesday.
00:48He seemed very locked in.
00:51The offense seemed very crisp.
00:53And I noticed this.
00:54Louis Riddick from ESPN quote tweeted Kime's story and said,
00:59JD5 about to remind everyone exactly who he is.
01:03One of the five best quarterbacks in the NFL.
01:06And as the OTA session was going on, you know, we're all watching Jaden have
01:11what appears to be, at least for May, real command of a new offense.
01:16And I asked Jalen Lane, commander's second year wide receiver, where he thought Jaden was
01:22in understanding David Blau's new system.
01:27Jeff.
01:28Amazing, man.
01:29I love how Blau and the rest of the staff is kind of putting together.
01:33And it's been fun, you know, learning new stuff.
01:35And just seeing how the offense is built from the ground up, it's been pretty cool to watch.
01:39Man, I don't know.
01:41I feel like he was one of the founders of this offense as well.
01:43Just how, you know, easy he's, you know, gotten going with it.
01:47And it's been exciting to see.
01:49So, B, I want to ask you your level of, I don't know if excitement's the right word,
01:59but, like, where you think Jaden and the offense are and where you expected them to be.
02:04Well, I mean, just like I told you the other day, I just wanted to see how people were handling
02:09because one thing I know is they didn't see everything for the first time yesterday.
02:14Jaden probably has been in there with Blau implementing and putting this thing together.
02:21And there are other guys that, you know, when you hear about Jaden being in the bubble early,
02:25he has a host of guys that come with him sometimes.
02:28And I'm sure those guys have seen some stuff.
02:31And when they went out there to California, they wasn't just running air routes.
02:36They were running stuff and trying to practice things that he knows is coming.
02:41So, I wanted to see if they had a grasp of it.
02:45Not know it 100% at this point, but be able to move fast.
02:50And based off everything you're getting, they were moving fast.
02:54They had a lot of energy with it.
02:56But also, I want people to understand is that defense on the other side had on no pads.
03:02The defense on the other side is told don't touch those players.
03:05Don't hit them.
03:06They want the offense to work.
03:09They want the new defense to work.
03:11So, that's how you build the offense or the defense.
03:14And that's how you make practice go.
03:15But it amazes me every year, the first practice, people go crazy.
03:20And then if things don't go right or if they go right, they take credit.
03:26If they don't go right, they blame us.
03:28So, at this point is if you've been in a certain business all your life and you move to another
03:37company and you get a hold of the stuff, you're not going to look lost the first day.
03:45But you're not going to be as good as you're going to be.
03:48These guys have been playing football forever.
03:50And as I state all the time, I think people around the sport like to tell you, certain people want
03:56to say how difficult it is, how hard it is, that, that, to make themselves look good.
04:02But if you know football, you can learn it rather quickly.
04:05And I know one thing about number five.
04:08The dude is a bookworm when it comes to football.
04:11It's not going to take him very long to get a grasp of something.
04:16And the fact that he gets it, his guys are going to get it because they want to go along
04:22with him.
04:23The energy he possesses and he presents is going to be copied by the guys around him.
04:31I totally agree with that.
04:33I think with Jaden specifically, I think he and Blau were maybe working on under center stuff by the end
04:45of last season.
04:46They shut Jaden down, but he still practiced.
04:48But they had a game plan with Josh Johnson, but there was plenty going on to the side.
04:54You know what I mean?
04:55Yeah.
04:55And I think the way Jaden's wired, the work he'll put in, the whole team knows they went five and
05:0212.
05:02I think the whole team knows how much pressure is probably on the coaching staff.
05:08And I asked Mariota, you know, it's only May.
05:15Sam Cosby talked about this fire burning inside of them.
05:18Like, you want to like keep that fire measured to make sure it's burning in September.
05:26And Marcus said, let the fire burn, man.
05:29So, I think that proper motivation.
05:32But you know who's also motivated on the practice field this week?
05:36Seattle.
05:37And they won the Super Bowl.
05:38Like, Javon Kinlaw, a lot of folks kind of got lost in all the cursing.
05:44But he said, he's like, man, this is professional football.
05:47You got to show up every day motivated.
05:49You have to be internally motivated.
05:51It's the only way that works.
05:52Yeah.
05:53And the thing over there, Jay, what somebody say means nothing.
05:58It's what they go out there and do.
05:59Totally.
06:00Our guy Lapp is on the line and wants to talk about Jaden.
06:03Lapp, what's up, dude?
06:05Hey, what's up, Venus?
06:06What's up, brother?
06:08Yeah, man.
06:09I just think Jaden and that got something to prove, man.
06:12You know, the coach for the Lions called him a contract killer, man.
06:16And I think that's what he's going to do.
06:18I still think we need another receiver, but if he can build some chemistry with the guys
06:24that's in the building, man, I think they can be some sweepers.
06:27I want to see Trey ball out.
06:29I want to see Lang and Luke ball out.
06:31I want to see Williams ball out.
06:34And I want to see De'Ami, you know, pick back up where he left off, you know, when he
06:38last was with us.
06:39So, and this offense should be dope, man.
06:44Him being on the center, working with David.
06:46He knows him, you know what I'm saying?
06:48And he was a quarterback, too, you know.
06:51And I don't think people don't understand, like, their dynamic and their relationship,
06:56man.
06:56I think it's going to be a smooth transition.
06:58It's not like, you know, Hurts, you know, getting six different coordinators.
07:02This is a guy that he's familiar with that's already been in the building.
07:05So, I think it'll be a smooth transition.
07:08And then I'm just curious about the defense, too, as well, and see what they're going to do.
07:12Because I'm excited about that coordinator, as well.
07:15But everybody got to prove it, bro.
07:17Everybody got to step up.
07:18Quinn, Peterson, Jaden, everybody.
07:21Cherry, everybody, man.
07:23They all got to be locked in.
07:24And our schedule is so brutal, bro.
07:27Yeah, especially.
07:27We can't afford no lapses.
07:29We can't make no mistakes and be down.
07:32And then you got two division games out the gate.
07:34I want both of them.
07:36I want to start out hot.
07:37So, you know, we shouldn't need no pep talk or rally to get us motivated, bro.
07:43We got two division games out the gate.
07:45So, let's get it going.
07:46Like the lead on live, bro.
07:48Yeah.
07:48All right, bro.
07:49Appreciate it, bro.
07:49Good call to lead us off right there.
07:51We'll take a couple more calls if you want.
07:52800-636-1067.
07:55800-636-1067.
07:58How confident are you in a bounce-back season for Jaden Daniels?
08:01I can tell you, I think he's confident.
08:03I think the biggest switch here is going to be being at the line of scrimmage and, you
08:11know, to pull off play action.
08:13You're putting your back to the defense, and that's not something he's done a lot.
08:17Mariota did talk about that, and he said it's not an easy transition when you have to turn
08:21your back to the defense.
08:23Defenses are patterns, and so whatever information that you can get, especially being up towards
08:27the line of scrimmage, it's going to help you out.
08:29How do you view that balance of being up under center, being able to look at everything
08:35as the ball is snapped, versus when you are running play action, or if you're running a
08:39boot, at times your back will be to the defense.
08:42But the whole thing of it, I think, is when you're taking it from the shotgun, you take
08:46your eye off the defense too, aren't you?
08:48Right.
08:48Although you don't turn your back, you're not looking at them.
08:50So whether I'm turning my back, I'm looking at the ball, I'm looking over here because
08:55the ball was snapped over here, same thing, and when you're turning your back, it's probably
09:00a second at the most.
09:03So I don't think it's as difficult as it would seem because I did both of them, and I didn't
09:11see the major difficulty.
09:12I knew the impact of turning the back helped out more than the impact of being in front of
09:19me like that, you know?
09:21So I don't think it's going to be that big of a, let's be real, they play football and
09:29practice football all day.
09:31They don't go to work, they don't go to class, and they go to football, yes, so they have
09:36the time to get it done, and we know already how he is.
09:39So I'm not seeing this as a major transition.
09:42Taking your calls next, how confident are you in a big bounce back for Jaden Daniels?
09:47It's B. Mitch and Finley.
