Willard and Dibs react to the Warriors offseason to this point -- which is the only offseason in the NBA that does not include bringing in a new player via free agency or trade.

00:00I don't love my take because if I, if this is really my take, I want to be able to
00:06look the
00:06Warriors in the eye and say, here's what you should have done. But I can't say that yet
00:12because I don't, first of all, we never really know what conversations are happening. I think
00:17it's very easy to be like, you should have traded for Jalen Brown. I don't know that they could
00:22have. I don't think they had the horses to trade for Jalen Brown. And if you had to up it
00:28to four
00:28or five or six with the picks and the swaps and all of this, it's like, no, I don't want
00:33to do that.
00:35So I've never been, Hey, at all costs guy, you got to better this team, but I, I just,
00:42so it's a general point that is sort of missing half the point, but I don't, I don't think I'm
00:49unfair for, you can't do nothing. You can't like, come on, be real with me, level with me, Warriors.
00:59That you can't do nothing. I get it. If you want to give me the whole, we're going to be
01:04responsible and we're old and we want to keep our picks and that's going to bother some people.
01:10And I can hear some of it, but you got to meet the fans halfway. Don't you have to do
01:16something.
01:18You, I mean, you can't set the off season out. They can, they're allowed to, as I borrow from
01:24you. And I don't know if you've been following my top 15 memories of our 15 year anniversary
01:29that's coming up. I love it. I love it. It was our first show together. And I actually
01:34shout out skills and Vallejo who has apparently every word ever utter on the station. Right.
01:39And so he actually sent, which is cool and concerning at the same time. It's more cool
01:43than concerning, but yes, I'm a little bit afraid. And he actually said along our first
01:48ever hour. And I listened to the first like 10 or 15 minutes and we do, we did great, but
01:53it was fun. Cause you told the story about, you know, you and I meeting and I mean, you
01:57had the wrong venue, but you were, uh, we met in Atlanta and I think it was Indy, but the
02:03point was it was at a final four, but it was great. And part of that was you and your
02:09use
02:09of the word fine. And now this, uh, this is another one of those things where you say they're
02:14allowed to. So the warriors are allowed to not do anything. I do think that the, uh, the
02:20sea is angry and not just the Twitter fans, but fans in general are thinking, okay, you
02:26missed out on LeBron. I get it. You can't control that. But what do you, what are you going
02:30to do? Well, listen, warriors have got to know, uh, and maybe they don't care. I don't
02:36know, but fans are going to suffer from FOMO. You, you, you can only watch your friends go
02:42on so many vacations before you're like, honey, we should probably go somewhere. You can't
02:48sit here and watch the league do what the league has done, especially when you're coming
02:53off of 37 and 45 and a play in win followed by a play in loss where it looked like
03:01at least
03:02three of your four tires were popped and then do nothing. Just nothing. Even like you could
03:10don't leave. He could be sitting right here and he's like, guys, there's nothing. There's
03:14nothing there. What do you want me to do? And I'd be like, I get it, but you can't do
03:19nothing. You have to do something. You have to give the fans a pound of flesh. That's what
03:29the worst is a sports. I'm sorry. These are the rules. You can't do nothing. I don't know.
03:38I get it. I'm missing the other half of the take. I don't have it yet, but you can't do
03:43nothing. I mean, you can do nothing, but when you are this team with this owner who has done
03:49the things that he's done as an owner, that's where I would agree with you because, you know,
03:53you're light years, you're light years ahead and you went out and you brought in Kevin Durant
03:58and then you traded for Jimmy Butler and even the Chris Paul thing where, you know, Jordan
04:02Poole went and Chris Paul in and you've done things every single off season and you've really
04:08tried to maximize the Steph Curry window. And here we are in the Steph Curry window. I made this
04:14analogy last week. I think with Grandy, you were gone where you have those old, you know,
04:18windows that don't stay up on their own anymore. And so right now your window is so closed that
04:23you have a highlighter in between the window, the bottom of the window and the window and
04:28it's the highlighter and that highlighter is starting to tremble because if that highlighter
04:32snaps and the window closes, the window is closed. And that's about where we are, where
04:36the window is so shut that you can't even like squeak your way out of it. The cat can't
04:42even get through, but the window is still kind of open a little bit, but unless you have a really,
04:48really, really small dog, the dog can't get out. If you have a kitten, maybe the kitten can squeak
04:53out, but that window is really close. Yeah. 5-1-0, I see you with, they didn't do nothing. They,
05:01and then you list all of the people that they brought back who were already on the team.
05:05And to me that counts as nothing for two reasons. Number one, they're already on the team. So I get
05:13it. Those were transactional. Um, but bringing everybody back, uh, to me is not really involving
05:19yourself. Um, again, the Warriors are the only team in the NBA that does not have a new body in
05:26their uniform outside of the draft. They're the only ones. That's crazy. So that counts as nothing to me.
05:32And combine that with it's even worse because you brought all the people back who couldn't play
05:39for you last year and couldn't get you a winning record last year and couldn't get you into the
05:45playoffs last year. And you brought them back and they're all just a year older. They're all a year
05:52older. So I'm sorry. That to me counts as nothing. You have to like your words when you left were,
06:01where we need more people who can play back to backs. You have not brought in any
06:08other than the axle. Right. And you sit here now where there are still people out there who are NBA
06:14players who are unsigned. And I don't know if they're going to be able to fit into your price
06:18range. And you also have Draymond green who you are yet to sign. And he opted out. And the thinking
06:24is that he will still be a golden state warrior. And I'm, I'm really interested to see what that
06:29looks like not only for Draymond, but for the team, because if he opts out of $27 million or so,
06:36then I would imagine he's thinking, okay, if you get LeBron, I'll take a two-year deal for
06:42whatever it's going to be. It's going to be around 27 million, maybe more. But if you don't get LeBron,
06:47do I get to just walk back in and make what I would have made had I opted in? I
06:52can't imagine that
06:53that isn't already in place in terms of a, of a handshake agreement. I'm with you. And I feel
06:58like if I were him, like he would probably, it's probably going to be two years. Everybody's deal
07:04was two years. Why wouldn't Draymond's? I know a lot of people are like, well, you know, Draymond's
07:11getting old. I don't know. They signed out Horford to two years. Why would they not sign Draymond to
07:16two years? Right. I don't know that they will, but I don't, I like, where is the evidence that
07:22they're like only one for you? If you're Draymond, wouldn't they kind of tick you off? You're
07:28like, I'm going to do you a solid. I'm going to opt out. You gave everybody two years. You
07:31gave a bunch of people two years. You don't even know if you can play. Al's in his forties.
07:36Kristaps has got pots. I mean, you gave everybody. DeAnthony Melton has had multiple ACLs. You gave
07:45everybody two years. You're not going to give me two years. Probably going to give him two years.
07:50And even at that, if they gave him one year and they said, all right, you know, we're going
07:53to give you one year and 9 million. And well, he's not signing that. So like Draymond Green
07:57would take his talents elsewhere if that's the way that they were going to do him. And
08:02I do think that a lot of it for me anyway, falls back on, you know, Draymond Green's been
08:07here his whole career and he's got a podcast. So not that they're afraid of his podcast, but
08:12if they like try to do him dirty or try to like low ball him, he's going to go out
08:17there
08:17and what scatter their news to the wind. Why would they? The Warriors don't act that
08:22way. They never act that way. Again, this is my thing. I think a lot of you are making
08:25up a soap opera in your mind that just doesn't exist. Why would the Warriors for the first
08:30time ever? I mean, Draymond, how many times has he said just this month, the Warriors have
08:34never mistreated me once. I mean, in fact, I know a lot of our listeners feel like the Warriors
08:41have actually bent over backwards to not mistreat Draymond Green. Why all of the sudden here
08:47at the end of his career, when he does them a favor, would they, would they stab him in
08:53the back? That does, that does not sound like this or the organization that I follow.
08:57Makes no sense to me, especially when you go back to the Jordan pool situation where they
09:02didn't suspend him for ring night and you know, all of the other minor infractions that
09:07he has, you know, sustained or he's gone through and yet they've continued to, you know, support
09:12him and pay him and all the rest of it. So I'm with you.
09:15Matt in Oakland. Hey, let's lead us off. 888-957-9570. Matt, thank you for the call.
09:20What's going on?
09:22Hey, Jens. Did you guys see the Simmons clip about Curry being the saddest superstar since
09:29Steve Nash was like 12 years, whatever it was.
09:33I've got something. I got something right here, Matt, where Bill Simmons basically says the Warriors
09:38are the biggest losers of all of free agency. Is that the one to which you are referring?
09:44No, I saw that as well. That may be part of the same bit. I'm not sure if it is,
09:50but that
09:51is also true. But he said, you know, he thought Curry was the saddest superstar situation. He
09:57referenced Nash and what is that? 2014. And then Kevin Garnett, 2007. This is, you know,
10:06I don't know why Curry's putting up with this stuff. I mean, signing Draymond to another more
10:11than one year would be a disaster. I was hoping he would go somewhere else. The team can't change
10:16until he's gone. And guys, this is Lakeham. This is not Dunleavy. People don't want to play
10:21for this guy anymore. I mean, I don't know what went to his head. Well, I do know four rings
10:25went to his head. He's onto the Valkyries. Um, I don't, I don't think anyone wants to play
10:31for this guy. And what do I know? Nothing, of course. But, uh, I don't think Dunleavy is
10:37incompetent when he's had the opportunity. He could make deals. I think that's why Myers
10:42is out of there. Um, this owner, it's all gone to his head. And, uh, I, frankly, I think
10:49it's time to consider trading Curry because I don't think they're going to do anything this
10:54year. They got to get out from, I like Axel. I mean, well, I have a question. What could
11:00you get for him? Um, to go to Charlotte? I didn't want LaMelo, but I mean, X, whatever
11:06you ought to be able to get a lot. You're still talking about Curry, right? Matt, you're
11:10talking about Steph. I'm talking about Curry. I know that sacrilege, but the guy
11:16deserves better than this man. Um, he really does and he's not getting it. And I blame
11:21Lakeham. That's all I got. Yeah, Matt. Thanks. Appreciate it. I still maintain, um, that
11:27whenever somebody brings up the idea of dealing Curry, um, and he even said it
11:32like not, it's, it's beyond the sacrilege part of it. It has to come from Curry.
11:39And, and it's such an interesting dynamic to me. How many people seem to almost want
11:44to be Steph Curry's agent. So many of you want to trade Steph Curry cause he quote
11:48deserves better, but Steph Curry is not yet on your bus. Steph Curry has not blown the
11:57whistle. He has not raised the flag. He's not said one word yet. So until Steph is,
12:03is outwardly upset, or if you start to hear rumblings behind the scenes, like we
12:08have for the last couple of years with Giannis, um, then, um, I don't think there's
12:13anything to talk about there. I'll tell you when I think that there's a Steph Curry
12:16trade conversation would be for the very first time, which is if we get to the day
12:21later, I'll say this month, but it's in about a month where Steph Curry becomes
12:25eligible for an extension and it doesn't happen. Now we can have a talk because then we'll
12:31be like, why isn't it happening? Right. Is somebody either not offering the right dollar
12:36amount? Is Steph using that as leverage because he doesn't like what he sees? We can have
12:41that conversation then until then there's nothing to talk about because Steph doesn't
12:45seem upset. And I don't think that he will get to that point. And if it's a dollar amount
12:49and you know, he might be offered the max that he can get and he might turn it down
12:54and he might decide at that point, like, I want to, I want to do what LeBron's doing,
12:58which is go somewhere else and maybe chase number five. I don't really see it that way,
13:03but right now I don't believe that we're at that spot where you're going to look at Steph
13:07and think, well, yeah, this whole thing is breaking apart and it's Lakob's fault.
13:12And so now you have to trade Steph and you have to tear the whole thing down. There's still
13:14so many other things I believe that have to happen between now and you get to that spot.
13:19And I guess I'm still holding out hope that they can add somebody and improve this team
13:24between now and October, something, you know, um, do you click on stuff, all the rumors and
13:30everything? Sometimes, sometimes depending. So one of those websites got me yesterday. It's
13:37like, uh, warriors and veteran guard have mutual interest in a free agent contract, veteran
13:46guard, veteran guard. And I went, Ooh, Jeremy Lynn veteran guard. Who, who might it be? And
13:53I clicked on it. And, uh, what do you think it said? Probably, uh, I don't know. DeMar DeRozan.
14:01Who knows the warriors and veteran guard Gary Payton, the second, ah, have mutual interest
14:12in a free agent contract. And I have not like, great GP2. I love GP2. Who doesn't love GP2?
14:18He can be on the team. That's fine. But I was like, you got, I'm like, this article is just
14:25mean. You're B you're being mean. Well, what the warrior fan base has been through, you're
14:31going to do, you're going to do a clickbait tease on them keeping yet another oft injured
14:37veteran player. Who's been on the team for the better part of five, six years now. I just,
14:45I don't know. I get it. My opinion. If I'm inside the warrior hallways, I'm sitting there
14:53thinking, well, this show is kind of being unfair because I don't want fake hustle. I don't
15:00want you to sign someone just for the sake of signing someone. But my God, if you get
15:05back to training camp and we're doing media day and everybody's out there for pictures,
15:11poor Matt Higgins running around with a microphone, trying to get rejoins and realizes we've already
15:16got them all.
15:17We've got them all. Right. Hi, this is LJ Cryer.
15:22We got them all already. You didn't bring in anyone new? Dubnation is the Anthony Melton.
15:29Got it. Dubnation, it's Malify Leons. Don't have that one.
15:34She don't have that one. Green check. Bay Area is GP2.
15:39Got it. Got it already. What's up, Bay Area? It's Al Horford.
15:43Hi, Al. We already got you. Thanks for being willing.
15:47Bay Area, it's key center here. Got it. I think we're all good here.
15:55I thought Randy had one more. Hey, we're all set. What are you looking for?
15:58I mean, we all just got a day off for media day. We don't even need to go this year.
16:02Dubnation, it's Jimmy Butler. We got it. Yeah. Yeah. We got it already.
16:07I mean, we got it, but will we use it this year? What if they bring back Seth Curry?
16:11Dubnation, it's Seth Curry. Well, if they do. I didn't know we had a Seth Curry.
16:14Yeah, where's that been, Iden? I mean, he hardly played.
16:18Dubnation, it's Damian Lee. It's a homecoming. Oh, my God.
16:22And I thought you were going to say that the free agent guard that they were connected to was Gary
16:28Payton.
16:29The first. The actual OG GP. This is how the glove do it. That's right.
16:35Oh, man. Poor guy's going to head down to media day and just chase Yaxl wherever he goes.
16:41Yaxl, you're the only one left we need. It's like those little Monopoly games over at McDonald's where you're like,
16:47you got all the pieces already.
16:48Oh, my God. You need the one piece to get the million.
16:51And by the way, that piece doesn't exist.
16:54No, of course it doesn't.
16:56Piece.
16:58Yaxl, look at my Michigan shirt. I love Michigan.
17:05Yeah. So I'm so I I'd like to apologize to the Golden State Warriors for putting you in this position
17:13of having to sign somebody, even though there might be nobody.
17:17But I'm like, no, don't apologize. They should be apologizing to us.
17:21No, I get that. You understand my point.
17:23Yeah, you get my point.
17:24I do. I do.
17:25This is one of those areas where, to me, if you're a professional sports franchise or you're an entertainment entity,
17:32you you are not going to come off looking good if you don't bring in anyone new.
17:39It's just not going to.
17:41That's it.
17:41It's just not going to play well.
17:43There's nothing anybody can do about think about the Giants last offseason where it was Mally and Hauser and Bader
17:51and you think.
17:53Yep. So, oh, yeah, I'm not saying that it's just because you're bringing a new name that we're like, oh,
17:58yeah, we're going to playoffs now.
17:59I'm just saying, like, even looking at their offseason, it's like, yeah, you didn't do what fans thought you should
18:04have done and then has led you to not be very good.
