00:05versus west coast horse racing do you think there was a stigma that you had to overcome
00:10on getting uh the breeders cup out there because everybody always looks at the east coast and
00:16that's where all the major events are there was that one of the selling points that you had
00:20to make was west coast horse racing is a thing too because i remember that used to be something
00:27that you used to have to sell people on and here we are with the breeders cup here at delmar
00:33yeah that it's always been kind of that way you know the the ny are the the three tracks um
00:39in new york uh you know the the kentucky tracks uh um you know that's what people go to for
00:47the
00:47the big races and so i think delmar delmar has the charm of the place and uh i kept pushing
00:56that
00:56and the fact that where we are and who we are and uh you know there's a gazillion of restaurants
01:02as
01:03you know all around great places to be and they finally finally got that i got that through to
01:08them and they came out and they said wow we never knew this was all here so uh they're very
01:14interested
01:14and they love the breeders cup when it's out here uh i've been told that uh the this track they
01:21make
01:21the most money at the most profit so uh that's certainly a you know big straw on our feather in
01:27our hat but you know i i think it's just it's coming they want to come back here and and
01:32they'll
01:32be back i think but uh you know there's always a little bit of politics in this game so uh
01:37it'll
01:38make the rounds for a while tell me what you think of the industry right now the thoroughbred industry
01:43where it is right now do you think it's in a good place no i don't uh i think there's
01:51you know we see
01:52well we've seen a lot of tracks go away i think uh you know it's always um you know the
01:58competition
01:58is different i think yeah you know we've got some some bad press on horse you know uh injuries things
02:06like that um and you got a younger fan base coming in and uh an older fan base going out
02:13i think i've
02:15always said that del mar we're in the best position we could be because where we are in a resort
02:20town
02:20um believe me you know you've been here on opening day it's it's it's a party and uh i guarantee
02:28you
02:29that uh probably 50 of those people that come out on opening day have never been to any other
02:35racetrack uh but they'll come here because of the of where it is and not just you know who we
02:40are but
02:41where we are and uh we've tried to market in that that respect that hey this is a party this
02:46is a lot
02:46of fun we got great restaurants uh um and when the races are over you got you know three or
02:52four
02:52miles in any direction are are super places to go and eat and have fun so not to mention that
02:57big
02:58blue thing that i'm looking at right now uh called the pacific ocean is another pretty good
03:02good reason to be here absolutely there
