00:00Yet again, we're not going to see the horse that won the Derby in the Preakness.
00:05I mean, I can't sit here and pretend that that's not a big deal.
00:08It is a big deal.
00:10So does something have to change?
00:12Does something have to happen in horse racing to make these, you know, trainers and owners sign something saying, hey,
00:20if you win, are you committed to the next race?
00:24Or are we just headed toward a scenario where the Triple Crown is no longer?
00:27It's got to be one way or the other.
00:29Well, you know, it's funny because it wasn't really that long ago, what, 10, 11 years ago that we had
00:34American Pharoah and Justify get the Triple Crown within like two years of each other, right?
00:39So it's doable.
00:41It's not like it's been 100 years or 50 years.
00:44Like, you know, it had been a big amount of time between before American Pharoah did it, but it's been
00:48done twice within the past 11 or 12 years, right?
00:51So, you know, it is frustrating for the entire sport, like the entire industry.
00:56It's great to have the Derby winner go to the Preakness.
00:59Interesting scenario this year with the Preakness being at Laurel for the first time and supposedly the only time with
01:06the new Pimlico being built and ready for next year.
01:10Right.
01:10You know, I think last year, I think everyone had a tremendous feeling that Sovereignty was a legitimate Triple Crown
01:18type horse.
01:19I don't think that's necessarily the case this year with Golden Tempo, right?
01:24Kudos to him.
01:25The connections, obviously, the Sherry DeVoe, the first female trainer to win the Derby has been caught on nationally and
01:31been a great story.
01:32I don't really think that horse was a real Triple Crown contender, to be honest with you.
01:38So, you know, I think at the end of the day, I think you will ultimately see some changes, whether
01:43it's adding a third week between the Derby and the Preakness, and then we have three weeks from the Preakness
01:48to the Belmont.
01:50I know there's been a lot of talk out there about giving it a month between, you know, the first
01:54Saturday in May, first Saturday in June, first Saturday of July, that type of idea.
02:00That would take, you know, these other tracks.
02:02Naira especially have to move around their other stake schedules, the Traverse Stakes in August at Saratoga, which is considered
02:08the mid-summer derby, if you will.
02:11But I think eventually the industry is going to have to do something.
02:15So, you know, CDI buying the intellectual rights, as we talked about a couple weeks ago, for the Preakness, I
02:21think might spur that conversation even more.
02:24And the networks, right?
02:26NBC and Fox and those networks covering the big races, obviously they want the star horses there.
02:31So I think they'll be a big part of it as well.
