00:00Hello there, welcome to the final episodes of putting Dr. G on the spot in the month of July
00:05when we observe the World Population Day on the 11th of July. So for the last installation,
00:12some people want to find out what are the ways in order to enhance chances of fertility.
00:24In fact, most of it evolved around women. For guys, it's only frequency of intercourse that
00:31actually will determine it. Let's work out a few factors that will change it. There are factors
00:36that will change and the factors that you cannot change. Obviously, factors you cannot change are
00:41like your genes. And then factors that you can change, by far the most important one is the age.
00:47The age, not the men, but the women. So exactly what age and what sort of like chances of fertility
00:54are we looking at? So for example, if somebody who is at the age of 20 to 30, actually for
01:03each cycle
01:04of the actual ovulation, the chance of fertility is between 20 to 25%. So that might sound a bit low,
01:12but that actually means that within a six to nine month period, the chances of getting pregnant might
01:19just accumulatively become about nearly 100%. So the chances is significantly higher when you're below
01:2630. When you're between 30 to 35, that will drop by half and then 35 and above, even more 40
01:33and above,
01:34extremely low. So that is the age, which is a determining factor. So you can change that,
01:41obviously try to have baby a lot earlier. The second time is the actual timing. So what timing
01:48that are we looking at? The ovulation time. Because if you remember, ovulation is actually fixed at
01:55certain time. For example, mid cycle and the egg survive for about 24 hours, but the sperms can
02:03survive for about five days. So therefore it has a six day window period that somebody can get pregnant.
02:10And we always recommend either 24 hours before, after or during ovulation that will be useful in
02:18order to enhance the actual fertility rate. Number three is the things that you can change is the
02:26frequency of ejaculation. You don't have to do it like twice a day or every day during the actual
02:33ejaculation time. And you don't actually have to accumulate for five days or six days of abstinence to
02:39do that. In fact, every other day you get refreshes of the new sperms and that quality is good enough
02:46for
02:46fertility. And finally, the thing that you can improve on are the things that will keep you healthy.
02:53For example, maintain good weight, less stress at work, more hydration and more exercise. And a vast
02:59majority of this will actually help you to enhance your fertility. For the next week, we're venturing
03:06into the month of August. We want to find out breastfeeding, does it affect sex life and does it
03:11affect fertility? If you are keen to find out, then we'll stay tuned for next week's Putting
03:16Dr. G on the Spot.
