00:00For those of you who are celebrating Hari Raya, Selamat Hari Raya.
00:04Today, we're going to discuss exactly what will happen to men as we get older as far as fertility is
00:10concerned.
00:17Isn't it true that men will continue to produce sperm throughout their whole life, just like what Mick Jagger has,
00:23so fertility is not an issue?
00:24That's not quite true, because before the age of 30, the fertility is very, very good.
00:32However, there is a marked difference between age of 30 and 40 because the fertility rate will reduce by at
00:38least 30%.
00:40Why is that the case?
00:424 parameters will change.
00:45Number 1 is that the actual DNA damage will be increased.
00:50Number 2 is the quality that you ejaculate is reduced significantly.
00:56Most men will know that.
00:57Number 3 is that when you look at the number of sperm count, actually it drops significantly.
01:04And number 4, they are not so active.
01:07With those combined, it will result in something that will reduce the fertility overall for men with advancing age.
01:16So, what exactly happened?
01:18Actually, there are several theories.
01:21Number 1 is that as men get older, your testosterone level drops.
01:25And that is one of the reasons why men will have problems with less fertility.
01:30Number 2 is that as we get older, non-communicable diseases such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure,
01:37and also dyslipidemia, and also diabetes will kick in and all these will actually have an impact on the sperm
01:48quality.
01:49And lastly, for those of you who have got bad lifestyle such as a lot of stress, a lot of
01:56alcohol, a lot of smoking,
01:57and all these eventually will take toll after years and years of accumulations of that and then will have an
02:05impact on those sperms.
02:07So, are there ways to overcome this?
02:09It's just like whether you can overcome aging.
02:12Of course, we can reduce the negative impact of the sperm damage.
02:17You need to sleep more because when you sleep, you enhance the sperm production by at least 80% to
02:2590% if you have 8 or 9 hours sleep.
02:28Number 2, you need to exercise more because that will increase your testosterone.
02:34Number 3, you actually need to hydrate yourself more often.
02:38Number 4, try for certain food that is very good for sperm quality.
02:43For example, food that is rich in selenium, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin E, and also omega-3.
02:51And all these are rich in fruit and vegetable and also in fresh fish.
