00:01Eyebrows are interesting. They're one of the only piercings that require like a two-push method.
00:06It is a little bit more like a finesse. I'm Lauren and I'm getting my eyebrow pierced today.
00:13I want to get my eyebrow pierced today just because I like the look of it and I think it
00:16looks badass. I'm a cinematographer based in LA so I feel like an eyebrow piercing is gonna be a
00:21big bold statement piece that I think will really just tie the whole look together. I didn't really
00:25tell any of my friends I was gonna be doing this. I ended up calling my mom to see if
00:28it was a good
00:28idea or not and she's like well if you don't like it you can always take it out.
00:31She's always telling me to live while I'm young and to take a picture of it and laugh when I'm
00:3550
00:35years old. I normally take care of my piercings. I've never really had any problems with them.
00:40I am a little worried if I have to take off like my eyebrows for a good week just because
00:44I rely
00:45on makeup so much. Eyebrow piercings are anatomically dependent. They're one of those
00:49piercings that you have to have a certain anatomy for. If you have very flat eyebrows or something
00:54without a lot of structure there if we pierce it it's just going to push through and reject.
00:59I'm Lucy Dahl. I'm a piercer at Aesthetic Ambition Piercing and Tattoo in Marina Del
01:04Ray California. I started off in an apprenticeship with my mentor Thomas Hall. He's the owner of the
01:09studio that I work at. I did about a year-long apprenticeship before I started actually getting
01:13into doing piercings and I've been piercing for about five years since then. Piercing to me is a
01:20way of expressing the way that you want to look, the way you want to present yourself to other
01:27people in a much more personal way. Things like makeup, hair dye, all of that stuff are also options
01:35but piercings kind of bring it to a whole nother level. I love eyebrow piercings. They're super fun.
01:41They're pretty easy at this point for me and I love that they're coming back in style right now
01:45because the 90s are alive and well. We're back in it. Let me grab you some jewelry options so we
01:50can take a look. Okay. I'm not really a huge fan of needles as long as I don't see any
01:54of the
01:54procedure happening. Watching this video back I might like cringe a little bit but during the
01:58actual procedure I think I'll be fine. I think I want to go with this black and silver one. Okay
02:03that guy's cool that's genuine onyx. Oh wow. Perfect. Awesome. All right. Yeah we can do that.
02:09So as I lay Lauren down I'm going to set up behind her. I'm going to grab my 16 gauge
02:16needle,
02:1616 gauge threaded taper and my jewelry which is also a 16 gauge so everything matches and
02:22it's a little bit more comfortable for Lauren that way. After cleaning I'm going to mark some
02:33options for her. I like to give about three options for my clients so that they have a little
02:38bit more of a choice in the matter. I'm going to go back and wipe once more. This second prep
02:49ensures
02:49that the marker and any sort of touching that has happened in between the first prep and this one
02:55will be prepped as well. After that prep has dried I can begin the piercing process. I'm going to take
03:04my needle and lay it down on the entry point of the piercing. Once aligned and ready to go I
03:12have Lauren
03:13take a nice deep breath in. Upon her exhale I begin the piercing process. This is a two-step process
03:21so
03:21the needle goes in at one angle. I pivot and push it out the other angle. Once the needle is
03:40all the
03:41way through I guide my taper through the back end of the needle with the jewelry attached creating a
03:46seamless transfer and almost no pain for Lauren.
04:04All right you ready? Yeah. Okay take a look. Oh I love it. Yay. I'm trying not to like touch
04:12it.
04:12I know. Yeah please don't touch it. My initial reaction after the piercing was that it didn't
04:18hurt that badly and it was over faster than I thought it was going to be. Why am I so
04:22nervous
04:22she knows I got this. Hi mom. Oh there you are. Oh my gosh. How do you like it? Wow.
04:32I think I actually
04:33like it. She actually likes it. Oh you look so different. In a good way? Yeah in a good way.
04:41I really appreciated Lucy. She walked me through all of the procedures so I wasn't nervous at all
04:45and she gave me a lot of aftercare tips. So when it comes to healing piercings I recommend a very
04:51minimal method just using a sterile saline spray about once a day after you either wash your face
04:57for facial piercings or take a shower for any other piercings. Other than that just leaving it alone.
05:02Turning a piercing is basically like ripping a scab. It's going to continue to open that piercing channel
05:07up causing the healing process to start all over again. At the end of the day it is a piercing
05:12and if I don't like it two years from now I can always take it out so I don't think
05:16it's that big
05:17of a deal but yeah I'm really excited about it right now. Thank you for watching Refinery29.
