00:01If it wasn't painful it wouldn't be as cool, right? I say screw the pain, bring
00:07on the jewelry. My name is Aspen Evans and I'm getting a septum piercing done
00:14today. I was always the angsty teen so for me piercings were kind of my form of
00:21rebellion. It's definitely frustrating when you're creative and you want to
00:25look more creative or look the part or do more of the part but you don't
00:30necessarily have the funds to kind of go out and really be your artistic self.
00:34As far as piercings I have two ear piercings and one that I turned into a
00:40gauge and then I have a belly button piercing and then I used to have nipple
00:45piercings but sadly I had to take those out because they did not agree with my
00:48body well. Very upset. I definitely say I'm a piercing junkie. My name is Brian
00:54Keith Thompson. I own Body Electric in Los Angeles. I've always been into fashion.
00:59I just have always been more free thinking in fashion and jewelry and a lot
01:03of men are afraid to wear jewelry because they think it looks feminine. I say screw
01:08that. To say that I'm going to put a stud on each one of their nostrils in the
01:13same place, it's not going to happen. It's going to be different on every single
01:20client. It's the physical act of piercing. It's the art, as some people say, of the
01:27decoration and it's the experience. It's all three of those things together making
01:33a trifecta of my business. When I think of septum piercings I usually think of
01:39someone artsy and creative because I went to art school and I swear everyone had
01:43one. So I think that was probably when I first thought about getting one. So a
01:47septum you're going on the center part of the face right in between the nostrils.
01:52It is one of those things that any type of degree of error just slightly is going to
01:59make that piercing look off. It's the one piercing when I do it I'm constantly
02:04thinking in my head, you know, don't screw this up. Don't screw this up. That is one of
02:09the drawbacks I've thought about with septum piercings. It's just that it's
02:13right there in your nose and I swear I have the worst allergies. So I'm like what
02:16if I blow my nose and it like comes off? Like I don't know. I definitely say I'm
02:20kind of nervous. For someone that loves piercing so much I very much have like a
02:25low pain tolerance so this will be pretty funny.
02:35The way I start with the septum piercing is I'm gonna lay Aspen down. I'm gonna
02:40clean her septum. I draw a purple line across the outer part of her septum so
02:58it's just my guideline.
03:13So I like to pierce on your exhale. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna get lined up.
03:17Once I'm comfortable and ready to pierce I'm gonna have you take a big deep
03:20breath in through your nose. Slow and steady. Out through your mouth. Okay?
03:27In one hand I'm holding a receiving tube. In my right hand I'm holding a needle.
03:34And I just slowly pierce through the septum, through the sweet spot.
04:00I like to kind of hover over the client on a septum piercing. I feel more comfortable piercing that way.
04:07I like to kind of hover over the client on a septum piercing. I feel more comfortable piercing that way.
04:21It's really really nice and easy I want people out this place.
04:25And while I remote at the Meetup it is I act like having a low power being tallying down well.
04:26But when you do this time I'm traveling with the heading packed into a shiny area that comes people
04:26and they are the same.
04:26It's fun and I shout out I amazing to your eyes is the same way you are these invece.
04:27So I'm really praying for my espson piercing that way.
04:37And I usually treat you with how you've got anyدying I and I'm doing this.
05:11The less you touch it, the less you play with it, the faster it will heal.
05:15A septum can take anywhere from three to six months, depending on your body.
05:19Flipping it up is okay if you have to.
05:22That's the beautiful part of having a septum piercing.
05:25It's one of those that you can hide.
05:27The only people that can see it are children, and who's going to believe them anyways?
05:31Flipping it up less is best, so try to not do it 100 times a day.
05:40It looks good on you.
05:42It fits you.
05:43Oh, I love this.
05:45My initial reaction after getting the septum piercing was excitement.
05:49I love it.
05:50It's so cute and definitely perfectly frames my nose like I thought.
05:54As soon as I got the piercing done, I was like, ooh, I'm ready to get another one, like a
05:57cartilage or something.
05:59Probably something along my ear.
06:00I'm a piercing junkie.
06:01It's a problem.
06:02Me as a piercer, I have to be laser focused because there's such an easy chance if I'm not for
06:09that piercing to come out crooked.
06:11I saw her face, the way she wore her makeup.
06:15She needed something subtle, clean.
06:17Since Brian is more of a visual person, a designer when it comes to jewelry, he chose getting this kind
06:24of curved situation versus the barbell just because it complimented my face more.
06:29It worked well with the already gold jewelry that I had, and he even switched out, got me some new
06:34gauges.
06:35So exciting.
06:35I think it looks amazing on Aspen.
06:38I expected the piercing to hurt a lot more than it actually did.
06:41It was really more so just pressure and like a pinch.
06:44It barely hurt.
06:45I was like, I've had worse piercings than this, so this was a breeze.
06:48Your nostrils are made to kill and trap bacteria, so it's almost impossible to get an infection.
06:55I haven't seen maybe one that got really gnarly, and the client was swimming in a lake.
07:01So yeah, don't do that.
07:03No lakes.
07:03As far as healing, I feel like it'll be okay.
07:07I'm going to try not to touch it too much, knowing me I'll want to fidget with it.
07:11Septim piercing is kind of one of those you really don't need to mess with or clean too much.
07:15I say just clean the outer part of the jewelry with a little bit of mild soap.
07:20Nothing antibacterial.
07:22I like Dr. Brawners, but you do you.
07:24I have a spray that I can spray on the inside a couple times a day just to make sure
07:28it's like clean, moisturized, all that stuff.
07:30Because I want to make sure I have this for the long haul.
07:32A septum piercing is literally in your face and in everyone else's faces.
07:39So the piercing, the actual physical pain is going to be very short-lived on something like a septum or
07:46an earlobe or a nostril.
07:47If you're worried about the pain, don't.
07:50You really need to be focused on the aftercare.
07:54I definitely feel more creative with this on my face now.
07:58I've been itching to like get something that screams like I'm an artist, I'm a creative now that I'm in
08:03LA.
08:03And I feel like this just suits me perfectly.
