00:00When I do ear candling, you start feeling a sound of sizzling.
00:07I call it like a bacon sizzling.
00:11My name is Kaya Jones and I'm getting ear candling done today.
00:15Since I was young, I've always had a throbbing in my left ear.
00:18When I told my mom about it, she took me to the doctor and they said that it was psychosymptomatic.
00:23I do think I have trouble hearing due to this issue.
00:26Ever since then, I've always dealt with it.
00:28I went to the doctor recently and told them, like, look, I need to have it figured out.
00:32When they clean my ear out, I have seen how much ear wax comes out and it's not pretty.
00:37I had heard about ear candling before and had seen some YouTube videos on it, but I've never tried it.
00:42But I am super excited to meet Paulina and to have my ears cleaned out.
00:47My name is Paulina Baller and I'm the owner and head acupuncturist at the East Meets West Center for Holistic
00:53Medicine.
00:53The idea of East Meets West came when I was studying in college because I do respect tremendously Western medicine.
01:00I think it's incredible.
01:02But I also obviously love Eastern medicine.
01:05And for me, always, the real medicine is in the conjunction of Eastern and Western modalities because both have incredible
01:13things.
01:14That's where East Meets West was born.
01:16Ear candling is a bit of a mystery.
01:18Nobody really knows how it works.
01:20Scientifically, it doesn't make any sense.
01:23It's really hard to find where the tradition comes from.
01:26I've been doing it for 12, 13 years at least.
01:31And every single person feels a relief.
01:36I'm going to light the candles.
01:39Since signing up for the video, I've done some research on ear candling and I'm excited for it.
01:44But again, just worried about the burning flame near my head.
01:48Tell me what's going on with your ears.
01:50So I've always had like a throbbing in this left ear.
01:53Like it always is like boom, boom, boom, boom.
01:55So it's a pulsating.
01:57It's not a sound.
01:58No, yeah, it's pulsating.
02:00Pulsating.
02:01Let's try to see what happens.
02:10You're going to hear sizzling.
02:15It's the warm smoke that goes in and melts, whatever impurities that are there.
02:22It is a total of about 20 minutes on each side.
02:35Whoa.
02:38I have not seen any patients that had bad experiences with ear candling.
02:46People come to get it when they have a beginning of a cold or a flu and it helps them.
02:52I think the best thing you can do is put a drop of olive oil or coconut oil in your
02:58ear.
02:58It's really going to help you with health of your ears.
03:03All right.
03:04You're ready for the next one?
03:05Yes.
03:24I really want to see how much ear wax is coming out.
03:27Like, will I be able to make my own candle?
03:29The pivotal point in the procedure is everyone can't wait to see what comes out of their ears.
03:37From what I look into, it's not really anything that's coming out of a person's ear because it doesn't have
03:46the vacuum effect.
03:48For many years, I was absolutely convinced that that is wax.
03:53Now that it became such a controversy and I started looking more into it, I don't know.
03:58I don't know if that's what it is.
04:01In a way, I really don't think it matters.
04:03What matters is that the person feels better and it feels better immediately.
04:07I don't really need any more proof than that.
04:32They look like little ear wax cigars.
04:44Oh, that's a good one.
04:45That was your bad left ear.
04:48That's about how much came out at the doctor's.
04:51Really?
04:52Yeah.
04:53Cool.
04:54Gross, but cool.
04:56I just have to keep coming back and when I have a candle, then I'm a real member.
04:59There you go.
05:00Just a couple of years.
05:02Well, I mean, how big that is, I don't think it'll take a few years.
05:05That's pretty big, yeah.
05:18Well, two little bundles.
05:20I'm assuming the darker stuff is the ear wax and maybe the lighter stuff is the beeswax.
05:26Maybe?
05:27Yeah, maybe.
05:29It felt like a really big headphone in my ear.
05:33I didn't necessarily feel the heat.
05:35I more so heard the sizzling of my ear wax.
05:38As the fire came closer to my face, obviously, I started feeling it a little bit more.
05:43Ready to fart?
05:44Yeah, we're farting.
05:45Get out of me.
05:48It's been almost a month now since I've had the procedure and my ears definitely feel a
05:52lot less pressurized.
05:54They feel cleaner, which I'm kind of embarrassed to say.
05:57I don't necessarily feel I'm hearing better, but I feel a difference.
06:00So maybe I just don't listen.
06:02Personally, I'm kind of a one-or-done type of person.
06:05I just wanted to try ear kindling.
06:07So since I've put that off my list, I feel I'm good, but I wouldn't mind trying it again.
06:12There are good indications that it is already happening, and that is for the Eastern and
06:17Western medicine to come together.
06:20Everything works together.
06:22Everything is connected, and that is what is holistic.
06:25I hope that people start taking their health and the things that they're feeling into their
06:29own hands.
06:31Get to the answer, because if it makes you feel good, that's all that matters.
