00:01One worker has died and another seriously injured after a two-vehicle collision in the
00:07Peak Downs mine. This occurred around 5am this morning and we understand that a light
00:14vehicle was struck by a heavy vehicle and people inside were injured. One man unfortunately
00:21trapped and declared deceased at the scene. So another, the other occupant in that vehicle
00:26taken to Morumbah Hospital here and treated for chest and leg injuries. Initially he was
00:33considered to be in a potentially life-threatening condition. We've now heard that has been downgraded
00:38and he's in a stable condition. It's an incident that's affected a lot of people. We understand
00:44as well that or know that another person there at the scene suffered a medical episode. That
00:49was at about 5.30am, 30 minutes after the initial incident and he was flown to Mackay Base Hospital
00:55also in a stable condition. And people here in the town of Morumbah, which is a mining town,
01:02it's a small town and very close-knit, taking the time today to lay flowers, lay wreaths at the
01:08miners' memorial at the town centre. Also tonight we understand there is a memorial service to be held
01:17at dusk where people, community members are invited to come and just take a minute of silence and also
01:23some lanterns there as well just to commemorate this incident and the life lost. But it is an ongoing
01:30investigation, resources safety and health Queensland will be taking the lead into this, assisted by the
01:36forensic crash unit today, both deployed at the scene and also BMA assisting the owner of the mine,
01:44that's BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, closing the mine for 24 hours and also closing all of its mines
01:50in central Queensland, about five, for 24 hours just to allow that investigation to continue. So it's not
01:58often that we do see these types of incidents. Unfortunately, the last at the Peak Downs mine was
02:051986, Peter Reynolds passing there and another incident as well, 1974 with Athol Parry unfortunately
02:13passing away. So these are incidents that stick in the mind of locals here in Morumbah and that run
02:20through the community and we'll see you tonight as well. A lot of people gathering just to pay respects.
