A worker has died and another has been seriously injured at a central Queensland coal site after their vehicle was struck by a truck.

00:01The latest we've heard is unfortunately that one of those workers has died and the other
00:07has been seriously injured after being struck by the mining truck.
00:12Early reports indicate that the mining truck reversed over a light vehicle that had two
00:18men inside.
00:20The vehicle was struck just before 5am this morning.
00:24Resources Health and Safety Queensland are investigating the incident.
00:28Chief Executive Claire Cooper told us that their thoughts are with the victim's family
00:36at this time.
00:38A BMA spokesperson said they have shut down operations at the site.
00:43We also heard from the Mining and Energy Union.
00:46A spokesperson said that their priority is supporting workers while full circumstances
00:52of the incident are still being established.
00:54Queensland Police have also told us that their forensic crash unit are investigating.

01:03Peak Downs is an open pit coal mine.
01:05It's about 31 kilometres south-east of Morumbah.
01:09It's a major above-ground mine pit in Queensland's Bowen Basin.
01:14It opened in 1972 and is a joint venture owned by BMA, which is a joint venture between BHP
01:21and the Mitsubishi Alliance.
