00:14In a brief statement on Thursday, the U.S. Embassy said it celebrates this milestone and welcomes the newest members
00:21of the TTPS who took the oath of office about a week ago.
00:25The TTPS made the first public announcement about the swearing-in of the new police officers on Wednesday.
00:31A TTPS video showed Assistant Commissioner Police Richard Smith, the head of the Criminal Division, having administered the oath of
00:39office.
00:39The video also showed ACP Smith's message to the 201 new police officers at a time when the TTPS has
00:47received support and faced criticism about specific policing activities.
00:51But the fact is you were selected by the Almighty to be a police officer to serve him first and
00:58the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
01:00Despite me who might be here as an ACP now, despite Mr. Carty and the other FDOs here, you don't
01:05work for us, you know, you work with us, but you work for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
01:11That's what we're looking for.
01:13And when you go outside there reflecting the TTPS, and we are the premier law enforcement agency in this country,
01:20everybody look to us for guidance.
01:23Acting Senior Superintendent of Police, Ian Carty, the FDO in charge of the Police Academy, also addressed the 201 new
01:30Police Academy graduates.
01:33This ceremony is not merely the end of your training.
01:38It is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
01:43The oath you will take today is a solemn promise to uphold the Constitution and the laws of our nation,
01:51to protect life and property, to preserve peace, and to serve every citizen with fairness, impartiality, professionalism, and respect.
02:04The U.S. Embassy said strong professional law enforcement partnerships are critical to advancing regional security and addressing shared challenges.
