00:00I'm really honored that Hollywood Reporter wanted to honor us, and the more opportunity I get to the stand in
00:05front of a microphone to talk about this, I'm actually more comfortable talking about this than anything else.
00:09It's always a good time to give back. I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter here at the DGA Theater
00:14for the Social Impact Summit, where some of the biggest names in entertainment are being honored for their philanthropic efforts.
00:22Harrison Ford was on hand to present Philanthropic Organization of the Year to Michael J. Fox and Deborah W. Brooks
00:29for their work with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
00:33Through him, I've seen what his foundation does. Fill the gaps in the research. Get the right people in the
00:41room.
00:41Ford shared why it was important for him to be there and support his shrinking castmate.
00:45For the pure fact of what Michael is doing, it seems he's raised $3 billion in accounting for Parkinson's.
00:54He's dedicated, he's effective, he's smart, and he's my friend.
01:00And I'm playing a guy that's got Parkinson's, so I'm very interested in this subject.
01:05Shrinking co-creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence, who took the stage to moderate a conversation with Fox and Brooks, opened
01:12up about working with both Ford and Fox on the show and their special on-set relationship.
01:17I did a scene yesterday with Mike Fox and Harrison Ford together, and I was having this time warp thing
01:23of like, oh my god, this is my childhood of every movie and TV show I ever watched.
01:27It was amazing.
01:28Watching him and Mike connect has been a super career highlight for me.
01:31Plus, John Mayer received the Philanthropist of the Year Award for his work through the Heart and Armor Foundation, which
01:38aims to protect the health of veterans.
01:40The musician opened up about why advocating for the cause is important to him.
01:44It's one of the great challenges of our time.
01:47I think it is whether or not conflict or war is in the news, the need for veteran care is
01:53always there.
01:54It always has been there.
01:55And it's a really interesting spot for science to fill in.
02:00Steph and Aisha Curry, who couldn't be in attendance, were also honored as Philanthropists of the Year for their work
02:06with the Eat, Learn, Play Foundation.
02:08Meanwhile, the Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Award was presented to Gilead Sciences Incorporated.
02:13Other Hollywood stars who stepped out in support of causes they care about included Laverne Cox, Karamo Brown, and Sepideh
02:20Moafi.
02:20I think it's important to take time to celebrate the people who are actually doing something using their platforms for
02:27good.
02:28The summit also featured panels, including one on Black equity, Black excellence, the power of purpose.
