Houthi naval blockade: Two Saudi oil tankers hit, one ablaze in Red Sea

The Iranian-aligned Houthis said on Thursday (July 23) they struck two Saudi Arabian oil tankers as part of a naval blockade they are imposing on Saudi Arabia, threatening to create a second chokepoint on global oil supplies alongside the Strait of Hormuz crisis.  Meanwhile, the US military completed a new round of strikes on Iran, marking a 12th successive night of American attacks and prompting further Iranian retaliation. 02:55we really take ourselves back to the scenario that we were at the start of this war

03:00where we're losing oil from the Middle East through one outlet in the Hormuz

03:06we've been able to mitigate that slightly but we're re-blocking that passage with the escalation

03:12and now we're potentially shutting in another two to three million barrels per day of crude oil

03:18and you know a lot of other energy that flows through that straight

03:23really the knock-on implications are huge

03:25energy prices, food prices, cost of transport, inflation in general

03:34but maybe just adding a little bit on because we've blocked another escape valve for energy
