00:02Cancer awareness groups across Teesside are being offered funding to help people
00:06recognize symptoms and access support sooner. The Community Cancer Awareness and Screening Fund
00:13has been launched to support local projects focused on earlier diagnosis and improving
00:18access to health care. The scheme is being run by Point North with backing from the Northern
00:25Cancer Alliance. Grants of up to £2,500 are available for eligible organisations in areas
00:32including Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcare in Cleveland as well as some parts of Sunderland
00:38and Northumberland. The fund is aimed at communities where people can face greater barriers to health
00:43care. Those include people living in poverty, disabled people, ethnically diverse communities,
00:49travelling communities, shift workers, people experiencing homelessness and people with a
00:54criminal history. Supported projects must help with at least two priorities including raising
01:00awareness of bowel, breast, cervical or lung cancer symptoms, encouraging screening and reducing
01:06barriers to care. Applications are open to charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and social
01:13enterprises that meet the requirements. Projects could include workshops, outreach sessions, support groups
01:20or activities helping people access information and appointments. The fund is open for applications
01:26until Sunday, August the 23rd.
