00:00New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has called on US federal authorities to arrest Israeli
00:06Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the United States later this year.
00:11Mamdani said New York City does not have the legal authority to enforce the International
00:16Criminal Court's arrest warrant but argued the federal government should do so.
00:22The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense
00:27and Minister Joaf Galland in 2024 over alleged war crimes linked to the Gaza conflict.
00:33The court's member states are obliged to detain those subjects to its warrants, although the
00:38United States does not recognize the ICC's jurisdiction.
00:42It is clear that we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.
00:46The federal government, however, does. And I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant.
00:52And I want to be equally clear. Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City, nor is any other
00:58war
00:58criminal at large. While we cannot end the genocide on our own, we can decide whether our silence will
01:04become another weapon. And we can examine every tool we have to defend the humanity and dignity of all
01:11people. Netanyahu is expected to travel to New York in September for the United Nations General Assembly.
01:17Now, let's see.
