00:00It's been a gross and rainy day in New York, but that brought with it some surprising and good news
00:03for the Yankees.
00:04Instead of Max Freed starting a rehab game Wednesday night in Scranton,
00:08he's going to do it at Yankee Stadium in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Pirates.
00:12Freed was initially expected to make another rehab start tomorrow night with Scranton,
00:16but the rain out allowed the Yankees to change their plans and speed up Freed's return from the injured list.
00:22He last pitched May 13th against the Orioles at Camden Yards, left that game with a left elbow bone bruise.
00:28So it's been a while since he's been on the mound, but he threw a rehab game Friday night.
00:31That was his first one. He built up to 52 pitches, and now he's going to be back for the
00:36Yankees on Wednesday.
00:37He'll still be on a pitch count, probably somewhere around 60 pitches,
00:40but I think the Yankees kind of figured, you know, why waste those in the minor leagues?
00:44They were going to have to throw a bullpen game or bring up a spot starter at some point before
00:47he got back next week.
00:49So having the doubleheader now on Wednesday allowed them to kind of pivot from that plan
00:55and bring him up sooner than expected.
00:58So it should be an exciting day at Yankee Stadium, especially because Gary Cole starts Game 1,
01:02Max Freed going Game 2.
01:04It's going to be the first time that those two guys have shared their rotation together,
01:08and never mind pitching the same day.
01:10So for now, they're going to have Freed and Cole in the same rotation,
01:14plus Slytler, along with Will Warren and Ryan Weathers,
01:17as they kind of try to get this thing back on track.
01:21Obviously, they have the trade deadline coming up in a few weeks,
01:23but getting this addition from within is a potential to be a huge boost for the Yankees
01:27if Freed looks like, you know, what he's been for them really since the day he signed for the Yankees.
01:31He had a 3.21 ERA this season, so maybe he's only four innings tomorrow night,
01:35something like that, but it has a potential to be a huge boost for the Yankees
01:38if they try to get rolling.
01:39So, let's go ahead and see if you want.
