A massive political showdown erupted in the national capital over the medical entrance examination paper leak controversy. 00:26led by the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi,
00:30took to the streets,
00:32demanding Education Minister's resignation,
00:34a statement from the Home Minister in Parliament on the issue,
00:37and a full-fledged debate.
00:39The BJP initially reached out to the Congress for talks,
00:43only to later accuse it of shifting the goalposts.
00:47Viewers, all of this is happening,
00:49even as the CJP continues its protest at Jantar Mantar.
00:53One cause, two stages.
00:55Are there two agendas as well?
00:57The big question tonight is,
00:59is politics overshadowing the real cause?

01:12and today reached the Prime Minister's doorstep

01:18has triggered a full-blown political showdown in the capital.
01:29At around 3.30 p.m., Rahul Gandhi,
01:32Priyanka Gandhi,
01:33Malik Arjun Khargay,
01:34and top Congress leaders
01:35marched towards Lok Kalyan Maal.
01:41Minutes later, Congress top brass,
01:43along with its chief ministers,
01:45sat down in protest outside Seven Lok Kalyan Maal.
01:49Symbolic handcuffs on their wrists,
01:52chanting for Pradhan's resignation.
02:01The government decided to kick off a dialogue with Rahul Gandhi.
02:05Union Minister Jitendra Singh sent to break the deadlock.
02:09Jitendra Singh was seen in an intense conversation with Rahul Gandhi.

08:09And today, when we were raising the voice of the youth of students of this country,

08:16The image on your screen tells you the state of democracy in India.
08:20The man lying on the ground is the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi.
08:24And this is how the Delhi police was trying to extract him.
08:27You tell me, is it terrorism?
08:30Is it an act of terror to speak for the people of this country?
08:34Is it an act of terror to ask questions of this government?
08:36The reality, Maria, is that this government has turned barbaric.
08:40Its left arm doesn't know what the right is doing.

09:35sat in protest outside his residence,
09:37were they endangering national security?

09:45What has happened with our youth is a threat to national security.
09:49What has happened to the leader of the opposition and several others is a threat to national security.

11:39We want to stand with the youth, with the students who have had a very, very raw, shoddy deal

11:54We have been raising the demand for Dharmain Pradhan's resignation.
11:57We have been connecting with the youth, the Chhatru ki goons that Rahul Gandhi first did in Kota

12:05There are 120 hostels where we are having conversations tomorrow.
12:08And I am travelling myself to UP.
12:10And I will see the barbarism of the police there also.
12:12I know that.
12:13But we have decided the youth need to be heard, the students need to be given a voice.
12:18And so be it.
12:18Okay, ma'am, my last question, because, you know, just a few minutes ago, the BJP president
12:22has spoken and he has levelled a serious charge.
12:26His charge is that by holding this protest outside the prime minister's residence, Rahul
12:33Gandhi and his team have tried to incite anarchy.
12:37How will you respond to that?
12:38So is he saying that the youth of this country are anarchists?
12:42Is he saying that the students who were mercilessly beaten up are terrorists?
12:47Is he saying that the girl who is actually on a ventilator in Ram Manol Lohia Hospital between,
12:54you know, she's fighting for her life, injured by Amit Shah's Delhi police?
12:57Is she an anarchist?
12:58How dare they say that about our youth?
13:01How dare they say that about our students?
13:03The unprecedented clampdown.
13:05The barbarism that one saw yesterday against girls who are 16 years old.
13:10Girls were told, here from the church, they will leave their clothes.
13:18The reality is, this fight is for the future of this country.
13:22It's for the youth of this country.
13:23It's for the students of this country.
13:25If this government believes that 65% of India's population, because India is the youngest nation
13:30in the world, with population less than 35 years amounting to 65%.
13:35Is 65% of India anarchist?
13:37How dare they say that?
13:39And this bogey, they have worked in 2012, 2013, 2014, when you were putting anything out and it had taken
13:45us.
13:46Today, nobody is willing to buy this nonsense.
13:48This baloney has to stop and our children have to be respected and their future has to be protected.

14:02So, just a few minutes ago, Priyanka Gandhi, Wadra, Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the Congress Party,

14:10The question now is, will there be some extra security lair now outside the Prime Minister's residence?
14:20Because this sudden protest, almost like a flash protest, did take everyone by surprise.
14:31Maria, it was absolutely a rare sight to see two LOPs, two Chief Ministers and dozens of MPs sitting outside,
14:39seven LKM.
14:40And then we also, what we saw was absolutely unprecedented.
14:45You see Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, they were dragged, they were taken away in police vehicles.
14:52And right now I'm at Mandir Mark police station, where Priyanka Gandhi, Wadra, was lost.
14:58Here she was detained.
14:59And now we all know that all leaders have been released.
15:02Sonia Gandhi came in.
15:04So, clearly, you rightly pointed out that Congress this time caught government absolutely off guard.
15:12And they believe that government is on back foot.
15:15And if they'll continue to increase the heat on this issue, government will feel it.
15:20And that's why they are putting forward their demands again and again.
15:25Four demands primarily.
15:27A. Dharmendra Paddan should be sacked.
15:29He should be removed from his force.
15:31Second, there should be a statement from the Home Minister about yesterday's LH police crackdown.
15:37C. All the issues pertaining to students that students have been raising should be allowed to be discussed on the
15:44floor of the House.
15:45And fourth, there should be compensation for all those who were injured and all those who allegedly lost lives because
15:51of paper leaks.
15:52So, clearly, Congress is only pushing government further to the wall.
15:56They believe that what had happened in the last 48 hours is absolutely undemocratic.
16:03And that's why they are also blaming government for this.
16:05They are saying that government is not engaging with students.
16:08And that's why, you know, and they are also not diffusing the situation.
16:11So, expect that this narrative will continue and they will continue to raise these issues.
16:17The confrontation that we are seeing between the Treasury benches and opposition, it's only likely to continue as the monsoon

17:11But we have seen that how smoke canisters were used to disperse the protesters.
17:14So, Congress Party workers have also gathered outside the Chhatrasal Stadium, outside the model town police station where leader of
17:22opposition Rahul Gandhi was kept.
17:23But around 9, 9.15 he was released by the Delhi police and all the other leaders, the member parliaments
17:30and Prenka Gandhi was also released by the Delhi police around 9, 9.15.
17:34So, now we are trying to follow Rahul Gandhi that way he goes after that he is released by the
17:41Delhi police because today was a very tough day for both BJP and even for the Congress, Maria.

20:46we have always, in all our actions, we have displayed our solidarity with the cause of the youth.
20:53So, there is no reason why we will support malpractice and examinations.
20:58There is no question.
20:59No government would.
21:01Prime Minister Modi's government does not.
21:03Now, yesterday, a very senior cabinet minister, our Naddaji, who has plethora of experience in both administration and politics,
21:13called the children and they had good discussion in an atmosphere of bonhomie.
21:18Three demands have been given and I am sure, as I told you, I reiterate, there are processes involved.
21:25I am sure government is looking into the matter.
21:27We have to wait and watch.
21:29We have to trust the wisdom of our Prime Minister and the senior leaders of Modi government.
21:35So, I think, let us not be in haste.
21:38As far as, yeah, yeah, please, go ahead.
21:40Okay, ma'am, the concern certainly is that, did the government not foresee or perhaps underestimate the anger,
21:51what we saw play out on the streets of Delhi, the unprecedented gathering of the students,
21:59and, yes, there was a dialogue which happened yesterday.
22:03Should you have initiated that process of dialogue much earlier?
22:10See, there are two things, Maria, which I must say with all emphases.
22:14One is maintenance of law and order and which is the bounden duty of any elected government whatsoever,
22:21our government or any other government which has come prior to it.
22:25And number two, in a democratic setup, everybody has a right to stage protest,
22:31though it should be within the framework of the guidelines.
22:36So, I think the wise government, any wise government, any intelligent government,
22:43any rule-bound government will strike a balance between the two.
22:47We have to have some kind of balancing act while having, you know,
22:53while giving that particular right to people to stage protest as well as to maintain law and order.
22:58So, yesterday, let me tell you, we thanked the children because it was by and large peaceful protest from their
23:04side.
23:05We really appreciate that.
23:07Let me tell you, yesterday also, in one of the TV channel interviews, I was telling them,
23:11it was really amazing to see the children, the way they behaved, so very maturely.
23:16But at the same time, let me tell you, that minimum force was used by the police, let me say,
23:23because we have to maintain law and order.
23:25We are with the children wherever they are.
23:28In fact, today, the health minister had gone to the hospital to see whosoever was injured.
23:34Let me tell you, this is one part.
23:36And number two, as far as the government's attitude is concerned,
23:41we believe in debates in the parliament, not disruption.
23:46We believe in dialogue on the streets and not confrontation.
23:50So, there is a way an elected government has to behave.
23:53Now, the demands have been given.
23:56We will look into it.
23:57But in the meantime, I am surprised.
24:00Question hour is extremely important for ensuring parliamentary accountability.
24:05Now, here, yesterday, from all parts of the country, all the parliamentarians came.
24:11I, as a woman parliamentarian, was looking forward to a very good session in the Lok Sabha,
24:16the first day of the 8th session of the 18th Lok Sabha.
24:19And suddenly, at 11 o'clock, there is a disruption.
24:22Every half an hour, there is a disruption from the side of the opposition.
24:26Why so?
24:26Ma'am, I am going to speak now.
24:28In the business advisory committee, you decide what are the subjects that you need to discuss.
24:32Yeah, please.
24:33I am going to ask about...
24:34And, you know, there should have been no disruption by dialogue or debate within the Lok Sabha.
24:40You know, what we saw play out today,
24:42with Rahul Gandhi staging that protest in front of the prime minister's residence,
24:47and, of course, there was an attempt by the government to reach out.
24:51The Aam Admi Party is now alleging that there is some kind of jugalbandi between the BJP and the Congress.
24:57The centre, which did not respond for almost like a month to CJP protest,
25:03has responded with great alacrity and promptness to the protest which was held by Rahul Gandhi,
25:10with, you know, MOS, PMO having a dialogue with him within an hour of the protest starting.
25:18The entire country knows the character of Aam Admi Party.
25:23Aam Admi Party does not belong to anybody, not even to itself.
25:28It doesn't know what is its ideology, what is it saying.
25:32Now, let me tell you, Aam Admi Party has just criticized Rahul Gandhi.
25:38Now, let me tell you, the way we treat LOP has to be different.
25:43And this is the culture of our party.
25:45He is the leader of opposition.
25:48And when the leader of opposition sits in front of prime minister's residence,
25:52we will take cognizance.
25:54But I will definitely say that we have indeed taken cognizance of the children on the streets yesterday.
26:00And there had been series of meetings.
26:02And therefore, Naddaji had called the children for discussion.
26:05And I am sure the government is looking into it.
26:08But as far as LOP is concerned, we have highest regards for the seat of the LOP.
26:12And that is why Sri Jitendra Singhji went to him twice to convey what the government,
26:19what our leaders are saying, what our leaders are thinking.
26:21We have gone to request him to actually, you know, leave the dharna from that place.
26:26So, I think the leader of opposition has to be treated in such a manner.
26:30And our party is definitely a highly disciplined party.
26:34It knows its ways.
26:35And that is why we have reached out to the LOP.
26:38I think AAP should not have any kind of jealousy.
26:41If AAP would have been the LOP from his side,
26:44I think Mr. Sanjay Singh should have known we would have gone to him also.
