A new, potentially performance-boosting supplement called Urolithin A has been spotted in the pro cycling peloton. Discover what this pomegranate-derived substance is, its effects on mitochondria, and what experts are saying.
Transcript
00:00There's a new, potentially performance-boosting supplement quietly being used in the ProPeloton and at the Tour de France.
00:09It's called MitrePure, and it's a legal, highly pure form of a substance called Urolithin A, which is derived from
00:17pomegranates.
00:20Ahead of the tour, I spotted a box with its name on at the Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe Hotel, and
00:26have since spoken to some experts to learn all about it.
00:29Now, Red Bull denies using it, but I'm told off-record that at least one other team is using it.
00:37Early trials showed potent effects on mitophagy, the process of clearing out damaged mitochondria, which we all know is the
00:46powerhouse of the cell, and sparking the generations of new ones.
00:49But the experts I spoke to were wary, with one calling it an unknown, and the other just saying the
00:56evidence just isn't there.
01:00So hit the link in our bio to read the full story, and let us know in the comments what
01:04you think.
01:04Is this just another fad like ketones, or perhaps the next marginal gain?
01:10Bye.
