00:00A Liverpool street has been transformed by the creativity of local school children with 50 new banners featuring artwork designed
00:06by pupils from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School.
00:10Around 60 year five and six pupils have worked with artist Bridget Watkinson to create the designs which are now
00:15displayed along bold street in the city centre.
00:17The artist came into our school and took some people out and everybody got to go and we created bright,
00:24bold pictures of things on bold street like the cathedral and things and then the girl said to us that
00:37it's going to go into a big banner so we were really excited.
00:41The project was commissioned by Liverpool Business Improvement District and developed by Dot Art. Organisers say the artwork celebrates hope
00:50and community spirit exploring the themes of bold, bright and beautiful.
00:54Katie Bentley, Director of Strategic Partnership and Communications at Liverpool Business Improvement District said bold street reflects Liverpool's story through
01:02its food, art and retail.
01:04She said the project aims to make art accessible while giving young people a sense of belonging in the city
01:09centre.
01:09She said the banners would allow children to visit the street and see their own work displayed publicly creating a
01:15lasting connection between the pupils and the place where they live.
01:18I was a bit like excited because like I heard that like some people will get picked to put their
01:24pictures up on the thing so I was a bit excited and that because like it is like a really
01:31big deal in that and like it's like quite lucky to be picked and like your pictures on bold street.
01:39Lucy Byrne Managing Director at Dot Art said the organisation was lighter to work with Liverpool Bid to deliver the
01:44project.
01:45She said Bridget Watkinson's experience of working with young artists help pupils create vibrant images where opportunities like this can
01:53support confidence, well-being and creativity.
01:56Bridget Watkinson specialises in community projects that connect classroom creativity with public art.
02:01She works with primary schools to develop imaginative designs before transforming them into finished installations that celebrate local identity.
02:09It's really amazing. It's one of those things I can't quite believe it's true.
02:17So it's great to see it and to see the kids here as well and their faces and yeah, they're
02:26lovely, a lovely group, lovely school.
02:28The project has also been welcomed by Holy Cross Primary School.
02:32Deputy Headteacher Joe Hodges said pupils have developed a sense of pride and belonging by creating something that would make
02:38a lasting contribution to the wider community.
02:42The pupils involved said the project gave them the opportunity to be creative and they were proud to share their
02:48artwork.
02:49The project brings together pupils, artists, schools and the city centre organisations with the aim of showing how creativity can
02:55help strengthen connections between communities and the places they call home.
