00:00On June 20th, criminals cut four high-voltage TNTEC cables, feeding electricity to 30 transformers, which plunged hundreds of households
00:11in the Fairfield Estate's Princess Town HTC community into darkness for nearly 20 hours.
00:18The widespread outage and inconvenience was acknowledged and condemned by TNTEC and Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Philip Alexander.
00:27However, one month later and no agency has made an official report to police, no investigation launched into the vandalism
00:37of state infrastructure.
00:39This was revealed during a community meeting in Fairfield on Thursday night by Acting Superintendent of Police Lystra Bridgelal.
00:48Somebody had mentioned there was an offence at TNTEC. I can conclusively say that we didn't receive any report in
00:56the Princess Town station.
00:58So if you all have further information, let me know, please. So the police could respond in solving any crime
01:06for that particular case.
01:07At the meeting, HDC's Acting Managing Director, Wazir Aleem, told TV6 he believes it was TNTEC's responsibility to report the
01:18incident because the damaged cables belong to the utility.
01:22However, he said he has now instructed HDC officials to file a report with police.
01:29Attempts to contact Minister of Public Utilities, Barry Padarath, on the issue were unsuccessful.
01:35Meanwhile, residents also requested an update on the theft of copper cables, which shut down the community's Wasa sewage operations
01:44plant two weeks after the TNTEC incident.
01:49As we could ascertain that we are currently under attack by these elements.
01:53So it's just a matter of time before another station or another cable is cut and we are inconvenienced again.
02:00We do have the reports concerning the cable theft at Wasa, which is actively under investigation.
02:08And for that investigation, any member of the public who is willing to assist us, please let us know.
02:16Because at this point in time, we have not been able to solve that due to lack of evidence.
02:25The police has reached so far in that investigation and we continue to propel it forward.
02:31On July 10th, the government implemented a one-year ban on copper export with the aim of curbing the resurgence
02:39in vandalism and theft of state infrastructure.
