00:00John Gruden made a comment this week.
00:02He said that the evolution of the position at quarterback is dissolving,
00:07not evolving.
00:08Do you agree with that?
00:11Dissolving?
00:11Like it's getting worse?
00:13He's saying it's getting worse,
00:15and he's saying these quarterbacks aren't really getting ready.
00:18They're not ready when it comes to reading these defenses in the NFL today.
00:23Do you agree or disagree with that?
00:25Man, I disagree.
00:26I mean, my God, I'm looking at some of these guys.
00:29I don't care if Caleb Williams is making bad reads.
00:32It's a good thing sometimes because he throws like 60-yard touchdowns or whatever.
00:37Yeah, I think the league continues to get better and better at quarterback,
00:43and there's going to be more additions coming in next year.
00:45They're probably going to be starting quarterbacks pretty soon in their careers.
00:50So, yeah, you know, just look at the teams.
00:52Look at the talent of the quarterback.
00:54Now, if you don't like the offense, which a lot of times that derails the quarterback,
01:00bad coaching, bad offense, and not the right players around you will make you look like you're getting more money
01:06than you deserve.
01:07But I think, man, there's a lot of good physically, really, a lot of tremendously gifted quarterbacks in the league,
01:16and some waiting to get in to leave.
01:19And let me get through this real quick, Dan.
01:21Warren Moon, you had him on.
01:23Look, nobody could throw it better than that damn guy could.
01:26It didn't matter what the weather was, where he threw it, there was going to be a spiral.
01:29And I was at Moorhead State, and I remember after my junior year, I knew,
01:34I'd already marked a few QBs, and I said, oh, good.
01:38Warren Moon's coming out this year.
01:39He's a year ahead of me.
01:40I don't have to worry about him.
01:43So what a career he had.
01:44It's amazing.
01:46What were they looking at?
01:48It's amazing he had to go to Canada.
01:51I don't know if it was about money, whatever, but went up there, and he played great, of course,
01:55won many titles, and carried it over to the NFL.
01:59Now, I'll carry a Tom Brady comment on what you just said by saying he thinks the same thing as
02:05you,
02:06and so did Warren Moon.
02:07He agreed with you.
02:08He thinks that the game right now, these players are great.
02:11However, are the offensive coordinators up to par?
02:15Do you think that the offensive coordinators, you know, Phil,
02:18they make all these lists for the top 25 quarterbacks or the top 32 quarterbacks.
02:22They never make a list on the top 32 coordinators.
02:26Do you think they're evolving in the game?
02:29Well, you know, I would say this.
02:31I would hope they are, but you know what?
02:33The defenses, the meetings, whatever goes on with all teams, they just see everything,
02:38and they work on it.
02:39So, yeah, it's going to get tougher.
02:41There's no doubt about that.
02:43But for coordinators, give them enough talent.
02:47Yeah, I do.
02:47There are certain guys I like in the NFL.
02:49Some I go, boy, I watch their offense, and, man, I was running something that simple in college,
02:54and you're doing it in the pros, or let me rephrase that, trying to do it in the pros.
02:58So, that's a big deal.
03:00I look at, look out with the Chargers.
03:03Do you think Mike McDaniels is going to make that offense better?
03:10You've got to watch.
03:11No, it's going to be, it could be like, look out.
03:14And if they can avoid injuries, my God, the Chargers, I don't know what they do.
03:18Maybe it's the water, whatever.
03:20But it just seems like the injury bug hits them a lot more than it does some of the teams
03:24in the NFL.
03:26But I can't wait to see what they do with Justin Herbert.
03:29Oh, Justin Herbert can't win the playoff game.
03:32Oh, he's overrated.
03:33All these people.
03:34He's not overrated.
03:36Oh, you know, I think I'm yelling.
03:38I don't mean to yell.
03:39But he's not overrated.
03:41He's big.
03:42He can really run.
03:44He's got a tremendous arm.
03:46And he is dead-ass accurate, too.
03:48I'll never forget, who was it?
03:52Oh, the offensive coordinator out there with Justin Herbert.
03:55Greg, was it Greg Roman, or was it Harbaugh?
03:58Greg Roman, Greg Roman, Greg Roman.
03:59Well, yeah, I knew he was there, but I made the statement.
04:01He goes, it's great to have a quarterback where you can get a 60-yard handoff.
04:05And when he said that, I just laughed.
04:07I go, God, that is so true.
04:09There's no limit to where he can't – he can make any throw anywhere in the field
04:14just because of his God-given ability.
04:17I agree.
04:18I got him as my preseason favorite to win the MVP award.
