00:00Just a few weeks ago, during the holiday weekend of July 4th, there were hundreds of thousands of people in
00:05the dark
00:06because of a quick line of storms that brought 60-mile-an-hour winds to the area.
00:10And yesterday, U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib addressed DTE, the power provider, on the House floor.
00:17We have the most unreliable service in the region, yet we pay the highest rates.
00:22Shame on them for throwing $42 reimbursement for spoiled groceries and spoiled medicine,
00:28especially when grocery and drug prices have increased.
00:31We can't even rely on DTE to get us through the summer storm.
00:35This was a 20-minute storm.
00:39Shame on you, DTE, for profiting off of our pain.
00:43To my residents, it doesn't have to be like this.
00:46The Michigan Public Service Commission needs to stop approving DTE rate increases.
00:51Instead, hold DTE accountable.
00:53In May, Tlaib introduced the Make DTE Pay Act to penalize utility companies that request rate increases
00:59within two years of violating the Clean Air Act.
