00:00Mr. Speaker, it is outrageous and shameful that the president sent in the military to brutalize
00:08protesters in Los Angeles. The right to dissent in our country is an American value. This is
00:14just evidence, evidence that our country is falling into fascism. It is an abuse of power
00:20and a dangerous escalation that will only destabilize our communities and hurt protesters.
00:27I stand with those defending our immigrant neighbors and our fundamental rights. Nothing
00:32justifies it. Nothing. And spending $134 million of our tax dollars to send in troops to attack
00:40fellow Americans. Immigrant communities have been telling us for years, Mr. Speaker, they've
00:46been warning us for years about ICE being rogue, violating their rights. It is outrageous.
00:53And now people are now seeing it for themselves and understanding why we say abolish ICE, which
00:59was created in 2003. So I agree with them. I agree that abolishing ICE is protecting our
01:06communities and our neighbors. It has caused so much needless harm since their creation
01:12in 2003. This month, Mr. Speaker, a high school senior in my district, Mikel Bogoya Dorante,
01:21a high school student, he was 3.5 credits shy of graduating from Western International High
01:28School. He was on a field trip with his classmates and local police profiled him. Yes they did.
01:35Yes they did. Oh, he can't speak English. Let's call immigration. He spoke English just fine.
01:42That set the motion in separating him from his mother, his school community, and ripping his
01:49chance to be able to graduate with his classmates. ICE's cruelty is evident because they sent him
01:58to Louisiana. He had paperwork on file. He was trying to do the right thing. He was just a kid.
02:09The cruelty is disgusting and the Trump administration is desperately trying to label kids like Michael
02:16as a criminal. We must reject this rhetoric and policies that pit our immigrant communities
02:23against each other, tear families apart, and put our neighbors in harm's way. Again, Mr. Speaker,
02:30it is important to understand the cruelty and how we need to make sure that again we protect
02:35our communities.
