00:00:08it's time for some U.S. footy. That's right, U.S. men's national team getting underway today against Paraguay.
00:00:14USA! USA! USA! USA! We also have the Bears stopping by, giving you some gambling advice for this World Cup.
00:00:22We got Megan's Money Corner coming up. We got Chief with us all throughout the World Cup. And look at
00:00:27that, dude. John Calpart is going to stop by the show as well. What a day here on Wake Up
00:00:32Barstool, and it all starts now.
00:00:58Let's go! T-Bob Aber, Michael Koedick, Dana Beers, we got Chief, we got Megan Making Money here in the
00:01:05studio.
00:01:05So, and once again, guys, at the start of today's show, I think it's important. I've been trying in my
00:01:12life as I get older, you know, and, you know, experience more time.
00:01:16You got a time, it speeds up, right? We're just hurtling towards death. So I'm trying to be present. I'm
00:01:22trying to be present, Dana. That's the point here.
00:01:24We're hurtling towards death. Exactly. We're accelerating towards it. Good morning. Good morning.
00:01:30I'm trying to be present. I'm trying to give thanks and be gracious when we get good things and feel
00:01:37and bask in that gratitude.
00:01:39And look at the sports right now, guys. We got Stanley Cup Final that kicks ass and is a back
00:01:44and forth torrid affair.
00:01:46Last night, Hurricanes getting it done. They're now up three games or two. We'll get into that.
00:01:50We got the NBA Finals featuring one of the most legendary franchises on the planet.
00:01:54Looking to break a 50-year championship drought going against the alien, the prince that was promised.
00:02:00We got Omaha College Baseball opening up today to decide national champion with a bunch of teams that have never
00:02:05been there before.
00:02:06They might struggle to break in today. And then we have the World Cup, guys. Gets underway yesterday.
00:02:12It's in North America. And the home team, the U.S., plays today in a massive opening match against Paraguay.
00:02:20So, again, guys, here on June, we give thanks. How are we feeling, boys?
00:02:26Feeling so patriotic today.
00:02:28Yeah.
00:02:28Dan and I are heading to D.C. We're going to be in the capital of the United States watching
00:02:34the USA.
00:02:35It's going to be awesome.
00:02:36A few beers.
00:02:38A few beer.
00:02:39A few snacks.
00:02:40One, ten, ten, twenty-five beer.
00:02:41What better way to honor America than drink as many beers as your body can physically handle getting ready for
00:02:48this footy match tonight?
00:02:49T-Bub, I just want to say on this morning sports show, sports are the best, man.
00:02:53Yep.
00:02:54I agree.
00:02:54So many sports.
00:02:55So many sports.
00:02:56I love sports.
00:02:57I am sad that basketball is coming to an end soon, and hockey is as well.
00:03:01But it's okay, because we got footy.
00:03:03Well, it's cool, too, because, like, specifically this weekend, whatever your favorite flavor is, there's something for you at the
00:03:11sports bar.
00:03:12That's right.
00:03:12Like, everybody's getting served this weekend.
00:03:15Chief, what's up, man?
00:03:16How was your, as a resident in-house footy lover, one of, how was your opening day World Cup experience?
00:03:22I loved it.
00:03:23I thought the atmosphere in Mexico seemed great.
00:03:26The game last night.
00:03:27I don't know how you do this, T-Bub.
00:03:28I had to stay.
00:03:29I was up until, like, 11.30 last night.
00:03:31Up early.
00:03:32I'm exhausted.
00:03:33I'm going to be honest.
00:03:34I fell asleep.
00:03:35Okay.
00:03:36That makes me feel better.
00:03:37That's how I did it.
00:03:37I fell asleep and then caught up on the game this morning.
00:03:40I mean, yeah, I record a lot of things on, you know, whatever, like my TV and then watch it.
00:03:46But, yeah, fantastic game last night.
00:03:49I'm kind of bummed that I fell asleep.
00:03:50Yeah, awesome game last night.
00:03:50Incredible game.
00:03:51Awesome game last night.
00:03:52Korea gets the win.
00:03:53So I feel like now we're, like, we're up and running.
00:03:56We're in it.
00:03:57Now we get USA Today.
00:03:58To me, that's when the tournament really starts.
00:04:00So, and then it's just basically every day, multiple games a day for six weeks.
00:04:05It's going to be great.
00:04:06Jadick, have you ever heard of DVR?
00:04:08Like the, you stick the thing in?
00:04:10What?
00:04:11That's a DVD.
00:04:12What?
00:04:13That's called a DVD.
00:04:15DVR, is that you can rewind and stuff?
00:04:17Or a DVR come and go so fast is a concept.
00:04:21No, no, no.
00:04:21I know DVR.
00:04:22I was thinking DVR is like you rewind, you put the thing.
00:04:26Do you even TiVo?
00:04:28Do you know what TiVo is?
00:04:29Yeah, dude, of course.
00:04:30He doesn't know what TiVo is, dude.
00:04:31You're so young.
00:04:32Wow, unbelievable.
00:04:33You're so young and naive.
00:04:34Hey, what's up?
00:04:34Our wonderful princess of the Fridays, how are we feeling today?
00:04:39I'm feeling great.
00:04:40I also stayed up late to finish those games.
00:04:43My son is a humongous soccer guy.
00:04:45Hell yeah.
00:04:45We stayed up late watching it.
00:04:47That Mexico game was really entertaining.
00:04:49Got a little chippy.
00:04:50Lots of cards being thrown around.
00:04:53So really enjoyed that.
00:04:54Hit my first soccer bet yesterday.
00:04:56A little parlay, like plus 178.
00:04:59Take it.
00:04:59Why did I go with you?
00:05:01Instead, I'm riding with Chief, and Mexico doesn't want to play aggressive enough to get enough
00:05:04shots on net, even though they're sitting there up two men.
00:05:06I gave you a bet for the price of a stamp that's going to pay a quarter million dollars.
00:05:10That's true.
00:05:11That's true.
00:05:12We have a 32-cent bet to win 250K.
00:05:14Yeah.
00:05:14It's totally going to hit.
00:05:15So when me and Chief are super rich, guys, I'm going to buy everybody a ton of beers.
00:05:20Don't forget about us, boys.
00:05:21It's going to be great.
00:05:22It's going to be great.
00:05:23I'll hold you to that.
00:05:24And look, and there's regular season baseball.
00:05:27Yeah.
00:05:27Like, I imagine when we go to the Money Corner later in the show, we're going to be putting
00:05:32together a baseball parlay.
00:05:33So again, guys, a ton to get to.
00:05:35But let's start on the ice.
00:05:37Last night, you know, the always critical Game 5 series tied two-piece, incredible twists
00:05:45and turns, record-setting performances, seemingly night in and night out.
00:05:49And although the script kind of changed in this one, where I thought it was such a good
00:05:55omen for the Knights when Eichel and Dorfeev team up for that goal, because both of them
00:06:00have really been struggling.
00:06:01Like, oh my God, okay, if they come alive, like, Vegas is going to be fine.
00:06:04And yet, instead of Vegas in the second period, Chief, the Canes absolutely took over in that
00:06:09second frame.
00:06:10That building is rocking when the Canes are good.
00:06:12The Caniacs were out in full force.
00:06:14Erling Haaland, superstar from Norway in Manchester City, was there.
00:06:18It seemed like he was having a great time.
00:06:20But yeah, the Canes at home, they just play that suffocating style.
00:06:23They've been so close over the years.
00:06:25And you mentioned Eichel and Dorfeev.
00:06:27Sveshnikov showed up.
00:06:29So he had not really been the superstar.
00:06:32He came through big last night for them.
00:06:34Two big goals.
00:06:36He was really the difference.
00:06:37And then Jordan Stahl.
00:06:39I don't know how old he is.
00:06:4137, bro.
00:06:4237.
00:06:42Let's go, our age.
00:06:43I remember when he was with the Penguins back in 07.
00:06:46He was my favorite player.
00:06:47Yeah.
00:06:47And then he's been in Carolina forever.
00:06:49He teamed up with his brother.
00:06:50His brother's long retired now.
00:06:52And he's holding on.
00:06:53It feels like it would be such a fitting end to start his career with the Penguins, with
00:06:58the cup, and then put the last little bookend on there with Carolina.
00:07:01So it's a great story.
00:07:03They're going back to Vegas.
00:07:04Did you guys see the quote from Tortorella, the coach of Vegas?
00:07:07No, what he said.
00:07:08Like, I'm leaving my luggage here.
00:07:09I'm leaving the suits here.
00:07:10We're coming right back here.
00:07:11Oh, okay.
00:07:11So he's, like, predicting, being bold.
00:07:13He's a great coach, great quoter.
00:07:17So that game six is going to be great in Vegas over the weekend.
00:07:21I think that's Sunday night.
00:07:22And, yeah, it's been an awesome, awesome series.
00:07:25Yeah.
00:07:26I mean, how about Stahl, though?
00:07:28Oh, yes.
00:07:29I was going to ask, Chief, as kind of the hockey guy in the room right now, did you expect
00:07:35this series to be what it is right now?
00:07:37I mean, you can't expect a series that's this wild with, like, teams blowing leads left
00:07:43and right, the overtimes.
00:07:45I thought it would be a tight series, but this has been wildly entertaining.
00:07:49Typically, I hate watching Carolina play.
00:07:51They play this kind of man-to-man defense.
00:07:53It gets so, like, kind of bogged down, and they just wear people down.
00:07:56And I'm worried that that's happening to Vegas, because it did kind of seem...
00:08:00Last night was the most regular game that we've had yet.
00:08:04And I wonder if they're starting to wear them down a little bit with their D-zone and their
00:08:09four-check.
00:08:10But, yeah, it's been great.
00:08:11I thought it would be a six- or seven-game series, but how do you predict something like
00:08:16this?
00:08:16This has been an all-time Stanley Cup final.
00:08:18I feel like people aren't paying attention, because it's Carolina and it's Vegas.
00:08:22And there's, like you said, so many other sports going on.
00:08:25The Knicks are in the finals.
00:08:26Yeah, Knicks are taking up a lot of the oxygen in the room, for sure.
00:08:29But it's been...
00:08:30If you're, like, a real hockey fan, like, this has been must-watch TV.
00:08:33It's in...
00:08:34You know, you mentioned Stahl and kind of his career arc.
00:08:37Yeah, his last Stanley Cup final goal is coming when he was 20 years old, 17 years ago.
00:08:44A goal.
00:08:45A goal.
00:08:45He now has six goals in five games.
00:08:48He's scored in every game.
00:08:49It's...
00:08:49The consistency is...
00:08:51And he's a cat.
00:08:52Like, it's just...
00:08:53Yeah.
00:08:53My question to you, from...
00:08:55Because, like, I watch these games, and I can understand the storylines.
00:08:58I can understand the general feel.
00:09:00But what I cannot understand from, like, a schematic standpoint is how all of a sudden
00:09:06the Hurricane special teams have just completely taken over this series.
00:09:10Because it was hapless for a lot of playoffs and hapless for a lot of this series.
00:09:13And then ever since...
00:09:14I think it was when Vegas had that 2-0 lead.
00:09:17They kind of had their first power play breakthrough, and since then, Vegas looks completely discombobulated
00:09:23when they're trying to shut down Carolina's power play.
00:09:26Well, T-Bob, your guess is as good as mine.
00:09:27Yeah.
00:09:27Because it's not like they've made any real changes, personnel, or anything like anything else.
00:09:32Sometimes it just clicks.
00:09:34Yeah.
00:09:34And, you know, Goss is out there, and they do have...
00:09:37They do have a ton of talent.
00:09:38They got guys that can rifle the puck.
00:09:40We saw Svetlakov last night.
00:09:42Also, Vegas gave them a ton of chances, and you felt like Vegas might start to be crawling
00:09:47back into that game, and then they get the double minor, and then it was like, you know,
00:09:51that kind of sucked all the momentum out when you give up a four-minute power play.
00:09:55So it was...
00:09:56It was...
00:09:57You just can't take...
00:09:58You can't spend that much time in the box.
00:10:00I had the split screen going between Korea and Czech Republic.
00:10:05Hell yeah.
00:10:05And the Vegas-Carolina game, and it just felt like every time I looked over, I'm like,
00:10:11oh, Carolina's on another power play.
00:10:12So you just...
00:10:13That's got to be an adjustment for game six.
00:10:15Like, you have to be more disciplined.
00:10:16You can't keep taking these penalties.
00:10:18And Vegas has got to...
00:10:19It's been a little bit of puck luck going against them, too, where it's like they have these
00:10:23like seemingly golden chances.
00:10:25They're just like a centimeter away from either being on the guy's stick.
00:10:29Game four, we saw Eichel rifle one off the crossbar, missed the crossbar by that much
00:10:34later in the game.
00:10:35So it's like they're right around it, but they're just missing.
00:10:40So I don't know what the secret sauce is for Carolina's power play.
00:10:43Maybe it's just reps, and Vegas got to stay out of the bar.
00:10:46Yeah, they're getting a lot of opportunities, and kind of my final note in the game would
00:10:49just be talking about Brandon Bussey.
00:10:51And it's not like we're seeing like...
00:10:52Bussey.
00:10:53I knew that was coming.
00:10:54Brandon Bussey.
00:10:55I knew that was coming.
00:10:56Of course.
00:10:57You know, it's interesting because all of my...
00:10:59The first thing I've said.
00:11:00All of my hockey...
00:11:01We got Calipari coming up soon.
00:11:04All of my hockey references just kind of go back to my childhood, right?
00:11:07And he's not putting together like Patrick Waugh or like Martin Brodeur, like 30-plus save
00:11:13performances.
00:11:13But to be a first-year player, I know that technically word, first-year player in this
00:11:20situation, on this stage, and to look so composed.
00:11:23Like he doesn't look overwhelmed.
00:11:25He looks like he's in complete control.
00:11:26Well, the 6'4 lefty, Bussey, very impressed with him, and now just one game away from
00:11:31closing out a Stanley Cup final, dude.
00:11:34Yeah, and look, he gets a lot of help.
00:11:35Carolina defensively, they're so good.
00:11:38Jacob Slavin, probably the best defensive defenseman in the league.
00:11:41Condren Miller, also very good defensively.
00:11:43They really buy into Brindamore's system as a whole unit.
00:11:48You know, 21 shots against, 25 shots against.
00:11:51Not like insane.
00:11:52But like, it's the old hockey cliche, like you got to make the stops you're supposed
00:11:56to.
00:11:57He's doing his job.
00:11:58He's doing that.
00:11:59So he might just lead them right to the promised land.
00:12:02Absolutely insane.
00:12:03So again, that'll be potentially decided this weekend.
00:12:07Coming up tomorrow night, you could have the NBA finals potentially decided.
00:12:12All right, Dana, here we go.
00:12:14We haven't got to talk to you since the hand of God, OG Ananobi.
00:12:17Very appropriate that Maradona honored on the day when the World Cup started with the most
00:12:22insane one-handed tip that we've seen since Maradona.
00:12:26Maybe a championship winning tip.
00:12:27What was your reaction to that Game 4 comeback?
00:12:31I mean, honestly, it's truly one of the greatest games I've ever watched.
00:12:36And it's unfortunate because as a Celtics fan, you don't want to see the Knicks in this
00:12:41position, but you got to give them credit.
00:12:43That was truly the greatest comeback I've ever witnessed.
00:12:47And I've seen 28-3.
00:12:48I will give 28-3 to Nod because I think it's harder in football.
00:12:53From a basketball perspective, that's obviously the greatest comeback of all time.
00:12:58But listen, the thing with the Knicks is all four of these, all five of these games, it
00:13:05feels like, or four of these games, it feels like the Spurs have had the chance to put them
00:13:10away.
00:13:10Yeah.
00:13:11And they just haven't done it.
00:13:13And you can see that that's the youth and inexperience against the more experienced team.
00:13:18And you saw it in Game 4.
00:13:20It's just, they were up 29 points.
00:13:23That's insane.
00:13:23I mean, 20 points with eight minutes to go.
00:13:26Even yet, they did a great job of cutting to 15, going into the fourth, and you're kind
00:13:29of like, okay.
00:13:30You kind of had the feeling.
00:13:31But then you're middling through the first quarter of that fourth quarter, and all of a
00:13:34sudden, the Spurs are back up 20.
00:13:37But that's the thing.
00:13:37The rhythm was against the Knicks.
00:13:39They were dead.
00:13:40That's the thing with the NBA.
00:13:41If you watch any regular season NBA, you will see 20, 25-point comebacks all the time.
00:13:47Because teams get up early, and they get a little comfortable.
00:13:50Maybe the second quarter, they're up 25 points.
00:13:53You'll see these comebacks pretty consistently in the regular season.
00:13:57But for it to happen in the NBA Finals is unheard of.
00:14:01I know the Celtics did it back in, I don't know, 2000.
00:14:04Yeah, look at that.
00:14:05They didn't just come back.
00:14:06They came back with, like, the NBA completely gifting Wimby, like, every single thing possible.
00:14:11Yeah.
00:14:12I mean...
00:14:12Like, they were trying to stretch that game out.
00:14:15They didn't...
00:14:16That call, whenever he pushed Brunson, like, that should have been a flagrant.
00:14:20Like, that's insane.
00:14:21Yeah, they even reviewed and said it wasn't.
00:14:22I kind of like...
00:14:23Yes, yes, Michael.
00:14:25Basketball question.
00:14:26Yes.
00:14:26Was that De'Aaron Fox who had the breakaway with 13 seconds left?
00:14:29Yeah.
00:14:30Yep.
00:14:30So, I mean, usually you're supposed to just hold that thing, right?
00:14:33Yeah, I mean, I can...
00:14:34Bounce it out and...
00:14:35I can see it in the moment being such, like, a fast play, and his momentum's going towards
00:14:40out of bounds.
00:14:40So, I can see him maybe trying to draw a foul real quick, but the smart thing...
00:14:45He said he thought he was just faster.
00:14:47Okay, yeah.
00:14:47He said he thought he was just faster.
00:14:48He said he normally is.
00:14:49Yeah.
00:14:50Yeah, but I'm not...
00:14:50It's easy for us sitting on...
00:14:52So, is that not a backcourt?
00:14:53Yeah.
00:14:54No, it's not a backcourt because the entire body and ball has to come across.
00:14:58That was actually good situational awareness by Alvarado there.
00:15:00Sorry.
00:15:01It's easy for us sitting here in our seats on a Friday morning to be like, oh, I would
00:15:05have dribbled that ball out, but it's...
00:15:08The game is fast.
00:15:09You know, he thought he was making the right play.
00:15:11It wasn't, but it happens, and it's unfortunate for the Spurs.
00:15:14I think...
00:15:15I mean, I would have liked to see the Spurs win this series somehow.
00:15:20I hope they come back, but it's just the situational...
00:15:24It's an experience that, you know, you're playing with 22-year-old kids, and that's
00:15:28your leader there.
00:15:29He's your point guard.
00:15:30He's supposed to make the right play, and he didn't.
00:15:31And he is your vet, really, on that team.
00:15:33Yeah, he is your vet.
00:15:35And to me, though, it's like, I hate focusing on the De'Aaron Fox factor there because,
00:15:39to me, that's about OG Ananobi and the chase-down block.
00:15:42Yeah.
00:15:42Because, again, like we said, everybody talks about the tip, and why not, of course.
00:15:45But, like, the fact that those two plays happened in a single sequence may be the greatest
00:15:51championship sequence that we've ever seen when you look at the stakes and everything
00:15:55that was on the line.
00:15:56And, like, those are the type of plays that you look back on that win championships.
00:15:59But the Knicks have to finish.
00:16:01Do we think...
00:16:02Yes, Matt?
00:16:02I was going to say, let's not forget that, like, missed layup was going to be a dunk by
00:16:06heart.
00:16:07Like, that would have put them up those two points that they need, or the point that they
00:16:10needed.
00:16:10And so, it was like, again, I am not an NBA girl, but this series has been so incredibly
00:16:15entertaining to watch for me personally.
00:16:18Like, that game probably has now, like, catapulted me into watching the NBA.
00:16:24Well, and what I loved about the Josh Hart, I loved the Josh Hart, I'd say, after the game,
00:16:28we didn't get into it on the show yesterday, though, I wanted to, but he straight up was
00:16:32thanking OG for basically saving him a lifetime of infamy.
00:16:36Yeah.
00:16:36Because, like, when he comes up with that steal, it's in perfect momentum with the
00:16:41comeback.
00:16:41It's finally going to give them the lead, and then he absolutely blows it.
00:16:45Like, if they go on to lose that game, I don't know if he's exactly Bill Buckner's status,
00:16:50but, like, he's not far off.
00:16:51He had a tough stretch, not only that missed layup.
00:16:54Yeah.
00:16:54He had a bad foul.
00:16:56He didn't box out on a Stephon Castle rebound, but you're right.
00:17:01If it didn't go their way, he's probably the GOAT.
00:17:05And he acknowledged it.
00:17:07Like, he, after the game, which I thought was pretty cool.
00:17:09Dana, do you think the Spurs come back here?
00:17:11I think the Spurs actually get game five.
00:17:13I think they get game five, and luckily for all the New York fans, they can win in New
00:17:19York City and go beat up more people on the streets in New York City.
00:17:21I want them to win game five.
00:17:23I want the Knicks to win because Che and Memes and Zach are going to be there.
00:17:27Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:17:27Like, that's a murderer's row of, like, people at our company.
00:17:30I need to see those three together, like, watching the trophy being hoisted.
00:17:35Seeing our best boy memes crying when he got gifted the tickets was very nice.
00:17:42And let's not forget OG Ananobi Hoosier.
00:17:45There you go.
00:17:45Let's not forget.
00:17:47I did forget that.
00:17:48From the caveman in the glasses.
00:17:51The guy that went to Purdue couldn't have made that play.
00:17:52Coming up next, we're going to talk footy, baby.
00:17:56USA, Paraguay today.
00:17:57And look, we've got our best soccer guy, Michael Kadik, on the case here to break down what
00:18:01you can expect on the pitch today.
00:18:03Let's go.
00:18:04More Wake Up Barstool on the other side.
00:18:06USA!
00:18:08USA!
00:18:09USA!
00:18:10USA!
00:18:11USA!
00:18:11USA!
00:18:12USA!
00:18:17The biggest World Cup ever is here!
00:18:20The U.S.
00:18:21Men's National Team kicks off their World Cup dreams tonight in Los Angeles.
00:18:26Pregame at 6 Eastern with the match getting underway at 9.
00:18:30And you already know, it's only on Fox.
00:18:33All right, boys.
00:18:34Here we are.
00:18:35It's time!
00:18:37It's time!
00:18:38A massive, massive game for the U.S.
00:18:41Men's National Team.
00:18:42The oft-labeled golden generation.
00:18:46Everything on the line tonight.
00:18:48The stakes, the storylines, the country itself.
00:18:51We have a tweet that they're in my ear about.
00:18:54Look at that.
00:18:55Imagine all the international footy fans in America for the World Cup turn to TV in their
00:18:58hotel slash Airbnb.
00:19:00And FS1 is on.
00:19:01And you get this hype crew as your morning hello.
00:19:05That's true.
00:19:05We should.
00:19:06Welcome to all of our wonderful international travelers.
00:19:10We have thoroughly enjoyed watching your journeys to America from afar.
00:19:17I agree.
00:19:17You see that Freddy guy?
00:19:19I was watching his.
00:19:21I mean, he's all the way by everything.
00:19:23Tiago, Freddy, Thora.
00:19:24Yeah.
00:19:25It's overwhelming positivity.
00:19:27In fact, as we celebrate, you know, 250 years of this country right now, and a lot of times,
00:19:36you know, nowadays, we're always at each other's throats.
00:19:38You can be very cynical.
00:19:39Like, in a weird way, viewing this country through the lens of these international travelers
00:19:46has made me more proud and more patriotic than almost anything else in my life lately.
00:19:51It's like, wait, is America sweet?
00:19:53Yeah.
00:19:53Yeah.
00:19:53Wait, no, we are good.
00:19:54Yeah, we're good.
00:19:56America's sick, dude.
00:19:57And he's just on the, and Freddy, I've just been watching him, he's just on the East Coast,
00:20:01kind of.
00:20:02Yeah, well, I mean.
00:20:02I'm like, you haven't even gotten to the Midwest.
00:20:04You haven't gotten to the West Coast.
00:20:05Who is the guy that's going through the South, I believe?
00:20:08Yeah, that's the guy where he did, like, the inner tube on the Chattanooga River.
00:20:11Yeah, he was on the Chattahoochee, bro.
00:20:14I grew up on the Chattahoochee.
00:20:15It's crazy.
00:20:16That's just a hilarious, like, visual.
00:20:19Just anyone not from America being on the Chattahoochee.
00:20:22They're out there eating Waffle House, dude.
00:20:24They're going, I mean.
00:20:25Buckees, they're going.
00:20:26They saw a soccer game at Jordan-Hare.
00:20:27There's nothing better than floating down a river with a 12-pack.
00:20:31Oh, it's the absolute best, dude.
00:20:31Yeah, that's facts.
00:20:33It's the absolute best.
00:20:34All right, so, welcome to America, guys.
00:20:36And we are sweet.
00:20:38Love you, guys.
00:20:39But are we sweet on the pitch?
00:20:41No, we're coming at your throats on the pitch.
00:20:43That's a bigger question.
00:20:45And I want to be clear about this.
00:20:47First, when it comes to cheering, I am, you know, fully giving myself over.
00:20:53I'm going to be a rational belief.
00:20:54I'm going to be balls to the wall.
00:20:55When it comes to analysis, though, Chief, I'm getting pretty concerned about this Paraguay game.
00:21:01About Paraguay?
00:21:02Yes.
00:21:02Okay.
00:21:03Yes.
00:21:03Now, tell me why you should not be.
00:21:05Because I'm just reading about the team, and I'm reading about La Garagrani and what it means to the country.
00:21:11And, you know, they haven't been here in 16 years.
00:21:13Last time they hear they go to the quarterfinal, they're finally back.
00:21:16Ever since their new coach arrived, only one defeat in 12 games.
00:21:20Yeah.
00:21:20And that's what stood out of me.
00:21:21One defeat in 12 games, and along the way, beating Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
00:21:26And yet, I'm supposed to believe that, like, we're the better team here.
00:21:31I think we got them.
00:21:32Okay.
00:21:32I think we got them.
00:21:34I think we got them.
00:21:35This is one of those things where it's like, I have – I'm forgetting the analysis.
00:21:40I was so worried about this team and this golden generation that felt like it was really falling flat.
00:21:46And then the two exhibition games against Jeremy and Senegal, I'm like, oh, like, we can actually –
00:21:50They were kind of sweet looking there.
00:21:51Yeah.
00:21:51That's true.
00:21:52So it's like, all right, maybe Pochettino, who's by far the best, most accomplished manager the United States has ever
00:21:58had.
00:21:58It feels like we don't have, like, the perfect players for this.
00:22:03So we're playing a system with a back three that's not ideal.
00:22:08But they're kind of making it work.
00:22:10And, like, the wingbacks are flying up.
00:22:12And it's just like, Pulisic's got a goal.
00:22:14I feel like we're going to have enough to get a W tonight.
00:22:17Dana, would you and Mikey like to share with the class?
00:22:20I was just laughing at Canada versus B.
00:22:23Can versus B.
00:22:25Can versus B.
00:22:26Can versus Cade's cousin on B.
00:22:28Yeah.
00:22:29Yeah.
00:22:29Oh, my God.
00:22:30That's all – that's the only soccer intel I got for you right now.
00:22:34Canada versus B.
00:22:36So you mentioned Pochettino.
00:22:37I was going to ask you, like – so this is his World Cup debut.
00:22:40This is a man whose man is Chelsea, PSG.
00:22:44Like –
00:22:44He's played in World Cups for Argentina.
00:22:47Yeah.
00:22:47Is this – like, does he have legacy on the line here?
00:22:50Like, how much do you think this means for his career?
00:22:52Or since we had to lure him here with so much money, is this kind of like an –
00:22:56I mean, he's already going to be gone.
00:22:57He's going to AC Milan, it sounds like, most likely.
00:22:59But this is one of those things where if he takes America on a run in a World Cup that's
00:23:05here,
00:23:05his name will be remembered forever.
00:23:08Yeah, that's a good point.
00:23:09So I don't know if it's – I think it's a legacy domestically.
00:23:11I think internationally he's more than fine.
00:23:15Yeah.
00:23:15So –
00:23:15So I have a question.
00:23:16Yeah.
00:23:17So what is his, like – what's his nationality?
00:23:22Argentinian.
00:23:22He's Argentinian.
00:23:23So how –
00:23:23Actually, a couple Argentinian coaches going toe-to-toe tonight.
00:23:26So coaches don't need to have –
00:23:28No.
00:23:28They can just buy them?
00:23:30They can just –
00:23:30Yeah.
00:23:31Come on over.
00:23:32Aaron Klinsman back in the day.
00:23:34Aaron Klinsman was Germany.
00:23:36Ancelotti, who's the head coach for Brazil, not Brazilian.
00:23:40So it's, like, a very common thing in soccer to have – you just get a coach.
00:23:44But players have to have some sort of –
00:23:47Mikey, I did just get an interesting stat from the control room, though.
00:23:51No coach has ever won coaching a country that's not the country of origin.
00:23:56Correct.
00:23:57So they've had success, but no one's ever managed to get all the way across the finish line.
00:24:02Interesting.
00:24:03That'd be actually interesting to look at all the favorites and whether or not –
00:24:06like, I know Duchamp, obviously.
00:24:08Yeah.
00:24:08He's –
00:24:08Okay, but –
00:24:10So like you said, in the friendlies here in the run-up, the form is pretty good.
00:24:14When we talk about styles, traditionally the U.S. is going to play great defense,
00:24:17great goalkeeping, they're going to counterattack.
00:24:19Which is interesting, that's Paraguay style.
00:24:21It's built into their culture from the ground up, representative of their kind of history even.
00:24:29And that was always what we latched onto, too.
00:24:31But now we're kind of framing ourselves as more of an offensive threat.
00:24:35Is this a bad matchup stylistically here for the U.S. to start?
00:24:40See, I think you play defensively and scrappy when you don't have the guys to go forward.
00:24:46Like, France and Argentina and Spain, like, they want to have the ball.
00:24:49They want to spray it around.
00:24:51They want to create chances because they have all the best players in the world.
00:24:57Paraguay plays this style because they don't have other options.
00:25:00And they know it.
00:25:01And they don't try to mess around.
00:25:02Like, they're very honest and straightforward about that.
00:25:05And that's what we used to do, too.
00:25:06And that's what, you know, the United States would always get in trouble.
00:25:09And they would play well and get, you know, they're in the game against Belgium.
00:25:13They're in the game against the Netherlands.
00:25:15They're competitive without really ever touching the ball because it's like, we'll just play defense.
00:25:21We'll hit them on the counterattack.
00:25:22Hope we get one.
00:25:23Maybe we get two.
00:25:24And then they would struggle against, like, these CONCACAF teams, you know, Panama, Costa Rica,
00:25:30where it's like, all right, now we're the better team and we're going to have the ball.
00:25:34But we can't break anybody down because we're not used to playing that way.
00:25:37So now that we have some, you know, guys like Weston McKinney plays for Juventus and Christian Pulisic,
00:25:42we have some genuine kind of star players playing the bigger leagues.
00:25:47Like, we do have the offensive talent to go forward.
00:25:50Jedi Robinson, who had that insane goal against Germany.
00:25:52Yeah, the screamer.
00:25:53Here it is.
00:25:53Yeah, great look at it here.
00:25:56It's amazing what a single goal can do for your confidence as a fan.
00:25:59This was so nasty.
00:26:02Wow.
00:26:04Let me tell you, I played goal.
00:26:05I did not think that was going to go in off of his foot.
00:26:07I played goal in the stream we had the other night.
00:26:09That's true.
00:26:10He had, like, 80 saves.
00:26:10There's nothing scarier than that thing coming at you.
00:26:12Tell us about it, T-Bob.
00:26:13Yeah.
00:26:14Took one right off the face.
00:26:15Yeah, yeah.
00:26:16Oh, yeah.
00:26:17I can finally chew again, though.
00:26:18I tweeted.
00:26:19I tweeted.
00:26:21I'm super happy I don't have to play tonight.
00:26:23Someone's bound to get hurt.
00:26:24Within an hour, I saw your face just blow.
00:26:27Yeah, bloody nose.
00:26:28Vicky Smokes went down.
00:26:30Smokes with a faking an ankle injury.
00:26:32Okay, but no, no, hold on.
00:26:33We're not here to talk about Barcelona.
00:26:34So, this game night, I want to get, we'll get into it more a bit later on.
00:26:38We'll get into the players that you should watch and everything else.
00:26:40And we got Bear coming on, talking best bets and stuff like that.
00:26:43But yesterday, day one of the World Cup, Mexico opened it up on home soil against South Africa.
00:26:50Pedestrian 2-0 win for Mexico.
00:26:52I was just really unimpressed with the form of South Africa.
00:26:55Like, kind of both teams.
00:26:56Yeah, I mean, Mexico left a lot to be desired as well.
00:26:59Especially if you had the shots on goal bet.
00:27:01But, you know, I mean, it is what it is.
00:27:04But just, and Landon Donovan talked about it, but like, the body language from South Africa the entire time, even
00:27:11in warm-ups.
00:27:12Just a team looking discombobulated here to start this thing.
00:27:16Which is kind of surprising, because they have a ton of guys on this team who all play for the
00:27:22same team professionally in South Africa.
00:27:24So, it's like, if anybody's going to have cohesion, they play together more than anybody.
00:27:31It's different levels, obviously.
00:27:32Yeah.
00:27:33But I would have expected them to look a little bit cleaner.
00:27:35But they were awful from the jump.
00:27:38And it is, again, this kind of brings me back to the Paraguay thing, where at some point, you know,
00:27:43you could have the system.
00:27:45You could have the familiarity, but you've got to just have talent.
00:27:48South Africa doesn't have it.
00:27:50Mexico.
00:27:51Had to feel good for Jimenez to get that goal.
00:27:53Jimenez, who fractured his skull five years ago in a game.
00:27:56That's why he wears that weird little headband.
00:27:57I thought it was an eye patch.
00:28:00Why is he wearing the eye patch on the side of his head?
00:28:03I know.
00:28:03I thought he maybe fell or something.
00:28:04But he was, like, knocked unconscious on the field.
00:28:06So, great moment for him.
00:28:07This is going to be his last World Cup.
00:28:09I think he's 34, 35 years old.
00:28:12So, he gets the goal that really puts the game away.
00:28:15Along with the red cards.
00:28:16And then, once South Africa went down to 10 men.
00:28:19The goal differential is such a big thing in this tournament.
00:28:23For tiebreakers, always.
00:28:25But now, with the third place thing, that you have to give yourself a chance.
00:28:28And if they were to lose 4-0, their tournament might be over.
00:28:33So, this one should have been a penalty.
00:28:35That should have been our third goal.
00:28:38But that, when they're going down to 10 men, they're like, alright, let's just try to lose by as few
00:28:44as possible.
00:28:44And it just took all the life out of the game.
00:28:47So, the red card actually hurt us.
00:28:48And the second one almost made it worse.
00:28:50So, it was an ugly game.
00:28:53Mexico got their big win.
00:28:56They've been in eight opening games for the World Cup.
00:28:59They've never won one.
00:29:00So, that was a weird stat to break yesterday.
00:29:04But good for Mexico as the host nation.
00:29:07Getting a big win in an ugly game.
00:29:09And now, the way it works is that it kind of feels like if you get a win in this
00:29:13group stage,
00:29:14you're probably going to end up getting to the knockout round.
00:29:17Yes, because of the expanded tournament.
00:29:19And to that point, for the U.S. tonight, as we had to break,
00:29:22and it's a bummer that we ran out of time here because we'll get back to it.
00:29:25But, again, the Czechia-Korea match, absolutely fantastic.
00:29:28A wonderful palate cleanser after this one.
00:29:31But the U.S., with a 97% chance of advancement if they are to win today.
00:29:37That's what's on the line, guys.
00:29:38We'll get the dub.
00:29:39That's what's on the line, guys.
00:29:40You're going to watch it in the balls.
00:29:41We've got more Wake Up Barstool coming up next.
00:29:43It's time for Wub at the Club.
00:29:58What's happening, y'all?
00:29:59Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:30:00It's the weekend.
00:30:00It's Friday.
00:30:02Europeans love clubs.
00:30:03Many of y'all are going to be ahead of the club this weekend.
00:30:05We're going to tell you who's in and out from this week of sports news.
00:30:08Chief, first off, Chief's never been here before, boys.
00:30:10Are we letting him in?
00:30:11Yeah, we're letting Chief in.
00:30:13Come on.
00:30:14Come on in the club.
00:30:15Breaking, we broke the seal.
00:30:17All right, Meg, who's on the guest list today?
00:30:19All right, first up, we're going to go with Nadia Ferreira, which is Paraguay Miss Universe.
00:30:23Yes.
00:30:24Oh.
00:30:24Um, yeah, I don't even have to say what she's in.
00:30:27No part.
00:30:28No.
00:30:28What?
00:30:29She's from Paraguay.
00:30:30No, guys.
00:30:31She can come in.
00:30:32She can come in.
00:30:32She's in.
00:30:33Guys, you're going to lay yourself prostrate before our enemies just because she's a little sexy?
00:30:38It's like Helena of Troy.
00:30:39Helena of Troy.
00:30:41How about we do this?
00:30:42Give her a green card.
00:30:43How about we keep her outside until after the game and then we let her in?
00:30:48She's bad, though.
00:30:48Okay.
00:30:49Okay.
00:30:49I agree with Meg.
00:30:50I'm voting out.
00:30:51I'm voting out until the game is over.
00:30:52Bro, we got to think of the ratio here.
00:30:53What do you say?
00:30:54You're in.
00:30:55Ratio.
00:30:55Where are you at, Chief?
00:30:56She can come in.
00:30:57What about you, Dana?
00:30:59Only because if my boy Kadek has a chance with her.
00:31:03Oh, my God.
00:31:04Okay.
00:31:04I guess she's going in.
00:31:05U.S. going to lose tonight.
00:31:06Thanks to these horny boys.
00:31:08Congrats, guys.
00:31:09What are you talking about?
00:31:09I hope she's mad.
00:31:11No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:31:13I'm married.
00:31:13I'm looking out for her.
00:31:14She's married to Mark Anthony.
00:31:16You're not getting late.
00:31:17This is about hospitality.
00:31:19You'd be surprised, dude.
00:31:20You'd be surprised.
00:31:21She's probably already in the country in the club, dude.
00:31:23All right.
00:31:23Next one.
00:31:24Up next, we have Serena Williams.
00:31:26She won the first match and returned to the pro tennis
00:31:28and had to withdraw due to after 19-year-old partner getting hurt.
00:31:33Yeah.
00:31:34Let her in.
00:31:35I mean, Serena's always in the club.
00:31:36I don't care about the story.
00:31:37Legacy play.
00:31:38Yeah, I don't care about the story, but she's always in the play.
00:31:42Ratio's looking better.
00:31:43All right.
00:31:44Up next, we have UFC Freedom 250.
00:31:47Are we going to let UFC in the club?
00:31:49I think it's going to be cool.
00:31:50We're going to be in the same city.
00:31:52Yeah.
00:31:52I got invited to it for the after parties.
00:31:54I don't know, dude.
00:31:55I don't think a UFC fight on the White House lawn is a good celebration of 250 years.
00:32:02I think it's lame as hell.
00:32:04I think it demeans the august nature of the country.
00:32:07What do y'all want to do?
00:32:08Teddy Roosevelt used to box people himself in the Oval Office.
00:32:12Actually, that is something I could give you a point.
00:32:14That's a pretty bad point.
00:32:15Pretty badass.
00:32:16I'm going to say no to it, only because we don't need any fights in the club.
00:32:20We have you guys, but you guys don't need to be bouncing.
00:32:25Dana, you're the deciding vote once again.
00:32:28And T-Bob's just going to be soft.
00:32:28You sold me, Megan.
00:32:29I don't want people fighting in the club.
00:32:31That's right.
00:32:31No fighting in the club.
00:32:33Get out of here.
00:32:34Get out of here.
00:32:34I'm lame and soft.
00:32:35All right.
00:32:36What do we got next?
00:32:36Up next, we have Anton Robinson, who's a U.S. soccer player.
00:32:40Anthony.
00:32:40Anthony.
00:32:41Oh, Anthony.
00:32:42Jedi Robinson.
00:32:43My fault.
00:32:44I said that before.
00:32:44He's in the club.
00:32:45Yeah, open it up.
00:32:47Open it up there, Mikey.
00:32:49Because after that goal, you're always in.
00:32:51Oh, he did the backflip?
00:32:52He was the one that did the game?
00:32:53Oh, yeah.
00:32:54He set the tone.
00:32:55Oh, yeah.
00:32:55Got a backflip off his face.
00:32:57Whoa.
00:32:58Whoa, how many times have you been letting him in?
00:32:59Get out of here.
00:33:00I'm trying to move him under these.
00:33:01It kind of looks like Albert Einstein.
00:33:02Okay, you like that?
00:33:03Okay, yeah, there we go.
00:33:04It kind of looks like Albert Einstein a little bit.
00:33:06All right, next up, Taylor Swift.
00:33:08Yes.
00:33:09Yeah.
00:33:09Yeah, always.
00:33:10Again.
00:33:11Yeah.
00:33:11I love to tell you.
00:33:12She's going to bring a lot of her hot friends.
00:33:13I'm too afraid to slander, Taylor.
00:33:15Yeah, I would agree.
00:33:15I don't want any of the Swifties after me, either.
00:33:17Again, shout out Mariska Hargitay.
00:33:20Or no, shout out Taylor Swift.
00:33:22Living every millennial's dream, getting to hang out with Mariska Hargitay.
00:33:25We all grew up watching SVU.
00:33:27What a moment the other night.
00:33:28Okay, who's next?
00:33:28He doesn't even know who that is.
00:33:29All right, up next.
00:33:30No idea.
00:33:31No idea.
00:33:31Sad.
00:33:32Sad.
00:33:32Hey, get an ounce of culture, Mikey.
00:33:35Chief said me neither.
00:33:36I never saw SVU.
00:33:38You know Mariska.
00:33:39How?
00:33:40I don't know who it is.
00:33:41It was on TV 24-7.
00:33:43It was on my style.
00:33:44When we were in college, any time you put on USA.
00:33:46Okay, sorry.
00:33:47Reel it in.
00:33:48Sorry.
00:33:49Up next, I'm going to go ahead and just say that he's getting in no matter what.
00:33:52I don't really care about y'all's opinion.
00:33:54We're going to go with Larry David.
00:33:55Need a funny guy.
00:33:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:33:57Larry David's coming in.
00:33:58I need to see him funny guy.
00:33:59He's going to hate it, but he'll be funny about it.
00:34:01I want to see him in the corner judging people and making faces.
00:34:06That's what I'm going to be looking for.
00:34:07But is the funnier Larry skit, him getting left outside of the club for some reason he can't get in?
00:34:15That's what he would want.
00:34:15That is what he would want.
00:34:16No, we're not letting him in.
00:34:18Where do you want to move him to?
00:34:18I want to put him down here.
00:34:20Okay.
00:34:21Little Larry.
00:34:22Tiny Larry.
00:34:22Little Larry.
00:34:23Little Larry.
00:34:23He's going to be there for a little bit, but he's so funny.
00:34:25His reaction to Josh Hart, the shot is unbelievable, if you haven't seen it.
00:34:32All right, who's up next?
00:34:33Up next, eggs, because of Wimby getting an egg thrown at him.
00:34:37I want to go ahead and say, look, I know that it's not a great look for the Knicks fans.
00:34:44However, eggs don't hurt.
00:34:46Bring them in.
00:34:46I think eggs are silly, and I think they're fun.
00:34:49It's the thought behind the egg.
00:34:51You don't throw eggs at people, especially NBA players.
00:34:54It doesn't hurt.
00:34:55Yeah, so if we're talking to eggs in general, of course, they're an internal club member.
00:34:59But we're talking about it in relation to Wimby.
00:35:02Also, are these people that stand there outside the hotel, are they security screened or anything?
00:35:07They're losers.
00:35:09Whoa, Dana.
00:35:10Oh, you think the people throwing eggs at NBA players are losers?
00:35:14Yeah, they're losers.
00:35:14They're losers.
00:35:16We hold these truths to be self-evident.
00:35:18Those are losers.
00:35:19There could be some lunatics out there.
00:35:21All right, up next on the docket, we got Mr. Busy.
00:35:25Brandon Busy.
00:35:26Buffy, he in the club.
00:35:27Yeah, bring that Buffy in the club.
00:35:29Bring that Buffy in here, baby.
00:35:31More Buffy.
00:35:32Buffy in the club.
00:35:33Always welcome in the club.
00:35:35Is he cross-eyed in this?
00:35:36I don't know.
00:35:37Maybe.
00:35:38He's so cross-eyed.
00:35:39He's focused.
00:35:40He's focused.
00:35:40He's got tunnel vision on the puck.
00:35:42Yeah.
00:35:42He's straight at his nose.
00:35:43Look at him.
00:35:44That's that mincey focus for you guys.
00:35:46And lastly, we have the Seahawks Super Bowl ring.
00:35:50Let's see them.
00:35:51Okay, here, I'll give you this.
00:35:52Look at these.
00:35:53Look at these, guys.
00:35:54What do you think about this?
00:35:55Yep.
00:35:55I mean, I'm in the club.
00:35:56I'm going to say no.
00:35:57It's just, I mean, it's nice, but like it's a Super Bowl ring.
00:36:00It's standard.
00:36:00Like, what's a, like, get it out.
00:36:03All champions get in.
00:36:05All champions get in.
00:36:05Yeah.
00:36:06Okay, that's, you know what, actually.
00:36:07Great point.
00:36:07Great point.
00:36:08In the club.
00:36:09And that's all the club.
00:36:10Well, well, well, well, well.
00:36:11What about our weekly guy now going to be on CBS, a former champion Seahawks himself.
00:36:16Russie Wilson, baby.
00:36:18No, he got his one week.
00:36:18Yeah, he got his one week.
00:36:20Yeah, he got his one week, dude.
00:36:21He got his one week, dude.
00:36:22Poor Russ.
00:36:23Look at that graphic.
00:36:24Poor Russ.
00:36:25Oh, man.
00:36:26I don't even want T-Bob.
00:36:27Russ with the A's.
00:36:28No, what do you, what do you, what do you want to do?
00:36:30Are you going to draw?
00:36:31Okay.
00:36:33All right, guys.
00:36:34There it is.
00:36:35That's who's in.
00:36:36That's who's out.
00:36:37You're out of the club.
00:36:37May all of you get in your club tonight when you try to go.
00:36:41Coming up next, we head to the money corner.
00:36:43Mega making money.
00:36:43Going to give you another one.
00:36:45More Wake Up Barstool on MS1.
00:37:02I want to revisit the World Cup real quick here as we exit outside of the money corner.
00:37:08We're talking U.S. men's national team.
00:37:10Names to know.
00:37:11I've been thinking a lot about Balogun.
00:37:13He's been playing great in the attack.
00:37:14He could have been on Team England.
00:37:16He chose the U.S.
00:37:19But in your estimation, what is, maybe like outside of Pulisic, who are the names that
00:37:24people should be locked into tonight on this U.S. men's national team?
00:37:27For goal scorers?
00:37:29Just in terms of, I think, in terms of importance to the result.
00:37:33Tyler Adams and Weston McKinney, they should be playing next to each other in the midfield.
00:37:37They're the engine of this team.
00:37:38They're going to make it go.
00:37:39They go box to box, so they have to be great defensively and hopefully crash the box to
00:37:44get a goal at the other end.
00:37:45And then it's the wingbacks.
00:37:47I mean, we're leaving out Pulisic and Balogun.
00:37:50Balogun might not even start.
00:37:51It might be Pepe.
00:37:52Oh, really?
00:37:53Pochettino.
00:37:54It doesn't matter.
00:37:55Those guys are basically even.
00:37:56But Destin Robinson on the outsides, they're going to also be responsible for creating
00:38:02a lot of offense, getting forward, whipping balls into the box.
00:38:05So those are probably the four names that if we win, those four are going to be creating
00:38:10a lot and having the ball a lot.
00:38:12Now, we talked earlier about the U.S.'s traditional identity.
00:38:14When we didn't have the ability to push, it was defense, but it was goalkeeping, right?
00:38:18We've always had great goalkeeping.
00:38:19A couple of Matts in play.
00:38:20Who gets to start tonight, do you think?
00:38:22Feels like it's going to be Matt Fries, Harvard guy, MLS guy.
00:38:25Matt Turner, I mean, since he went over to England, he played for my favorite team,
00:38:30Nottingham Forest.
00:38:31He's been a disaster basically ever since.
00:38:33So he lost his starting job for the United States.
00:38:35So I think it's going to be Matt Fries.
00:38:37But again, like you said, that's always been, we've had the only world-class position we've
00:38:42had for the last 30 years has been in net.
00:38:45This is the first World Cup, I guess last time too, where we don't have like a guy who
00:38:50can be a starter for one of these big clubs in Europe.
00:38:53So that's, it is a weak point, but I think we'll be okay.
00:38:55All right, now let's get outside of the U.S. as a team here, Chief.
00:38:59And I want to, in honor of the money quarter, we have our golden boot odds here.
00:39:04You got Mbappe up top because of course he is plus 600.
00:39:06Harry Kane's still there.
00:39:07Our guy Erlen Haaland coming in at plus 14.
00:39:11Who jumps out on, who would you play on this list?
00:39:14I mean, if you think Norway can make a run, it's Haaland.
00:39:18So, because he's going to score so many goals in the group stage.
00:39:21Like I think they play Iraq in the group.
00:39:23He might have four goals in that game.
00:39:26I really do like Harry Kane.
00:39:28It feels like Tommy Tuchel built the entire team around Harry Kane.
00:39:33He just scored like 50 goals this past season.
00:39:37So, I think Harry Kane at plus 700 is a good bet.
00:39:41I think Kylian Mbappe always.
00:39:42But they're going to be a little bit more balanced, I think, this time, France.
00:39:45Instead of just being just about him.
00:39:47We see Dembele's on there, too, for them.
00:39:49So, I'd probably say Haaland or Kane.
00:39:52Okay.
00:39:52And then, again, this is a name to watch here, guys.
00:39:55Okay, Mikey?
00:39:56Lamine Yamal.
00:39:57Yeah, we were talking about him yesterday.
00:39:58The prince that was promised.
00:40:00Babe.
00:40:00How many princes are promised?
00:40:01I was just going to ask that question.
00:40:03That's how prophecies work.
00:40:05That's how prophecies work.
00:40:06You have a lot of candidates.
00:40:07And one rise is the top.
00:40:08So many princes.
00:40:09That's how this is or it's hot.
00:40:10It's only two for this show.
00:40:11And you keep promising French princes.
00:40:14I'm saying he's Spanish.
00:40:17He's the chosen one.
00:40:18Well, you're weird, dude.
00:40:19Messi gave him a bath when he was six months old.
00:40:23You're obsessed with these minors, dude.
00:40:24Messi gave him a bath when he was six months old.
00:40:27You're obsessed with these guys that are, like, under 21 years old.
00:40:29Mexico had a guy who was 16.
00:40:31Mike, you like college football.
00:40:33Your entire life is based on a hard-bodied team.
00:40:36Have I ever promised the prince?
00:40:38No.
00:40:39No, you haven't.
00:40:39I could have promised Fernando Mendoza the prince.
00:40:41All right, we got the bear coming up next.
00:40:43Give me the best place for the World Cup.
00:40:45We love you.
00:40:45Thank you, Megan.
00:40:47Megan.
00:40:57The biggest World Cup ever is here.
00:40:59And the U.S. men's national team kick off their World Cup dreams tonight in L.A.
00:41:04Pre-game begins at 6 Eastern with the match at 9.
00:41:07And it's only on Fox.
00:41:09Fox.
00:41:10From Fox to Bear.
00:41:13Our guy, Chris Fleek, coming on the show once again.
00:41:16Best friend of Wake Up Barstool.
00:41:19Bear, what's happening, babe?
00:41:20How are we doing today?
00:41:21We're doing as good as someone who did not catch a single ticket on Belmont Day could be doing.
00:41:29But other than that, we're pretty good.
00:41:30Happy to be back to watch some soccer.
00:41:33Redemption.
00:41:34Redemption in the World Cup, Bear.
00:41:35Minor setback for a major comeback.
00:41:39There are about 18,000 different ways you could bet this tournament, right?
00:41:43Whether it's futures, results, props, everything's in play.
00:41:50What are your betting strategies?
00:41:51What are you most intrigued by?
00:41:53Where are you kind of looking to find an edge?
00:41:55I think the most intriguing thing is trying to kind of figure out who's going to wind up finishing first
00:42:02and second in each of the bracket, each of the group play matches, group play brackets, I should say.
00:42:08Just trying to figure out who's going to draw who on what side of the bracket.
00:42:12Like, there's a really good chance France and Germany, or France and Spain will be able to France and Germany,
00:42:17too.
00:42:17France, Germany, Spain will all be on the same side of the bracket.
00:42:21If you like a dark horse, people may like Uruguay, but there's a good chance they're going to draw Argentina
00:42:27in the round of 32.
00:42:28You can go through the bracket and figure it out based on how you think the matches are going to
00:42:32play out.
00:42:33So, all of that comes into play when you're looking at who's going to win, who may reach the quarters,
00:42:38golden boot.
00:42:39All of your bets kind of come off of your projection as to how these group play matches are going
00:42:45to turn out.
00:42:46How locked in are you generally to footy, Bear?
00:42:50Very.
00:42:51Very?
00:42:52Very, yeah.
00:42:53That was going to be my question.
00:42:54Bear, I know you like to bet everything.
00:42:57So, where would you put the World Cup?
00:42:59Where would you put footy as far as, like, your top favorite things to bet?
00:43:04I have always been, people always ask, like, what's my favorite thing or what would be my go-to bet?
00:43:10I've always told people that if I could make one bet, one bet only for the rest of my life,
00:43:17it would be under two and a half in a high-stakes soccer match.
00:43:21Because, you know, it's two teams that aren't going to want to make a mistake, and they're going to play
00:43:25defensively and not very aggressively.
00:43:28And that would be the way I would go.
00:43:31So, I am more of an under guy, which usually people who were watching soccer for the first time, that's
00:43:37not the way that people want to.
00:43:39They want to see goals.
00:43:39They want to see 2-1 like you did last night with South Korea and Czechia.
00:43:43They want to see that, but not opposed to the slop that South Africa put forth early in the afternoon
00:43:48against Mexico.
00:43:49But, yeah, I'm an under guy.
00:43:51I like looking at that.
00:43:53I like looking at team totals for overmatched teams and going under on that.
00:43:59I am, if I am someone who I can be miserable at times, so I like rooting against human achievement.
00:44:05So, if humans can do nothing and they can't score, I'm all in.
00:44:09Sign me up.
00:44:10You mentioned the golden boot in passing there, Bear, and it's an interesting list.
00:44:15And it's great because there's, like, pretty long odds on everybody.
00:44:19So, it feels like you can convince yourself there's a lot of value we had in a lot of different
00:44:23spots.
00:44:24Who jumps out to you as maybe a potential value play there?
00:44:28I have made three wagers in the golden boot market.
00:44:33For one of the guys, the price is no longer available.
00:44:37Well, Mikel Orzabal from Spain is someone who I bet back in January at, like, 36 to 1.
00:44:45And now you see his prices.
00:44:46He's very – yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
00:44:48So, we know what's going to happen with that.
00:44:5011 to 1 now.
00:44:51He's going to score ones, get subbed off with an ankle knock or something.
00:44:56He will be back.
00:44:56But two guys that aren't on this list that are a little bit further down, Nick Voltemata from Germany is
00:45:05someone that's kind of finally found his position.
00:45:08And he's been very good in the last few friendlies and the tune-ups for this match.
00:45:12You can probably get him somewhere around 40 to 1 as well.
00:45:16And then even further down is Jeremy Doku from the – not the – that's from Belgium.
00:45:22I'm going to yell that.
00:45:22I'm losing my European geography and order there on the west coast of Europe.
00:45:27But, yeah.
00:45:27But Jeremy Doku from Belgium is someone who played really well for Manchester City late in the year.
00:45:32He really picked up the scoring slack.
00:45:34And with Romelu Lukaku, he's the guy who's going to take penalties for Belgium.
00:45:39So, you always worry about that a little bit, that if you can get those penalty goals, penalty kicks, you
00:45:44can kind of tally add up to your total.
00:45:46But Doku is someone, I think, on the wing with Belgium's group.
00:45:50They play a bunch of teams.
00:45:52They should rack up a bunch of goals.
00:45:54They get a draw on that lower left side of the bracket if they win their group, that they have
00:45:57a good path to the quarter.
00:45:59So, you can be looking at six games from Doku.
00:46:01And if he can maybe get five goals, I think that would put him in the mix.
00:46:05So, 80 to 1 on him.
00:46:07Those are the three guys that I have for Golden Boot.
00:46:09So, Bear, I used to host a radio show with somebody you know very well, our guy Jacob Hester.
00:46:14Oh, yeah.
00:46:15And a degenerate gambler in his own right.
00:46:19Really?
00:46:19Yes.
00:46:20Oh, he's just moved up infinitely on the ladder of respect.
00:46:24Oh, well, you're going to love what I'm saying.
00:46:25I always loved him as a player, but now forget it.
00:46:28Now he's, we're going to have to connect now.
00:46:29So, you're going to love what I'm going to say next thing because his favorite thing to bet are just
00:46:34random soccer leagues from around the world.
00:46:36And he had this whole system where he'd, like, look at the table and he would bet it live, like,
00:46:40after the 75th minute.
00:46:41And if, like, the, if the favor was winning, whatever.
00:46:44So, he had a whole system play.
00:46:46And the reason I bring it up is there's a great chance that if you're going to be betting this
00:46:50tournament, you haven't seen a lot of these countries play.
00:46:52So, if you don't have, like, boots on the ground, like, eyeballs experience, do you have a system for kind
00:46:59of how to judge these things or any kind of guidelines or rules that you follow?
00:47:04I don't really have any guidelines.
00:47:07I hate betting overs.
00:47:09Usually, I don't like betting both teams to score either.
00:47:12However, I do like both teams to score in Morocco, Brazil.
00:47:17I like, usually for the most part, I think the first halves of matches tend to be a little bit
00:47:23more defensive because you've got teams that, if they've done their scouting, they've done their game plans.
00:47:29They just kind of, the first few minutes of the match, they're just kind of working themselves into play.
00:47:35And then maybe you're going to halftime nil-nil or one nil.
00:47:38Then the second half can tend to be a little bit more wide open.
00:47:41So, if you're looking for a first half under, no goal scorer first half, you have to also know style
00:47:52of play for a lot of these teams.
00:47:54But you need to know that Haiti is, I just wrote up my Haiti bet for FoxSports.com the other
00:48:00day.
00:48:00You have to know that they're basically a defending counter type team.
00:48:04So, like, under three and a half corner kicks for them against Scotland is something that I like.
00:48:09A team like Czechia that doesn't, they're really rough and physical and they're good in the air.
00:48:14Like, which of these teams that really rely on set pieces?
00:48:17So, yeah, it does take a lot of, I don't admit to knowing everything.
00:48:22And I don't certainly watch all these international leagues in Croatian football in Serbia and everything.
00:48:31But I do know, I pay attention, I read, I know certain players.
00:48:36And then once you preview these teams, you can get a little, you have half the battle or more than
00:48:42half the battle of just knowing where to go to get the information that you don't.
00:48:45That's a great insight, Bear.
00:48:46Mikey?
00:48:49Bear, do you have, like, a long shot group winner?
00:48:54Yes.
00:48:55He's bailed you out, dude.
00:48:57He's bailed you out.
00:48:58I was trying to throw to Mikey to mess with him and he's bailed you out with a long shot
00:49:02Cinderella winner.
00:49:03You're lucky.
00:49:04Sorry, Bear.
00:49:05No, you're good.
00:49:06See, it's always good to have something in the file, a crutch question.
00:49:11Yep.
00:49:11You can always fall back on.
00:49:13Like, remember, like, if you guys are the same probably as me, like, you'll meet someone, like, years ago when
00:49:20you'll forget them.
00:49:21And you always say, oh, good to see you.
00:49:24Not good to meet you.
00:49:26Yes, yes, yes, Bear.
00:49:27Good to see you.
00:49:27That way they can feel like, oh, wow, he remembers that I met them.
00:49:31But anyway, that's my, like, crutch introduction.
00:49:34Is that what you did to me, Bear?
00:49:35I thought we were friends.
00:49:37Yeah, that's exactly right.
00:49:39Good to see you.
00:49:41Good to see you.
00:49:42Yeah, but be careful.
00:49:43Well, don't tag it again on there.
00:49:44Because then what if you haven't met me?
00:49:45So, yes, you've got to be strict about it.
00:49:47Good to see you.
00:49:48I am.
00:49:49I just don't.
00:49:50It's good to make people feel good about themselves.
00:49:52But anyway, Mike, your long shot group winner.
00:49:55I mentioned Germany before, but they're in a group with the Ivory Coast.
00:50:00And here's a sentence that probably has never been muttered on Wake Up Barstool.
00:50:04The elephants are low-key loaded.
00:50:07Oh, thank you.
00:50:08Yeah, that's what the Ivory Coast.
00:50:09This is an elephant panel today, too.
00:50:13I was going to say, that's why I'm at home here and comfortable.
00:50:17But the Ivory Coast, they have a bunch of young attacking stars.
00:50:23Evan Gasson.
00:50:25Exactly.
00:50:26He might be winding up in Liverpool, which I hope he does.
00:50:29It's Liverpool or PSG.
00:50:30Evan Gasson, who's kind of been their first choice striker right now.
00:50:33Diallo, who plays in the Premier League.
00:50:36And then they have a mix of, like, youth and, like, veterans on the back line in midfield.
00:50:43Germany's going to be in a bunch of high-scoring matches.
00:50:46I actually made a bet.
00:50:48You're talking about, like, some of these obscure bets that you can make.
00:50:50I bet this group to be the highest-scoring group because you're basically just going to look at these teams.
00:50:56Germany's going to score goals.
00:50:58Ecuador won't really allow.
00:50:59But Ivory Coast and Curacao is just going to be, like, open for business.
00:51:03That's going to be the team that allows all the goals there.
00:51:06But the Ivory Coast, if the elements are, if it's warmer, obviously playing in AFCON, that will help them.
00:51:13They're used to playing in warmer weather.
00:51:14I am not sold that Germany are head and shoulders above everybody in this group.
00:51:19Ivory Coast, you could probably get around 9 or 10 to 1 to win this group.
00:51:24So that would be a long-shot type play if you're looking for something that probably had a lot of
00:51:29people.
00:51:30Morocco is a team in Brazil's group, which is a possibility for a price play.
00:51:34But very few people, I think, out there are touting the Ivory Coast to win that group.
00:51:39Yeah, it feels like they'd be a fun team to cheer for, too.
00:51:41You mentioned kind of the youth and the excitement there.
00:51:43Great uniforms.
00:51:44Yes.
00:51:45Yeah.
00:51:45Yeah.
00:51:46Really good.
00:51:46Okay.
00:51:47So, Bear, I'm going to pull a weird kind of whiplashy turn here, so I apologize in advance.
00:51:52Okay.
00:51:53But we've been talking a lot of gambling, and as always.
00:51:56I know where we're going.
00:51:57Yes.
00:51:57I'm ready for it.
00:51:58Yes, yes, yes.
00:51:59As always, we should gamble responsibly, right?
00:52:01And, well, it's been in the news.
00:52:03With the Brendan Soresby saga, Texas Tech yesterday releasing a 22-minute video, which is, you know,
00:52:09me thinks the lady doth protest too much.
00:52:11Sometimes it's better to just stay quiet.
00:52:15I'm sorry that happened.
00:52:16No, I'm happy for you.
00:52:17You think I'm watching that?
00:52:18Yeah, yeah, exactly.
00:52:19No, exactly.
00:52:19I ain't reading all that.
00:52:21So, Bear, but what's your thoughts on the overall Soresby situation, the injunction granted
00:52:26by the judge, and kind of what it means?
00:52:31It's ridiculous.
00:52:33I just don't know how a rogue local judge in Lubbock, Texas can overrule, like, what is
00:52:40clear.
00:52:40I mean, this is not a gray area.
00:52:42This is black and white.
00:52:43Like, the number one taboo, not only as a college athlete to have you bet, and you bet
00:52:48on your sport.
00:52:50You bet on your games involving your team.
00:52:52Like, I don't know how this is possible.
00:52:55I have a great solution, though.
00:52:57I think all of the teams that play Texas Tech this year, especially your Northwest, Nichols,
00:53:05Abilene, Tech State, the teams that have, like, no money at all, they should just, you
00:53:11know what, we're going to go into this game, we're going to bet on Texas Tech, and they're
00:53:16just going to go in there and lay down.
00:53:20Oh, we don't have any money for our players, so it's okay to bet on these games.
00:53:23So, we said, yeah, you know what?
00:53:25Let our players bet on this game, and we'll bet Texas Tech to win by 90, and then they
00:53:29can line their pockets by betting.
00:53:32Clearly, it's okay to do it now, right?
00:53:33So, that's clearly my tongue-in-cheek response.
00:53:37It's really, really sad, and it's really a shame.
00:53:40I don't know who is advising Texas Tech, but everything, there was a map, and there was
00:53:47a path, like, what you should not do in response.
00:53:52Like, that's the PR plan, like, they've done right now.
00:53:55If you need a 22-minute video to explain why Brandon Sorsby should be playing, he probably
00:54:01shouldn't be playing.
00:54:02Yeah, yeah.
00:54:05It's, and I get people, hey, Bear, T-Bob, Megan, you guys like to bet?
00:54:10How can you be against this?
00:54:12We're not anymore, well, you were or not anymore, though.
00:54:17We're not playing quarterback at a top 10 team in the country.
00:54:20Yeah.
00:54:23It's mine, and then the Texas Tech response, like, oh, they're afraid.
00:54:27No, it's not that you're afraid.
00:54:30Here's the ultimate irony in all of this.
00:54:33Texas Tech ceiling with or without Brandon Sorsby is the exact same thing.
00:54:3912-1, Big 12 champs, and maybe you win a playoff game.
00:54:43So why are you going, why are you dying on this hill?
00:54:49There's a kid from Western Carolina, Teron Jenkins, I think is his name.
00:54:55He was at UNC.
00:54:56He could be a really good insurance package right now.
00:55:00Will Hammond, I think, will be back at some point.
00:55:03He's someone that Texas Tech can count on.
00:55:05Like, I don't get why you're putting your reputation and all of this on the line for this kid.
00:55:12Yeah, I mean, I get going to bat for your guy, but again, as you said, 22 minutes.
00:55:17But also, you can go, like, the thing is, you can go to bat for him, though, and still be
00:55:23like, but we understand why he's not playing.
00:55:27You still want to support him.
00:55:29Addiction's a very real thing.
00:55:30I do believe in the disease model of addiction and getting support to overcome it.
00:55:35But yeah, there are consequences as well.
00:55:36My mom's still in GA.
00:55:37It's okay.
00:55:38And look, I want to be clear.
00:55:40Bear, I'm a bit biased here because we love Coach McGuire.
00:55:44He's a great supporter.
00:55:45Yes.
00:55:46And I love what Texas Tech has done in terms of being like, no, we can pay players.
00:55:49We're going to do it.
00:55:50We're going to invest in these guys.
00:55:51But we're just maybe a bit at odds with this issue.
00:55:54Bear, cannot thank you enough for the great insight.
00:55:57As always, we love you.
00:55:58We miss you.
00:55:58We will talk to you again soon.
00:56:01Well, you guys know where I am.
00:56:02I'm always here.
00:56:03Let's do it again throughout the tournament.
00:56:05We have golf next week, too.
00:56:06We got some U.S. Opens.
00:56:08Hey, send him my way, Bear.
00:56:09Send him my way.
00:56:10I will.
00:56:11Have a great weekend, everyone.
00:56:12Bear's fan with.
00:56:13His ability to.
00:56:15He's got it all.
00:56:16To maintain all this information is so impressive.
00:56:19He's just the best.
00:56:20He is the best.
00:56:21I love him.
00:56:21You know what else is a lot of fun?
00:56:23Smash or pass.
00:56:24Yeah.
00:56:24So we're doing World Cup edition of Smash or Pass coming up next here on Wake Up Barstool.
00:56:35We're time to welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:56:37It's time to play a little Smash or Pass.
00:56:39World Cup edition.
00:56:41We're going to be putting some countries' cuisines against one another, and we'll choose
00:56:44who wins.
00:56:45All right.
00:56:45First up, Canada versus Bosnia-Herzegovina.
00:56:50Never mind.
00:56:51What's up, babe?
00:56:51Argentina.
00:56:53Argentina for sure.
00:56:54First, Algeria.
00:56:56We got Argentinian steak versus couscous.
00:56:59Argentina.
00:56:59It's a tough matchup for Algeria here.
00:57:02Yeah.
00:57:02What is that?
00:57:02They're getting smoked.
00:57:03It's a little chimichurri.
00:57:05I mean...
00:57:05It doesn't look good.
00:57:06It's delicious.
00:57:07You don't like chimichurri?
00:57:08Whatever that is.
00:57:09Green?
00:57:09You would like...
00:57:10On the right.
00:57:12Yeah.
00:57:12No.
00:57:13Argentina in a blow-up.
00:57:14Algeria...
00:57:14No, but like couscous is good, but like you can't...
00:57:16I mean...
00:57:17You're going up against Argentinian steak.
00:57:19I would love to eat both, but I'm taking Argentina.
00:57:22I will say Algeria.
00:57:23I think I would rather...
00:57:25It looks like a beef stew, and I think I'd rather a different country's beef stew than
00:57:29with the couscous.
00:57:30Okay.
00:57:31Okay.
00:57:31What do we got next here, guys?
00:57:33I'm not going to call it anymore.
00:57:35Brazil versus Morocco.
00:57:37Can we explain what these are?
00:57:38Feijuara versus tagine.
00:57:41I don't know.
00:57:42Is that quinoa in Morocco?
00:57:43I think I'm going to call Morocco.
00:57:44So, the Brazilian dish here is a rich, slow-cooked stew made with black beans and a variety of
00:57:52pork and beef cuts.
00:57:53So, we're talking like sausage, bacon, ribs.
00:57:56Yep.
00:57:57Yeah.
00:57:58Okay.
00:57:58Now, this Moroccan dish is named after an iconic clear ceramic pot that's cooked in,
00:58:03but it's chicken, lamb, beef with like lemons, olives, honey, dried fruits, aromatic
00:58:07spices, something like cumin, saffron, cinnamon.
00:58:09Again, Moroccan dish sounds incredible, but the meat mixture coming out of South.
00:58:14I mean, look, I mean, South American meat is going to be hard to beat.
00:58:18I'm going to go with Morocco.
00:58:19I will say, aesthetically, Morocco's looks nicer, but Brazil sounds better for me.
00:58:25I mean, again, we're talking sausage, bacon, and ribs.
00:58:29Brazil.
00:58:30With beans and rice.
00:58:31Brazil.
00:58:32I love beans and rice.
00:58:32Listen, man, I'm healthy.
00:58:34I do love beans and rice, too.
00:58:35Come on.
00:58:36All right, what do we got next here, guys?
00:58:38Come on.
00:58:39Oh, Putin.
00:58:40This is Canada versus beans.
00:58:41Easy, my gosh.
00:58:43Putin, Putin, Putin.
00:58:44I love Putin, Putin, Putin.
00:58:45So, anything soaked in gravy, give it to me.
00:58:48Tell me about this.
00:58:49Hold on now.
00:58:50Yeah.
00:58:50Tell me about the Bosnia Herzegovina sausages there.
00:58:52Let's be clear.
00:58:53Poutine's whatever here.
00:58:55This savapi.
00:58:57Grilled, hand-rolled sausages made with beef, lamb, a mix of both the flavored garlic and
00:59:02mild spices.
00:59:03I'm going beer.
00:59:04Hey.
00:59:05Beer.
00:59:06Beer.
00:59:06Beer.
00:59:07Beer.
00:59:08Look at me, boys.
00:59:09Canada.
00:59:09Look at me.
00:59:10I thought you were healthy.
00:59:12Nope.
00:59:12Leave that.
00:59:14Yeah, one.
00:59:15Look at me.
00:59:17Shut up.
00:59:19Shut up.
00:59:20Kane.
00:59:20Kane, shut up.
00:59:24I love poutine so much.
00:59:25My mouth's watering.
00:59:26Shout out to old me.
00:59:27So good.
00:59:27All right, next up, we got Colombia versus Uzbekistan.
00:59:30Oh, is that a Ticharon?
00:59:31Let me dive in the notes here.
00:59:34Where was this?
00:59:35There's a garlic on the right.
00:59:36It does look like roasted.
00:59:37Oh, I got it.
00:59:38Okay, Uzbekistan, plov, hearty one-pot rice pilaf, lamb or beef with julienned carrots,
00:59:44onion, spices, a layer of long grain rice.
00:59:46The Columbia dish, bendella paisa, it's the unofficial national dish.
00:59:51It's a massive platter with red beans, rice, fried pork, ground beef, plantain, avocado,
00:59:56fried egg.
00:59:57Give me Colombia.
00:59:59Is that a cheese or wrong?
00:59:59I'm going Colombia as well.
01:00:00Is that a cheese or wrong?
01:00:01I think I'm going Uzbekistan.
01:00:02I am too.
01:00:04Plov.
01:00:05Colombia.
01:00:06They both look really interesting.
01:00:07Lay hotter chicks, too.
01:00:08These are both my exact style of plate.
01:00:11I love, uh, what do I love, Dana?
01:00:15Alformation?
01:00:15Yep, there we go.
01:00:16Alformation, dude.
01:00:18It's a great word.
01:00:19I like, I want to, I want to take that Colombian plate and I just want to mix it all
01:00:22up, dude,
01:00:23and it's just a pile of slop, dude.
01:00:26Dana doesn't like gooey eggs.
01:00:27Is that a blood sausage there?
01:00:29I love a good blood sausage, dude.
01:00:31Underrated.
01:00:33Dipping the bread egg.
01:00:34That's what my Cajun grandma used to call those.
01:00:36Ew.
01:00:36Uh, okay, in Germany, we have the schnitzel versus kashiena.
01:00:41Schnitzel.
01:00:41The schnitzels.
01:00:42The schnitzels are so good.
01:00:44What is, what is this burger?
01:00:45So, kashiena is stuffed cheese.
01:00:47Heartier rich casserole made from hollowed out, melt-in-your-mouth bowl of gouda or Edam cheese.
01:00:53Stuffed with spice meat, vegetables, olive raisins, capers, spices.
01:00:56Oh, man.
01:00:57Dude, give me, give me curacao.
01:01:00Curacao.
01:01:00Give me curacao.
01:01:01If you watch the Barstool Cup on YouTube, I just got kicked out of a soccer match for eating schnitzel
01:01:07on the, on the pitch.
01:01:09Yeah, it's crazy.
01:01:09Don't do that if you're a soccer player.
01:01:11Yeah.
01:01:12But schnitzel is the answer.
01:01:13Dude, stuffed cheese.
01:01:13The cheese looks really good, though.
01:01:15I'm not going to lie.
01:01:16But schnitzel, cheese, guys, stuffed cheese with, like, some of the sausage.
01:01:20What are we talking about?
01:01:21I think they lost me off the olives inside, though.
01:01:23I do love olives, but not in the cheese.
01:01:25Oh, I think around the olives.
01:01:26All right, what do we got next?
01:01:28We got the Dutch versus the Japanese.
01:01:31Struples, struples, struples, struples, struples, struples.
01:01:35Struples are the best.
01:01:37They are literally so good.
01:01:39I just like saying struple.
01:01:40And Chaps, did you see Chaps had one, like, in Amsterdam?
01:01:43He got, like, one made while he was there.
01:01:45It looks so good.
01:01:46A fresh struple.
01:01:47Oh, my God.
01:01:47It goes great in coffee, too.
01:01:49Oh, yeah.
01:01:49Like, a little one for you to dip.
01:01:51Oh, yeah.
01:01:51I love struples.
01:01:52Matcha's good, too, but.
01:01:53Nah, no.
01:01:54Struples rock.
01:01:55I almost pulled a Dana with the struples.
01:01:58I think production did Japan dirty with giving them matcha ice cream as their food.
01:02:03That's true.
01:02:03We were looking for two desserts, but you're right.
01:02:06Like, Japanese cuisine's normally winning 99% of matchups.
01:02:10Yeah, for sure.
01:02:10They got a bad draw here.
01:02:12All right, the best one yet, guys.
01:02:15The United States versus Paraguay.
01:02:18Burger and fries versus Sopa Paraguay.
01:02:21USA.
01:02:22USA.
01:02:22USA.
01:02:24What even is that Paraguay corn?
01:02:25It's a solid soup.
01:02:27It's corn with cheese, onions.
01:02:30Get Paraguay out of here.
01:02:30Served with barbecue meats.
01:02:32No.
01:02:32Get them out of here.
01:02:33It looks like a stuffed polenta.
01:02:35No, it's like a cornbread.
01:02:37Okay, let's be clear.
01:02:38Well, I don't know what a polenta is.
01:02:39It's like a grit cake.
01:02:41Okay.
01:02:42I was just going to say, like, let's not sleep on Paraguay here.
01:02:45This is basically a cornbread stuffed with, like, meats and cheese and onions.
01:02:48I love cornbread.
01:02:49I love meats and cheese and onions.
01:02:50But that's...
01:02:51America.
01:02:52You can build an empire on that burger.
01:02:53It is.
01:02:54That is our entire country distilled to a single image.
01:02:56You could have gotten a better looking burger.
01:02:58I'm not going to nitpick too much here.
01:03:00You could have gotten one off Dan's, like, Instagram or Facebook.
01:03:03Well, I would say the problem is that looks like a big cat burger.
01:03:08Like, we're looking for a step up.
01:03:11Either way.
01:03:11Nothing wrong with a pub burger, though.
01:03:13Shut up, Mikey.
01:03:14Shut up.
01:03:17Mute.
01:03:17Mute Canix Mike, guys.
01:03:19Jordan, what are we doing?
01:03:21Mute Canix Mike.
01:03:23Yeah, burger and fries are always in.
01:03:25All right, coming up next, Coach John Calipari.
01:03:27Joining the show.
01:03:28Don't go anywhere.
01:03:29Don't go anywhere.
01:03:31Don't go anywhere.
01:03:32Don't go anywhere.
01:03:37Another day of Wake Up Barstool and another Pinch Myself legendary guest.
01:03:43This time, it's Arkansas Head Coach John Calipari.
01:03:46I mean, the absolute.
01:03:48Yeah, again, we don't even need the intro.
01:03:51A man whose name precedes him, Coach Cal.
01:03:53Cal, what's up, man?
01:03:54Thank you so much for waking up with us today.
01:03:56How are we feeling?
01:03:57I'm doing good, guys.
01:03:58I'm doing good.
01:03:59That was, I had an unbelievable weekend.
01:04:03And so, I'm still kind of pumped up about it.
01:04:06Yeah, so let's talk MSG.
01:04:08And there's a million different angles that we could ask you about.
01:04:10I mean, you got former players on the court in front of you.
01:04:13You got former players in the stands with you.
01:04:16Celebrities everywhere.
01:04:17But as a man who, again, whose name precedes him, who knows this game inside out, has spent a lifetime
01:04:24in this game, give us some context.
01:04:26Like, where does that environment rank?
01:04:28You're talking Adam Sandberg.
01:04:30Is that who you're talking about right there?
01:04:32I'm just talking, like, in your experience, as a man who's experienced so much, does this still stand out as,
01:04:39like, a fever dream?
01:04:40Like, what was that?
01:04:41Yeah, there's, there's, I was in one game as a coach.
01:04:47UMass, we're number one in the country.
01:04:49Go to West Virginia.
01:04:50We're down 20 or 18 with four minutes to go.
01:04:54We come back and win that game as a coach.
01:04:58But as a fan and being in that building here, let me tell you what amazed me.
01:05:02They never booed New York.
01:05:05Yeah.
01:05:06They were down 30.
01:05:08They never booed that.
01:05:11Now, they killed the officials.
01:05:13You know, they killed, they were going nuts about that.
01:05:16And, and, but they stayed into it.
01:05:18How about this one?
01:05:20Their coaching staff and their players to adjust from what happened.
01:05:25Were you guys watching the game?
01:05:27Or do you guys just do the show?
01:05:28Oh, yeah.
01:05:28Yes, no.
01:05:28So, we watched the game.
01:05:29But I, I would say, like, I'm watching as a layman.
01:05:32You know, I'm just kind of taking it in.
01:05:34So, so, the Knicks must play through Carl Henry or Carl, Carl Towns, Carl Henry.
01:05:43How about this?
01:05:43That's a name for my Kansas days.
01:05:47But Carl Towns, you have to play through him.
01:05:52And they foul, they give him two fouls.
01:05:55Yeah.
01:05:55And now they have to totally adjust what they planned on, how they were going to play.
01:06:01And the Knicks are down 20, 25.
01:06:03They were down 30.
01:06:06And then they got back into the rhythm of how they played, made the game of it.
01:06:11The fans never left them.
01:06:13They were there the whole time.
01:06:15And, and that, that three by Carl and another one by Jalen, the three he made.
01:06:22And then the layup, all of a sudden it's anybody's ball game.
01:06:25And it was unbelievable to watch.
01:06:28Unbelievable.
01:06:30I can't even explain what happened.
01:06:33How they, I don't know how San Antonio lost.
01:06:36And I don't know how the Knicks won.
01:06:38And I was sitting there.
01:06:40Well, and so let's explore your coaching hat for a second then, Coach.
01:06:45Like, if you're the Spurs, you're up 20, nine minutes to go.
01:06:51And hindsight 2020 here.
01:06:52But like, how would you have handled it?
01:06:54What do you view as the key errors that they made that kind of opened the door for New York?
01:07:00Let me just say this.
01:07:02The job that Mitch has done with that team, they're crazy to say one moment in time,
01:07:08they have built an unbelievable team.
01:07:12I mean, Ronnie Harper's son is way better.
01:07:15When you see him in person, way better than I thought.
01:07:19Steve's cast way better than I thought.
01:07:22These guys are, they're like middle linebackers.
01:07:25They're huge.
01:07:25Yeah, yeah.
01:07:26And so, but they're young.
01:07:28So what I would say is when you're coaching or playing, it's the life you chose.
01:07:36So whatever you do, if you lose, was wrong.
01:07:43And if you win was right.
01:07:45So I'm going to give you two situations.
01:07:48De'Aaron Fox is playing with a high ankle sprain, which everybody's saying, why did he?
01:07:54Normally, he would have dumped that ball.
01:07:57So why didn't he dribble it out?
01:07:59Well, if he makes the layup and they win, he's a hero.
01:08:01Thank God he didn't dribble it out.
01:08:04He probably got fouled.
01:08:05Let me just say that.
01:08:07If you watch this, he probably got fouled.
01:08:09But he dribbles it out.
01:08:11Maybe he misses a free throw.
01:08:13Something happens.
01:08:14But let me just say this.
01:08:16Just watch.
01:08:17Now, maybe that's a foul.
01:08:20Okay?
01:08:20Maybe.
01:08:21They don't call it because the officials want the players to win the game.
01:08:25Yeah.
01:08:25So if he makes that, he's a hero.
01:08:28If not, they're saying all these decisions.
01:08:31Let me give you on Mitch.
01:08:33Mitch has got this team, a young team, playing loose, which is incredible in that environment.
01:08:41Now, the last play he ran on the baseline out of battle.
01:08:47That was perfect.
01:08:48It was perfect.
01:08:50Yeah.
01:08:50I watched it.
01:08:51I went, oh, my God.
01:08:52He's got a layup.
01:08:55And Carl Anthony Towns put his little finger on it.
01:09:00His little finger.
01:09:02Game of inches, coach.
01:09:04And it changed the whole.
01:09:06You're like, what just happened?
01:09:08And now all that happens are those kind of plays.
01:09:12Here's what I'm going to tell the fans of both.
01:09:15How about we all just enjoy this?
01:09:18This shit is crazy.
01:09:20Excuse my goodness.
01:09:22But I was, they have a picture of me.
01:09:26My staff went crazy.
01:09:27You look like you're, you're, well, I was standing there going like, what just happened?
01:09:34Yeah.
01:09:34This is nuts.
01:09:36And I'm sitting next to Adam Sandler and his wife, Jackie, who, by the way, would never go on this
01:09:43show.
01:09:43But they are unbelievable.
01:09:48They're regular.
01:09:50Adam engaged with the fans, the people behind him.
01:09:53He took pictures.
01:09:54He grabbed cameras.
01:09:55This guy's a regular guy.
01:09:57And I am sending him gear.
01:10:00Yes.
01:10:01Sorry, Rico.
01:10:02No gear for Bosco.
01:10:03Sandman gets the gear.
01:10:05Bosco, you got nothing.
01:10:08He's going to hate that.
01:10:10You made a powerful enemy.
01:10:13There's video of Adam Sandler playing basketball.
01:10:17He's pretty good.
01:10:18Yeah.
01:10:18He's not bad.
01:10:19He's dropped passes.
01:10:20I was laughing with him.
01:10:21But we all just were like, what?
01:10:25This, it's crazy.
01:10:27And when Marcus Camby and I, I coached him, some of you older people, I coached him at UMass.
01:10:32We came up to each other.
01:10:34I said, what happened?
01:10:34He looks at me and I look at him and he said, we almost say it together.
01:10:38West Virginia was our game at West Virginia.
01:10:42He was on that team.
01:10:43So it's been amazing.
01:10:46And the only thing I would tell you guys, if I'm in that situation now, you understand the Spurs because
01:10:55it could easily be three to one for the Spurs.
01:11:00They could have won two games in New York, which means Mitch goes down as one of the great coaches
01:11:07of all time.
01:11:08Now you lose a game.
01:11:10It's like the guy, what is going on?
01:11:11But here's what I would say.
01:11:14I've been in this boat before.
01:11:17How about Alvarado, by the way?
01:11:19I was going to say, you got to love what Jose did, dude.
01:11:21I grabbed him after the game and said, man, I am so happy for you.
01:11:26And what about Mike leaving him in the game?
01:11:29Yeah.
01:11:30Wouldn't you be scared to death and say, I got to take him out.
01:11:33He can't keep doing this.
01:11:34There's no way.
01:11:35May two, geez, get him out.
01:11:36Hurry up.
01:11:37He's good.
01:11:38He left him in the game, which is incredible that he did it.
01:11:42But if my team loses a couple games, and I've done this many times, not many times because we don't
01:11:48lose many,
01:11:49but I've done this a few times where you lose a couple in a row, and you've got a big
01:11:55game coming up.
01:11:57And the couple you lose, they're close games, and you easily could have won them.
01:12:02I tell the team, let's have a mindset that we won those two games.
01:12:06How would we feel going into this game?
01:12:08How would we sleep the night before if we had won both these games?
01:12:12What would our mindset be?
01:12:14Are we like, we're winning this game?
01:12:17Versus you lose a couple, it rattles you.
01:12:19And so my thing would be, hey, man, we won two in New York.
01:12:24Now we've got a home game.
01:12:26I'm going to be honest.
01:12:27I sat there when it was 30 and 26 and 24 and said, oh, my God, they could lose down
01:12:34in San Antonio because of this.
01:12:37They just lost two at home.
01:12:38Now it's 3-2, and it may go to game seven.
01:12:42Where's the game played?
01:12:43In San Antonio.
01:12:45But the Knicks, let me, again, I keep going because sometimes I'll forget, so I got to say stuff when
01:12:52I'm thinking of it.
01:12:54But here, they were two teams built different ways.
01:12:59No one's talking about it.
01:13:03San Antonio did this through the draft and did a great job through the draft.
01:13:09Trading for De'Aaron Fox, who's an all-star.
01:13:12Stop it.
01:13:13He's playing with a high ankle sprain.
01:13:15Stop it.
01:13:16Stop it.
01:13:17He made huge shots in that Knick game that I sat there and watched, and plus he came up and
01:13:24hugged me prior to the game.
01:13:25But I'm telling you that don't do this, but they build it different.
01:13:31The Knicks have three, and I called Jay Wright, three of his players that won two national titles, stayed in
01:13:38school the entire time, and have been in the league eight years.
01:13:42You know how much of a veteran team they have?
01:13:44Yeah.
01:13:45Cat is the only one that went to school one year, but he's been in the league now, been in
01:13:52all-star games, been, you know, and now OG was in school a bunch of years.
01:13:56They have more of a veteran team.
01:14:00So when everybody says, well, down the stretch, New York plays better, what do you expect?
01:14:07What do you think's going to happen?
01:14:08That's a great point.
01:14:09And it's not like coaching stuff.
01:14:12It's they're young, and they're experiencing things for the first time.
01:14:16I've coached freshman teams.
01:14:19Yeah.
01:14:19You don't know what they're going to do.
01:14:21They haven't experienced some of this stuff.
01:14:24Coach, that was really what stuck out to me was the just difference in experience there in the second half.
01:14:31And you have these guys on San Antonio, you know, 22 years old, and it's clear that they haven't really
01:14:37been here before.
01:14:38So I just actually want to switch gears a little bit here and see just from your perspective, you know,
01:14:44us, we're watching on TV.
01:14:45We can't really see just exactly how physical and fast the game is when we're watching on the couch.
01:14:51Can you explain from just sitting courtside or not even courtside, but just right there, you can see the seven
01:14:57-foot-four freak and all these guys playing so fast.
01:15:00What is it like through your eyeballs to see such an intense, fast game in the NBA Finals?
01:15:06Well, I'm yelling to the Knicks to go because when they play fast, they're going to score 130.
01:15:14Yeah.
01:15:14And when they bring it up slower, unless they play through Carl, it's not the same game for them.
01:15:21But here's what I will tell you.
01:15:23And I was talking, I was down in Rock Hill yesterday watching young kids, and they had some of the
01:15:28former NBA officials, Bennett and Mark, and the guys are all down there, Joey.
01:15:35And I said, the game was so physical.
01:15:38I was at San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and that game, they grabbed Shea.
01:15:45Like, he couldn't get up.
01:15:46He had to kick the guy's chest with his foot to get open because they have two arms around them.
01:15:53If you drive and think you're going to shoot a layup and you're going to try to flop, they call
01:15:59them flops.
01:16:00You better get fouled and try to make it.
01:16:03The game is so physical.
01:16:05And then the Knicks, again, are older.
01:16:09They're just grabbing and pushing.
01:16:11How about a ball screen is not you have to come to a stop and let the guy run into
01:16:18you.
01:16:19You're nuts.
01:16:20They are going up.
01:16:22It's like a lineman in football.
01:16:25Boom.
01:16:26Just hit them.
01:16:27I mean, that's what the game is.
01:16:29And you're like, okay, now can I say this to you guys?
01:16:32Yeah.
01:16:33I'm kind of enjoying the game that way.
01:16:35Oh, I'm loving it.
01:16:36I'm enjoying it.
01:16:37I agree.
01:16:38Let the boys play.
01:16:39I'm saying in college, let them play more.
01:16:42Yeah.
01:16:43Yeah.
01:16:43You ready for this one?
01:16:46Replays.
01:16:47I want more replays where you can challenge fouls.
01:16:53As long as they're quick.
01:16:54As long as they're quick.
01:16:55I agree.
01:16:56They're not quick in college.
01:16:57That drives me nuts.
01:16:58Sometimes in college, the guy will say, you know, I'm challenging and I'll say, give it
01:17:03to him.
01:17:04I'm saying give it to him.
01:17:06I'm fouled.
01:17:06I'm going to ruin the momentum.
01:17:08Come on.
01:17:08You know, so I, but I wish we could challenge some because they're big and you know what?
01:17:16Officials want to get it right.
01:17:18Yeah.
01:17:19Yeah.
01:17:19They want to get it right.
01:17:20They're going to, they're trying to stay out of the way of these.
01:17:23I like the fact that they will call a play late.
01:17:26If a guy shoots a layup and he gets whacked pretty good and makes it, they'll let it go.
01:17:32If he misses it, then they blow the whistle and say, well, you know, you caused him the
01:17:37mission.
01:17:38I'm going to give him the fouls.
01:17:39But it's physical and getting open is hard.
01:17:44Yep.
01:17:44Think about that.
01:17:47Coach, I have a question for you.
01:17:48Well, a statement and then a question.
01:17:50So your guy, Kat, you know, he's taken more three-point shots in this NBA finals than he
01:17:57did his entire 39 games in college.
01:18:01You know, eight threes.
01:18:03Why didn't we let him shoot, coach?
01:18:05Yeah, coach.
01:18:05Why didn't we let him put it up?
01:18:07All right.
01:18:07Not to question you.
01:18:08I mean, you are the coach.
01:18:09Well, and then you got Devin Booker saying, I never started him.
01:18:14And so I hold all these kids back.
01:18:17But here's what I would say to you.
01:18:20I went to watch him play in high school.
01:18:22I was recruiting this kid.
01:18:24He was 16 years old.
01:18:27He shot more threes than two guards on his team that were division one players.
01:18:34And I said, you're not doing that with me.
01:18:37You want to be the number one pick.
01:18:39You have to be the best rebounder outside your reach.
01:18:45And you will make free throws.
01:18:48You're an 85% free throw shooter.
01:18:51They'll know you can shoot.
01:18:52Let them deal with it.
01:18:53You're going to be great in pick and roll defense.
01:18:56You're going to be able to guard guards.
01:18:58And he said to me, do you really think I could be the number one pick?
01:19:01I said, yes, I do.
01:19:02And there were guys that were always from, this kid's going to be the number one.
01:19:07The guy's not even in the league right now.
01:19:09This Carl, one, is really coachable.
01:19:12And, yes, I did not let him shoot threes.
01:19:14And the eight he took, I said, you better make them.
01:19:18If you shoot one, you better make it.
01:19:20Well, hey.
01:19:21Two for eight.
01:19:22I was going to say, the step back the other night was unreal, dude.
01:19:28And at that time.
01:19:30I know.
01:19:31Think about it.
01:19:31Yeah, textually, absolutely insane.
01:19:33And then Jalen's three.
01:19:35I mean, those two threes were like, what is going on?
01:19:38I'm sitting there like, this is nuts.
01:19:40And then, how about this?
01:19:41Yeah.
01:19:42When he missed two free throws.
01:19:44I know.
01:19:45And I'm not saying it's on him because when he walked by me, I look at Adam and I go,
01:19:51oh, my gosh.
01:19:52And he made some ridiculous plays normal humans cannot make.
01:19:57Oh, yeah.
01:19:57And I sat there and watched.
01:19:59I'm like, what in the world?
01:20:01But that's why I'm saying, please, fans, just enjoy.
01:20:05Don't be mad at a coach, mad at a player.
01:20:08You're getting to see something that's going to be from 50 years from now, this series is going to be
01:20:15talked about.
01:20:16That's right.
01:20:16Enjoy it.
01:20:18The play where Wimby tips it to himself is just something like, you can't do it.
01:20:23You should not be physically capable of doing that on an NBA court.
01:20:27Coach, you tweeted about this, right?
01:20:30The atmosphere and you're hanging out with Adam Sandler like he said, he's your guy.
01:20:33You were too nervous.
01:20:35Chris Brock.
01:20:35Can I name some names?
01:20:36Yeah.
01:20:37Drop him.
01:20:38Drop all the names.
01:20:38Drop all the names.
01:20:40I went down and saw Patrick and Larry and Marcus and I hugged.
01:20:44I saw Latrell.
01:20:46You see all those guys sitting there.
01:20:49And the last time I was at the game, the Knicks put me with them, which I was kind of
01:20:54embarrassed because it's all Knicks and me.
01:20:56I didn't play on the Knicks.
01:20:57I couldn't, but I didn't play on the Knicks.
01:21:00And so then I'm sitting where I am, but it was crazy to see.
01:21:07John McEnroe came up to me as he walked in and I said, hi, I'm John Calipari.
01:21:11He said, I know who you are, coach.
01:21:12And I was like, you know, so it was kind of neat.
01:21:16Wait, but you were too nervous to say what's up to T-Swift.
01:21:19I was scared to death.
01:21:21I was scared to death.
01:21:22Look, we were in the dugout where everybody that's sitting on that road comes down and they have food and
01:21:29drink and all that at halftime.
01:21:31So I'm there with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld.
01:21:38He was, these people, I could touch everybody.
01:21:40And I see you're coming over to the table.
01:21:45I'm like, oh man.
01:21:48And I, but here's what I figured out.
01:21:51She had no idea who I was.
01:21:53None.
01:21:54She would have looked at me like, is he the weatherman?
01:21:57I don't have any idea who this guy is.
01:22:00So now I could, she's six feet from me.
01:22:04And she's talking and, and, and then I, I'm staring.
01:22:08So then I started looking at my phone, nothing on it, but I didn't want to act like I'm just
01:22:12staring.
01:22:13You know what I mean?
01:22:14Yeah.
01:22:15And then I'm thinking, I got to go say hello to her.
01:22:18And I'm going to say, no, I talked myself out of it.
01:22:21I'm too nervous.
01:22:23I'm not doing it.
01:22:24I didn't ask anybody to introduce me.
01:22:26She didn't know who I was.
01:22:28And, and if Travis was there, maybe I had a chance if he was there.
01:22:34Cause I think maybe he would go.
01:22:36Yeah.
01:22:36Kelsey knows coach Cal a thousand percent.
01:22:38For sure.
01:22:39A thousand percent.
01:22:39I got to ask one question before we get out of here.
01:22:42This is a, it's a long running thing in my friend group, coach Cal.
01:22:46I, I went to Stonehill college.
01:22:47I graduated in 2015.
01:22:49And at one point or another, you were either around in Brockton or Easton or something for a camp.
01:22:56And I tweeted out, I was just, I was the basketball manager at this D2 school at the time.
01:23:01And I tweeted out saying, coach Cal, come to Stonehill college and drink beers with me.
01:23:07The coach pulled me aside and said, you can't be tweeting that coach is saying, saying that type of stuff.
01:23:12I got in trouble.
01:23:13I need to know, would you have drank beers with me if you saw it?
01:23:18No.
01:23:24Hold on now.
01:23:25Before we go off, I got to tell you, I got three guys in the draft.
01:23:30Okay.
01:23:32Darius Acuff is ridiculous.
01:23:35Ridiculous.
01:23:36Okay.
01:23:37I'm saying he's top four, maybe even lower in a better position.
01:23:43If people pass on him and he gets to six or seven, remember me saying they will regret it because
01:23:53I coached this kid.
01:23:54I coached some pretty good players.
01:23:55Yeah.
01:23:56You got Malik Thomas, who's a bucket, a bucket, hard work.
01:24:01He's going to go in the first round.
01:24:03Now, Trevin Brazil, you know what's going to get Trevin Brazil in the first round?
01:24:07The Knicks.
01:24:08You know why?
01:24:09What?
01:24:09Because they took older college players who could help them.
01:24:15That is Trevin Brazil.
01:24:17And I'm looking at it saying like, you know what?
01:24:21We got a chance to have three in the first round, which would make me really happy.
01:24:26Acuff is unbelievable.
01:24:28I think whoever gets him is going to get an absolute star.
01:24:31Yeah.
01:24:31All right, so I got to give you one.
01:24:33There's only been four players in the history of college basketball, 18 points, 10 assists, no turnovers, zero turnovers.
01:24:45One, R.J. Barrett did it.
01:24:48Pretty good player.
01:24:49Yeah, pretty good player.
01:24:51Darius Acuff did it.
01:24:53Pretty good player.
01:24:55Third player.
01:24:55You ready?
01:24:57Yeah.
01:24:58Darius Acuff did it.
01:25:02The fourth player, though.
01:25:05Darius Acuff?
01:25:06Yeah.
01:25:08There we go.
01:25:09How do you pass on this kid?
01:25:11But you know what?
01:25:12I've seen crazier things.
01:25:15Coach Cal, I mean, it goes without saying, but I cannot thank you enough, man.
01:25:19Just incredible insight.
01:25:22So generous with your time.
01:25:23So sincere in your answers.
01:25:25Woo pig.
01:25:25Oh, we didn't mention Kelton Johnson.
01:25:28I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
01:25:31And he's too many players.
01:25:34He's part in Carl Towns.
01:25:35Sue, you're too good of a coach.
01:25:37Yeah, you have too many players, coach.
01:25:38You have too many players.
01:25:39There's too many guys.
01:25:40We should have won a mortgage.
01:25:43Thank you for all the money you did win me, though.
01:25:45I appreciate that, coach.
01:25:47Coach Cal, thank you, man.
01:25:49Thanks, guys.
01:25:50See you, coach.
01:25:51God, what a legend, dude.
01:25:52The best.
01:25:53The best.
01:25:53I love it.
01:25:54Great energy.
01:25:54I mean, well, that's the thing.
01:25:55And that's how you, I mean, that's how you become the recruiter that Cal is.
01:25:59That's how you just create stars.
01:26:01It's like, before I go, my guys are awesome.
01:26:03Yeah, yeah.
01:26:05Shout out, Coach Cal.
01:26:06We love you, man.
01:26:07Wrapping up the show next.
01:26:08I think he would have.
01:26:08I'll drink beers with you.
01:26:09Yeah, all right.
01:26:10He said, uh, no.
01:26:13He didn't say.
01:26:18Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:26:19Shout out, Coach Cal.
01:26:21Absolute legend.
01:26:22Let's close out a little World Cup here.
01:26:24And if you are European, you're watching this show, you're South American from anywhere in the world,
01:26:29I want a tight shot on Kadic here.
01:26:31I want you to focus on this face right here, guys.
01:26:34Can I get a tight shot on Mikey?
01:26:36Full screen.
01:26:37Because this is what you have to contend with here, folks, okay?
01:26:41This is it right here.
01:26:43This is America.
01:26:44And this is what's coming for your ass tonight, Pargwai.
01:26:47Get ready.
01:26:48I wish this fucking...
01:26:49The mountain.
01:26:51Anything to say?
01:26:53Chief, how do you feel about the environment tonight?
01:26:54Yeah, okay.
01:26:55Wait.
01:26:55I'm a little...
01:26:56USA!
01:26:57Love it.
01:26:58USA!
01:26:59USA!
01:27:01USA!
01:27:02USA!
01:27:03USA!
01:27:05We need 50,000 Mike Kadics at the game tonight.
01:27:08Yeah, we do.
01:27:09It's true.
01:27:10It's true.
01:27:10I am a little bit worried about that.
01:27:12I feel like we don't have the best fans, especially when we're in L.A.
01:27:16So hopefully we come out in force.
01:27:18Like I said, 50,000 Mike Kadics.
01:27:20We can conquer Rome with that.
01:27:21But we need the fan support on home soil.
01:27:24It is, you know, this is not a good thing.
01:27:27But it is a tough trip for Paraguay to get all the way there.
01:27:30It's a long trip.
01:27:31So we'll see.
01:27:33We'll see their send-off.
01:27:35Yeah.
01:27:35Yes.
01:27:36No, I mean, again, that's why I'm a little freaked out.
01:27:38Yeah.
01:27:39This means everything to them.
01:27:42We are a bit of the evil empire, Johnny Calino.
01:27:46It's fun, but it's not like life or death.
01:27:49We'll see.
01:27:49I think we're in like a – it never happens for America where we're kind of an underdog
01:27:53for the tournament in general.
01:27:54So I think if we start fast, we'll be fine, but we've got to start fast.
01:27:59I think if the pressure mounts when you're not getting results, it could turn ugly quick.
01:28:03Balls on net.
01:28:04Here we go, guys.
01:28:05Balls on net.
01:28:06All right.
01:28:06Hey, massive thank you to K&A, Fierce, Chief, Megan, making money.
01:28:10Hey, coming up next, guys, you're not going to want to miss it.
01:28:14These guys spend endless hours in the lab.
01:28:17The most – I mean, unbelievable amounts of research, the most well-researched show on television.
01:28:22First things first.
01:28:23Coming up next, shout-out Wiggy Barstow back on Monday.
01:28:25Post show coming up next.
01:28:27We love you guys.
01:28:30We love you guys.
01:28:32We love you guys.
01:28:33We love you guys.
01:28:34We love you guys.
01:28:35We love you guys.
01:28:36We love you guys.
01:28:36We love you guys.
