00:00:02Hello there, and welcome in to this Halloween edition of Wake Up Barstool, the Green Bay Packers.
00:00:10Another great win for the Pack in Lambeau. Jordan Love, Top 10.
00:00:15Plus, speaking of the NFC North, the Chicago Bears with as blockbuster of a trade as you will ever see
00:00:22as they move for Jeffrey Simmons going for it all.
00:00:26Wisconsin versus Iowa, we got a little film breakdown in the Crawler Room, and we got the man, the myth,
00:00:32the most charismatic individual we've ever had on this show.
00:00:36That's Arkansas Head Coach John Calipari. It all starts now on FS1.
00:01:02Greetings and welcome back to this Halloween edition of Wake Up Barstool.
00:01:07Hope you're having an excellent day.
00:01:09T-Bob Hebert, Michael Kadick, what are you dressed as?
00:01:13Traffic cone.
00:01:14Dana Beers, exactly. Yeah, you used to play back in the day.
00:01:18Dana Beers, what are you dressed as?
00:01:20I am a fish.
00:01:21Stand up and show the people your tail.
00:01:23Yeah, it works a little better. Yeah, see, look at that.
00:01:27That actually looks really good.
00:01:29It does. It looks great walking around.
00:01:31It's not made for sitting.
00:01:33Chief, I'm trying to put my thumb on what you are. I can't quite. What are you?
00:01:37I believe this is a hot dog.
00:01:39It is a hot dog.
00:01:40Yes.
00:01:40That's right.
00:01:41Chief, as a Chicago guy, how do you take your Chicago dogs?
00:01:47I mean, I would do the full thing.
00:01:49Yeah.
00:01:50If I'm getting a Chicago dog, I do the tomato, the pickle, the onion, the whole thing.
00:01:54But this, just with a little bit of mustard, nothing wrong with that either.
00:01:58Hell yeah.
00:01:59And then in the corner, Megan making money.
00:02:00Meg, what's up? How are we doing today?
00:02:02What's up?
00:02:03Looking very... Oh, nice.
00:02:05Yeah, I don't know if I'm allowed to say character, but yes, obviously.
00:02:08All right, let's get into last night.
00:02:10I hope everybody's having a great day.
00:02:12Packers last night beat the Panthers, and I got to correct the record a little bit here
00:02:18because yesterday we had a debate about Jordan Love.
00:02:21Where does he rank?
00:02:22And I think we were maybe a bit dismissive.
00:02:25We were saying he's top 10, maybe fringe top 10.
00:02:28However, after watching last night, look, Jordan Love has to do everything for this Packers team.
00:02:36It shouldn't work as well as it does, and he's making it work.
00:02:39They can't run the ball.
00:02:39They drop a ton of passes, and yet he's still going off.
00:02:42They're now 4-1 in their last five.
00:02:45Chief, you're working on your mic.
00:02:47Mikey, what did you see out of Love last night?
00:02:50Like you said, a lot of the receivers were dropping touchdown passes,
00:02:54dropping and leaving a lot of plays out on the field.
00:02:56I thought the O-line protected them fairly well last night against Carolina's pass rush.
00:03:02They couldn't run the ball, so they had to kind of take off the top a little bit and air
00:03:07it out,
00:03:07and I think Jordan Love did a great job.
00:03:09He's very accurate, and like I said, he leaves some points off the board there.
00:03:15Chief, how worried are you now that you have a Packers team that, again, Love is playing excellent,
00:03:19the defense is really solid, really good,
00:03:23and we have the impending return of Micah Parsons.
00:03:27Yeah, honestly, the whole division is scary.
00:03:29So the Vikings might be the worst team in the division, and they're 6-0.
00:03:33So, yeah, I'm always going to have a little bit of residual fear,
00:03:37the bugaboo, the Packers, the boogeyman up north.
00:03:40But, look, I like our team, and I like our team better this week
00:03:44than I did last week after the big trade.
00:03:46So I think, you know, we're going to try to ruin their Christmas Day
00:03:50and maybe see them again in the playoffs.
00:03:52Yeah, I can't wait.
00:03:52We'll get to the Simmons trade here in a minute and what it means for Chicago.
00:03:57How about Christian Watson, man?
00:03:59Breaks his ribs, goes to the hospital, returns to play.
00:04:02He walks out of the shotgun of the ambulance.
00:04:04That was awesome.
00:04:07It's like an old wrestling bet.
00:04:08Yeah, we were watching in the cave, and someone said,
00:04:10this is literally a WWE bet here.
00:04:12And then he just runs right on the field, gets a standing ovation,
00:04:15catches a couple balls, and wins the game.
00:04:17You look at that right there, you can see what the difference of the game was.
00:04:20Six sacks for the Packers.
00:04:22That is unsustainable if you're trying to win a football game,
00:04:24if you're the Panthers.
00:04:26They're absolute drive killers.
00:04:29Yeah, that Green Bay defense, again, been very good,
00:04:32and one of the reasons why they're winning these games.
00:04:36One note of last night, Josh Jacobs.
00:04:41What are we doing, dude?
00:04:42Suspend him again.
00:04:43The handcuff celebration?
00:04:46Could you have a more tone-deaf celebration?
00:04:49My man, you got arrested for domestic violence.
00:04:52Good lord.
00:04:52And then he rocks the handcuff celly, Dana, in the end zone.
00:04:55Good lord, man.
00:04:56That is some dumb stuff.
00:04:58Had a little awareness one time.
00:04:59I want to fight back on something you said, Chief, a little bit.
00:05:02What did I say?
00:05:03This has nothing to do with the game last night,
00:05:04but we'll get to it, I'm sure, at some point.
00:05:08We got to give the Vikings some respect at some point.
00:05:11They are not, I don't think they're the worst team in that division.
00:05:13Oh, the whole, they said they might be.
00:05:15The Packers, the Packers look fantastic.
00:05:17I think they've got the worst quarterback.
00:05:19I agree, that offense is pretty trash,
00:05:22but this Packers defense is kind of like going toe-to-toe
00:05:28with the best teams in the division right now.
00:05:30Wait, but what are you saying, though?
00:05:32What are you saying?
00:05:32You said the Vikings.
00:05:33You said the Vikings aren't the worst,
00:05:35but now you're hyping up the Packers.
00:05:37No, I'm saying these two teams, I think, are the top two teams.
00:05:40I think the odds are kind of nuts.
00:05:42Oh, you're saying Vikings, Packers, over Bears and Lions.
00:05:45I might say that, yes.
00:05:46Oh, that's crazy.
00:05:47Why is that crazy?
00:05:48Did you see the Packers' defense last night?
00:05:49They don't have Micah Parsons,
00:05:51and their pass rush looks top-notch.
00:05:54I think there is a world where all four teams in the NFC North
00:05:59make the playoffs.
00:06:00I agree.
00:06:00I think that's the way it's sitting right now,
00:06:02but when you look at who the Vikings have played,
00:06:05it's something like the worst quarterbacks in the league,
00:06:08and that's kind of why they're 6-0.
00:06:10I'd like to see they have a very tough stretch of games coming up.
00:06:14If they get to a spot where they're 10-3 or something like that
00:06:19over their next seven games, then, yeah, all the respect.
00:06:22But if you're going to look at that group and be like,
00:06:25who are you the most confident in,
00:06:27I think you kind of have to scratch off the Vikings
00:06:29just because it's a Kyler Murray offense.
00:06:32I was going to say, look at the division top to bottom.
00:06:35What do we think the absolute weakest units in the North are?
00:06:38Definitely Vikings offense.
00:06:39Lions defense.
00:06:40Lions defense is right there with them,
00:06:42although they've been a bit better,
00:06:43just like the Vikings offense has been a bit better.
00:06:46Yeah.
00:06:47They're all awesome.
00:06:48They're all really good, scary teams.
00:06:50I wish we were in the NFC South.
00:06:52I keep hearing everyone say they're the worst 6-0 team ever.
00:06:56At what point are they maybe just good?
00:06:58No, it's the old cliche where it's like you are what your record is.
00:07:01Right.
00:07:02And so at this point, yeah, they're a good team.
00:07:05Brian Flores, all his defenses, they're terrifying.
00:07:08The way they blitz, the exotic packages.
00:07:11It's not a team I'm looking forward to playing.
00:07:13And look, the Bears have had two division games.
00:07:15They're 0-2.
00:07:16But I trust Ben Johnson.
00:07:18I trust Caleb Williams.
00:07:20And I like, you know, obviously the big trade.
00:07:23But that stretch right there, Lions, Bills, Packers, 49ers, Falcons.
00:07:28I guess we'll see it.
00:07:28We're going to learn.
00:07:29We'll know what they are after that 5-0 stretch.
00:07:31We're going to learn today.
00:07:32I don't know.
00:07:33I think the Packers being plus 960 to win that division really surprises me.
00:07:38Just because I think the Packers and the Vikings, to me, I don't know what it is.
00:07:43I think I'm most confident in those two.
00:07:44The Packers have three losses.
00:07:47So it's like at some point, that's kind of math to catch.
00:07:49If you're going to catch the Vikings, you're two and a half games back.
00:07:54And it's because the Packers have that glaring weakness.
00:07:57They cannot run the ball.
00:07:58And, again, it's a massive credit to Love that he's managed to overcome it so many times.
00:08:02But they're asking him to do everything.
00:08:04The margin of error is nonexistent without the ability to consistently run.
00:08:08I guess I'm looking more from what my eyeball test tells me.
00:08:13That's fair.
00:08:14And especially after last night.
00:08:15They looked fantastic last night.
00:08:17They looked dominant.
00:08:18They dominated the Bears with backup a few weeks ago.
00:08:20So, yeah, it's a crazy division.
00:08:22And coming into the year, one of the weaker units we would have thought on paper
00:08:26would have been the Bears' defense.
00:08:28However, statistically, they've been excellent this year.
00:08:30I think six in the NFL in scoring defense.
00:08:32But, but, but, a lot of that because the offense really controls the ball.
00:08:36Like, they're dictating the flow of the game.
00:08:38But this Bears' defense now, Chief, after yesterday trading two first-round picks
00:08:42in the fourth round to get Jeffrey Simmons, the top interior defensive tackle
00:08:46in the NFL from Tennessee.
00:08:48How are Bears fans feeling today?
00:08:50I think we're feeling pretty good.
00:08:52We had to have a powwow in the office yesterday to get everybody on board
00:08:55because it is a steep price.
00:08:57But he's the, he's a piece that they were missing, the interior line.
00:09:01He had 11 sacks last year.
00:09:02He's already got four this year.
00:09:04That's a guy who's going to make Montez Sweat better.
00:09:06He's going to make Austin Booker better.
00:09:08I think they're going to be able to get home with four more often.
00:09:11That's really been a problem.
00:09:12They've been great in third and long because Dennis Allen will send Kyler Gordon.
00:09:16He'll send Cam Lewis these crazy kind of Brian Flores-esque blitz packages.
00:09:21And they've been getting home and creating chaos.
00:09:24Now if you can have where it's like we're not bringing seven, we're bringing five.
00:09:29And we're going to be able to drop and help kind of our secondary,
00:09:31which has turned into a weakness.
00:09:33I think it's a huge move for the Bears.
00:09:36And look at it, they know they got Caleb Williams on his rookie deal.
00:09:39They feel good about their team.
00:09:41They're deciding this is the year that we're really going to go for it.
00:09:44I like the boldness of it.
00:09:47Chief, even like what you were saying, you're making other people better around you.
00:09:50Even if you rush four, you're making it easier for everyone else to get one-on-ones
00:09:56when you have to double-team Jeffrey Simmons.
00:09:59It's like the same thing with when Aaron Donald was wrecking everything.
00:10:03You have to literally game plan around a guy like Aaron Donald,
00:10:07a guy like Jeffrey Simmons to make everyone around him have those one-on-one battles
00:10:13that they could win.
00:10:13It just makes the whole defense better.
00:10:16The analogy that I keep going back to is like throwing a giant rock into the lake
00:10:21and then watching the ripple effect because everything's going to radiate out of the center.
00:10:26Because of his interior defensive tackle, he's going to shore you up against the run.
00:10:31As Mikey said, he's going to command additional resources from the offense and double teams,
00:10:35but also he's going to push the pocket right into the quarterback's lap.
00:10:38What does that mean?
00:10:38You can't step up.
00:10:39What does that mean?
00:10:40Sweat and the boys on the edge start to get home more.
00:10:42Okay, the pass rush gets better.
00:10:44What does that do?
00:10:45The coverage gets easier because the quarterbacks are sped up, creates more turnovers.
00:10:49He's the number one defensive tackle in the league.
00:10:51And yes, one of our guys here, Maserati Mike, made a good point.
00:10:54For two firsts and a fourth, you get anybody in the league.
00:10:58Okay?
00:10:58You get, there's nobody, maybe like the elite quarter, there's nobody that doesn't get.
00:11:03So you, the question, because a lot of people are talking about the Colts, going for Saskarno,
00:11:07it's been a disaster.
00:11:08But you, but it all comes down to, do you believe that the Bears' success is fluky or sustainable?
00:11:14And if you look at that Colts thing last year, eight and one, Daniel Jones going off,
00:11:18there were a lot of indicators that it could be fluky.
00:11:21With the Bears, we thought maybe fluky coming into the year, I feel they've disproved that.
00:11:27I feel the success is real, and I trust in Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson.
00:11:32And if that is accepted as right, then that price tag, Jeffrey Simmons represents way more
00:11:38than two late first round picks that you would get.
00:11:41And I agree.
00:11:42And the Bears have done this.
00:11:44This is the third time they've traded two number ones in my life.
00:11:46And the first one was Cutler, mixed reviews.
00:11:49Then they go out and get Khalil Mack, and it was great for one season, but it was kind
00:11:52of fluky because you had Mitch Trubisky, and he was never going to be like that top guy.
00:11:58Caleb is.
00:11:59So it's like if you have the offense and they're able to control the clock, and then you take
00:12:03a guy who can make a defense who's, it's been pretty good, but it feels a little smoke
00:12:07and mirrors at times.
00:12:09If he can make them an actual good top 12 type of defense to go with that offense, that's
00:12:16not a fluke.
00:12:17That's a scary thing for the rest of the league.
00:12:19Yeah.
00:12:19And again, there's been later first round picks, and it's the old, you know, family guy.
00:12:25You want the boat or the mystery box?
00:12:27The mystery box would mean anything.
00:12:28You want the boat?
00:12:28Just go get the boat.
00:12:29Just go get Jeffrey Simmons.
00:12:31That's what you did.
00:12:32Let's see if it pays dividends.
00:12:33Coming up next.
00:12:34They also effectively did it for Justin Fields, too.
00:12:36So, the Bears, we've been down this road.
00:12:39It's different this time.
00:12:41I do believe it's different, though.
00:12:42I do, too.
00:12:43But that is how you have to frame this in your mind as to whether or not you agree.
00:12:46Coming up next, time to film a little Wisconsin-Iowa Big Ten football.
00:12:54That's right, guys.
00:12:55It's time for whether or not.
00:12:57And again, with whether or not our producer, Reese, our fearless producer, fighting through
00:13:01surgery, still making picks.
00:13:03What did he do last week?
00:13:04The Reese.
00:13:053-0.
00:13:06Let's go, Reese.
00:13:07Okay, we had an 0-3 week.
00:13:09Lose by an average of 20.
00:13:10All I ask is that the praise be as loud as the criticism.
00:13:15That's right.
00:13:15Because right now, are we up to overall record, guys?
00:13:1915-7?
00:13:21It's 18-7.
00:13:2217-7.
00:13:22Oh.
00:13:2317-7 for whether or not this football season.
00:13:26I apologize to Reese.
00:13:27I lost faith.
00:13:28I jumped off last week.
00:13:29See?
00:13:29I did, too.
00:13:30Yeah.
00:13:30Wow.
00:13:31Wow.
00:13:32I'm sorry, Reese.
00:13:32Oh, ye of little faith.
00:13:34I thought it was going to go back down, and Reese proved us wrong.
00:13:37Legend.
00:13:38Well, you know what?
00:13:39Stay there, guys.
00:13:40These are not for you.
00:13:41These are for the real weather heads out there.
00:13:45Whatever.
00:13:45The wheel level heads?
00:13:46The wheel weather heads.
00:13:47The wheel weather heads.
00:13:49The wheel weather heads.
00:13:50All right.
00:13:50Washington at Nebraska.
00:13:53It's going to be 7 p.m. Central.
00:13:55It's still pretty, I don't know about Nebraska, it's been pretty warm here, right?
00:13:58It's been beautiful.
00:13:59It's been stunning.
00:14:00Cold's coming in.
00:14:01What does that mean?
00:14:02Wind.
00:14:03Okay?
00:14:03We're talking low 50s here, sustained winds of 8 to 13 miles an hour, gusting up to 25
00:14:11with a 60% chance of rain.
00:14:15That's Big Ten football under 50 and a half, Washington and Nebraska.
00:14:20Hey, T-Bob.
00:14:20Yo.
00:14:21Winter is coming.
00:14:22That's right.
00:14:23I wish I could do his voice.
00:14:24Don't remind me.
00:14:25Winter is coming.
00:14:26How do you do it?
00:14:27Which one?
00:14:28Game of Thrones?
00:14:29No, yeah.
00:14:30Just give me Game of Thrones.
00:14:30Just like a general Game of Thrones, um, Dana Beers, a man defined by his love of delicious
00:14:39hoppy beverages, a man who is willing to do the hard work, including drinking beers,
00:14:48taking his shirt off, and yes, drinking more beers.
00:14:53That's Dana Beers.
00:14:54There you go.
00:14:55I'll take my shirt off.
00:14:56That's my bad.
00:14:57I got confused.
00:14:58I was panicking.
00:14:59Uh, Colts at Jaguars, 78 degrees, sustained wind, same thing, gusty, 70% chance of rain.
00:15:07We're going under 46 and a half.
00:15:11Also, it's the Colts.
00:15:12Under.
00:15:13The Colts are awful.
00:15:14They're in a fire sale.
00:15:15The Jaguars defense incredible.
00:15:17I don't, I don't, I don't see the Jags just, uh, uh, going too crazy scoring wise.
00:15:24We're playing the under again there.
00:15:25And then it's a third under here, guys, Patriots at Dolphins.
00:15:29New England always seems to struggle in Miami for whatever reason, uh, 80% chance of steady
00:15:36rain, 25 mile an hour wind gusts, a near carbon copy of the forecast up the coast there in,
00:15:43uh, Jacksonville.
00:15:44So we are playing some South Florida storm games here.
00:15:49Dana, are you at all worried about the Patriots going down to Miami?
00:15:52Man, historically with the Patriots, whether it was under Tom Brady or whether it was with,
00:15:57with Drake, man, man, going down to Miami, it's just, it's always a mess.
00:16:01You remember that one game when, when they scored on a, uh, the last second play?
00:16:06Oh yeah.
00:16:07And Grom.
00:16:08Yes.
00:16:08For some reason, every time they go down there, it's just an ugly mess.
00:16:12So yes, I am worried.
00:16:13NFL divisional rivals, man.
00:16:15It's just, it's just the name of the game.
00:16:17Doesn't matter how bad or good you are.
00:16:18Dolphins are really bad.
00:16:19They're so bad.
00:16:20Really, really bad.
00:16:21So that would, that would suck.
00:16:24Uh, all right.
00:16:25So that was a quick segment because we got John Calipari.
00:16:27We're going to give our guys some runway, the most charismatic man in all of sports.
00:16:31Again, guys play those, whether or not it's under in the Nebraska game, under Colts and
00:16:36Jaguars, under Patriots and Dolphins, whether or not it's going to get you paid under, under,
00:16:42under.
00:16:42All right.
00:16:43Coming up next, Arkansas head coach, John Calipari kicking off basketball season.
00:16:52Hello there.
00:16:53All right, welcome back to wake up bar stool right now.
00:16:55It is my pleasure to be joined by again.
00:16:57I've said it.
00:16:58I'll say it again.
00:16:59I'll never stop saying it.
00:17:00The most charismatic man in sports.
00:17:02That's Arkansas head coach, John Calipari.
00:17:04I know you got a very busy day today, coach.
00:17:07Okay.
00:17:07You got recruits coming in.
00:17:09The grind never stops.
00:17:10Thank you for making time for wake up bar stool.
00:17:13And you know, I had to make time for you.
00:17:15Come on.
00:17:16Yeah, that's very kind.
00:17:17That's very kind coach.
00:17:18Uh, Halloween plans this weekend.
00:17:20What are we getting into?
00:17:21Uh, this weekend, um, well, we get overrun because my wife buys the big bars.
00:17:29Oh, yeah.
00:17:30And, uh, we'll get overrun.
00:17:31I may have the team come to the house this year.
00:17:34I've done that before where the kids open the door and there's my whole team giving them candy.
00:17:40But, uh, no, we got to recruit in.
00:17:43Um, we got two a days on Saturday and Sunday, um, film session this morning, uh, practice today.
00:17:51Uh, we got so much stuff that we've got to get ready for.
00:17:56Um, I've got eight freshmen and two 20 year olds.
00:18:01Um, what that's the youngest team in the country, um, and, uh, they're learning.
00:18:08I love the team because they're competitive as whoo, you know, everything is, they want
00:18:14to beat the other team.
00:18:15And, uh, but it's, we're really young coach.
00:18:19You mentioned, you know, how many freshmen I want to ask you about one, um, Jordan Smith
00:18:24Jr.
00:18:25Is his ceiling as high as anyone you've ever seen?
00:18:29Well, let me, let me say this.
00:18:31He was 0 for 9 our first scrimmage.
00:18:37But his plus minus was a positive.
00:18:40Oh, damn.
00:18:41That kid wins.
00:18:43So if you want to have someone on your team that understands winning and winning matters,
00:18:50um, when I had Derrick Rose, I watched him play in an AAU game.
00:19:00Um, they had to cancel a game and the kid basically cried.
00:19:06Now, you know, he was 17 at the time, but I saw Jordan Smith do about the same at Peach
00:19:15Jam when a team lost another team, his team had won.
00:19:22But when that other team lost, they were knocked out of Peach Jam.
00:19:26And this, those are the kids you want to coach.
00:19:29Yeah.
00:19:30Winning matters.
00:19:31They'll do what you have to.
00:19:33They're going to be a great teammate.
00:19:34He's really, he's special.
00:19:37Uh, coach.
00:19:38So you mentioned the youth of your team and I don't know if you have a Halloween costume
00:19:43plan, but you got a little bit of McConaughey from Dazed and Confused in you.
00:19:47You know, I keep getting older.
00:19:49They stay the same age.
00:19:50Matthew McConaughey, Dazed and Confused.
00:19:52Cause it doesn't matter.
00:19:53The point is you've been, you are the expert at getting young guys to lock in, get ready
00:20:01to play.
00:20:02Do you evolve your system year to year?
00:20:05Is every team its own individual organism?
00:20:07Like how is it that you're able to constantly, uh, have these youthful superstars come in
00:20:12and, and you develop them so quickly?
00:20:16Well, first of all, you hold them accountable and you let them know that the culture is what
00:20:22it is.
00:20:23And either you'll change with the culture, but the culture is not changing.
00:20:29What's acceptable.
00:20:30What's not acceptable.
00:20:31Um, you know, we're, um, when you talk about young kids and how we do this, we do it for
00:20:40them.
00:20:40So I don't have a quote system that they have to fit into.
00:20:45We play fast.
00:20:46We play unselfish.
00:20:48We have five or six guys in double figures.
00:20:50So if you want to score 35 a game, you're not coming here.
00:20:54But if you want to be the number one pick, which has happened four times, or you want
00:20:59to be a lottery pick that's happened 35 times, if you want to be the number one pick, you
00:21:05could come here and do that.
00:21:07You want to start as a freshman, take it.
00:21:10I've started more freshmen than any coach in the history of our sport, but I don't give
00:21:15it to you.
00:21:16You got to take it.
00:21:17You're going to be in a gym with other really good players like you that have the same
00:21:22aspirations.
00:21:22If you want to be by far the best in the gym and no one else compete with you, you're
00:21:30not coming here.
00:21:31So part of it's through the recruiting process.
00:21:33We don't get everybody.
00:21:35If it's simply a money deal, you're not coming here.
00:21:41Somebody's going to offer you all this money because they're desperate.
00:21:45I'm not desperate.
00:21:47What I'm trying to do is say, we're going to make this about you.
00:21:50Last night, Darius Acuff got 30 points and 14, 15 assists.
00:21:56Malik Thomas has been playing.
00:21:59Trevin Brazil starting for the Denver Nuggets.
00:22:03Come on.
00:22:04I mean, Billy Richmond played great for us against Memphis and he played great against Gonzaga
00:22:12too.
00:22:12So, I mean, you come here with an idea that I want to be against other good guys every
00:22:17day.
00:22:18I want to be a great teammate.
00:22:20Numbers don't matter.
00:22:22They talked about Mika yesterday or two days ago in our game with Memphis.
00:22:28He had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
00:22:31Penny Hardaway said he could be the number one pick.
00:22:33Numbers don't matter here.
00:22:35If it is about numbers and ego, there's schools you can go to.
00:22:39It's just not here.
00:22:40Coach, you took the words right out of my mouth with Acuff and Brazil and Malik Thomas.
00:22:47These guys look awesome already right in the NBA in their first year.
00:22:50What is it about your style and what you teach these guys that allow them to jump right into
00:22:55the NBA and pretty much feel comfortable being a starting player?
00:23:01Well, we're teaching them pro habits and that's the biggest thing.
00:23:05Look, there's, we're going to play like pros play.
00:23:10Well, the other side of it, why don't we develop you to be a pro and have a long career?
00:23:16Part of that means you have to be a great teammate.
00:23:19You have to be, they don't trade great teammates.
00:23:23And, you know, you look at it, I called Nick about Maxie.
00:23:28I see you put him up.
00:23:30I, and I said, when he made the trade or when they've got LeBron, you have the perfect player
00:23:38for LeBron because Maxie will just play and he'll say if LeBron has it, go because he learned
00:23:47that way.
00:23:47He knows if Emmanuel quickly is going for 30, I'm fine.
00:23:52But I'm going to go get my 32.
00:23:55And you know what?
00:23:56He has made me so proud because he hadn't changed.
00:24:00They're all good kids that way.
00:24:02When you're recruiting, if a kid's a bad kid, how can I bring him here?
00:24:07He could ruin seven other kids.
00:24:09And wait a minute, their families.
00:24:12This is their family's opportunity to break through the American dream.
00:24:17Their son is a genius at what he does.
00:24:22And so you look at this and I'm habits, being a great teammate, learning to share.
00:24:28How about this one?
00:24:30You're going to have to take what you want.
00:24:32You're going to have to carve your niche.
00:24:34When you go to that league, they're not running plays for you.
00:24:37Shoot, they may stick you in a corner.
00:24:40You've got to figure it out.
00:24:42You've got to take what you want.
00:24:44You want me to just give it to you and we're going to run every play and we're going to
00:24:48have usage.
00:24:49Your usage is going to be, what are you talking about?
00:24:53Develop young people.
00:24:55Make them uncomfortable.
00:24:58Make them uncomfortable so they become comfortable being uncomfortable.
00:25:02Look, I don't, the magic sauce is putting really good players together who are really good
00:25:10people, who will share, they'll grow and get better.
00:25:14Now, the issue this year is we are so young.
00:25:19We're going to be on average three years to four years younger than all these other teams
00:25:25we're playing.
00:25:26I don't blame a coach for getting older players and trying to win.
00:25:31We're all trying to win.
00:25:33I couldn't get the good freshmen, so I'm taking a 25-year-old.
00:25:37No problem.
00:25:37I don't have a problem with a player coming back to college to make money, even if it's
00:25:44his fifth, sixth, eighth year.
00:25:46If we let them, that's not on them.
00:25:49That's on us.
00:25:50And it may be the most they ever make in their lives.
00:25:55I don't blame them.
00:25:57My dad was a baggage handler.
00:25:58My mom worked at the junior high school cafeteria.
00:26:01I get it.
00:26:02I don't blame them.
00:26:03But the way I do it, you know what?
00:26:06I've had fun.
00:26:08I enjoy it every day.
00:26:10And I'm going to stay doing it.
00:26:12I'm going to do it with young kids.
00:26:13It's just how I do this.
00:26:16Coach, so it's, again, youth is a theme here.
00:26:19But put that schedule back up, guys, because, I mean, this is brutal.
00:26:22You're going to talk about top ten matchups just immediately out of the gate.
00:26:26Virginia, Indiana at the Garden, Michigan State, North Carolina, Arizona.
00:26:34These are all before January, Coach.
00:26:37I mean, in theory, most guys would say, no, let's go easy out the gates, challenge them
00:26:43to hit our stride.
00:26:44You're throwing these kids in the deep end.
00:26:46Well, I had no choice.
00:26:48When you step in our league, like I said, I think I was smoking crack when I did this.
00:26:54But I would tell you that putting them under the gun, I get to learn.
00:27:03We have been shooting free throws poorly.
00:27:06You know what I said to them after the last game?
00:27:08There are some of you that can't play the last five minutes of the game.
00:27:12Because if you get fouled, you're going to miss.
00:27:14I can't leave you in.
00:27:15That's on you, not me.
00:27:17So we need to learn who physically can play in some of these games.
00:27:22Virginia is a top ten, top eight team with big physical players.
00:27:27Can we play in that game?
00:27:29Maybe not.
00:27:30You know what?
00:27:30Wouldn't you want to learn it in November instead of January?
00:27:33True.
00:27:34So we're going to learn about our team.
00:27:36We could be 0-5 and still be pretty good.
00:27:41Still be pretty good with a way to go and a path to go.
00:27:45But look, we got seven footers.
00:27:48We got six 11s.
00:27:49We got, I'm saying, four guys, five guys that put their head on the rim that aren't seven foot.
00:27:56We got some guys that can make shots.
00:28:01But I got one returning player, Billy Richmond.
00:28:04We call him Billy Goat.
00:28:06He is a goat for us.
00:28:09He's unbelievable.
00:28:10But he's it.
00:28:11One returning player and a bunch of young guys.
00:28:14But I'm having fun.
00:28:16That's why we play Indiana in the garden.
00:28:18I want to see the place packed just so people can watch a bunch of young guys.
00:28:25We're going to make mistakes.
00:28:26We'll be wrong half the time.
00:28:28But if you're competitive and you'll battle, it's fun to watch.
00:28:34And that's what this team does.
00:28:36Yeah, Coach, you mentioned a lot of things that have changed in college basketball recently.
00:28:41The money deals.
00:28:42Is there anything about the landscape now that you think isn't working?
00:28:49Like you've been in both systems.
00:28:50Is there something that you would like to see fundamentally changed?
00:28:53It feels like the Wild West right now.
00:28:56Well, how would you guys like it if two leagues just form and they become the leagues, the Big Ten
00:29:02and the SEC?
00:29:03How would you guys feel?
00:29:05Like all the other schools, you're kind of out.
00:29:08Not that.
00:29:08That would be not for me, I think, Coach.
00:29:11And how I would describe.
00:29:13I don't think I would like that.
00:29:14Would you like that?
00:29:16No, not at all.
00:29:17Yeah, OK.
00:29:17Because I started at UMass and I was at Memphis.
00:29:21If that's how you feel, we need this federal bill to at least get started on reforming this stuff.
00:29:29Because if this bill doesn't pass, I feel the leagues are going to try to do their own thing.
00:29:37They're too competitive.
00:29:39They're all trying to get an advantage.
00:29:41It'll be a cluster.
00:29:44Or the Big Ten and the SEC say, you know what?
00:29:47We're out.
00:29:48We're going to have our own basketball tournament.
00:29:49We're going to have our own football.
00:29:51We'll play each other.
00:29:53We'll see you.
00:29:54We're out.
00:29:55Well, wait a minute.
00:29:56What are we doing?
00:29:58So if this bill, it's not perfect.
00:30:01I've been in the middle of it.
00:30:02Not perfect.
00:30:04But you know what?
00:30:05Don't let perfect get in the way of good and making it a start.
00:30:09It's the first bite of the apple.
00:30:11After we get the federal bill, you've got two or three years to get the other stuff right.
00:30:18Making sure you're taking care of kids.
00:30:21Making sure that they're on a path.
00:30:25Like, look, what's the percentage of kids that go professional?
00:30:31What is it, guys?
00:30:32Out of D1 college athletes?
00:30:358%, 4%, 5%?
00:30:37I don't even know.
00:30:38No, it's less.
00:30:39It's 1% or 2%.
00:30:40Wow.
00:30:41Unless you play for me, it's about 65.
00:30:43Woo!
00:30:45Yeah, coach!
00:30:47But here's what I would say to you.
00:30:50When you have free agency for every kid every year, and they transfer now, they'll be able to transfer five
00:30:59years,
00:30:59how are you going to get a college degree?
00:31:02How are you going to create loyalty?
00:31:04How are you going to create relationships?
00:31:06You're chasing money.
00:31:07It'll be the most you make in your life.
00:31:11Then you've got to live 60 years.
00:31:14What?
00:31:14What are we doing?
00:31:16Now, I was the one that talked NIL 15 years ago.
00:31:21Why are we not letting kids sign autographs and take pictures and do stuff for money?
00:31:27I said that way.
00:31:28I want kids to make money.
00:31:30But having five years to play, no exceptions, no waivers.
00:31:36You've got five years.
00:31:37Our sport would be, on average, 21 now.
00:31:42This thing is going up to 22, 23 on average.
00:31:46How about this?
00:31:47High school athletes are not getting scholarship offers like they used to.
00:31:53Every coach is waiting for transfers, older pros, kids that have gone through the G League and didn't make it
00:32:02come back, Europeans.
00:32:04What are we doing to the American kids, the high school kids?
00:32:08That's why I'm for it.
00:32:09Now, there's stuff in here that I'm like, jeez.
00:32:12You know, I'm holding my nose.
00:32:14Like, come on.
00:32:14But we need something to get us started, then fix it over three years, or let's just go and have
00:32:25the two leagues.
00:32:26I'm in one of those two.
00:32:27I should be fine.
00:32:28Why am I arguing?
00:32:30Because I was at UMass.
00:32:33I was at Memphis.
00:32:35And I know in this environment, I don't think I could have got done what I got done at either
00:32:41place in this environment.
00:32:43No way.
00:32:44No, I mean, any time you got a good player, he would have been poached.
00:32:47But let's talk a little Arkansas, Coach.
00:32:51Because, I mean, great success the first couple of years.
00:32:54There's back-to-back Sweet 16s.
00:32:56We all know what the football program is right now in Arkansas.
00:32:59Do you feel that you are kind of the bastion of hope for Razorback fans who want some on-court
00:33:08success?
00:33:09And how tough is that success to achieve in a conference like the SEC?
00:33:14You know, one of the things I didn't realize, when we won the conference tournament last year, everybody was going
00:33:21nuts.
00:33:21We had people crying.
00:33:23I'm like, what the hell is going on here?
00:33:25I'm worried about the NCAA tournament.
00:33:27I knew they were going to send us to Alaska.
00:33:29I could have told you that on Thursday afternoon when we played Sunday.
00:33:34I knew that was happening.
00:33:36But I had people on stage crying.
00:33:39And I didn't realize they hadn't won a conference tournament for 26 years.
00:33:43So there are things that are happening that I don't have the rearview mirror.
00:33:49I'm just looking this way.
00:33:51Second thing is, when you're about kids getting better and you're about their development, not throwing kids under the bus,
00:34:00it's bigger than just winning, which makes it kind of...
00:34:05Because if winning and losing is living and dying, you die a lot.
00:34:09So you just...
00:34:10I make it about the kids.
00:34:12Are they getting better?
00:34:13Where are we in this?
00:34:15Will we be one of the last teams standing?
00:34:18That's what we're trying to get to.
00:34:20To be one of those teams at the end of the year, every year.
00:34:25That's the goal.
00:34:27Doing it with young guys.
00:34:28It's a different deal with young players.
00:34:31I've done it over the years.
00:34:32There are teams that people said, well, he should have won it.
00:34:36You know, he's playing five freshmen.
00:34:38Five freshmen started one year.
00:34:40He should have won it.
00:34:42Okay.
00:34:43I should be John Wooden, too.
00:34:44I should have won nine.
00:34:45And that's fine.
00:34:47But at the end of the day, how do we do this?
00:34:51And me not...
00:34:52You know, I love the fact that we're having an impact on the university, on the athletic department, the state.
00:34:59But the reality is, it all comes back to these kids will take us where we want to go.
00:35:06They will.
00:35:07I'm not playing.
00:35:08I don't have a bat.
00:35:08I don't...
00:35:09So how do I stay focused on that?
00:35:13I'll help every other program here, whether it's football, baseball, whoever wants my help, I'm here to help.
00:35:22But my focus is on these kids and being real.
00:35:27Let me just say this.
00:35:28After the last game, I was rough on some guys.
00:35:32And we won, so it's easy to be that way.
00:35:35And I basically said, look, guys, we have some guys in here that do not want to give up their
00:35:43minutes.
00:35:45They don't want to share.
00:35:46This isn't communism, where we're all the same.
00:35:50No.
00:35:51Whoever deserves to play the most is going to play the most.
00:35:55I don't care what you're ranked.
00:35:57I don't care what money you have.
00:36:00None of that matters.
00:36:02And if these guys don't want to give up minutes, you're going to have to take minutes.
00:36:07And we have some guys here that you're not trying to take the other guy's throat out.
00:36:12You're just trying to play with your thumbs running.
00:36:14Come on, man.
00:36:15Go battle.
00:36:16Go fight.
00:36:17You got to battle.
00:36:18You know, that's where I am right now.
00:36:21And I hope you can see I'm having a ball.
00:36:23I really am.
00:36:24I'm so appreciative that I'm here.
00:36:27The support we have, the response from fans and what we're doing.
00:36:33But at the end of the day, I need great facilities.
00:36:37I need unbelievable support in the house.
00:36:41Yeah.
00:36:41Fans are, you know, but in the house.
00:36:44Yeah.
00:36:44I need a Catholic church, and I need Dunkin' Donuts.
00:36:48I'm good.
00:36:49I'm good.
00:36:50I'm fine.
00:36:51Hell yeah, Coach.
00:36:52Hey, thank you so much, man.
00:36:54Enjoy Halloween weekend.
00:36:55I know the kids are going to be pumped to come by and get some king-sized bars.
00:36:59Thank you for the time.
00:37:00We've kept you long.
00:37:01Best of luck with the crew today.
00:37:02Best of luck this season, man.
00:37:03Thank you, Coach.
00:37:03Thank you, Coach.
00:37:04Good luck.
00:37:05Thanks, folks.
00:37:06Happy Halloween.
00:37:07Coach John Calipari, absolute legend of the game.
00:37:10Love that guy.
00:37:1165% line.
00:37:12Yeah.
00:37:13Well, you know, 1% goes pro, unless you play for me.
00:37:15That was good.
00:37:16And 65.
00:37:17Coming up next, we got Chris Lika, a.k.a.
00:37:20The Bear, giving you picks here on Wake Up Barstool.
00:37:27What's happening?
00:37:28Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:37:29It's Friday at the beginning of Hour 2, and that means one thing, guys.
00:37:33It's time to hang out with Chris Lika, a.k.a.
00:37:35The Bear.
00:37:36Let's go.
00:37:37The number one leader in the clubhouse for most WUB appearances.
00:37:41Yep.
00:37:41You catch him on Big Noon Kickoff.
00:37:42He's already in Iowa City, ready to go.
00:37:45You can also catch him on the college football show with Stu Gantz and The Bear.
00:37:48Bear, what's up?
00:37:49How are we doing today?
00:37:50We're doing good.
00:37:51I could go for a little dunking like Coach Cal as well, but we're settling here with
00:37:56a little Celsius in my water here at the hotel, but we're good.
00:38:00It's kind of like the weekend before the weekend, but these are sometimes the weekends where some
00:38:05crazy things happen.
00:38:07So, yeah, looking forward to it's fourth and a long one from the 42, and Kirk Ferentz will
00:38:13send out the punt team.
00:38:15Hey, hey, hey.
00:38:16That's Big Ten.
00:38:20Real quick before you get into football stuff, Halloween stuff, when's the last time you
00:38:23wore a costume, Bear?
00:38:25A long time ago.
00:38:27Come on, dude.
00:38:28I know.
00:38:29I know I sound like anti-fun, but I'm really not because-
00:38:32I know you're not.
00:38:33I have been on the road, like, for Halloween weekend since 1996.
00:38:39Yeah.
00:38:39Damn.
00:38:40It's been like 30 years.
00:38:41Like, before that, I went as the Tegrin Man in one of the mid to late 90s when I actually
00:38:48was home.
00:38:49Like, you know what I mean?
00:38:49I don't know.
00:38:50I'm probably dating myself.
00:38:51What's the Tegrin Man?
00:38:51The Tegrin Man.
00:38:52Like, the Tegrin Dandruff Shampoo.
00:38:54I don't know.
00:38:56I have no idea what you're talking about.
00:38:58Wait.
00:38:59You went as a shampoo guy.
00:39:00That's a shampoo.
00:39:01Yeah.
00:39:01So I would put, like, shaving cream or something in when I had a little bit of hair.
00:39:07That's awesome.
00:39:08I wore a mass robe with, like, a toothpaste and had, like, a bottle of shampoo.
00:39:11All I would need to do is throw a little pair of bear ears on you with a little bear
00:39:13glove.
00:39:14Yeah.
00:39:14They'd be adorable bear.
00:39:16Wear that on Big Nude tomorrow.
00:39:17He's so cute.
00:39:21All right.
00:39:21As you mentioned, next week's slate, unreal.
00:39:24This week's slate, a little lighter, but there are some gems to be had.
00:39:28And one of them is the Invesco QQQ Gridiron Classic, formerly the World's Largest Outdoor
00:39:33Cocktail Party.
00:39:34It's going to be a Mercedes-Benz Stadium this year.
00:39:36It's Florida, Georgia.
00:39:38And it's a 12.5-point spread.
00:39:41Is it too big in this one, Bear?
00:39:42Florida's been proven to be capable of beating anybody.
00:39:46It feels a little bit too big.
00:39:48I mean, Georgia's taken some money.
00:39:49It was 11.5, and it's now 12.5.
00:39:52I just wonder, though, in this situation, will Florida be able to get those big, explosive
00:39:58running plays against Georgia like they did somehow against Texas when they came back?
00:40:04I wonder, looking along, like, big picture at Florida, like, the win against Ole Miss was
00:40:09kind of a perfect spot.
00:40:10And then when they lose, they lose.
00:40:13Two blowout losses.
00:40:15I think Georgia gets back on the right spot.
00:40:18I think a game being in Atlanta is a big deal.
00:40:20I think the Bulldogs kind of got their wake-up call, and I would not have wanted to be at
00:40:25Georgia practice for the last two weeks after that performance against Auburn.
00:40:29I think Georgia, if I'm in one of those, like, top 25 pick-and-pulls where you've got to
00:40:35pick every game against a sport, I'd be circling Georgia here.
00:40:38It's got to be Trammell Jones at quarterback, though, for the Gators, too, right?
00:40:41They can't come back to follow after.
00:40:42I think so.
00:40:44He played so well now.
00:40:46Again, it represents volatility like how we do.
00:40:48But, yeah, he played so great in his first opportunity, Mikey.
00:40:52Bear, we have a lot of teams in the Big 12, I mean, that have a chance to make the
00:40:56college
00:40:56football playoff.
00:40:57You've got big games this week.
00:40:58You've got Utah, Cincinnati.
00:41:00You've got Arizona, Texas Tech.
00:41:02Like, where do you see this Big 12 down the stretch?
00:41:06It's going to, next week, ultimately, it would be the deciding factor that the Holy War, BYU-Utah,
00:41:11who had rice ankles.
00:41:12The winner of that is going to have probably a foot and a half in the door in the Big
00:41:1712
00:41:17championship game.
00:41:18That game worries me tomorrow for Utah.
00:41:21It's kind of the same spot that Texas Tech was in.
00:41:24It's kind of the same spot BYU was in last week when they went to UCF.
00:41:29Cincinnati defensively played really well last week.
00:41:31That running game got going.
00:41:33They took that game personally.
00:41:34Can they get up again for another big game, Big 12 opponent?
00:41:39I think they can.
00:41:41Utah, we all thought pretty highly of them during Big 12 play.
00:41:45They've been in games the last few weeks.
00:41:47I mean, the Colorado game, somehow that was a game.
00:41:49And then last week, needed to come back to beat Houston at home.
00:41:54Would not surprise me at all if Cincinnati does win that game outright.
00:41:58The other game that you mentioned, Mike, I have no idea what to do with.
00:42:01Right.
00:42:02Like, if I could pick a game that I want nothing to do with in terms of betting,
00:42:06like, I'm not sure how good Arizona is.
00:42:09Like, the one game that they played against an opponent at this level, BYU,
00:42:14they wind up losing.
00:42:15But I don't know what to make about Texas Tech.
00:42:17Like, this is clearly a defense without all the loads of NFL guys
00:42:21that they had on it last year.
00:42:23Offensively, they're struggling.
00:42:24Do they go to Tommy Castellanos at quarterback full-time now?
00:42:28If I had to pick it, I guess I would pick Tech to get back on the right foot.
00:42:32But, again, it would not surprise me if Arizona went in there and won.
00:42:35Right.
00:42:36All right, Bear, speaking of quarterback uncertainty,
00:42:38how are you handicapping this Ohio State game?
00:42:41And what would you make the line if Julian Sayen were able to play versus now?
00:42:47Well, if Sayen were playing, I think we're looking at Ohio State minus, like,
00:42:5310, 10-and-a-half or somewhere around there.
00:42:55But we just don't know.
00:42:56Like, I don't think this is a Cardell Jones situation.
00:42:59The comments from Ryan Day this week when talking about, like, oh, well,
00:43:03Davian St. Clair, he's ready, too.
00:43:05He's looked great.
00:43:06It doesn't really give me a whole lot of confidence that Fahey ultimately is the guy.
00:43:12So we'll see.
00:43:13But ultimately, I just don't know how we can expect USC and Lincoln Riley to do something
00:43:19that they don't do.
00:43:20Like, if you look at Lincoln Riley's last 21 games against ranked teams, 5-16.
00:43:25Last 17 game, well, not 17, but his entire career versus ranked underdog versus a top
00:43:3110 opponent, 4-13.
00:43:34Versus top 10 underdog, I should say.
00:43:37I'm blurring my lines here.
00:43:39Never try and read when you're on the air.
00:43:42Just that's it.
00:43:42But, yeah, 1-9 versus top 10 opponents, 0-5 while he's at SC.
00:43:47So, like, expecting SC to do something that they haven't done under Lincoln Riley probably
00:43:52isn't the smartest idea.
00:43:54So I do think USC plays, obviously, better than they did last week against Wisconsin.
00:44:00But Ohio State ultimately should go out there and get the win, even if it is kind of ugly-ish.
00:44:07Bear, sticking in the Big Ten here.
00:44:08Me and Big Mike here will be heading to Bloomington today, actually.
00:44:12Yep.
00:44:13For the Minnesota-Indiana game.
00:44:15What are you thinking in this one?
00:44:16Because it kind of seems like Vegas isn't giving Minnesota much respect.
00:44:20Obviously, we'll be rooting for Indiana, but it's a big spread.
00:44:23It is a big spread, but I would lay it here.
00:44:26I mean, I think this week there's been so much talk about Indiana and not living up to
00:44:31what they were last year.
00:44:32But how could, I mean, 16-0 and having a Heisman winner quarterback, I mean, that's not
00:44:37an every-season type of season.
00:44:39I just don't know how many points Minnesota is going to score here.
00:44:42The Indiana defense is still really good.
00:44:45We saw Minnesota get a majority of their points last week, basically off of Iowa turnovers.
00:44:50If Indiana doesn't turn the ball over here, they can get Richard and Bebe back on the
00:44:55ground running the ball and controlling the clock.
00:44:57This feels like one of those 27-7 type of games, and I know it's kind of right around
00:45:04the number.
00:45:05I don't see how Minnesota scores more than 10 points in this game.
00:45:09All right, it's time.
00:45:10We do it every single week.
00:45:11Put up the standings, guys.
00:45:13It's time to poke the Bear.
00:45:15Put up those standings.
00:45:17Don't put up the standings.
00:45:18Put them up.
00:45:19Look, it's okay, Bear.
00:45:20Oh.
00:45:20Yeah.
00:45:21Oh, no, Bear.
00:45:22Put them up.
00:45:23What happened?
00:45:23Wait, we have pitchers now?
00:45:24I don't think we had pitchers.
00:45:25Who did we pick last week?
00:45:26What went so wrong?
00:45:28World Series.
00:45:29Oh, yeah.
00:45:30Yeah, I like those standings a lot.
00:45:33Crew, crew.
00:45:34They have six and one dominating here.
00:45:37Megan and Mikey up there as well.
00:45:39All right, this week, it's Wisconsin at Iowa.
00:45:43Hawkeyes minus three and a half.
00:45:45Chief, we're starting with you.
00:45:47You know, I think the Badgers are trending in the right direction.
00:45:51They had a good win against SC.
00:45:55I think I'm going with the Badgers.
00:45:57Oh, it's down to two and a half right now.
00:45:59Does that change your pick?
00:46:00No, I'm sticking with the Badgers.
00:46:02Okay.
00:46:02Okay, Dana Beers.
00:46:03I hate this.
00:46:04I hate this.
00:46:05This is tough.
00:46:07I'm going to – my six and one record is at stake here,
00:46:11but I'm going to stick with Chief and stay with the Badgers.
00:46:14It's going to be an ugly football game, but give me the Badgers.
00:46:17Ugly.
00:46:17Ugly.
00:46:18Ugly.
00:46:1914-10 Badgers.
00:46:22Okay.
00:46:22Outright.
00:46:23If this was still three and a half, I would be with you.
00:46:27What's the total in this game, Bear?
00:46:29Like 35-and-a-half, 36, lowest total of the year.
00:46:32Yeah.
00:46:32Yeah, yeah.
00:46:33Classic Iowa line there.
00:46:35If it was – it feels like a field goal game.
00:46:37If it was three and a half, I would absolutely pick Wisconsin without thinking about it.
00:46:42I think Iowa wins by three.
00:46:44Give me the Hawkeyes at home, a place that has been a house of horrors for Wisconsin under Luke Fickle.
00:46:50Megan, what do you got?
00:46:51So, I'm kind of with you, and if it was three and a half, I would have definitely taken Wisconsin.
00:46:57I did take Wisconsin last week.
00:46:58I know it wasn't on the show.
00:47:00I took them to win outright.
00:47:01I feel like this is going to be a tough game to go to Kinnick play and expect to cover
00:47:07that.
00:47:08So, I think I'm going to go with the Hawkeyes minus the two and a half.
00:47:11The three and a half to two and a half is a big swing for me.
00:47:13All right, Bear, what are we doing here?
00:47:16A key number of three.
00:47:17I will lay the points here with Iowa.
00:47:20You look at what Wisconsin's done the last few years against Iowa, 10-6, 10-0.
00:47:28Offensively, I think they're going to have trouble getting it going.
00:47:30And this is a Kirk Ferentz type of game.
00:47:32If you go back in the last 30 games, he's been involved in a game where you're looking at plus
00:47:38three and a half,
00:47:39minus three and a half either way.
00:47:41Iowa's 24-6.
00:47:4380% is pretty good.
00:47:44Damn.
00:47:45This is the one that separates the men.
00:47:47I was going to say, this is big.
00:47:48This is a good comeback opportunity for me and Bear here.
00:47:52This is moving day.
00:47:53Megan's fine either way.
00:47:54This is moving day.
00:47:54Moving day.
00:47:55But if we lose this, Bear, we're in trouble.
00:47:57This is going to give Dane and the boys a big lead.
00:48:00This is why you look at the standings.
00:48:02Never gamble professionally for a living year.
00:48:04Sometimes paralysis through analysis there.
00:48:07All right, Bear, thank you so much.
00:48:08Thank you, Bear.
00:48:09Thanks, Bear.
00:48:10Take care, everybody.
00:48:11Have a great weekend.
00:48:11Go check out College Football Show with Stu Godson, the Bear.
00:48:14Thank you so much.
00:48:15Coming up next, it's time for the NFL Graveyard.
00:48:20Who's dead?
00:48:21And then who do you think is dead?
00:48:23But the hand is shooting out the ground.
00:48:26And they got some zombie left in him.
00:48:28Coming up next here on WUB.
00:48:33Welcome back to Vega Barstool.
00:48:36And it's time to get a little extra spooky here.
00:48:41That's right, guys.
00:48:41It's the reason for the season.
00:48:43Spookies, ghosts, zombies, dead NFL teams.
00:48:47Let's look at who's dead and look at who's barely staying alive.
00:48:52Like a shambling zombie.
00:48:54This is T-Bob's NFL Graveyard.
00:48:55And the first thing we're going to bury, guys, who do y'all think it is?
00:48:58The most obvious in the league.
00:49:00That would be the Dolphins.
00:49:03No.
00:49:04Chargers.
00:49:04Chargers?
00:49:05No, one team without a win.
00:49:06Chief got it.
00:49:07Los Angeles.
00:49:08There's never been a more dead team.
00:49:09I would bury the Dolphins before the Chargers, but whatever.
00:49:13There's never been a more dead team.
00:49:16They go through the bye week and they decide, you know what?
00:49:18Yeah, we're just going to stick with it.
00:49:20Michael Daniels, you're fired.
00:49:21When does he get fired?
00:49:23I would have thought he would have gotten fired during the bye week.
00:49:25Me too, man.
00:49:26I don't know.
00:49:28McDaniel.
00:49:28Oh.
00:49:29Harbaugh, I think Harbaugh, they're going to be hesitant to maybe run off until there's
00:49:35like a premier candidate that maybe everybody would want.
00:49:38Yeah.
00:49:39Now that said, McDaniel feels like he is the walking dead.
00:49:43Unfortunately, the Chargers are just dead dead.
00:49:45Remember how sick that offense was for like a year?
00:49:47It was.
00:49:48He was the Wunderkind.
00:49:51Yeah.
00:49:51Ever heard of that?
00:49:52Their offensive line is abyss.
00:49:55It's, look, man.
00:49:56They're hurt too.
00:49:57It's a biz.
00:49:57Yeah, classic Chargers.
00:49:59Look, the NFL fortunes change.
00:50:00They can change in a blink of an eye.
00:50:02It's why it's so impossible to stay on top.
00:50:04It's why you see these coaches age like presidents.
00:50:06He doesn't know what a Wunderkind is.
00:50:08A Wunderkind.
00:50:09A Wunderkind.
00:50:10Like a prodigy.
00:50:11Like a, you know, the next like big, big thing.
00:50:14The guy that's a genius ahead of the curve.
00:50:16Oh, like Anakin Skywalker.
00:50:16Uh, yes.
00:50:18Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:50:19Actually, we call Anakin.
00:50:20He was a Wunderkind.
00:50:21Absolutely.
00:50:22Uh, next on the list, a team whose record maybe wouldn't, you wouldn't think would put
00:50:28them there, but it's the Vegas Raiders.
00:50:30Really?
00:50:31They were, look.
00:50:32Remember when they were 3-0?
00:50:33They were fun.
00:50:34They were fun to watch.
00:50:34But a lot of this is a function of schedule, who you're going to be asked to directly compete
00:50:40with, and the Raiders are good.
00:50:42Like, they're dead, but they're good because Kubiak is good.
00:50:45They have Mendoza.
00:50:46I like their future, but I don't think they're making any noises.
00:50:49I'm pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure Kirk Cousins leads the league
00:50:54in touchdown passes.
00:50:54He let it go into last weekend.
00:50:56He might be second.
00:50:58He might be tied for first.
00:50:59Guys, can we get a stat check?
00:51:01But yeah, he's been fantastic.
00:51:01With that being said, with that being said, is it almost?
00:51:04It's almost Mendo time.
00:51:07I've looked at the schedule a lot.
00:51:09There's an easy game and then a tough run of games.
00:51:12I would wait until the bye week.
00:51:14Okay.
00:51:15He's tied with Jordan Love.
00:51:17And that's for Jordan Love having an extra game, obviously, after last night.
00:51:20Kirk.
00:51:21Maybe someone should trade for Kirk.
00:51:22They're dead, but they're actually fine because Kubiak.
00:51:26Yeah.
00:51:26Like, Kubiak is really good.
00:51:28If Mendoza ends up being good, then the Raiders could be good for years to come, potentially.
00:51:33Next on this list, a man who almost died flying to England.
00:51:39The Philadelphia Eagles.
00:51:41Jalen Hurts.
00:51:41Thankfully, they catch the blood clots.
00:51:43He's going to be okay.
00:51:45He's out for this year.
00:51:46The Eagles already sold some pieces.
00:51:47Guys are retiring.
00:51:49It's a disaster in Philly.
00:51:51Eagles dead.
00:51:51They just have so many injuries.
00:51:53It sucks.
00:51:54The birds are dead.
00:51:55Because their defense is good.
00:51:57Like, they have the pieces.
00:52:00Jalen Carter is one of the best defensive players he has last week.
00:52:03He didn't play it as well, but.
00:52:04I was going to say, I feel like I need more out of Carter and Davis.
00:52:08Yeah.
00:52:08Like, I know they're beasts.
00:52:09They're absolute monsters.
00:52:10They're so big.
00:52:12Yeah.
00:52:12But you don't hear about them or think about them in the same way you do always a Jeffrey Simmons
00:52:17or a Chris Jones.
00:52:18I think they're on, like, running back six, I think.
00:52:21You know what this is, T-Bom?
00:52:23What's this?
00:52:23This is a bird flying into the windowpane, and my mom would always bury them in the backyard.
00:52:29We can bury them in the backyard.
00:52:30Yeah, we can bury them in the backyard.
00:52:31Is there any chance because of their division that they're not?
00:52:35Their division is kind of poopy.
00:52:37As we'll see with the zombie teams, divisions matter, but I still think the Eagles are dead, even within that
00:52:42context.
00:52:43All right.
00:52:44Coming up next, and this one hurts me, guys, it's the New Orleans Saints.
00:52:47Really?
00:52:48That division?
00:52:49Yeah, bro, because they can't.
00:52:50Did the production do this behind your back?
00:52:52No, no, no, no.
00:52:53They can't.
00:52:54After the Paris game Sunday, it is so clear this is a dead team.
00:52:58Yeah.
00:52:58Like, Chase Young's awesome.
00:52:59Actually, second in the NFL in sacks right now.
00:53:02I think Tyler Shunk's a good quarterback.
00:53:03Chris Alave's a top ten receiver in the entire NFL.
00:53:06They're an NFL team.
00:53:07They have good parts, but they can't do the fundamentals.
00:53:09They can't run the ball.
00:53:10We're seven weeks into the year.
00:53:13Their leading rusher is Kendra Miller with 150 yards.
00:53:17A great team.
00:53:17Wednesday chain coming back.
00:53:19On Sunday, they had 18 yards on 17 carries with Tyler Shunk being your leading rusher.
00:53:25They just want to throw up.
00:53:26It's an absolute disaster.
00:53:28They just want to throw up.
00:53:29Unfortunately, the New Orleans Saints, dead.
00:53:32Sorry, RIP.
00:53:33And then finally, we'll head back to a bad division.
00:53:36The Washington Commanders.
00:53:39Agree or disagree?
00:53:40I see some looks of maybe not so dead.
00:53:43I think this is the...
00:53:44Yeah, they're probably dead.
00:53:45I think it's a Giants division to lose, and they're just...
00:53:47They're probably going to take...
00:53:48The Giants-Cowboys.
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:50Right?
00:53:51Everybody's on J.J. McCarthy now.
00:53:53I like this graveyard.
00:53:55I gave credit.
00:53:56J.J. McCarthy zombie back from the dead?
00:53:58Yeah, J.J. McCarthy is the premier zombie.
00:54:01Yeah.
00:54:02I think J.J. McCarthy, great game on Sunday.
00:54:05I still got to see more of it before I'm willing to fully get myself over to the Giants.
00:54:09That's right.
00:54:099-2.0.
00:54:10All right.
00:54:10Zombie teams that are staying alive.
00:54:12Against all odds, somewhere out there, Stephen Che is smiling.
00:54:16Because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:54:18I like that.
00:54:18They're still back.
00:54:19They got a great defense.
00:54:22Like, Megan, the Bucs are still alive.
00:54:24Very much still alive.
00:54:26I want to ask you, Stephen.
00:54:28I know the Saints are inept, but they have the same record as the Bucs.
00:54:33Great work.
00:54:34I don't love...
00:54:36Something could happen.
00:54:37So, I agree.
00:54:38I'm betting on traits here and looking beyond the record.
00:54:45And to me, the Bucs' defense looks more competent.
00:54:48And overall, offensively, I think they're a bit more competent.
00:54:52I mean, Sunday, they dominate the Panthers, and Baker Mayfield is only asked to throw 11 passes.
00:54:56Now, that's not always going to be replicable.
00:54:58Panthers have an awful run defense.
00:54:59But, but, but, if they can do that, then the Bucs are still alive.
00:55:04And Baker's, I still think, a winner.
00:55:05And someone has to win that division.
00:55:07Someone has to.
00:55:08Yeah.
00:55:09Next on the list.
00:55:09Now, this guy's in a tough division.
00:55:11The Los Angeles Rams, dude.
00:55:14Can't doubt the Rams.
00:55:15Not in my opinion.
00:55:15You got the best coach.
00:55:16You got an MVP quarterback.
00:55:17You're going to get Myles Garrett back.
00:55:19They're really playing with fire with margin of error here, guys.
00:55:23But, they're not going to win the division.
00:55:24They'll find their way to a wild card.
00:55:26And think about it.
00:55:27Are you going to want to see the Rams round one?
00:55:29No.
00:55:29Yeah.
00:55:30No.
00:55:31I don't think they're going to get in.
00:55:33You're going to make a playoff.
00:55:34I think their next stretch is very manageable.
00:55:36But then their December gets very difficult.
00:55:39And if they already have, you know, what are they?
00:55:41Four losses already?
00:55:43Yeah.
00:55:43Are they three and four?
00:55:44Is that right?
00:55:45Three and four.
00:55:45Is that right in the production?
00:55:46You're going to have to probably, you might only be able to lose one or two more games
00:55:51the rest of the year.
00:55:51Because I think the North is going to have everybody above 500.
00:55:55So, it's going to be tight for the Rams.
00:55:57It's going to be tight.
00:55:58Again, they're playing with fire.
00:55:59But they are zombies.
00:56:01It's going to be hard to kill.
00:56:02Yeah.
00:56:03McVeigh and company.
00:56:04Speaking of hard to kill, they're back again.
00:56:06We keep doing this dance.
00:56:07It's the Dallas Cowboys.
00:56:10I don't know.
00:56:11I don't know.
00:56:40Nobody knows.
00:56:42But we've seen this dance before.
00:56:44And the Texans have that thing where, like, CJ Stroud's playing great.
00:56:47The offense is actually playing great.
00:56:48Hell, Marvin Harrison even scored a touchdown when he got back with Stroud.
00:56:53The defense just has to find it again.
00:56:55Which is weird.
00:56:56Which is their strength.
00:56:58Right.
00:56:58It's the opposite of what we thought this year.
00:57:00Their offense looks good.
00:57:01Defense looks trash.
00:57:03I think they're dead.
00:57:05Well, we're going to see.
00:57:06Again, all it takes is a single headshot to kill one of these zombie teams.
00:57:10Speaking of spooky things, every Halloween, millions of people are scared out of their minds
00:57:14at haunted houses.
00:57:15Megan, you're a big haunted house girly.
00:57:17And so, this year, our own Nick Tirani and KB No Swag found one just for NFL fans.
00:57:24Let's go.
00:57:25Love these.
00:57:27Hello, brave souls.
00:57:30And welcome to the only haunted house just for NFL fans.
00:57:35But I'm warning you now.
00:57:38This is meant to scare even most diehard of football fans.
00:57:42Do you wish to proceed?
00:57:43Yeah.
00:57:44Let's do it.
00:57:45Sure.
00:57:46All right.
00:57:47Let's begin.
00:57:49We'll stop right here.
00:57:50The quarterback's room.
00:57:52What do you see?
00:57:53There's a Dacula in there.
00:57:55A Dacula?
00:57:56That's right.
00:57:57What does he do?
00:57:58He sucks.
00:57:59And he's intercepted.
00:58:01Is that a mummy?
00:58:03That's Jaden Daniel's mummy.
00:58:05She controls all of his business decisions, burning every bridge in his path.
00:58:09This is a lot.
00:58:11I need to take five.
00:58:12Whoa!
00:58:12Do not say that in front of her.
00:58:14She owns that number.
00:58:15What do you see?
00:58:17Is that a zombie?
00:58:20That's a zombo.
00:58:22Nix.
00:58:23Oh.
00:58:24Don't worry.
00:58:25He can only chase you 4.9 yards at a time.
00:58:29There is a Broncos quarterback whose bite is more deadly.
00:58:33No way.
00:58:34No way.
00:58:35Let's keep moving.
00:58:37Right here.
00:58:38We'll stop.
00:58:39What do you see in there?
00:58:42That's an empty room.
00:58:43Right.
00:58:44But look closer.
00:58:45Nothing?
00:58:46Nothing.
00:58:46That's the Josh Jacobs consequence room.
00:58:49He's still playing.
00:58:51Let's get out of here.
00:58:53Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:58:54What the hell is that?
00:58:55You went too far.
00:58:56You crossed a line.
00:58:57You know I'm Jewish.
00:58:59You're at my mitzvah.
00:59:01It's the Falcon's logo.
00:59:03My bad.
00:59:06Okay.
00:59:06This next one's heavy.
00:59:07This is the time machine room.
00:59:09You will look inside and you will see your past, but in an alternate reality.
00:59:13Are you brave enough to look inside?
00:59:14Absolutely.
00:59:16Ew.
00:59:17Disgusting.
00:59:17Is that me being born?
00:59:19That's your mother.
00:59:20Congratulations, Mrs. Mahomes.
00:59:21It's a boy.
00:59:22Oh my God.
00:59:23This is amazing.
00:59:25Patrick, come in here and meet your little brother.
00:59:27No.
00:59:29Please.
00:59:30No.
00:59:31No.
00:59:32Anything but that.
00:59:33Please.
00:59:34No.
00:59:36Let's get out of here.
00:59:38Oh, thank God.
00:59:39There's a bathroom.
00:59:40Hopefully there's an open stall.
00:59:45Ben?
00:59:46Whoa, what?
00:59:47Ah!
00:59:48Ow!
00:59:51We need to keep moving now.
00:59:54Gentlemen, we're approaching the scariest room of the day.
00:59:56The final room.
00:59:58Here it is.
01:00:00Is that a conference room?
01:00:02It is a conference room.
01:00:04Is there a meeting happening?
01:00:06There is.
01:00:07This show is going to be great.
01:00:09We here at Fox truly cannot wait for this collaboration with Barstool Scott every Monday to Friday.
01:00:15Oh!
01:00:16No!
01:00:17This show is going to suck!
01:00:19Oh my God!
01:00:21No, no, no.
01:00:22Uh-oh.
01:00:23Yeah!
01:00:26Oh my God, dude.
01:00:28Shout out to Nick and KB.
01:00:30They're too good, man.
01:00:31They are just...
01:00:32Jesus.
01:00:32The best that we got put together.
01:00:34Huge shout out to our guy AJ as well, adding that up, getting it done.
01:00:38That's an NFL haunted house of horrors from the Anus boys.
01:00:42All right, coming up next, it's time to talk to Hall of Famer Joe Thomas.
01:00:46Talked about his delicious meats that he sent us last week, as well as what he's looking forward to in
01:00:51this NFL weekend and what he saw last night.
01:00:54Joe Thomas next here live from Chicago HQ.
01:01:04Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:01:05We got Joe Thomas coming by here in a minute.
01:01:07Bless you.
01:01:08Meg, was that a sneeze?
01:01:10Yeah, I was trying to hold it.
01:01:11No, no, that was fine.
01:01:12I couldn't tell.
01:01:13It was a very petite sneeze.
01:01:14It was like a...
01:01:15Petite.
01:01:16Yeah.
01:01:16Oh, a little petite puppy.
01:01:18Lola bunny appropriate.
01:01:20What time I do for Halloween this weekend, guys?
01:01:22Where are the plans?
01:01:22Y'all going to Bloomington, but no costumes on game day for y'all?
01:01:28No Crestables.
01:01:29Okay.
01:01:30Okay, right on.
01:01:31Yep.
01:01:31That'll be very fun.
01:01:32Chief, what do you got going on?
01:01:34I have a Catholic church retreat, pre-can of stuff, 10 to 6 tomorrow.
01:01:40Wait, what?
01:01:41In order to get married in the church, you have to do like a retreat.
01:01:44So it's an all day, 10 a.m.
01:01:47On Halloween?
01:01:49Yep.
01:01:49The only date available.
01:01:50You and the father?
01:01:52You got to be...
01:01:53Me and the Holy Father and the wife to be.
01:01:55So it's going to be...
01:01:56Saturday is going to be a long day for your boy.
01:01:59You could show up in a lot of funny costumes for that tomorrow.
01:02:02I don't think they would take too kindly to that.
01:02:04No, no, no, no.
01:02:05Likely, likely not.
01:02:07What about you, Meg?
01:02:07What's going on?
01:02:08I'm celebrating year 34.
01:02:11That's right.
01:02:12Megan's birthday's tonight at midnight.
01:02:14A Halloween baby.
01:02:15Also, White Sox Dave's birthday.
01:02:16Oh, it's White Sox, yeah, today.
01:02:18Okay.
01:02:19Which we didn't do Deggaday this year.
01:02:21Oh, man.
01:02:22We're slacking.
01:02:23Do we have the White Sox Dave TV interview ready to go with sound?
01:02:27Potentially that we could bring up because it's the funniest, my favorite interview of my entire life that I've ever
01:02:32seen.
01:02:32Yeah, I can't wait.
01:02:33We got a full weekend of just trick-or-treating, dressing up with the kid.
01:02:38We got school parades to go holler at today, house parties.
01:02:43I would love a suburb.
01:02:45It's the best.
01:02:46Bob, family, Halloween.
01:02:48It's the best.
01:02:49Leaves are changing.
01:02:50They're falling.
01:02:50There's that autumnal wind in the air.
01:02:53What are the kids dressing up as?
01:02:54So my daughter is obsessed with Pokemon because she is truly a little girl after a daddy's heart.
01:03:01She's a massive nerd like I am.
01:03:03And so she is going as the trainer Leeka from Pokemon Horizons.
01:03:08And we are all going as her Pokemon.
01:03:11My son is Squirtle.
01:03:13I saw that picture.
01:03:13Leader of the Squirtle squad.
01:03:15Very cute.
01:03:16Daughter's Spregatito.
01:03:17Let me guess who you are.
01:03:18My wife is Evie.
01:03:19My dad's Professor Oak.
01:03:21He's in town.
01:03:21What do you think I am?
01:03:22Snorlax.
01:03:23Yep.
01:03:24Snorlax.
01:03:24Big fat guy.
01:03:25He said it like five.
01:03:26It's going to be the absolute best.
01:03:27I love Sparks.
01:03:28Pops is in town?
01:03:29Pops is in town.
01:03:30Love that.
01:03:30Let's talk somebody else is in town.
01:03:32That's her guy.
01:03:32Joe Thomas.
01:03:33Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:03:34Hall of Fame Farms dot com.
01:03:37Yay.
01:03:38Yeah.
01:03:39Joe.
01:03:39Here, here.
01:03:40What?
01:03:42Admiral Thomas, a seaman if I've ever seen one.
01:03:45That just made me so happy.
01:03:46Joe, what's up, babe?
01:03:47How are we doing today?
01:03:48I'm doing fantastic.
01:03:49How are you guys doing?
01:03:50Let's go.
01:03:51Well, we're doing better because last week you gifted us with an incredible care pack.
01:03:56Here at Wake Up Barstool, we got tons of beef, tons of beef sticks, tons of jerky.
01:04:04Mikey, what was your favorite thing in the gift box?
01:04:06Well, I mean, I've said this so long.
01:04:07It's the jalapeno cheddar beef sticks.
01:04:09They're unbelievable.
01:04:10It is.
01:04:11They are the absolute best.
01:04:12It's unbelievable.
01:04:14During the post show last week, me and Mikey, because they were frozen when they got here,
01:04:17we put them in our thighs and warmed them up throughout the entirety of the show before
01:04:22we finally ate that meat.
01:04:23Joe, it was like a feeding frenzy in here.
01:04:25After we got done with the post show, it was a feeding frenzy.
01:04:28Is there any left?
01:04:30I don't think so.
01:04:31I may or may not have a little stash somewhere.
01:04:32Chief, we have a bag that's in the freezer since we missed last week that we're supposed
01:04:35to split evenly between us.
01:04:37Let's go figure that out for the show.
01:04:39Also, Joe, last thing I'll say about the meat.
01:04:41So, I made a chili with the ground beef.
01:04:44Did you put sweet potatoes in it?
01:04:45No, we did not put sweet potatoes in it.
01:04:47Thank goodness.
01:04:49It's still not right.
01:04:50It's still not right.
01:04:51My texture wasn't great.
01:04:52I got chili mugged by my wife last night.
01:04:54She made some.
01:04:55It was awesome.
01:04:55But the meat was incredible.
01:04:57And the tallow, man.
01:04:59I've been using the tallow on the cast iron.
01:05:02It's a perfect way to take care of the old girl.
01:05:05Cannot thank you enough, brother.
01:05:06We were all just, ooh.
01:05:07Yeah, it's the best.
01:05:08My pleasure.
01:05:09My pleasure.
01:05:09Glad you guys are utilizing it, putting it to good use.
01:05:12Let's get into football.
01:05:14Last night, Thursday night football.
01:05:16What happened to the Panthers, O-line?
01:05:18Was it more about the Panthers' protection or the Packers' pass rush?
01:05:22Well, I think it was more about the Panthers' receivers not able to get open.
01:05:26And then the Packers, they were overloading.
01:05:27They were sending one more blitzer than the Panthers could handle.
01:05:30And so, they just didn't have time to be able to throw the football.
01:05:33And so, I think when you don't have anybody that's open down the field
01:05:36and you've got free rushers getting at your quarterback,
01:05:39just like you saw right there, quarterback has no option.
01:05:41He's got nowhere to go with the football.
01:05:43But you've got to give credit to the Packers' defense.
01:05:45They did a great job, even when they were sending guys,
01:05:47getting their hands in the air, understanding that, hey,
01:05:49if we're going to send one more than they can block,
01:05:52the ball's going to come out quick.
01:05:53So, we've got to get our hands in the air and try to deflect passes.
01:05:56And that's really what they were able to do.
01:05:57And you saw the big interception midway through.
01:06:00I think it was the second half, knocking the ball up into the air.
01:06:03And it just frustrated the Panthers' offense.
01:06:05It frustrated Bryce Young.
01:06:07And they felt like they couldn't do anything,
01:06:08even though the Packers had no run game whatsoever,
01:06:11which is the status quo for the Packers.
01:06:14The Panthers were just not able to get anything going all night.
01:06:17And it was the result because all season long,
01:06:20the Packers' defense has been bringing it
01:06:22and keeping them in some of those games
01:06:24when their offensive line has not been very great.
01:06:26Joe, a couple of massive trades in the NFL.
01:06:30Let's start on the offensive side of the ball.
01:06:33Quentin Nelson.
01:06:33The Colts are in a fire cell.
01:06:35Quentin Nelson making his way to Seattle.
01:06:38All of a sudden, he joins a Super Bowl contender.
01:06:41Talk to us about what separates Nelson as a player
01:06:44and what you expect from him,
01:06:48like the impact he'll have on the Seahawks.
01:06:51Well, Quentin Nelson's one of the greatest guards of his generation.
01:06:54He's an old-school mauler.
01:06:56He's really made a name for himself as a guy that can pull,
01:06:59get out on the edge, erase people, take them off the screen.
01:07:02And the run game for the Colts in between the tackles, right?
01:07:06The A and B gap where Quentin Nelson's dominating right there.
01:07:09You see that inside slip block, beautiful stuff,
01:07:11great technique, keeping his shoulders square,
01:07:12moving the line of scrimmage.
01:07:14That's really where he excels.
01:07:15And that's where the Colts have always had a great run game.
01:07:18I think they're like five yards of carry almost in those A gaps.
01:07:21And that's really where Seattle has struggled the most
01:07:23is running the ball inside the tackles.
01:07:25And so they thought that they could bring in a guy
01:07:27like Quentin Nelson
01:07:28and really change the attitude of that offensive line,
01:07:32make that run game more effective on the inside,
01:07:34more effective pulling and running behind big Quentin Nelson.
01:07:38And I think more than anything,
01:07:39they needed somebody who could be an attitude guy in that offense,
01:07:42who could really deliver the message from the very first play that,
01:07:46hey, it's going to be a long day defense.
01:07:47You might as well just lay down right now and take it
01:07:50because we're going to run right here all day long.
01:07:53And so bringing that attitude guy,
01:07:55I think was really the difference maker
01:07:56in why Seattle wanted to make that trade.
01:07:59Yeah, Joe, speaking of the Seahawks,
01:08:00we saw them in a game against the Chiefs last week
01:08:02where they really just kind of dominated.
01:08:05Is this game something we have to be concerned about for the Chiefs
01:08:10or is it more let's not overreact, it's one game?
01:08:12Or is this really just the Seahawks are that good?
01:08:15I think the Seahawks are pretty good
01:08:17and they understand what their identity is, right?
01:08:19They can play great defense.
01:08:20They can run the football.
01:08:22And I think for the Chiefs, it was more just about, you know,
01:08:25they've had two starting receivers out since week four.
01:08:28And, you know, Seattle realized what they could win with
01:08:31and, you know, what Kansas City can't win with.
01:08:34And on that night, I don't think it was necessarily like
01:08:36that the Chiefs got exposed,
01:08:38but they just realized that that night
01:08:40they weren't going to be able to throw the football.
01:08:42They don't have their weapons out there.
01:08:43And Seattle just had a chance to take advantage of it.
01:08:47Now, Nelson gets out of the AFC South.
01:08:50He thinks he's free of Jeffrey Simmons.
01:08:53Looked up the schedule Monday night.
01:08:55Now he's on the Bears.
01:08:57What kind of an impact is Simmons going to have on this Bears line?
01:09:01And how difficult is it for an offensive game plan
01:09:03for a de-tackle that dominant?
01:09:06Yeah, defensive tackles, going back to Aaron Donald,
01:09:09are one of those, like, secret weapons
01:09:11because when you've got a guy that's super dominant,
01:09:14that's almost unblockable like an Aaron Donald,
01:09:16like a Jeffrey Simmons, they're really hard to account for
01:09:18because if you've got an outside rusher,
01:09:20you can add a tight end, you can chip him,
01:09:22you can bring a receiver in,
01:09:23you can give a little bit of help with a slam,
01:09:26you can add a running back, you can slide to him.
01:09:28There's a lot of different ways you can try to take care of him.
01:09:30Now, you lose resources because you're assigning two guys there,
01:09:33but on the interior, there's not a whole lot of things
01:09:36that you can do to slow those guys down
01:09:38because they're naturally going to get a one-and-a-half
01:09:40or a two-player resource on the offensive line blocking that guy,
01:09:44but it's hard to add a running back from the inside.
01:09:47It's hard to add another tight end chipping.
01:09:50So, really, it's just up to those interior players
01:09:52to be able to try to handle him,
01:09:53and there's not a lot of schematic things you can do to eliminate him.
01:09:57And a guy like Jeffrey Simmons, who's all over the field,
01:09:59you see him, he regularly splits double teams,
01:10:01he's in the backfield, he's disrupting running concepts
01:10:04because when you do get that type of penetration,
01:10:07you knock off pullers, you're knocking guys
01:10:10that are in combination in the zone into the backfield,
01:10:13you're forcing the running back to cut back sooner than he wants,
01:10:15and you're just completely disruptive,
01:10:17and I just feel bad for those guys in the offensive line
01:10:20who thought, hey, we're good,
01:10:21we don't have to see Jeffrey Simmons again.
01:10:23You know, I remember at the beginning of the season
01:10:24when the schedule would come out,
01:10:25I'd circle games that had guys that I was going to play against
01:10:28that I did not want to see, you know,
01:10:30the Dwight Freeneys, the DeMarcus Wears,
01:10:32and I'm like, oh, man, we just got to get through this game
01:10:34and we'll be okay.
01:10:35And then all of a sudden, hey, it turns out the NFL,
01:10:37they're allowed to trade people and you got to see them again.
01:10:40Joe, speaking of these mid-season trades,
01:10:42I know you've never experienced a mid-season trade yourself,
01:10:45but I'm sure guys have came into the Browns mid-season.
01:10:48What's that like getting, you know, used to your new teammates
01:10:52and new scheme, new plays, new verbiage from a different quarterback?
01:10:56Like, what's kind of that process like for all these guys coming in mid-season?
01:11:00I would say for offensive linemen, quarterbacks, obviously,
01:11:04which, you know, almost never happens,
01:11:06but those are the two guys, two position groups,
01:11:08that are the hardest to pick things up right away
01:11:10because there's a whole language that you have to learn.
01:11:13And then, especially in the run game, it's all about fits, right?
01:11:15It's all about getting shoulder-to-shoulder in your double teams.
01:11:18It's all about getting your footwork perfect
01:11:20so your feet are exactly right next to each other
01:11:23when you're running those combination blocks
01:11:25so there's no air in between the double teams.
01:11:27And that just takes time to learn the guy that you're going against, right?
01:11:31Because it's not something that's universal.
01:11:33It's all about, you know, the guy that I'm next to, he's 6'5", 350.
01:11:37So he's got a little wider base, right?
01:11:39So I've got to adjust my footwork a little bit.
01:11:41So it just takes time and takes reps being next to him.
01:11:44Pass game, a little bit easier.
01:11:45It's more universal, kind of the passing concepts, the calls, things like that.
01:11:49It's easier to plug and play.
01:11:50But that run game is where it's just going to take a little bit of time
01:11:53playing next to each other.
01:11:54But on the defensive side of the ball, for a guy like Jeffrey Simmons,
01:11:57those guys are plug and play.
01:11:58You put him in there, he's a game-changer.
01:12:00He's either got that gap, or I got this gap, maybe a twist,
01:12:03and then go get the guy with the football.
01:12:05We got a 5-2 versus 5-2 showdown in the AFC North.
01:12:09I'm not sure it was the two teams a lot of people saw
01:12:11in being 5-2 at this point.
01:12:13But what are you seeing against the Browns and Steelers this weekend?
01:12:16Oh, Joe.
01:12:17What do you think is the turning point for this?
01:12:20It's a big one.
01:12:21Careful, Joe.
01:12:21It's a big one.
01:12:22It's a big one.
01:12:23First place in the AFC North is on the line,
01:12:25my Browns versus the hated Steelers.
01:12:27It'll be a fun matchup.
01:12:28Obviously, the Browns got him the first time around.
01:12:31Aaron Rodgers is playing great football.
01:12:32He does not look like a guy that's playing out the string at the end of his career.
01:12:36And for the Browns, you know, hey, they suddenly ran the football pretty well last week.
01:12:41They feel like they've got balance back on the offense.
01:12:44And, you know, the defense has played great all season long.
01:12:47So it'll be great to see if they're able to slow down Aaron Rodgers at all,
01:12:51if they're able to continue to run the football.
01:12:53And, you know, Pittsburgh has always been a tough place for the Browns to play,
01:12:57especially in recent memory.
01:12:59Not a lot of wins in the last, you know, 20 years or so in Pittsburgh.
01:13:02Maybe none in the regular season.
01:13:04So it'll see if, you know, this new Todd Munkin Cleveland Browns are really something
01:13:09that can actually make some noise here and have a chance to go win the division.
01:13:13If you can do that in Pittsburgh, that is saying this is a new era Cleveland Browns.
01:13:17We got a new coach.
01:13:19We're ripping the rear view mirror off.
01:13:21We don't care what's happened in the past, and we're for real.
01:13:23So this is the game of the season thus far for the Browns.
01:13:27Joe, you are a – you're an incredibly, like, fun guy, like a classical man.
01:13:33You're not afraid to get goofy.
01:13:34You're in costume day.
01:13:35What are the Halloween plans with the family this week?
01:13:38So we're at the farm here until tomorrow.
01:13:40So we're going to celebrate some family Halloween costumes here.
01:13:45And then tomorrow the kids will be trick-or-treating in the Madison area.
01:13:48And I'll post on my Instagram, JoeThomas73, our little costume.
01:13:53I think it'll be very popular among many generations because my kids, they're old souls,
01:13:58and they watch a lot of the TV shows that I watched when I was younger.
01:14:02And so we like to dress up as a family, you know, and do the whole Halloween thing
01:14:06because we're all kind of goofy.
01:14:07We all like to dress up and have some fun on Halloween.
01:14:10Now, are you going to – do you go trick-or-treating with the kids,
01:14:15or do you like to stay home and hand out the candy when kids come to the door?
01:14:18Yeah, I like both, but I like to start doing the trick-or-treating with the kids.
01:14:22We get together with some of the friends and the adults in the neighborhood.
01:14:25And, of course, we've got some road sodas.
01:14:26So we've got the pull-on cart with the coolers that we can share.
01:14:30We can share with some of the other parents that we go and visit.
01:14:33But then after that, yeah, we crash at the house, let the kids keep running around,
01:14:37get their sugar high out.
01:14:38Are you a king-size candy bar?
01:14:40Are you handing out big bars?
01:14:41Have to be.
01:14:41Well, we would, but we're handing out Hall of Fame beef sticks.
01:14:44You're probably handing out beef sticks.
01:14:45Why are you handing out beef jerky?
01:14:49A three-year-old girl dressed up as Elsa's like, what?
01:14:52What do I do with this?
01:14:54This isn't sugar.
01:14:55A hot and shunty beef stick?
01:14:58Give it to your parents.
01:14:59They'll appreciate it, kid.
01:15:00Oh, man.
01:15:01Hell yeah, Joe.
01:15:02Well, thank you so much, guys.
01:15:03Hall of Fame Farm.
01:15:04Thanks, Joe.
01:15:04Hall of Fame Beef.
01:15:05If you want the best Wagyu, most natural, hormone-free organ,
01:15:09they're the absolute best.
01:15:10You the man, Joe.
01:15:11Have a great Halloween.
01:15:12Best of luck to the Browns, Sunday.
01:15:13Thanks, guys.
01:15:14Happy Halloween.
01:15:15Thanks, Joe.
01:15:16Here he is.
01:15:17The lover of semen, the naval captain himself, Joe Thomas.
01:15:22Come on, T-Bob.
01:15:22Coming up next, time for the Money Corner with Megan making money.
01:15:25What are we going to play this weekend?
01:15:27Get a little spooky parlay action.
01:15:30Come on, T-Bob.
01:15:31What?
01:15:33Oh, there it is, guys.
01:15:35You know what that means.
01:15:37It's time to head to the Money Corner.
01:15:40That's right.
01:15:40Megan making money has cooked us up a nice little parlay to play on this Halloween weekend.
01:15:45Lola, what do we got?
01:15:46First up, we have a graphic or no?
01:15:49Yeah, it's coming.
01:15:51Slowly, slowly.
01:15:51There it is.
01:15:52We're going to take Auburn plus the 12-and-a-half at Ole Miss.
01:15:56Classic sandwich spot here for Ole Miss.
01:15:59Coming up.
01:16:00Sandwich?
01:16:01Sandwich, exactly.
01:16:02I was going to ask Kanek if he wanted one, but it's a little distracting.
01:16:06Obviously, Ole Miss is off a tough loss to Texas, and they have Georgia on deck.
01:16:11That's pretty tough.
01:16:13Obviously, Auburn had their letdown last week against our Tigers, but they should still be
01:16:18playing with some confidence, as obviously they did beat Georgia.
01:16:20They got to stick to that same game script, though, when playing Ole Miss.
01:16:24Run the ball.
01:16:25Keep Chambliss off the field.
01:16:26Obviously, they don't have Lacy, so Chambliss is going to have to do a lot of work to cover
01:16:30a big number.
01:16:31I'll go ahead and take Auburn plus the 12-and-a-half.
01:16:34Yeah, this is an interesting one.
01:16:35A lot of dueling themes at play.
01:16:36The Kiwan-Lacy element, I think, is the strongest point for you here, because when he does not
01:16:42play, the Ole Miss offense looks completely different.
01:16:45All right.
01:16:46Up next, we have Minnesota, Indiana, under 41-and-a-half.
01:16:51Love that.
01:16:52That's Big Ten football, baby.
01:16:53I mean, I don't really have to do a whole lot of explaining here.
01:16:56You saw both of the previous games here, where I think it was like 13-10, and what was it?
01:17:01Whatever, Indiana.
01:17:02Anyway, both complete unders, and I see this happening again.
01:17:06Another Big Ten under, 41-and-a-half.
01:17:08There you go.
01:17:09What do we got next?
01:17:09Let's start on the list.
01:17:10Up next, we got Wake Forest, minus 12-and-a-half versus Virginia.
01:17:16Gio Lopez has looked good, and not just that, but Virginia has, I believe, it's a dozen players
01:17:23officially ruled out.
01:17:25Wake has covered the spread in five straight.
01:17:28Virginia, 0-and-4.
01:17:30ATS, their last four.
01:17:32Also, just lost to Duke at home in a fourth-quarter collapse, so big emotional letdown.
01:17:37We're going to go ahead and take the Deacon Demons, minus the 12-and-a-half.
01:17:41Wake Forest, Jake Dickert, probably coach of the year thus far.
01:17:46Gio Lopez, against all odds, a top-10 quarterback in the country this year.
01:17:50Seventh-rated in QBR.
01:17:51Damn.
01:17:52Up next, we got Purdue, plus 9-and-a-half at Penn State.
01:17:57Look, I'm not taking them to win, K-Dick.
01:18:00We're just taking them to cover against Penn State.
01:18:02How?
01:18:02Doesn't spark a lot of confidence in me.
01:18:05I know they're off of a bye week, but I think they have, let's see, how many?
01:18:10Eleven players officially ruled out with four questionable.
01:18:13They haven't won in the Big Ten.
01:18:15They're 0-and-4 in the Big Ten.
01:18:16They haven't won a game since mid-September.
01:18:19So, I have a problem seeing them win a Big Ten game, let alone cover a double digit.
01:18:25So, we're going to go ahead and take Purdue, plus a 9-and-a-half.
01:18:27It's actually insane in a year in which Minnesota's fourth in the Big Ten right now.
01:18:34Northwestern's top three.
01:18:36You know, you have all these teams rising.
01:18:37Penn State is at the absolute bottom.
01:18:40What a disaster for the Nittany Lions.
01:18:43Up next, and last but not least, we have Ohio State minus the 6-and-a-half.
01:18:48I feel like this is a bye-low spot on the Buckeyes.
01:18:51I'm getting under that key number of seven.
01:18:54Bear talked a little bit about it when he was on.
01:18:57Obviously, this USC team is, you know, off of a tough emotional and physical loss to Wisconsin.
01:19:03They're back at home in the Coliseum.
01:19:05But look, Ohio State, even without saying, they're out to prove that they're still the number two team in the
01:19:10country for a reason.
01:19:11I don't care about who's playing a quarterback because that Ohio State defense is nasty.
01:19:17They have some dogs on that team.
01:19:19Give me Ohio State minus the 6 against Ohio State.
01:19:21Let's go, Megan.
01:19:22Shane limits Ohio State's ceiling.
01:19:26But like you said, defense, you lean on running the ball more.
01:19:30And then who's ever under center, just get the ball to four.
01:19:33Just get it to Jeremiah Smith.
01:19:35He will make you right.
01:19:36What's the number?
01:19:37Plus 2,300, guys.
01:19:39There it is.
01:19:40Screenshot it.
01:19:41Right now, we're going to head over to the Yuck Station.
01:19:43It's time for Last Call with Dana Beers.
01:19:48Glug, glug, glug.
01:19:49May I interest you in a beverage.
01:19:51Gluggy, glug, glug.
01:19:52I would love a beverage.
01:19:53May I interest you in a beverage.
01:19:55Thank you, sir.
01:19:56Big Mouth Billy Beers.
01:19:57Halloween, Halloween.
01:19:58Refill yourself up there, Beersie.
01:20:00Halloween.
01:20:01Happy birthday, Megan.
01:20:02Thank you, Megan.
01:20:03Happy birthday, Meg.
01:20:05So out of the Jesus here.
01:20:06Mikey, are you one of the village people?

01:20:19All right, Obi-Wan Cannoli.
01:20:22You're far too big to be a Jedi.
01:20:25Yeah, I am.
01:20:25Like Big Mouth Billy Beers.
01:20:26Far too big.
01:20:27I'm pretty fat.

01:20:29Big Mouth Billy Beers.
01:20:31I have a last call topic real quick.
01:20:34Okay.
01:20:34There are certain people out there
01:20:36who think that dressing up as an adult is lame.
01:20:39Boo!
01:20:40Disagree.
01:20:40Yeah!
01:20:41Let us wear whatever the heck we want
01:20:43for one day of the year.
01:20:44Maybe people want to escape reality sometimes.
01:20:47Jeezum.
01:20:47I saw a clip of our guys over at Son of a Boy Dad.
01:20:50We love them to death,
01:20:51but Francis was talking about how dressing up.
01:20:53No, they're too cool.

01:20:56but how cool do I look right now, man?
01:20:58Yeah.
01:20:59I'm a fish.
01:21:00Also, I mean, like...
01:21:01I mean, Francis dresses up as an elitist every day.
01:21:05Just joking.
01:21:06I love you, Francis.
01:21:06You're going to dress it up.
01:21:07We're going to die,
01:21:09and when we die,
01:21:10nobody's ever going to be upset
01:21:11that you wore a costume
01:21:12and had a little fun.
01:21:13No.
01:21:14That's right.
01:21:14You know?
01:21:15That you dressed up
01:21:16like one of the village people
01:21:17and maybe make out
01:21:18with a couple of dudes
01:21:19and you're in Bloomington
01:21:20covering the Indiana football game?
01:21:22Like, you're going to die
01:21:23and you're going to be happy about that.
01:21:24He doesn't know who he has.
01:21:25He doesn't know those people.
01:21:26Come on.
01:21:26We'll talk about it after the show.
01:21:29Is this from a movie?
01:21:30The YMCA guys.
01:21:31Just don't worry about it.
01:21:34Guys, dude.
01:21:35Come on.
