00:00G'day, Zach Braxton-Smith reporting for Queensland Country Life.
00:04In this video, I'm going to show you how to find out more about the future of the labour
00:10market in Queensland.
00:11In the story, I've pulled out key points about how the number of jobs in ag will change
00:17over the next few years, how it could change.
00:20This isn't the place to spoil those insights.
00:23This video is for people who want to find out more about their region or their part
00:28of the sector.
00:29So here, you can see an overall snapshot of projections for the Queensland jobs market.
00:35It's one of many tabs I've got open.
00:37I'm surprised it didn't get lost.
00:39But to get here, I googled anticipating future skills first, clicked on the first link, and
00:51then looked for data.
00:56So this data portal, it's a great page developed by Jobs Queensland and the Queensland government,
01:03and there's lots of really interesting data on what the future of employment could look
01:08like.
01:09So I click on Data Explorer.
01:14And on this page, you can choose an industry, a region, and two years you want to compare.
01:21Really useful if you want to say think about what the next 12 months or next 24 months could
01:28look like.
01:30So just for example, let's say I'm in the ag industry, and say I'm from central Queensland.
01:43I want to see what's happening last financial year compared to this current financial year.
01:53So I put all that into the portal, scroll down, and it's telling me that the ag industry in central
02:02Queensland is set to shed 200 jobs in the current financial year.
02:11So that's still pretty high level.
02:14I might want to think about what occupation that decline will affect.
02:19So I click on this link on occupations.
02:25And that'll show you, without too many more changes, that livestock farmers in particular
02:32will be affected.
02:33There could be 100 less livestock farming jobs in this financial year.
02:42And you can also see the numbers for each other type of job right down to clerks and truck drivers.
02:51Let's say I want to get a sense of what part of the industry these job changes will affect.
02:56Well, then I can click on industries, click on group, and again, no surprises.
03:06It shows me that sheep, beef, cattle, and grain farming will lose 100 jobs.
03:14Again, you can repeat this analysis with any region, any of the years within range you want
03:22to, and any industry.
03:26That's the point though, they are just projections.
03:29We're yet to see how they'll play out in reality.
