00:00And I want to get Rick's takeaway on some of these trades here.
00:03And, Rick, I appreciate you doing this.
00:04I want to get your thought first and foremost on Giannis going to Miami
00:10and going down there with Eric Spolster and going with Pat Riley there.
00:15I mean, you know, you got Bam down there too.
00:17I mean, what do you think of the move there that Milwaukee made
00:20in sending him down to Miami instead of sending Giannis to Boston?
00:24Well, you know, a lot of this stuff.
00:26Well, some of the other trades are still not, haven't been finalized yet,
00:30the other ones, but this one obviously has taken place.
00:33You know, certainly the caliber that he is as a player, you know, is a big deal.
00:39But it still all comes down to who do you surround them with?
00:42What's the chemistry going to be like?
00:44There's so many questions that have to be answered when you make moves like this.
00:48And they've got to tinker with them.
00:50You know, Pat's got to figure out and Spolster's got to figure out
00:53who they want to play, how they want to play together,
00:56what offense you want to put in to utilize the talent of your players.
00:59Because I always believe that as a coach in the NBA,
01:02you really shouldn't be one of these system coaches.
01:05You know, you get a lot of that in football.
01:06You can relate to that, right?
01:07Football has a lot of system coaches.
01:09Well, if you draft specifically for players to fill the positions to play
01:14in that system, okay, that could work.
01:17But in basketball, it's such a sport with athletes that are so amazing
01:20who can do so many different things.
01:22Sometimes you put the guys in the system.
01:24It doesn't really take advantage of his talent to the extent that you should.
01:28And so I've always felt that you have to analyze your personnel
01:31and come up with an offense that's going to utilize them in the best manner possible
01:36and then get the entire team to commit to your defense philosophy.
01:41Because you've heard me say this a lot, is that defense doesn't win championships,
01:47but you don't usually win championships if you're not a good defensive team.
01:51You've got to be a good defensive team in order to win.
01:54There's only two times ever in the history of the NBA,
01:56I think, that two teams won championships that were not in the top 10.
02:00So it's a critical element.
02:02So all of that has to be taken into consideration for that trade with Giannis
02:05and the same thing with a lot of the other ones that are going to be taking place.
02:08You just don't know when you start making wholesale moves like that.
