00:00Crazy story. Former Chicago Bull. I think he was the top five pick in the draft, I think, in 22.
00:06Maybe he has not lived up to expectations. A bunch of injuries throughout his short career.
00:11But Jay Nivey is also a religious man.
00:13And Jay Nivey, in reaction to the NBA and many of the leagues, getting into bed with your Pride Day
00:20or Pride Night
00:21at supporting the LGBTQI communities.
00:24You know, the NHL did it. You saw the other day that the Nashville Predators, right?
00:28That they changed their logo for Pride Night, and they became the Gay Predators,
00:34which scared a lot of people when they first read it.
00:38But it turned out it was just a night to celebrate the Pride lifestyle.
00:42Did you see that? Hey, look out, everybody. The Gay Predators are coming into town.
00:47And people are like, oh, no!
00:50In any event, so the NBA does it as well.
00:53You know, they celebrate Pride Night, which is a great thing to let your fans know they're totally inclusive.
00:59And regardless of your sexual proclivity, we want you to feel comfortable coming to our game.
01:03It's all good, right?
01:05So Jay Nivey is a very religious guy.
01:07He's not down with Pride Night.
01:09And that's obviously his own opinion.
01:11And he voiced that opinion publicly that it's, quote-unquote, according to him and, you know, his Bible studies,
01:17it's an unrighteous lifestyle.
01:21And again, that's offensive to a lot of people.
01:23But to a man who lives his life by the teachings of any religion,
01:27he certainly should be allowed to also voice his opinion.
01:30Like, most people support it.
01:32But you don't have to support it based on your religious teachings and beliefs.
01:36So Jay Nivey said, I'm not down with it.
01:39You know, they're forcing Pride Night on us.
01:40It doesn't fit with how I live my life.
01:43It doesn't fit with my religious learnings and teachings.
01:45So I'm going to say something about it.
01:48And within 24 hours, Jay Nivey got cut by the Chicago Bulls.
01:53Now, he's been injured throughout this year.
01:55He's got some knee issues and leg issues.
01:57But this was going to be a big offseason for him as a free agent to maybe get a decent
02:01-sized contract
02:02and continue his NBA career.
02:04And I found it interesting that you would cut a guy because he simply voiced his own belief
02:12based on his religious beliefs about sexuality.
02:16Now, I know a lot of people found it offensive.
02:18I understand that as well.
02:19But there's dudes on NBA teams, as you and I have talked about this show many times,
02:25with domestic violence arrests who have not been cut from their NBA teams.
02:30And then here's the guy merely saying, it doesn't jive with my personal religious beliefs.
02:36I find it unrighteous.
02:39That's the actionable word here, that he finds it unrighteous.
02:43Okay, fine.
02:44But they cut him over it.
02:45And I'm trying to figure out why you're not allowed to have an opposing viewpoint
02:51when it's based on your own religious beliefs.
02:55Now, I'm not bothered by Pride Night.
02:57Great, have Pride Night.
02:59It doesn't bother me.
03:00I don't find anything wrong with it.
03:02I think if the gay, lesbian, transgender community feels good about it
03:07and they come out to games in droves to show that they're sports fans too,
03:11the more the merrier.
03:13But the fact that someone also doesn't agree with it,
03:16which should be their right in sports or just as an American citizen, right?
03:21The guy lost his job over it.
03:23And I know the Bulls are going to say it's had nothing to do with that.
03:26It's more about his injuries and, you know, he can't play for us, blah, blah, blah.
03:30But it's pretty black and white to me.
03:33The guy spoke maybe even an unpopular viewpoint in NBA circles.
03:38I don't know.
03:39And he got cut over it.
03:40And I have no connection to Jaden Ivey at all.
03:43But, man, if we're going to start cutting people
03:46because they're not go-along, get-along people
03:49when you decide to do something for a specific portion of the American community,
03:56then we are going into a dangerous area, in my opinion.
04:00Thank you, man.
