00:00At least two million of the five million Sudanese who fled their homes in the capital Khatoum have returned.
00:06Life is slowly resuming in several other towns just like the city.
00:10After military victory against the rapid support forces, also known as RSF, Khatoum's city centre,
00:16once home to bustling markets, towering businesses and wealthy districts remain a ghost town,
00:22a mass grave and a mines field.
00:25Power is constantly out, as water shortage becoming the norm.
00:30But despite the dissemating infrastructure,
00:32those coming back were overwhelmed by the thought of seeing their city for the first time in years.
00:37But although the authorities promised a quick restoration of normal life after their military victory,
00:42building remained damaged and workers are going unpaid.
00:46Some say they have come back only as a last resort, fleeing a crackdown on refugees in neighbouring Egypt.
00:53Fewer than 80,000 people have come back to central Khatoum, according to the United Nations.
00:58A quick drive through downtown Khatoum leaves a little to the imagination.
01:03The battle went street by street first in April 2023, when the parametri swept through town,
01:08and again last year when the army and allied fighters forced their way back.
