00:31Good afternoon. Welcome to the Countdown studio.
00:33It's Friday and we're heading in to the bank holiday weekend.
00:37Just packed solid with great events.
00:39These are the premier events of the weekend.
00:41I'm about to spell out to you, Rachel.
00:44So, tomorrow, Women's FA Cup final down at Wembley.
00:47Good luck, guys. Fantastic.
00:49Secondly, at about the same time over in Twickenham,
00:52the Navy and the Army have their annual punch-up in their rugby match.
00:56And then, take that, take that,
00:58they're performing their greatest hits at the O2.
01:01Amazing.
01:02What could be any of that?
01:03Tonight, here in Salford, a wonderful event.
01:07There'll be a group of dancers led by a certain Russian called Pasha.
01:12What a treat that'll be for everybody interested in dance.
01:16Fantastic.
01:16How will you be spending the weekend?
01:18What do you reckon?
01:19Well, see what the weather's like.
01:20But this time last year, I went to a canal boat festival down in Maida Vale.
01:25It's absolutely lovely.
01:27It was really nice weather.
01:28Sometimes we get those weekends where the weather and the bank holidays coincide.
01:32It was one of those.
01:33Everyone's got their dogs.
01:34There's all kinds of food.
01:35All the canal boats all decorated.
01:37And it's kind of signet season, isn't it?
01:40So you go down there and there's all the swans, all their babies.
01:42Absolutely lovely.
01:43And you can even, if you pay a quid to charity,
01:46you can have your photo taken with the real Rosie and Jim.
01:51Exactly.
01:52A whole pound.
01:53Yeah.
01:53Brilliant.

02:14Under two minutes.
02:15But what I think is fascinating
02:16is that she can recite the entire periodic table
02:20and pi up to 314 digits.
02:24Hannah, go on, then.
02:28How about pi?

11:46because it's all right

13:15to al the pub landlord favorite everybody knows they love queen yes the pub landlord only likes
13:24queen um he doesn't like any other music um and if he runs into any other kind of music he
13:29says it's
13:29good but it's not queen and we developed this as a running joke on a program a few years ago
13:35and i
13:36ended up singing with them what we decided to do was every music act we had on the show when
13:41you
13:41have a music act on a tv program they insist on playing their new song and no one's interested
13:46and you normally put them on the end of the program and so everyone turns off so we what we
13:50thought how
13:51do we get round this how we get round it is we let them play their new song at the
13:56beginning of
13:56the show and then we say all right but come back but learn a queen song so we ended up
14:01with people
14:01like brian adams doing fat bottom girls and uh all sorts of people madness covering queen songs so
14:08there's something to look forward to at the end of the program and something maybe a bit different
14:11but he did actually then end up with queen on the show and me saying to them do you know
14:16anything else
14:19which they took very well but um uh but but i have i ended up singing i ended up singing
14:24with
14:24the o2 as well as there briefly for about two minutes i was their lead singer which is so you
14:30stood up in the o2 yeah in front of lord knows how many 16 000 people perfect and bashed out
14:37a song
14:37with queen yes that's right and then and then and then left and the audience because we were filming
14:44it for something the audience basically had the look of what on earth just happened who was that
14:49why was he on stage why did he come on and honk all over this queen song and then disappear
14:54that's fantastic what a lovely call
15:01thanks al now then katie your letters game

25:09done 56 to 26 Izzy what have you prepared for us today what lovely dish two
25:19emails I'm going to try and answer today and thank you to everyone who sends them
25:23in because they're really welcome the first is from Rachel Reeve who asks where
25:28the term tickety-boo originated and its story began not on British shores but
25:33and far further afield and it's Lord Mountbatten and he's been credited with
25:38popularizing it so he was governor-general of India and the sound of tickety-boo
25:43is quite close apparently to the Hindi phrase tikai babu which means it's all
25:48right sir so you can see that sort of sense of servitude and deference and in
25:52there and that in turn is from the Hindi thick or tick meaning precise so that was
25:57the first email and the second one is from Julie Payne in Sevenoaks who asked why
26:02when something appeals to me does it tickle my fancy where does that come from
26:06well we have to go back to the late 1700s for this one there was an English
26:10country gentleman Abraham Tucker who described seeing a play that had he said
26:15the quality of striking the joyous perception or as we vulgarly say tickling
26:20the fancy so vulgar or not and he meant it in terms of slang and coarse language we've
26:26had this for over two centuries to go back to tickle it began with the Vikings we got
26:31that from the Viking word kittle which meant to touch something lightly and
26:34pleasantly but it always had for most people really pleasant associations
26:39because kittle and tickle meant to stir somebody to a thrill of pleasure that was
