00:03Good afternoon and welcome to Countdown.
00:05Now, as a motorist, there are certain things, and forgive the pun, which drive me crazy.
00:09And the latest of those is pay and display car parks, which don't give you any change.
00:14Have you noticed it's never £1 for an hour, £2 for two hours, £10 for the whole day.
00:19Oh no, no nice round figures like that.
00:21It's always £1.70 or £5.30, something like that.
00:25And of course, you never have the proper change.
00:27The machines don't give you any change, so consequently you end up paying so much more than you really should
00:33have to.
00:33I mean, what a disgraceful scam that is.
00:36Not surprisingly, it's estimated our collective parking overspend is whopping £2.4 million every year.
00:46Crafty so-and-sos.
00:47The car parks I use as well, by the way, they have a certain set of rules that have to
00:51be abided by, such as one.
00:53One, when waiting to get into a parking spot, always stop in the middle of the lane to prevent any
01:01other car getting past.
01:02Two, always park close enough to the next car to ensure the other driver needs Vaseline to get back into
01:09the driving seat.
01:10Three, when getting out, always hit the adjacent car as hard as possible with your door.
01:16And four, after unpacking shopping, always leave the shopping trolley behind the car parked in the next bay.
01:21Always seems to happen, doesn't it?
01:23Drives me absolutely crazy.
01:25Rachel, I did notice, by the way, that your top-of-the-range Jaguar sports coupe is parked next to
01:31my smart car in the car park.
01:33Smart car? You've got even bigger Jag than...
01:35No, no, I haven't.
01:36And you need your window open?
01:37Yes, well, I left the window open. It's broken, you know.
01:41I can't afford these flash cars. Nice little smart car, very conscious of the environment and so on and so
01:46forth.
01:46You did park carefully, didn't you?
01:48I did indeed. Anyway, I don't know what you're complaining about with the new parking machines.
01:51Why?
01:51I mean, I don't know how you manage with the old ones. You know, you have to put the 20p
01:54in.
01:55It's really, really hard. I'm surprised you could reach up to put them on in the first place.
