MAKE THAT 5 IN A ROW! Red Sox are quietly rolling... as they go for the SWEEP this afternoon. Jake Bennett went 7 scoreless innings- as he continues to impress in rotation. How critical are these next 4 games before the All-Star Break?
Could Sox pivot to 'AGGRESSIVELY BUY' at deadline?? Greg: I have changed my mind when it comes to Craig Breslow". Does Breslow deserve another season? Does Breslow need more credit when it comes to the pitching on the roster?

00:00Don't let the Red Sox heat up.
00:01So that is five in a row for this Boston Red Sox team.
00:07They are the second best team in Major League Baseball on the road.
00:12Right.
00:13And it's a good day for Bresbott to be on because they're going to have a decision to make.
00:20And my fear is, we talked a little bit about this yesterday, but every time they win again,
00:25it gets worse, is that they're going to make some snap deadline decision and part with pieces
00:35that you might need in the future in order to try to get yourself a wildcard spot and then
00:40end up not getting the wildcard spot.
00:41It's like I'm delighted that they are turning things around and are playing well currently,
00:49but it also is an absolute conundrum because I feel like they're setting us up for absolute
00:56disappointment at some point here.
00:58I think they're in a position where if they continue this and it looks like they have a
01:03really good chance to, you know, before the all-star break, maybe be, they're already at
01:07three games out of that last wildcard.
01:09They might even be able to get it down to one or two.
01:11I think they're going to be in the position to be small buyers where they're like, we
01:15got our, we feel good about our roster and we might need to add an extra bat, but I don't
01:21think you're going to see anything like crazy them doing, but I think there will be small
01:26buyers because they're going to say, if we can play the second half of the season after
01:32the all-star break, like we've been playing the last month, month and a half, we're going
01:36to be right in the mix.
01:37We could be a team that can not compete for a wildcard spot only, but compete in
01:42the postseason.
01:42So if a small buy is bringing in somebody for the lineup, right?
01:47A bat, do they have to part with somebody like Chapman in order to do that?
01:52Like, are you kind of riding the fence there where you got to give up somebody who everyone
01:57has kind of assumed that you're going to give up for the last two months anyway, in
02:00order to improve your offense and make it a little more balanced?
02:04I would say either that or you're going to have to part with prospects.
02:08Yeah.
02:08The prospects I'm cool with though.
02:10Aren't you cool?
02:10Yeah.
02:11Oh, we just got the update yesterday though, about how the farm system is moving up in
02:16the rankings again.
02:16But that's good though.
02:17That's them, you know, putting a nice fresh coat of paint on the house before they sell
02:23it.
02:24So I don't mind because think about when you kind of, excuse me, when you think about
02:28the farm system and you think about some players that the Red Sox have, I have no issues with
02:33them moving on from these guys and getting guys that, you know, can come in and you know
02:39what they are rather than what they could be.
02:41So that's where I'm at with this team.
02:43And I think if Bresbaugh is able to get this team into the postseason, I mean, isn't that
02:48a huge save for him?
02:50Yeah, but there are some like Daddy Seuss in the Twitch chat, which I am in right now
02:55and paying close attention to, who suggest that making the playoffs might be the worst
03:01team, worst possible thing for this baseball team.
03:04Well, it does, because it makes you kind of like the Steelers.
03:07Like you never get out of your own way.
03:09You're always middling.
03:11You're always in the postseason.
03:12Right.
03:13And you never do anything there.
03:15But it's two different sports though, man.
03:16I know, but come on.
03:18Sometimes we compare sports over here.
03:19Right.
03:19And it's like, it's palatable enough for fans in the moment.
03:23And then they get to the start of the next season and go, wait, we never really get that
03:28much better.
03:29Yeah.
03:29But if you look at this team, right.
03:31And this is, you know, from the talking heads of baseball, we've, we've talked to Bresbaugh
03:36about it.
03:36We've talked to Sam Kennedy about it.
03:38We even talked to Hein Blum about it when he was here.
03:41Baseball, you know, people believe once you get into the postseason and you have really
03:46good pitching, you can win a World Series.
03:48Right.
03:48Right.
03:48So if this team is able to get into the postseason, let's say they are able to get crochet back.
03:54And now you look at their rotation and what they have.
03:59I think this organization feels like really confident just because of their starting pitch
04:05pitching, their bullpen and even their closer.
04:08Like we could really do some damage in the postseason.
04:11Well, to me, a problem is that Jeff Passan said yesterday they still haven't chosen Elaine.
04:18So at some point, because you're a week away from the All-Star break, at some point you're going to
04:26have to choose Elaine.
04:27You're going to have to either be buyers or you're going to have to be sellers.
04:31And you can't sit, like Mago just said, in that middlin area, straddling the fence, trying to figure out what
04:39you're going to be or you're going to miss out on deals.
04:41Either way.
04:42Right.
04:42Like, so it's a good day to talk to Craig Breslow.
04:47He will be on the show at 9 this morning.
04:49Hello and good morning.
04:51So we've been talking about the Red Sox and what lane they are in and where they're going.
04:55Well, I'm here to help you out and tell you exactly the lane that I believe that they were in.
04:59When it first started, I believe they were in that slow lane ready to sell off everything.
05:05Based on where it was the pivot.
05:08But based on where they are right now, they're in the middle lane and that left blinker is on.
05:12Because they are looking, in my opinion, looking to be buyers come trade deadline, especially based off of the way
05:19that their pitching has looked all year long.
05:22But I think more so that their offense is starting to, you know, get a little bit of life to
05:27it.
05:27Players are starting to come around.
05:28And so I feel like this team looks at it and goes, because of their rotation and their starting pitching
05:34in Bresport, which he's done a tremendous job.
05:37Wait till I get to my lead on Bresport.
05:40And so I think that they're ultimately heading in the direction of they are going to be buyers.
05:45Whether they're going to be massive buyers, I don't know.
05:48Good morning.
05:49But I definitely think they're going to be in the lane of buying and trying to make a run for
05:53it.
05:53Because after the All-Star break, I believe they're going to feel like this, the team we've seen in the
06:01past several weeks, this is who we really are.
06:04And I think that's why they're going to head more in that direction.
06:08So it's like pivot, pivot, pivot back to we're going to be buyers.
06:12Guys, Craig Breslow, the chief baseball officer of the Boston Red Sox.
06:17That was a long time ago.
06:19Good morning.
06:19Good morning, Craig.
06:20Good morning, Craig.
06:20Good morning.
06:21Good morning.
06:22Yeah.
06:22So there'll be a lot of cheers for Bresport, I think.
06:25So you expect them to be buying.
06:26Yes.
06:27Aggressively buying.
06:28Yeah.
06:28I think they will definitely be going for it.
06:30Yeah.
06:31I think they look at this year as like, all right, they don't know what 2027 is going to bring
06:35with a potential lockout.
06:36And this year, they have enough firepower when it comes to pitching to make a deep postseason run.
06:41Okay.
06:41Well, good segue to my lead.
06:43I have changed my mind.
06:44What do they say, Meg?
06:45Oh, a woman always reserves her right to change her mind.
06:48Is that how this is?
06:49I believe something like that.
06:50That's how the saying goes.
06:52I have changed my mind when it comes to Craig Breslow and whether he should stay or go.
07:00I believe the Red Sox need to stick with Craig Breslow for another season.
07:03I'll tell you why.
07:05This rotation, this pitching staff has been A+.
07:11Do we all agree?
07:12Yes.
07:13And without Charisse.
07:14And that is minus your ace.
07:16Yeah.
07:16And you can't account for injuries.
07:19And minus Baio.
07:20Yeah.
07:21Who has disappeared completely.
07:23Well, but he may be if Ron Hair Suarez is not able to go on Saturday, they may.
07:29We'll talk to Breslow about this, but they may be calling Baio up.
07:33Get him in in the second inning.
07:35Please keep him away.
07:36Just tell him to come to the park late.
07:38Yeah, they should actually call him in the third inning and say, can you get here from
07:42Worcester in a half an hour?
07:46But Caleb Durbin, who is, you know, we were all over not so long ago.
07:53When you look at numbers now, he is basically same as Alex Bregman at, I don't know, is it
08:03a half, half the salary, a third of the quarter, whatever the number is.
08:07Yeah.
08:08Wilson Contreras is an all-star.
08:11Yep.
08:12Probably going to hit 30 as long as this foot thing is not a big thing and keeps him out
08:17for a while.
08:17The guys that Breslow is responsible for bringing in here have been the heart and soul of the
08:23baseball team.
08:23Right.
08:23So, the issues have been guys that are not his guys.
08:28Right.
08:29Am I wrong to say that?
08:30No, you're 100% right.
08:31Mago, am I wrong to say that about Greg Breslow?
08:34The only pushback that I would give is that the guys who have not worked out this year,
08:41some of them, at least I think primarily of Jaron Duran, are a guy you could have gotten
08:46rid of last year when he was here.
08:47Like, I think some of the issues with Greg Breslow...
08:50Alex Cora did not want to do that.
08:51Alex Cora was dragging his feet or kicking or screaming.
08:54So, that's not a Bres bar thing.
08:56Okay.
08:56But he's still in charge of personnel.
08:59All right.
08:59You know, that's the only pushback that I would give.
09:01I agree.
09:02It's a good time for Breslow.
09:04He certainly needed it after this entire season that he's had.
09:08But there are things that...
09:09It's more like the things he could have done and didn't do that are killing him than the
09:13moves that he brought in here.
09:15Now, listen.
09:15Game Dog is...
09:16Oh, no.
09:17Actually, I think Game Dog is on my side.
09:19Game Dog in the Twitch chat says,
09:21Two weeks ago, Greg wanted him fired.
09:23True.
09:24But at least Greg doesn't stick with stubborn takes.
