00:01So the next game up in the indie game series is Wilderdark.
00:05This one is being developed by Team Junkfish.
00:08They've got a couple of other games out, Bootleg Steamer, Attack of the Earthlings,
00:12and Monstrum.
00:13So I haven't actually played any of these, so I unfortunately don't really have anything
00:17to go on here.
00:18The game is described on their page as a survival horror and exploration game.
00:23So also on the Steam page in the description it says you find yourself on an unnatural
00:28island infected with a mysterious ectoparasitic organism, which is corrupting the dinosaurs
00:34and plant life.
00:35You're sent in here because basically they want to have you collect samples and search
00:39for immortality apparently.
00:41Okay, so that explains why you're there, but why are there dinosaurs?
00:45Well, as far as I can tell, it's not really explained anywhere.
00:48You're just going to have to go ahead and accept that there's going to be dinosaurs
00:52here.
00:53Alright, so as usual with the series, I had zero experience going in.
00:56I literally turn on the stream, then hit start.
00:59So first I'm going to play you some clips from the stream, and then I'll give you my
01:03opinion as to how I felt about the demo and basically my first impressions after that.
01:08I'll make sure that there's a timestamp or something if you're watching on a platform
01:12that supports it, and you can just skip ahead if you don't want to watch the stream clips
01:16and just want to hear me talk.
01:18So it was right mouse button to go into there.
01:23Left mouse button is to take the picture.
01:29Photograph a spore plant.
01:33Okay, so there's things down there.
01:36Is that a velociraptor?
01:39Haha.
01:42Great.
01:47Oh, there was something I needed to do.
01:49Visit a campsite to claim rewards.
01:52So, I can go back.
01:54It says I can climb.
01:56Yep.
01:57Okay.
01:58Okay.
01:58So just like move towards it, and F.
02:03Completed the mission.
02:08Okay.
02:12Photograph one of these things and scan a spore plant, photograph a spore plant.
02:17Okay, but how do you know if it's a spore plant?
02:20What is a spore plant?
02:22Does that count?
02:24Did I photograph a spore plant?
02:25No.
02:29Okay.
02:30Yeah, he's chasing me.
02:36Okay.
02:37Okay.
02:41Why did it fail?
02:45Oh my.
02:47Like.
02:49It takes too long.
02:51Oh.
02:52Is this a spore plant?
02:58Scan a spore plant.
03:00Yes.
03:01Photograph a spore plant.
03:05Okay.
03:06Great.
03:07Uh.
03:08Now what?
03:09Hilarious.
03:13Ah.
03:14Haha.
03:16Success.
03:17Maybe.
03:17Why is it moving like this?
03:21That's the.
03:22Oh no.
03:23I.
03:24What?
03:25How?
03:26Uh.
03:27Hmm.
03:30I don't understand what the problem is.
03:36Why?
03:37Why?
03:37The tree isn't moving.
03:39How?
03:41Well.
03:45I guess it's like breathing or whatever it's doing, but.
03:52Magnolia.
03:53Okay.
03:53Okay.
03:54So.
03:55I would say the world itself looks kind of interesting.
04:00Um.
04:02The biggest issue is I don't really know what I'm supposed to do.
04:05Like.
04:06I see from the list of things that I'm supposed to do.
04:10I get that.
04:11But.
04:14How do I work this?
04:17I don't understand my motivations really.
04:20There's a spore plant.
04:21Was it?
04:22Yeah.
04:22Sleep spore plant.
04:28Okay.
04:32So.
04:32We photographed it.
04:34Wait for the green to clear.
04:38So.
04:39Like.
04:39Uh.
04:40I don't know.
04:40Some kind of description as to what these Ix things are supposed to be would be nice.
04:47Cause I have no idea what I'm even looking for here.
04:51Yep.
04:53Gallery.
04:55Send photos.
04:56Yes.
04:57Back.
04:59Oh.
05:00Okay.
05:00Explore some.
05:01I already found the climbing gear.
05:03Oh.
05:03Okay.
05:04Collect.
05:05Photograph.
05:06Oh.
05:07No.
05:09I don't like the scanner at all.
05:13Uh.
05:14Why did photograph a spore plant come back?
05:16I already photographed a spore plant.
05:21Like.
05:22How many times do I have to photograph the same thing?
05:26Photograph a velociraptor.
05:28Oh.
05:29By the way.
05:30We need you to photograph another velociraptor.
05:34Part of this mission quest is photographing a velociraptor.
05:41By the way.
05:43Could you go ahead and photograph another velociraptor?
05:46Okay.
05:47So playing this one we did have some mechanical issues but honestly I'm not gonna hold that
05:51against them.
05:52It's a demo.
05:52These things are expected.
05:53As far as the actual gameplay it basically just has you running around in this zone.
05:58Taking pictures of certain things.
06:00Scanning dinosaurs and plants.
06:02Collecting samples.
06:03And finding specific locations.
06:05Actually it kinda gives you that feeling like the scanning things part of Starfield
06:10when you first land on a planet.
06:12Then after completing a set of tasks you make your way back to a campsite.
06:16Which there seems to be campsites just dotted around.
06:18And turn in your completed tasks.
06:20The world does seem interesting.
06:22I would like to know more about, well again, why are there dinosaurs?
06:27I assume this is gonna be explained in the game when it's released.
06:31But you just gotta take it on face value in the demo here.
06:34While playing I did get sick of taking pictures of velociraptors.
06:38As it seemed like that was asked in just about every set of tasks.
06:42Again, given that it's a demo I guess it's understandable that they only have a few things to work with
06:47at this point.
06:47I definitely feel like there's a core of something here though.
06:51But it needs to be fleshed out.
06:52If the game is going to stay as only taking pictures and collecting samples while surviving.
06:57I'm not sure.
06:59I don't think I'd want to play an entire game that's just that.
07:02It's fine as like a side quest or side missions.
07:06But I would hope that there's more real tasks I guess you could say.
07:11They do make you find some climbing gear to use.
07:13So it's kind of a fetch type quest.
07:15But still I think things like this will do a lot to break up the finding samples and taking pictures.
07:22So hopefully they have more things to complete like that.
07:27Performance in the game wasn't stellar but again it's a demo.
07:30I wasn't really a huge fan of the color schemes either.
07:33It's all very dark gray and green.
07:36But I think that's deliberate as an aesthetic choice.
07:39The game is a horror and I think what they wanted to do was have things like plant life or
07:44corrupted dinosaurs just really pop against that background.
07:47It's certainly a nitpick and it's going to be subjective to player.
07:51So maybe you'll like it.
07:52Anyway, overall I'd say that this is one of the better games that I've seen so far while doing this
07:58indie demo series.
07:59If they can polish out some of the performance and mechanical issues.
08:03Maybe add in some more tasks outside of just the pictures and sample collection.
08:07It could end up being an interesting experience.
08:09The demo is available on Steam right now so if you're interested in it there's nothing holding you back from
08:14giving it a try.
08:15I'll probably keep an eye on this one as well.
08:17If there's an updated or new demo that comes out I wouldn't mind revisiting it and see where it goes
08:22from there.
08:23Like I said I think they've got the core of something here so if they just flesh things out a
08:27little bit they might have something.
08:29Hopefully this video was helpful or interesting and if it was likes help out a lot as well as consider
08:35subscribing.
08:35This is a relatively new series on the channel but I do plan to keep it going so if you're
08:40interested in what's coming out this could be helpful to keep you up to date.
08:44I've also got a bunch of other game reviews and older game retrospectives and just a variety of other gaming
08:48content so definitely check out the channel.
08:51Thanks so much for taking the time to watch today and until next time take care.
09:16I'll see you next time.
