00:08the obligatory DLSS 5 video this video is coming directly as a request from a friend of the channel
00:15so if this is your first time hearing of the DLSS 5 or NVIDIA controversy I really greatly applaud
00:22your ability to stay firmly touching grass this one's been all over the internet everybody's
00:27been talking about it most people have a certain opinion on it but we'll get into that so if you've
00:34been following some of the NVIDIA drama in the last little while anyway then you may have heard
00:40that they've been pivoting their entire business model towards the ensplopification of the internet
00:46and presumably the ensplopification of the world all of this of course has been leaving gamers to
00:52feel kind of left out and concerned about the future so with that said Jensen Huang the CEO of
00:59NVIDIA announced at the GTC or GPU technology conference in 2026 what he called a GPT moment
01:07for graphics well today I'm going to show you something of the future this is our next generation
01:13of graphics technology this is DLSS 5 take a look at it this of course being DLSS 5 and with
01:21that they
01:21showed a bunch of videos showcasing their technology and what it does and then the internet responded
01:27and basically my response to it all is pretty much the same as the sort of general reaction to it
01:35to
01:35me it looks like an AI slop filter by that I mean it just gives games that weird sort of
01:42it's going for
01:43that hyper realism AI look or I guess it's not maybe supposed to look specifically AI but that's how it
01:49ends
01:49up looking it has that weird sort of uncanny I don't even know how to put it into words but
01:57you
01:57know it when you see it it's that weird AI video look and you've probably seen a lot of this
02:02like
02:02there's tons of videos on YouTube there's videos on all kinds of social media platforms right now
02:08and it's just full of this AI slop video and since NVIDIA has been pivoting their business model towards
02:15AI slop it's kind of no surprise that they've come out with something like this like them along with
02:21a ton of other tech companies have just been putting billions of dollars into this slop tech
02:27and they're trying to get something out of it right they're trying to monetize it in some way
02:31they're trying to get a return on their investment so of course we're seeing all these new technologies
02:36or supposed new technologies that are just AI slop infused into existing things and aside from the
02:43fact that I just personally don't like the look of AI slop videos there's also the fact that what this
02:51is doing is it's sort of overriding the game developers initial sort of idea or vision or passion
03:00or whatever they put into it basically the art direction that they had for a particular game
03:04and you might ask yourself like how is this different from say the Oblivion remaster that came out
03:10with the Unreal Engine and how that kind of changed things up right I can kind of see a comparison
03:17there because a lot of people were upset about the Oblivion remaster I didn't really understand it
03:22but it was taking a step towards that more hyper realism look taking away from that fantasy look
03:28and the original sort of artistic direction of the game so the big difference that I see between this
03:34and that Oblivion remaster is the Oblivion remaster whatever you think about it whether you liked it or not
03:40that was done by the company or contracted out by the company they had a specific look or style or
03:49direction
03:50that they wanted to move their game in and they went that way they did the remaster or the remake
03:56or whatever
03:57you want to call it basically it was the company making a decision for their product to use a certain
04:05style the big difference here is game devs have no say in this it's not even taking a specific art
04:15direction right so what it's doing is it's just slapping this filter generally across all graphics that
04:22you're going to see at least when they do a remaster or remake using something like Unreal it's using a
04:30consistent sort of artistic direction and applying that across the game across the board I've seen
04:36examples with this where they use this DLSS 5 and in one scene you'll see a particular character and
04:45then another scene they look like a totally different character because using these filters you can't
04:50really get a specific look you're going to get whatever you get right and not only that it seems
04:56very presumptuous of Nvidia to just decide okay well the game dev their particular artistic direction is
05:04wrong we know better this is the the way the game should look or the way we think the game
05:09should
05:09look and they just slap this filter on it and I think that's just terrible that is a horrible mindset
05:15to have apparently Ubisoft is one of the only companies that I've heard that actually is excited
05:22or supports this in any way and honestly that makes sense for Ubisoft they're usually taking the horrible
05:28decision or the horrible side in a debate or cultural choice so if they can spend less on developing
05:35their own graphics and instead just using AI I'm sure they're thrilled about that other companies that
05:41really do care about their products and have passion for it clearly are against this and don't support
05:47it at all and are not happy with the way that their games were showcased and yeah I think that's
05:53totally understandable I would be upset too like you can't just take someone's work and then slap your
05:59filter on it and present that to the world as your new product well I guess they did but you
06:04shouldn't be
06:05doing that I think if this was something that was made as like a mod or something I get it
06:11but this
06:11is a product that they're trying to use to basically sell their company and sell their products and in
06:18that instance I think this is definitely the wrong way to go about it obviously I have made it clear
06:23I
06:24don't like the product in general but I also think that this whole style or this whole method that they
06:30use to introduce it was wrong so anyway there was all kinds of criticism it wasn't just me obviously
06:36a bunch of people don't like this a bunch of people don't want it and the internet basically voiced
06:41their total rejection and disgust with this and instead of listening to the people of course Jensen
06:47the CEO of Nvidia basically just doubled down he said that the gamers and the devs are completely wrong
06:56he also said that this doesn't change the artistic control of the developers so basically what he
07:03claimed was that what this does is it adds photoreal lighting and materials and that it's not actually
07:09changing the original intended artistic style of the game so he also says that developers can fine-tune
07:16the generative AI to make it match their game's visual style and so for these reasons he claims that it
07:23doesn't change the artistic control of the developer the thing is there's a lot of developers that don't
07:28want to use this kind of slop they want to make their own games and they want to have the
07:34artistic
07:34control from the ground up and they don't want to just paint over that with some AI slop filter and
07:41the thing is when you actually see the demo of it when you see how this technology is used and
07:47when it's
07:47applied to games now it definitely does change the artistic style of the game you would think that
07:53for their demo for their showcase they would have fine-tuned it if they wanted to claim this that they
07:58would have actually taken the time and tried to produce something that didn't completely change the
08:04artistic style but instead they just produced and put out this video that shows games where they're
08:11almost unrecognizable from their original artistic presentation jensen also keeps claiming and
08:18insisting that it's not an AI filter it's not a filter he says but other youtubers other places have
08:24actually looked into this a little bit more and actually contacted nvidia there was another video
08:31talking about this and i'll make sure that there's a link in the description or something but basically
08:36from what they've found or what they've uncovered it it is it's a filter it's just an AI slop filter
08:42it's like a snapchat filter or whatever you want to use it's a filter and yeah it looks like the
08:49internet the entire internet the world basically right now is heading towards complete and total
08:55and slopification but at the same time most people seem to really not like this and they don't like this
09:01direction there's a couple of people that i've seen who do seem to like it um it seems like there's
09:08always sort of a small group of people who just love anything AI or AI related and so yeah so
09:17they
09:17see this as an actual upgrade and new development but personally i just find the whole AI look to be
09:23super uncanny and just not visually pleasing in any way but who knows maybe you have a different
09:31opinion on this let me know down in the comments your thoughts are you excited about this are you
09:36cautiously optimistic about this do you have kind of the same general opinion that i and pretty much
09:44i don't know i'd say at least if i'm being very conservative 80% of people 80% of gamers
09:50seem to have
09:51kind of a negative attitude towards this right out of the gate but who knows i always like to hear
09:56where
09:57my audience is at and what your opinions are on this and if you like where this direction is going
10:03or if you're totally against it either way let me know down in the comments thank you so much for
10:09taking the time to watch today and until next time take care
10:20you
10:28you
