00:00this was a good field uh yeah the John Deere class like there was a lot of great players that
00:04played you know guys that um that didn't have to be there to play like the guy who won the
00:09golf tournament for example Chris Goddard didn't have to be there but he likes the golf course he
00:14wants to support an event um you know that he's played since uh his beginning uh on the PGA Tour
00:20so I I you know it's it's interesting I was reading something that Kyle Porter posted about
00:27just small markets and how the PGA Tour is looking to go to big markets and how he's a little
00:32bit unconvinced about the business model of the PGA Tour and whether it's going to land you know
00:38going to all these big markets and if you have the crowds if you have the buzz if it if
00:42there's a sense
00:43of you know just how a how a fan can interact and and just get a sense of like that
00:52the people there
00:52care about the event like they take pride in it you know I think people that go to the John
00:57Deere
00:57Classic I've played in it and can tell you and can speak to it that the fans show up and
01:03they love
01:04being there they love supporting that event they come from all around the Midwest to go to that event
01:08it's one of the few you know events that we have on the PGA Tour in that that general area
01:13so that that's
01:15like the big question to me it's like you have you know the PGA Tour making these like pretty
01:23big changes and decisions in a boardroom and sometimes like you don't get a sense from the
01:29players of what actually takes place at these events like which events like really you know hit
01:36like hit you deep hit you to where it feels like you never want to miss the event like I
01:40don't think
01:40Chris Goddard ever wants to miss the John Deere Classic I think he really truly likes the golf
01:45course likes the area likes the people and wants to support it and that's like the the area that
01:50we're kind of moving towards now which is that you won't get these guys playing these events because
01:56they're forced to play you know these big events that they're showing up in LA and whether it's going
02:01to be Riviera or not or these other big cities that have golf courses that is going to be too
02:06much
02:06hospitality like I don't know um but that that's you know that's the big question that we're kind
02:13of entering into right now with all this well even as I say all that I said to you this
02:18up about it
02:18being a great profile for a top tier challenger series event you know none of these none of these
02:24are necessarily perfect fits right like to your point Chris Goddard is the you know poster child
02:31example for the guy that wants to play the lower tier event and now is being barred from doing so
02:36if he's participating in the championship series right and and so that's going to be a tough pill
02:41to swallow you know when when this whole sort of two-tier system first was being reported on
02:47one of the reports around this event was like that it was being asked to move to a larger Chicago
02:53proper
02:53market and and saying like that is everything that's wrong what we're trying to do here it's like
02:58why would we go away from a highly successful market and a place that you know people really come out
03:04and there there are quirks about it you know you can you can play around the tractors you know so
03:09how Tong talking about being on the digger early in the week which is you know was delightful and
03:14Ricky Fowler out there with his kids and dragging around the little mini John Deere tractors like
03:19there is a charm of some of these small town events that if you just try to make them all
03:24big market
03:25events you lose what the event is all about now that having been said you look at the rest of
03:30the field
03:31this week and I know Jackson Coyven missed the you know the cut this week but you had Jackson Coyven
03:35in the field you had uh Blades Brown in contention Preston Stout in contention like those are all
03:41things where I'm like yes if this is if this event in a couple years is you know fast forward
03:46to whoever
03:46the the next Jackson Coyven Preston Stout and Blades Brown is going to be and those guys are the ones
03:51duking it out down the stretch absolutely I'm tuned in and I'm enjoying the chance to see those guys shine
03:57and and and you know have a chance to kind of play their way into these bigger events or just
04:01at least
04:01make their name known and getting that exposure on network television not competing with a championship
04:07series event but it's it's there are shades of gray to all this you know it makes it tough where
04:11you're like
04:12you are going to miss out on guys that like Chris Godrup really want to go and support the event
04:16and are being
04:16told they cannot do that
