00:00The Suikoden series always offers a challenge to players, especially when it comes to the
00:05boss battles.
00:06They sometimes are unfair when it comes to the mechanics, to emotional depth, or even
00:11both.
00:12After collecting response on the toughest boss battles across the entire series, a clear
00:17ranking has been made up.
00:19Not just the difficulty level, but also what kind of suffering each boss brings to the
00:24table.
00:24This is Amethyst ADV and here are the top 10 hardest Suikoden boss battles, ranked from
00:32least to the most brutal.
00:35Number 10.
00:37The final mercenary battle in Suikoden Tactics.
00:40The tactical pressure to plan out your characters is a headache in itself.
00:46This battle punishes poor positioning of your characters and planning mistakes.
00:50This feels more like an exam in strategic coordination rather than a boss fight.
00:57If you're not thinking ahead and playing this like it's chess, it snowballs fast into
01:02the screen at the end that they call defeat.
01:06Do you want to try again?
01:09Number 9.
01:10The giant tree in Suikoden IV.
01:13This final boss battle forces you to engage all the game systems in the right order.
01:18Without the proper unite attacks like Snow and Laszlo, a great party setup and choices in
01:25a specific fight, this is difficult to disproportionate levels.
01:29With some preparation it's absolutely doable, but without it you're almost certainly doomed.
01:36Especially when those leaves turn white, strap yourselves into defense mode and just hope
01:42for the best without seeing it's game over.
01:46Number 8.
01:46The Bone Dragon in Suikoden II.
01:49The Bone Dragon is still one of the most difficult boss battles despite being overshadowed by the
01:54Beastruin and Luca Blyte battles.
01:57It's a mid to late game difficulty spike that punish parties that have not been leveled properly.
02:02It's not the hardest if you take it apart, but it's considered, damn this was hard, many
02:08times in history.
02:10The liberating Green Hill story arc is difficult in itself with facing Lucia and the Bone Dragon
02:16almost one after another with some minor skirmishes in between.
02:20That is why it is ranked number 8 in this top 10 list.
02:25Number 7.
02:26The Sunrun incarnation in Suikoden V. This is a demanding but controlled endgame boss
02:34battle.
02:35Players generally rated it a 7 out of 10 difficulty, noting that failing it usually comes from
02:41mismanaging your resources.
02:43It's a tough but fair fight, with low unpredictability.
02:48It's one of the easier endgame boss battles of the series thereof, and thus in this top
02:5410 list it ranks no higher than 7th position.
02:58Use your resources wisely and take out the Sunrun incarnation for once and for all.
03:06Number 6.
03:07The Zombie Dragon in Suikoden I.
03:09This is one of the classic early boss battles of the series that catches players off guard.
03:15The dragon casts party white damage most of the times, while your healing resources are
03:20limited at that early stage of the game.
03:22If the pendulum of RNG swings the wrong way, it spirals into annihilation for your party.
03:30I've had difficulties with this boss myself too many times, so no wonder that players ranked
03:36this as difficult.
03:37Therefore, it ranks at number 6 in this top 10 of hardest boss battles in the Suikoden series.
03:43Coming in hot at number 5, it's the Beast Rune incarnation of Suikoden II.
03:49The final boss battle is difficult, I have to admit, as with anything, preparation is the key.
03:55Make sure your characters are properly levelled throughout the castle of El Renui.
04:00Get yourself some melee damages and magicians that can do both damage and have healing qualities.
04:06There are many parties to go with, though many choose for the easier routes with characters
04:11like Mazus, Luke and Tengar for example.
04:14With these quick things, the Beast Rune will die at your hands and the city states are safe for good.
04:20Number 5.
04:20The Beast Rune incarnation.
04:24Number 4.
04:26Pawn vs Tio in Suikoden I.
04:28One of the most emotional battles in the series must be Pawn vs Tio, Apprentice vs Master.
04:36How you use the small time frame of availability of Pawn to level and equip him decides the outcome.
04:43Players rate this battle an 8 out of 10 difficulty on average, based on Pawn's build and how familiar
04:49they get with the dual system. Without a good defence stat, Pawn's dead in the water.
04:54The real challenge lies in the psychology of the battle, as it now lies in the players to re-dialogue
04:59and plan the strategy for that. And with that, we're coming into our top 3.
05:04It's time for the first podium finisher with number 3.
05:08The Water Dragon in Suikoden 3.
05:11You cannot go into Suikoden 3 boss battles unprepared, that's for sure.
05:16The Water Dragon is one of them. The shard based or party wide damages
05:21generates constant pressure to keep the party alive.
05:24Your healing winners are tight throughout the battle with this new battle system working in geos,
05:30and one mistake might just cost you the livelihood of all party members and starting anew.
05:35Some fans give it a 10 out of 10 difficulty level, and thus the Water Dragon deserves spot number 3.
05:42You tackle it best by just keeping your party members up and running, boosting their defence
05:47stats with the Urt rune, or just trying to keep them alive in any way possible by using the simple
05:54tactic called defence. The Water Dragon is just not that, but one more Suikoden 3 boss battle deserves the
06:01silver medal coming up next.
06:04Number 2. The Wind Rune incarnation in Suikoden 3.
06:09The Water Dragon is chaos, but the Wind Rune is summoned by Luke, and this incarnation is a suffocating
06:15end boss. The rune applies multi-person damage, and the speed often denies meaningful turns from your
06:22party members. Even with optimised equipment, it's still described by many players consistently as
06:29overwhelming. This doesn't even hit us hard, it's just that you get no chance to play your turns as
06:36well. With ratings consistently being a 10 out of 10, the silver medal has to go to the Wind Rune
06:43incarnation
06:44as the second strongest boss battle in Suikoden history. Luke in the end.
06:51Well, what can we say? From trailblazer to hero to antagonist deluxe. Before we go to our gold medalist at
07:00number one, let's hear it for another honourable mention, being Auntie Sialids in Suikoden 5. Her ulterior
07:10motive was to keep everyone alive that she held dear, and for that she needed to betray the family using
07:17the
07:18Twilight Rune. Because of her own personal sacrifice to keep her family safe in the end. This is why Sialids
07:26deserves the honourable mention. Now it's time for our number one hardest boss battle. Number one,
07:35Luka Blight in Suikoden 2. There could only be one victor in this boss battle top 10. See what I
07:43did there?
07:45The boss battle of Luka Blight is the most iconic difficulty spike in the series history. Not just
07:52because of the stats needed to beat him, but also due to the structure. You need multiple parties at
07:58the ready to fight him, shifting perspective and a final duel that turns this victory into a psychological
08:05test. The difficulty in itself is mostly rated 7 to 8 out of 10, but it's the design of the
08:13battle and
08:14the multi-phased fight that pushes him above anything else. Even when you finally manage to defeat the
08:21epitome of evil one on one, the fight still continues as the war is not over. That's what makes Luka
08:29Blight the
08:30most brutally hard boss battle of the Suikoden series on top of his purely evil characteristics.
