00:04okay so for our next segment our next segment is called beauty university i don't know about
00:11you guys but i am a makeup lover and we are about to dive in into a makeup master class
00:17a classic brown eye is one of the most wearable and flattering eye looks if you know you know
00:25okay and so in this master class celebrity makeup artist kenya alexis pulls back the curtains on
00:33the artistry behind her signature look so please help me welcome miss kenya alexis
00:42hi hi guys how are you guys feeling today i'm so happy to be with you guys this is my
00:51beautiful
00:52model jen say hi jen so today i'm going to be teaching you the look i do the most which
01:02is
01:02a brown smoky eye so i actually already did her base off like behind there so we're just going
01:09going to start with the eyes
01:22okay
01:33i'm going to scoot your chair over just a little bit okay there you go okay
01:42okay so when i first started with a brown smoky eye i want to make sure that i'm giving myself
01:48a good
01:48eye base to go off of so first i'm going to take her highlight shade in the concealer
01:58and i'm just going to highlight her brow bone
02:05so i'm just going to take a little bit of the product on the end of the brush
02:10and we're just going to clean up her brow
02:12she already has such pretty brows so i'm just going to follow her natural arch
02:33now i'm going to do the other side
02:39and for this part i don't like to have too much product on my brush because
02:45i don't want the line to be too too harsh
02:48and i don't want it to have a build of a product either
02:56then i'm going to go in with the concealer that's closer to her skin shape
03:03to blend out the corners so that the light concealer
03:11doesn't make anything
03:15look too light so i'm gonna put the darker concealer
03:20in the front of her brow and then just blend it out
03:27then i'm going to go on the other side
03:47then i'm going to take this dense brush from morphe the m173
03:52and i'm just going to blend out all that concealer i put down
04:10okay now that i've done that for my eyeshadow base i'm going to be using
04:16the p louise base it's one of my favorites i pretty much use it for all of my eyeshadow looks
04:26you can use a skin color shade for this or you can use a darker shade since we're already doing
04:30a brown smoky eye
04:34but i'm just going to use a skin color shade
04:42and you really want to make sure that you're buffing out all the lines so that there's nothing
04:48harsh on the face that could mess up what we've already done
05:14okay
05:15okay
05:26okay so now that her eyeshadow base is all blended out i'm going to go in with the danessa myricks
05:32this is her freedom palette
05:35and i'm going with this brown shade right here and that's going to be the base of her
05:39brown smoky eye
05:42so when i'm doing a smoky eye
05:46i like to make sure that um
05:52you want to make sure you take all of the extra product off the brush because what's that what's
05:57that going to do is that it's going to prevent fallout so you want to make sure that you tap
06:01your brush
06:03and then i just like to kind of pack it on first before i swirl my brush
06:09so i'm just gonna gently pack it on her lid
06:21what brush
06:23what brush
06:48and i'm just going to keep building it until it's to my liking
06:58and i like to bring it out a little bit to kind of like wing the shape a bit so
07:03i'm just kind of
07:04blending it out but i'm not going to add any more product to my brush because i want it to
07:08be a seamless
07:09transition and i don't want it to be too harsh
07:24and i'm also going to bring the brown to her brow bone a little bit in the front
07:32because this is going to give it a really natural transition to her nose contour so
07:43i'm just going to literally keep building up the shade until
07:48i feel like i can't anymore
08:05okay now i'm going to go on with the juvia's place chocolate palette
08:10and i'm going to take
08:13a smaller brush this is a morphe m506 and i'm going to go in with a deeper shade
08:21i'm going between these two shades and this is what i'm going to put in the corner of her eye
08:26to
08:26further smoke it out
08:42and this is just going to add a lot of depth to her eyes so that it's not just like
08:46one dimensional
08:50turn a little bit that way
09:03one tip is to try to hold your brush don't hold it too close to where the bristles are try
09:09to hold it
09:10a little further away because it's going to let the brush really do the work versus
09:15your hand doing the work so if you want your brush to do the work for you just try to
09:19hold it
09:19a little further away it's also going to help you blend easier turn to the right
09:36okay let me see okay now i'm going to take this brown shade and it's kind of a middle color
09:44from
09:45the two colors we've used already so i'm just going to kind of place it in the middle for lit
09:49just to deepen it more
10:03what shade is it it's the chocolate brown shade in the palette i'm not sure the exact name
10:19okay
10:20okay so now i'm gonna before i do the liner i like to smoke out the bottom too
10:25so we're going to go on with that first shade that i use the brown look up
10:39and then i'm just going to place this as close as i can
10:43to her water line without you know getting it all in her eye
10:47okay and we're just going to smoke this out and i just kind of go in like back and forth
10:53motions
11:01and i'm going to go in on the other side
11:09and i'm going to go in on the other side
11:24and i'm taking this all the way to her outer corner where we place the shadow at the top
11:33then i'm going to go in with this
11:35two 97 p louise brush it's just like a dense short brush and we're gonna uh we're gonna use the
11:45same
11:45shade and we're just gonna smoke it out because it's a bigger brush it's gonna blend the product out more
12:03we'll just keep blending
12:15then i'm gonna go in with a skin shade foundation powder
12:21which is like a little hack for me it's like if you ever feel like something's not blending out to
12:26the color that you want it to you can always take like a skin tone shade which it matches her
12:31skin
12:31tone pretty well and this is just going to help diffuse anything that you may feel is too harsh
12:38on the face
12:41and you know it'll look good because it's their skin color turn this way a little bit
12:50so i always like to keep a lot of skin tone shade powders in my kit just in case i
12:55need to do
12:56something corrective so now i'm going to go on with a m504 brush and i'm going to take that same
13:04foundation powder to further blend out her brow bone because we don't want to have any harsh lines
13:11from what we did earlier and this is just going to really ensure that everything is perfectly blended
13:17and you can also since it's a skin tone shade you can also bring it down to the brow bone
13:23so that everything is just like blending together
13:28and i'm going to do the same thing on this side
13:40look at me okay okay so now we're going to go in with some liner
13:51i'm going to be using the matte color access and this is their glider dye liner
13:58i really like this liner a lot i use it pretty much on all my clients
14:05and i like it because it really it still blends out well but it really is waterproof
14:12clothes so i'm just gonna take this on her water not her waterline i'm gonna take this
14:19right by her lashes and i'm basically like scratching her lashes with the liner to like really get in
14:26there because i find if you just go one direction with your liner you might miss a few gaps
14:34especially with the pencil so i like to just go back and forth with it then i'm going to take
14:43that
14:43same brush i use to blend out the bottom and i'm just going to do the same motion on the
14:49top
14:50it's like a it's almost like you're itching with the brush and since i want this movement to be more
14:56controlled i'm holding the brush closer to the front of the to the where the bristles are
15:08look straight and i really like doing
15:14a gel or a pencil liner sometimes because i feel like it just really helps
15:20that smoky look looks so diffused and effortless i still obviously use like a liquid liner from time
15:27to time but i find that the smoky look in my opinion looks really good with a smoked out liner
15:36as well
15:39and now i'm just doing the same thing on the other side
16:05and i'm also purposely trying not to bring it up too high because i'm gonna smoke it out anyway
16:12so you don't want to make the line too thick and then you have nowhere to blend out
16:23and if you're ever scared about the fallout if you've already done your face you can always put
16:29a light layer of setting powder down first to help prevent the fallout from disturbing your base
16:51so
17:02so
17:24Look straight, look down.
17:41And if you're doing someone else's makeup, don't be afraid to lift their lid a little
17:46bit to really ensure that you're getting close to that lash line, because that's going
17:52to help when you're putting on the lashes to make sure it's no gap.
18:00Look at me.
18:07I'm going to take another one of those brushes, but this one's clean.
18:13And then I'm going to take a brown liner for the bottom.
18:17This is the Make Up Forever Water, waterproof eyeliner.
18:26And this is their dark brown shade, look up.
18:32And I'm just going to take this into her waterline.
18:36I like to put the brown down first before I do black, because it's just going to help
18:42it blend better.
18:46And feel free to always leave it with just brown liner too.
18:49You don't have to wear black if you're scared that it might be a little too harsh.
18:59You can still do the same look with the brown.
19:03But there you go.
19:31And then I'm going to take it down.
19:33going to take the black liner that I used, look up, and I'm just going to put it in the
19:39corner. So I'm not going to bring it all the way in, but if that's your preference, feel
19:50free. It looks great both ways. So now I'm just going to take a little bit of setting
19:59powder, and I'm just going to sweep away, look up all the little bits that may have fallen
20:09down. This is the Huda Beauty setting powder in Banana Bread. But my favorites are Huda
20:28and one size. If you have drier skin, I really like the Makeup by Mario one as well. Right
20:39now I'm just going in and doing any additional blending that I think is necessary. Okay, look
20:54I'm going to do a lash. Let me see. And for the lashes, I'm going to be taking Lily Lashes
21:15in the style Wildchild. These are actually half lashes, but they're so cute.
21:46You can use whatever glue that works for you. I use the duo glue, but I'm not super picky
21:52about the glue. Okay, let me see. And so while the glue is drying, I'm going to go in with
22:02her bronzer in the shade 460. It's the Fenty Beauty foundation powder, but I like to use
22:09foundation powders as bronzers because I feel like they just have a lot of coverage. And
22:16it's really buildable if you're into a very bronzy look like myself. And this is really
22:30just going to add a lot of depth to her face. And then I'm going to go in with a
22:40blush, Juvia's
22:41place. And this is volume five. And I'm going to go in with the lighter pink. And I'm just
22:48going to add a little bit more blush. Look up. So I like to keep the blush pretty high on
22:56the face on the tops of her cheeks. And then I'm just going to bring it into her eye a
23:04little
23:04bit more. And this is obviously a preference thing. You know, if you like it to be more
23:11subtle, then you can still use the same techniques, just have a lighter hand. And I like to put
23:19a little bit of blush on the nose just to kind of give like a baby doll effect. And I
23:29just
23:29kind of like sweep it in towards the eye to really give it like that seamless look. And
23:39then I'm going to take another foundation powder in the color of her highlight shade. And I'm
23:43just going to look up. I'm just going to tap that in the space where I didn't put the blush.
23:50And
23:50then if you ever feel like you put too much blush, you can always take a highlight powder
23:57that matches the under eye and just kind of tone it down a little bit.
24:04And sometimes, you know, you may get a little heavy handed, but you can always fix it later.
24:10Okay. So now I'm just going to pop her lashes on. Look down. Look at me.
24:34Look at me. Okay. Now I'm just going to take some mascara.
24:53I'm going to take it on the disposable wand. Look down. If you would like to hold your
25:00client's eye, then I'll just take a powder puff and just kind of hold their eye.
25:10Okay. Sometimes I'll take the back of the spoolie. If I'm trying to like get extra mascara off,
25:24look straight. Look down. Now I'm just doing the same on the other.
25:51And since I'm doing a half lash, I'm going to focus the mascara on her actual lashes so that
25:59it blends in better. You really want to make sure you're getting those front lashes whenever you have on half
26:10lashes.
26:11Look down. Okay. Look up. Look all the way up. And so for the bottom, you just want to be
26:25really gentle
26:26because you don't want to make the client tear up. So I try to just be very gentle and just
26:34kind of itch at the lashes with my brush.
26:40Excuse me. Okay. So that's good. Then I'm just going to take a color from my Dior quad. It's their
26:55highlighting palette.
26:56And I'm going to take the champagne shade and I'm just going to hit her inner corner.
27:16Just to add a little pop. Then I'm going to take that same brush and I'm going to go and
27:25do her nose highlight.
27:27And I like a very, this is all personal preference, but I like a really precise nose highlight.
27:33So I like going in with a really tiny brush to really give that like baby doll effect.
27:39And then if it's too harsh, I'll just go in with my hand and just kind of like pat it
27:43in.
27:46And then I'm going to take this Morphe M510 brush and I'm going to do her highlighter. So turn that
27:54way a little bit.
27:55And I'm going to take that same champagne shade, but I'm going to mix it with the pink shade.
28:00And I'm just going to do the high points of her cheeks. Turn a little bit more.
28:10And I do like a bit of a dramatic highlighter. So I do go a little heavy, but it's all
28:22personal preference.
28:30Look straight. And sometimes I'll bring the highlighter down to my client's shoulders to really make that shine.
28:53And then to really make her highlighter pop even more, I'm going to go in with the Mary Leah Scott
29:04blush in the color pop.
29:09And what I'll do is I'll take this on the back of my hand and I'll put a good amount
29:16down and I take the back of my beauty blender and I just tap it in.
29:24Turn that way. And I just tap the tops of my cheeks. Oh, not my, well, of my clients. Turn
29:33this way.
29:35And this is really going to add like a really, turn your head side to side.
29:43It just really adds to the glow if you can see it. And then if you really want to be
29:49extra, I'll do the same thing on her shoulders to make her collarbone pop.
30:06And then I'm going to do her lip and we'll be done. So I'm going to take the color pop
30:12liner and the color control. I really love this liner because it's so good.
30:19It's like a really nice chocolate brown. It's comparable to like chestnut, but it's only like, I think it's less
30:25than $10.
30:27So I love that because since my clients always love like to keep the lip, it doesn't make me feel
30:36so bad that I'm losing like, you know, a really expensive lip liner. So love color pop for that.
30:52Okay. And I do prefer to overline, but I always ask my client what's their preference first, which you know,
31:00to each it's own. Turn this way a little bit.
31:06Whenever I'm over lining, I like to overline mainly in the, by the cubit's bow. I don't really like to
31:16extend the corners of the mouth.
31:18Cause it can give like a weird appearance, but if you overline at the top, it's more pouty.
31:43Okay.
31:44Okay. Patch your lips for me.
31:51And then I'm going to go on with the Edom lip gloss in the shade Sakura. I hope I'm saying
31:59that right.
32:01It's their pinky shade. I'm going to show you guys so that you see.
32:10So you see, it's a really pretty color pink.
32:13And I'm just going to go in the center. Patch your lips.
32:18And we're just going to build this up.
32:30Patch your lips.
32:44I'm going to fill in her brow just a little bit more with the brow is dark brown from Anastasia.
32:51Turn that way.
32:59Just to define them a little more.
33:02Just to define them a little more.
33:20Just to define them a little more.
33:22Sorry if I'm blocking. I'm moving one second.
33:26Okay.
33:57Okay.
33:57Turn that way.
33:59Turn the other way.
34:01Okay, guys.
34:02I'm going to set her and then we will be done.
34:06So I'm going to take the, oh, here it is.
34:11I'm going to take the Charlotte Tilbury spray.
34:19Close.
34:21I always like to block their eyes when I spray.
34:26I'm just going to get her the fan.
34:42And we guys, well, we're all done, guys.
34:46Thank you so much.
34:48I hope you guys learned anything.
34:50Does anybody have any questions?
34:52Anybody?
34:53You have a question?
34:59Okay.
35:04So for her complexion, I use the Hourglass foundation, their stick foundation in the color of 14.5.
35:13And then for concealer, I use the Pat McGrath concealer.
35:19And I also use the Charlotte Tilbury concealer.
35:21I'll show you.
35:25So it's these two brands.
35:27So this is the Pat McGrath and then this is the Charlotte Tilbury.
35:30And I used a few different shades, but those are my two favorites and Too Faced.
35:34I love Too Faced concealer.
35:35And for her liquid blush, I used Pink Lady from Juvia's Place.
35:44And then I also used Red Velvet from Danessa.
35:50So these are what I used for the base of her brush.
35:53And then I went on top with the Juvia's Place powder.
35:57So I normally do a cream and a liquid.
36:00Or I do, I normally do a powder and a liquid or a cream and a liquid.
36:03And sometimes I use all three.
36:04So does anybody else have any other questions?
36:08Okay.
36:09Thank you guys so much.
36:10I had such a good time.
36:12I hope you guys learned something.
36:13Do you guys see a difference?
36:15Okay.
36:16Okay.
36:16Good.
36:17Okay.
36:18Thank you guys.
36:20Yes.
36:37Bye.
36:38Bye.
