00:00The following is brought to you by L'Oreal, Maybelline, and Garnier.
00:11It's that time of year again. The time when all our brothers, sisters, nieces, cousins,
00:18sons, and daughters transform before our eyes into dashing gents and stately young women.
00:25It's grad season, and I'm here with Miss Jenny Johnson of Uniquely You Bridal Atelier.
00:31Miss Johnson, thank you so much for having us today.
00:34You're welcome. Thank you for having me.
00:36And tell me, how has the 2026 grad season been shaping up?
00:40This year, it's been amazing so far.
00:44I transitioned from numbers to more quality.
00:47It's just taken an opportunity to design some more unique pieces,
00:51and I must say the girlies are super excited for what it is we've been coming up with thus far.
00:57And what are the trends now?
00:58Because back in my time, you know, you had a satin dress, two straps, and you went about your week.
01:04Oh, I think we still do the satin dresses.
01:07I mean, the girls will get their satin dresses if that's their option,
01:11but most of the girls, they are into the blinks, they are into the corset, you know.
01:15They're watching all these Nigerian pieces and then these pieces coming out of the U.S. from these designers.
01:20And they have just been taking it next level.
01:23I'm talking sequins, I'm talking pearls, I'm talking gems, I'm talking lace.
01:29It's a crazy scene.
01:31And I'm sure we're talking some money as well because I've been seeing the conversation every year.
01:36Prices just keep going up.
01:38The prices is...
01:38Especially for the girls.
01:39Yes, the prices is going up, and that's because the materials itself is very costly.
01:45Not just in terms of what it costs, but in terms of bringing in the materials.
01:51What kind of costs are we talking about?
01:54It definitely depends on what it is they're looking at.
01:58My dresses for grad range between $4,500, and it has gone as high as $10,000.
02:05Very tedious work.
02:06You would say, like, how long would it take you to create something of this nature with one of the
02:12hand detailing?
02:13For grad season, there's no timing.
02:16In terms of we are pushing out on average, let's say, 70 to 100 dresses in two to three months.
02:24So I would turn around time on our dresses on average two to three days.
02:28Because I noticed that a lot of the girls moved away from colors.
02:32So we find a lot of silvers.
02:35We found a lot of gold.
02:36We have a few rose gold in between.
02:38And it's mostly lace, and it's mostly like a nude or almost see-through undertone,
02:45where it gives the illusion that there's nothing under there.
02:47Of course, there's lining under there, but it gives you that illusion.
02:50Previous years, we would have had the fuchsia pinks.
02:54We would have had the emerald greens.
02:56We would have had a lot of electric blues.
02:58But this year, silver and gold has been making a way.
03:03Now, my girlies who have boys, they are like, what are you doing for the boys?
03:07I have a boy.
03:08What are you doing for the boys?
03:09So this year, we took that step further and said, you know what?
03:12We're going to give the boys an opportunity.
03:14Isn't that the boys want some bedazzle too, right?
03:16Of course, yes.
03:17They definitely want some bedazzle this year, and we are having so much fun with it.
03:22Ms. Johnson, thank you so much.
03:23It was a pleasure having you.
03:25Oh, it was a pleasure.
03:27And as usual, I am Renessa Cutting, and this was Street Style.
03:31I'll see you all again next week, Thursday.
