Marcos: PH, Canada elevate ties to strategic partnership

The Philippines and Canada agree to enhance their partnership by elevating their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership that will deepen defense and economic cooperation. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made the announcement following his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the Vancouver Convention Center Thursday (Friday in Manila).

00:54I look forward to discussing more opportunities for deeper commercial ties between our two countries.
01:01Prime Minister Kanye and I reaffirmed our commitment to conclude the negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement this year,
01:09as we also negotiate the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement.
01:13We renewed our commitment to increase our bilateral trade, stand against economic coercion, and build a resilient supply chain.
01:22We are pleased to witness the signing of the Joint Declaration of Intent on Energy and Natural Resources Cooperation.
01:31Before I return home, I will meet with the Filipino community.
01:35I am glad to see and hear from our Canadian friends that the one million strong Filipinos in Canada
01:41are valued and respected for their contributions to the Canadian society, the economy, and government.
01:49They serve as a heart and soul of the strategic partnership between the Philippines and of Canada.
01:55To unleash this full potential, it is essential that Filipino professionals are able to practice their professions in Canada.
02:04In this regard, we will convey our hope that Canada's federal and provincial governments will continue working together
02:11to address the barriers to the recognition of the credentials of Philippine-educated professions.
02:17I am also glad to have witnessed today the signing of bilateral understandings and declarations of cooperation
02:24in the areas of tourism, culture, and labor and migration.
02:28These agreements will help us harness the strong people-to-people ties between our two countries
02:35as we jointly build capacities and create a mutually beneficial talent pipeline for the future.
02:42I would like to thank Prime Minister Connolly and the members of the delegation
