If you think your energy bill is already too high tonight there's more bad news. The cost of utilities in the territory is increasing by more than five per cent leading to fears pensioners will suffer the territory heat without air conditioning.

00:02Heading home to face higher bills. Territorians hit with a 5.3% increase for power, water and sewage.
00:12And with the cost of living crisis, it's going to really hit every Territorian very hard.
00:18The price hike larger than last year's 3% increase because of a higher inflation forecast in May's budget.
00:26If you look at a 5.3% change on your residential terrace, it's not a lot.
00:31It's really not going to hurt Territorians too much in the back pocket.

00:37The organisation representing senior Territorians, not so blase, fearing pensioners will take drastic steps to save money.

00:50you know, really, we might see deaths as well because they don't want to turn their air-cons on.
00:55Because they can't afford it. I mean, is that the society we want our seniors to live in?
00:59While the government hikes prices, it's also forking out an extra $58 million this year in subsidies.
