Police have released the daughter of an elderly aged care resident who was found dead inside a western Sydney retirement home. The 53-year-old was arrested after she allegedly administered a substance to her mother.

00:02Just before midnight police were called to this aged care facility in Sydney's west after the
00:08body of an 84 year old woman was discovered. Paramedics were already on the scene and police
00:15had calls to speak to a 53 year old female that was present at that location. That woman who
00:20police say is the daughter of the resident was later arrested. She was distressed when police
00:26arrived. Her conversations with the police had calls for us to take her to a hospital for a
00:33medical assessment. Police alleged the daughter administered an unknown substance to the woman
00:38and are awaiting toxicology results to determine what it was. Police say they still don't know why
00:45the 53 year old administered the substance. It's really too early to determine what the motivation
00:51is at the moment. The 84 year old female at the nursing home did suffer from a number of
00:57medical conditions. The police minister today expressing her sadness. This is a terrible tragedy
01:03and my heart goes out to all of those who are related to this person who has lost their life.
01:12As investigations continue the woman has been released without charge less than 14 hours after
01:18the incident took place. The elderly woman's cause of death will now be a matter for the coroner
01:23to determine.
