00:00:23ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:00:38ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:00:42ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:00:58Right then, let battle commence.
00:01:00It's time to qualify.
00:01:01Ferrari coming good.
00:01:03Leclerc provisionally.
00:01:04And it's going to give Ferrari a 1-2.
00:01:08That is a big moment for Max Verstappen.
00:01:11And he's out and into the barriers.
00:01:14And it's going to cost Kimi Antonelli.
00:01:17That was the luck, man.
00:01:18George Russell does cross the line and takes pole.
00:01:22Did George Russell go through double-waved yellows?
00:01:25If he lifted off and it was single-waved yellows,
00:01:28that will be Russell.
00:01:30That's nice.
00:01:31Get back with us.
00:01:32Let's drive.
00:01:33Let's drive.
00:01:34Enjoy.
00:01:38It's a short, sharp, spectacular track
00:01:40that rewards bravery over hesitation.
00:01:43And George Russell has wrestled back momentum
00:01:45by claiming pole in a dramatic end to qualifying yesterday.
00:01:50Leclerc had looked quick,
00:01:51and he took provisional pole
00:01:53with his teammate alongside him on the front row.
00:01:55But a big crash for Max Verstappen at turn 9
00:01:58brought out what Kimi Antonelli thought
00:02:01were double yellow flags.
00:02:03He aborted his lap and will start fourth.
00:02:07Carved into the rolling hills of Styria,
00:02:10this is an unforgiving circuit,
00:02:12small in length but huge in consequence.
00:02:15We're just under 90 minutes now
00:02:17from the Austrian Grand Prix.
00:02:24Well, it was an unusual and dramatic end
00:02:27to qualifying yesterday,
00:02:28one in which George Russell kept his cool,
00:02:32understood the rules,
00:02:33and ultimately put it on pole.
00:02:36Karun and Jamie boiling hot grid down here in Austria.
00:02:40I mean, it's beautiful,
00:02:41but there's just no cloud cover
00:02:42or even a breeze today.
00:02:44But George, I mean, looks magnificent
00:02:46in his little puffy cooling jacket.
00:02:48How impressed were you
00:02:49with his ability to pull it out of the bag
00:02:52right when it mattered most?
00:02:54Really impressed
00:02:55because it was a qualifying session
00:02:57where he looked behind Kimi Antonelli.
00:02:59He said it himself afterwards.
00:03:01You know, he wasn't really there
00:03:03until the final run.
00:03:04He said the car felt amazing on the final lap,
00:03:07but he had to deliver it.
00:03:09And despite the fact that he slowed down
00:03:11at turn 9 for Max Verstappen's crash,
00:03:13and we'll come back to that,
00:03:15he delivered a super lap
00:03:17to get pole position
00:03:18at a crucial stage
00:03:19in the world championship
00:03:20because he's got two cars
00:03:22between himself
00:03:22and the championship leader,
00:03:24Kimi Antonelli.
00:03:25Yes, and we heard just how much
00:03:26it meant to him over team radio.
00:03:28A very welcome surprise there for George.
00:03:31Also something of a surprise
00:03:32that Ferrari were right in there
00:03:34fighting for pole.
00:03:35Lewis was provisionally on pole,
00:03:37then it was Charles.
00:03:38Were you surprised
00:03:38just how fast they were yesterday?
00:03:40A little bit because it came to them
00:03:41as the session went on.
00:03:43In Q3, they really found
00:03:44kind of the performance
00:03:45we thought they would
00:03:46with these engine upgrades.
00:03:47Still a bit of a chunk away
00:03:48from Mercedes,
00:03:49especially if you take into account
00:03:50George backing off
00:03:51for that yellow flag.
00:03:52I think the margin
00:03:53would have been a bit bigger,
00:03:54but I think they could be happy,
00:03:55especially if it puts them
00:03:56in front of the McLarens.
00:03:57Not sure where Max
00:03:58would have ended up,
00:03:58but it's a nice spot for them
00:03:59to be, especially seeing
00:04:00as they're fast starting
00:04:01as usual.
00:04:02Now on Max,
00:04:03it was an uncharacteristic mistake
00:04:05from him,
00:04:06or at least a crash
00:04:07that we're not used to seeing,
00:04:09particularly around here
00:04:10where he's won five times before.
00:04:12You caught up with his team boss
00:04:13a bit earlier today.
00:04:14What can you tell us?
00:04:15I did.
00:04:15I spoke with Laura Mechies,
00:04:17who was very, very clear
00:04:20that this was not a driver error.
00:04:22He said to me that
00:04:23across the lap,
00:04:24they thought that Max
00:04:25maybe picked up a bit of damage.
00:04:26He was losing downforce.
00:04:29Now they can see
00:04:30what's known as the load numbers
00:04:32on the rear and the front
00:04:34and the rear of the car,
00:04:34the overall car.
00:04:35And they could see
00:04:36he was losing on the rear.
00:04:37They could see
00:04:38that the load was coming down,
00:04:40meaning some sort of damage,
00:04:42giving him less downforce.
00:04:43So when he turned into turn nine,
00:04:45the fastest corner
00:04:46on the track,
00:04:47blind entry,
00:04:48he thought he had downforce
00:04:49to squash the car
00:04:51on the ground
00:04:51and carry the speed.
00:04:52He didn't.
00:04:53And that's what sent him
00:04:54off at the barrier.
00:04:55Some mixed signals
00:04:56from Red Bull this weekend.
00:04:57They brought eight upgrades.
00:04:58They were expecting,
00:04:59hoping for perhaps a bit more.
00:05:00Where do you think
00:05:01they are in the pecking order now?
00:05:03I think Max
00:05:04would have sorted
00:05:04into that second row.
00:05:06It was a little bit hard
00:05:07to judge his session,
00:05:08especially.
00:05:08They went a little bit
00:05:09off sequence.
00:05:10We saw it got very close
00:05:11in Q2 at one point.
00:05:12He nearly got knocked out.
00:05:13But I think true performance-wise,
00:05:16like a lot of these cars,
00:05:17it's hard to get the lap
00:05:18together every lap.
00:05:19So it's hard to tell
00:05:19exactly where they are.
00:05:21But I think in terms
00:05:22of performance today,
00:05:23I think they could be
00:05:23hoping for a podium.
00:05:24Particularly when you come back
00:05:25to a track you know
00:05:26you've got incredible history at.
00:05:27How much does that
00:05:28sort of play on your mind
00:05:29as a driver and boost you?
00:05:31I think, you know,
00:05:32Max this weekend
00:05:34has been really,
00:05:35really strong in qualifying.
00:05:36He was a bit of a surprise
00:05:37as to how strong he was
00:05:38in Q1, Q2.
00:05:40I think he could have been
00:05:41P3 on the grid.
00:05:42I think without the shunt,
00:05:43he could have been
00:05:44third on the grid.
00:05:45And very crucially,
00:05:46they've thought about
00:05:47their whole weekend
00:05:48into the tyre strategy.
00:05:49He's the only one
00:05:50on the grid
00:05:51with two sets of mediums
00:05:53and two sets of new hard tyres.
00:05:54Which means to me
00:05:55they could roll the dice
00:05:56and go for an aggressive
00:05:57three-stop strategy
00:05:58and have new tyres
00:05:59all the way through.
00:06:00And he's the only one
00:06:01who could do that.
00:06:02Absolutely fascinating.
00:06:03OK, well, as we heard yesterday,
00:06:05George Russell,
00:06:05even when he lifted
00:06:07for that yellow flag,
00:06:09was able to put it on pole
00:06:10and he discussed it
00:06:11with Anthony
00:06:11at the Skypad afterwards.
00:06:14Amazing lap.
00:06:15Thank you.
00:06:15Let's have a look at it.
00:06:17Yeah.
00:06:17A bit of sound as well
00:06:18for you.
00:06:18I like it.
00:06:19I like it.
00:06:20Now, it all started at Turn 1.
00:06:21I just sent it in
00:06:22and the car just gripped.
00:06:23There wasn't a single correction.
00:06:25Which is so rare.
00:06:26It's so rare.
00:06:27It's so, so rare.
00:06:28And I was a tenth
00:06:28and a half up already.
00:06:30And I was like,
00:06:30yeah, I know this is going
00:06:31to be a strong lap.
00:06:32So then you got that
00:06:33really tricky braking zone
00:06:35at Turn 3.
00:06:35Yeah.
00:06:36Really difficult.
00:06:37Getting it in early here.
00:06:40And I've been running it
00:06:41quite wide.
00:06:41I've been watching
00:06:42Lando did this last year
00:06:43on his pole lap.
00:06:44And I think because the track
00:06:46drops away a little bit
00:06:47off camber here
00:06:48but using this yellow kerb
00:06:50sort of straightens the car up
00:06:52makes it a little bit more level.
00:06:54So that was quite nice.
00:06:55And also another thing
00:06:56I noticed that
00:06:56it seems like
00:06:59everyone else
00:06:59has kind of taken a bit
00:07:00they're up to the red
00:07:01and white kerb
00:07:02and I saw it earlier
00:07:03in the week
00:07:04you were doing the same thing
00:07:05but you're getting
00:07:06almost onto the blue part here.
00:07:08When did that kind of
00:07:09when did you start
00:07:10decide to
00:07:10I don't know
00:07:11I don't know
00:07:11to be honest
00:07:11it just happened.
00:07:13It just happened.
00:07:13It's one of those corners
00:07:14where you want to attack it
00:07:15and just let the car
00:07:16go to wherever it takes you.
00:07:18And really good traction
00:07:19on the exit as well.
00:07:20Yeah.
00:07:21There was no squirming
00:07:21around the wheel
00:07:22No, no.
00:07:23No three wheeling.
00:07:23Again I knew
00:07:24I was three times up
00:07:24by this point
00:07:25and I was like
00:07:26right this is going to be great
00:07:27and braking down here
00:07:29so difficult
00:07:30you know
00:07:30drops down
00:07:31the front wheel's off
00:07:32I had a bit of understeer
00:07:33but that actually helped me
00:07:34with my rear tyres
00:07:35and really helped the traction
00:07:37and going into this corner
00:07:39I just had a lot of fun
00:07:40to tend it in.
00:07:41It just looked like you're
00:07:42it's one of those laps
00:07:43where you've judged
00:07:43the grip or lack of
00:07:45perfectly well.
00:07:46Yeah that's exactly how it felt
00:07:48and I was
00:07:48I never once went over the limit
00:07:50and I think that's everything
00:07:52I was just 1% under the limit
00:07:53in every single corner
00:07:54and that just gave me
00:07:55so much more grip
00:07:56than I had in the rest
00:07:57of the whole weekend.
00:07:58You've been battling
00:07:58understeer in this corner
00:08:00you've been battling the rear
00:08:01snapping out on the exit
00:08:02but this lap
00:08:03it just
00:08:04that kind of decision
00:08:06when to go in full throttle
00:08:07was
00:08:08it looked completely spot on.
00:08:10Yeah and at this point
00:08:11I was 5.5 tenths up
00:08:12and
00:08:13So you're 5.5 tenths up
00:08:14what could possibly go wrong
00:08:16heading up to this
00:08:17final two corners?
00:08:19Yeah well
00:08:19Marcus came on the radio
00:08:20I see the single
00:08:21so I did a big lift off
00:08:24and
00:08:25can you just flick that back
00:08:26it's
00:08:27it's a funny thing
00:08:29with a
00:08:29I think it's like
00:08:30refresh rate or something
00:08:31where it goes green
00:08:32and yellow
00:08:32but obviously
00:08:34that's not happening
00:08:34in real life
00:08:35so there you'd say
00:08:36it's green
00:08:37but yeah
00:08:37it's clean
00:08:38so
00:08:39Are you sure?
00:08:40Yeah
00:08:41We just take it to that
00:08:42it was green all along
00:08:44everyone
00:08:44that's why he just
00:08:44kept his foot in there
00:08:45but so
00:08:46you knowing
00:08:47that
00:08:48where are we
00:08:49this
00:08:50you knowing that
00:08:51this
00:08:53is a single yellow
00:08:56that's what happened to you?
00:08:56That is a key part of your experience
00:08:58and a key decision
00:09:00to know what it meant
00:09:02Yeah I mean
00:09:03it is really clear
00:09:04a regular yellow
00:09:06isn't into them
00:09:06but
00:09:07yellow is very much
00:09:08be prepared to stop
00:09:10clear danger ahead
00:09:11so Kimi
00:09:11just so you know
00:09:12I don't know if you've spoken to him already
00:09:15or Kimi himself
00:09:16but Kimi
00:09:17interpreted that
00:09:18as a double yellow
00:09:19and lifted off
00:09:19and aborted his lap
00:09:20I didn't know
00:09:21you didn't know that
00:09:22yeah
00:09:22so that's what happened
00:09:24and then when he came round
00:09:25on his in lap
00:09:25you then got to see
00:09:26it was a
00:09:27in fact a double yellow
00:09:28which is
00:09:29yeah on the in lap
00:09:30it was a double yellow
00:09:31because the medical car was there
00:09:32and what happens
00:09:33on the double yellow
00:09:33when it's on the light panel
00:09:34but what
00:09:35physically shows
00:09:36it's like a diagonal flicker
00:09:38and that's why
00:09:40he lifted off
00:09:41on the single
00:09:42because he knew
00:09:42it was a single
00:09:43because not many people knew
00:09:44that
00:09:45when it's flashing
00:09:46when it's flashing
00:09:47it's
00:09:47it takes a bit
00:09:49it isn't so clear
00:09:51but if you know it
00:09:51it is clear
00:09:52so the double yellow
00:09:53is the diagonal
00:09:55yellow flickering
00:09:56and the single
00:09:57is the solid
00:09:58so that
00:09:59that knowledge
00:09:59meant that you lifted
00:10:00just enough
00:10:01yeah
00:10:02and when i got to this point here
00:10:04if you pause it
00:10:05because my eye line
00:10:06is around here
00:10:08i just saw the green
00:10:09the green light
00:10:11yeah it is there
00:10:12i see the green light here
00:10:14and i couldn't see any
00:10:16anything here
00:10:16so i actually thought in my head
00:10:18oh someone's just spun off
00:10:19caused the yellow
00:10:20and continued
00:10:21so by the time i got around the corner
00:10:24i was back on the power
00:10:26i lost
00:10:27i really would have loved to
00:10:29i really would have loved to finish the lap
00:10:31i think there was a good three and a half
00:10:32four tenths left in there
00:10:33so
00:10:34it was
00:10:34it was just really
00:10:35really magical
00:10:36extra
00:10:36i think about three and a half
00:10:37four tenths
00:10:39but it was just
00:10:40i don't know where the lap time came from
00:10:41you know
00:10:42it's
00:10:42i wish i knew
00:10:43because then i could do it more repetitively
00:10:45and i just said before
00:10:46i was talking with charles
00:10:47and
00:10:48these cars
00:10:48these tires
00:10:49it's
00:10:50sometimes you're quick
00:10:51sometimes you're off the pace
00:10:52and it's not so clear to understand why
00:10:55but
00:10:56yeah it worked out when i needed it to
00:10:58so the one lap
00:10:59i heard you interview before with craig
00:11:01and so the one lap
00:11:02you found that sweet spot clearly
00:11:03yes
00:11:04for the race
00:11:05this is a track you can overtake on
00:11:06yeah it is
00:11:07so it's not over yet
00:11:08no it's not
00:11:09it's gonna be close
00:11:10it's gonna be close
00:11:11i honestly think it's between the top seven guys
00:11:13because
00:11:14obviously kimmy's gonna be super quick
00:11:16ferraris
00:11:16are there
00:11:17and they've actually probably got the quickest car in the corners at the moment
00:11:20but we have the straight line speed but then verstappen is is quick
00:11:23mclaren's are quick so it's like
00:11:26i've just got to try and nail it
00:11:28the top seven in the fight it's going to be thrilling
00:11:31and as we heard there kimmy antonelli aborted his lap
00:11:34because he believed it was double yellows
00:11:36this is him on team radio
00:11:38how did your crew
00:11:43uh he did apparently lift uh through the yellow
00:11:48yeah but it was a double yellow
00:11:52uh i'd need to double check that
00:11:55a firm
00:11:56yes
00:11:56i had double yellow on my dash
00:11:59uh it's only showing single yellow here
00:12:02so we'll have to have a look through that
00:12:03see what your dash was trying to tell you
00:12:05it was single yellow
00:12:10so lots of confusion there bernie from kimmy especially
00:12:13but he wasn't the only one
00:12:15the whole paddock seemed to be confused by what was going on with the light panels
00:12:19and we have a demonstration here
00:12:22uh luckily for for you to describe and explain what the drivers are looking for in this moment
00:12:27yeah exactly so we have the light panels positioned around the track
00:12:30the one on the left is going to show a single yellow
00:12:32and the one on the right is going to show the double yellow the double we have yellow as we
00:12:36talk about it
00:12:37and you can see the double we have yellow the diagonal that george is talking about there
00:12:41it's pretty clear um from here but obviously they're going at a much much faster speed
00:12:45now the difference is with the single yellow they need to show a lift
00:12:49but with the double yellow it actually means you should abort the lap
00:12:52from that point onwards and we'll get onto the the dashboard display as well later on after we've
00:12:57looked at the the tracker the driver tracker so here we can see antonelli and russell in in the
00:13:03lighter blue and then verstappen working his way towards turn nine if we play it on you'll see the
00:13:07moment verstappen has the crash and so it was you were there on the pit wall at the time so
00:13:12it was
00:13:12only the two mercedes that were affected by this yeah so only two mercedes had just actually finished
00:13:16his lap and in lap you can see antonelli gets the scene of the accident much earlier that's why he
00:13:21has less time to react and russell you know gets to the yellow flag roughly around that section on the
00:13:26entrance to turn nine so the difference between the two mercedes was just that antonelli got there
00:13:31a little bit quicker and he had less time to look at the yellow panel on his left hand side
00:13:36so as we come up the hill with kimmy on that lap uh you're going to see the yellow light
00:13:40just flash
00:13:41there so he's had that warning of a single yellow it's very late but on his dashboard as i said
00:13:47we
00:13:47would you see just on this top left it's hard to see i just use the arrow as well that
00:13:52tiny yellow light
00:13:55means when it's static it means single yellow yeah if that flashes and i've spoken to the team at
00:14:02mercedes when that flashes it's a double yellow yeah and watch this as it plays on actually i'll
00:14:07keep the highlighter on as it plays on it's remained static the whole time he is in a single yellow
00:14:14as his dash tells him but he's backed out of it you can hear he's completely backed out uh and
00:14:20and
00:14:20aborted the lap whereas russell comes out he's got a much earlier warning of that yellow light
00:14:26you can see the single light on as well he lifts he loses around a tenth of a second but
00:14:31he goes back on
00:14:32power and finishes the lap and then just to just to finish off the demonstration uh this is kimmy on
00:14:39his in lap and you'll see on the left hand side going more slowly there is the double yellow light
00:14:45panel flashing and keep a check on his flashing yellow light there again i think that's the confusion
00:14:53that kimmy suffered there and you know a valuable lesson learned for a driver that's only at the
00:14:58beginning of his second season in formula one yeah it's driver experience i've gone through it with
00:15:02many drivers in the past if you see that single yellow do the left make sure that's going to be
00:15:06visible and data get back on par we'll tell you if it's double waved yellow and you need to abort
00:15:11the
00:15:11lap so a bit of an experience for kimmy that's maybe how george is going to get him thanks bernie
00:15:15back to
00:15:16you nats
00:15:19thank you and thank you bernie karoon should it have been a yet double yellow
00:15:23in my opinion yes um you know i think there's first of all no doubt that what george did was
00:15:29in compliance with the regulations as uh anti bernie very nicely explained there but in my opinion the
00:15:35bigger question is why wasn't it a w a yellow as far as we can understand as max of staff
00:15:40had started to
00:15:41spin and go towards the barrier the marshal at the post elected to go for a single wave yellow now
00:15:47the
00:15:48marshals do have the ability to go to a double yellow he opted to go he or she opted to
00:15:52go
00:15:53to a single there the race control could have then escalated it to a double straight away
00:15:58they opted to wait 22 seconds before making a double wave yellow and in my opinion when you've
00:16:04got a car in the barrier at arguably the fastest corner on the track a blind entry and a crash
00:16:12which
00:16:13has triggered an impact which has triggered the the medical car you know so you get a g sensor in
00:16:19the
00:16:19car which says it's a big enough impact to trigger the medical car that indicates it's a pretty big
00:16:24shot and the car's not going anywhere so in my opinion that should have been a double yellow straight
00:16:28away but george did nothing wrong did you expect therefore processes to change it seems like a lot
00:16:33of pressure on an unpaid marshal as far as i'm aware the several other team managers or sporting directors
00:16:40have been up to the fia to have this discussion i believe there will be further discussion between
00:16:45now and silverstone on this jamie experience and luck float both play a part in this game
00:16:50do you have any sympathy for kimmy antonelli i do because he hit it or he came up to it
00:16:55a bit earlier
00:16:56and as we saw the dust cloud in your peripheral vision that's always going to be distracting that said i
00:17:01am
00:17:01sympathetic in the fact that he's starting fourth he probably should have been signed second i think
00:17:05let's not take away from the lap that george was doing up until that point and i think uh yeah
00:17:10you
00:17:10learn from this it's a situation that i think the drivers are now going to be a bit more queued
00:17:15for
00:17:15but for sure in my opinion it should have been a double yellow but that doesn't mean it was a
00:17:18double
00:17:19yellow so the drivers just react on that do you share jamie's view that he would have been on the
00:17:22front row had he not aborted that lap yes i i and i also share the view that he wouldn't
00:17:27have beaten
00:17:27george he he was behind george by about 0.14 at the point where kimmy lived you know they showed
00:17:34just can he completely backed out of it and aborted so but he was only nearly a tenth and a
00:17:39half down
00:17:39and george so credit what is due even before we get to all of this mess until nine george russell
00:17:45was
00:17:45a tenth and a half ahead this goes to show that experience counts when it really matters george was
00:17:51able to lean into his experience at this track but also as a racing driver plenty of years of being
00:17:55impatient at williams before going to mercedes and you know he lends on it definitely and i think
00:18:01we're also comparing him to a driver that's in his second year of formula one and he's far exceeded
00:18:05our expectations this year leading the world championship having the season he's having but
00:18:10you've got to expect these i don't even want to call it a mistake but these kind of hiccups so
00:18:14that's natural in george's instance what was impressive was the fact he was on the back foot the whole
00:18:19weekend every time it just looked hard to get the lap time so then to come back and do that
00:18:22lap
00:18:23just shows the resilience that he has and the mental strength because that's the toughest bit
00:18:27especially when you're sort of beaten down to sort of to come back from that on a scale of one
00:18:32to ten
00:18:32how sweaty are you right now i want to go stand in the air conditioning i want to go in
00:18:36an ice bath
00:18:36valentine bottas is here he must do you have an ice bath can i come in it thanks done done
00:18:42i'm in
00:18:43so ice bath and all of this to come on the show but only naked
00:18:51at 12.55 karoon catches up with isaac hadja elmuth called me during the summer break he said
00:18:58i need things to back you up you know and first race after the summer break podium
00:19:05i knew that was enough
00:19:08at 110 ted takes a look at how lewis has finally won in red
00:19:13after 31 races and a year and a half at the scuderia ferrari it's finally happened for lewis
00:19:18hamilton at 120 the pit lane is open
00:19:25at 135 ted and bernie are on the grid
00:19:30and at two o'clock it's lights out for the austrian grand prix
00:19:42the sun is out temperatures are rising anticipation is building plenty of ferrari and verstappen fans
00:19:50in there i'm sure a few for george and kimmy too it is red bull's home race plenty to come
00:19:56after the break
00:20:07welcome back to a red hot red bull ring the home of red bull racing just over an hour to
00:20:14go until
00:20:14the grand prix now isaac hadja has been impressing on the track and proving good company off it too
00:20:22karine chandok took a very special flight with the red bull driver austria is the home of red bull and
00:20:30here at hangar seven right by salzburg airport they celebrate the two great passions of petrich
00:20:36mattershitz aviation and motor racing now as much as i love the history i'm here today to chat with one
00:20:42of their current stars
00:20:52isaac is it cool to be here hangar seven the home of red bull yeah it's awesome i actually have
00:20:58good
00:20:58memories here i had a junior team camp uh back in the days i mean back in the days it
00:21:04was four years
00:21:05ago you say back in the day yeah i came here and i came here 18 years ago makes me
00:21:09feel old i was three
00:21:10yeah oh god we have to talk about the passion that dietrich mattis has had for aviation and and racing
00:21:18you see it all here don't you it's good to see the culture what red bull has built over the
00:21:23years
00:21:23yeah let's talk about this one because this is the car um that you got your podium in at zandvoort
00:21:30yeah
00:21:30i mean it's a beautiful car it was super important wasn't it to get to get that podium and tick
00:21:36that box
00:21:37i remember because it was at the moment where things were getting decided helm would call me during the
00:21:43summer break he said i need things to back you up you know and first race after the summer break
00:21:49podium
00:21:50uh i thought i knew that was enough i hear you're giving me a lift to the circuit i am
00:21:56because i feel
00:21:57very generous today thank you so yeah we're jumping on the plane right now i see the plane yeah that
00:22:03is
00:22:04a that is not a normal plane it's huge you know how heavy that plane is i can't imagine 42
00:22:12tons
00:22:23but this is a special way to travel look and i mean how cool is this in 1958 bc6 yeah
00:22:31what a great way to go to spielberg
00:22:32like i'm in the 50s you know like with a cigar let's talk about your first six months being a
00:22:41red bull driver
00:22:41how's it been for you uh it's been what i expected in terms of competitiveness from my side comparing
00:22:50myself to the best driver on the grid i think i've been doing fairly well to be honest i'm just
00:22:56looking
00:22:56forward to fight more at the front is what i'm looking forward to i was looking at some numbers
00:23:02you've been closer to max than any of the teammates in recent times on average 0.12 in qualifying you
00:23:09must
00:23:09be very happy with that yeah very very happy i mean uh every time car was identical i was i
00:23:16was there you
00:23:17know and but at the same time i must say every time he he goes out there you know he
00:23:21finds the grip
00:23:22earlier than i do he he sets the benchmark very early and it's honestly it's just what i expected from
00:23:30him it's just super high level does anything surprise you coming into the big team from from what you
00:23:35expected nothing surprised me which is maybe why i adapted this well to the to the team for me every
00:23:41everyone every team member is familiar to me the only shocker was probably that the new sets of
00:23:46regulations but that was for everyone and we're still learning our pew is still very young so we're
00:23:54still facing issues we we don't want to face but we we must i was nervous for you coming into
00:24:00that second
00:24:00see i feel like that's gone now right do you feel that do you feel okay yeah of course you
00:24:05know the
00:24:06the nerves of being max's teammate is gone yeah of course there's a bit of doubt you look at what
00:24:10happened to previous teammates and at the same time i believe that you give me the right thing
00:24:17you give me the same chance as my teammate there's no way i'm gonna get beaten latent a lot like
00:24:24that's
00:24:24that's the belief i have yeah of course there was a bit of worry but when you stay irrational yeah
00:24:29it
00:24:30all makes sense
00:24:42can we talk about monaco why does it have to be so difficult the whole thing with pierre and the
00:24:47penalty and all that got all the headlines i think it's easy to forget you were in front of pierre
00:24:53you know before that final restart tell me about the emotional roller coaster i mean it was
00:25:01very tough race for me in the cockpit also the pilot is down
00:25:08had so many issues in like drivability wise with the pu it's not something you want in a truck like
00:25:15monaco you know you want confidence on the brakes had george behind me beeping and somehow we still
00:25:20managed to drag it to third place before that final restart making no mistake i think i i was i
00:25:27was
00:25:28proud of my race but uh and you could at least you got the moment on the podium yeah i
00:25:33got the
00:25:34celebrations done then at the end of the day what was taken away from me was three points
00:25:38i can live with that but uh i was happy with the weekend do you feel that a podium is
00:25:45coming
00:25:46hopefully this weekend yeah on homegrown i mean exactly and it's a track of opportunities it's a
00:25:52very small layout you think this is a track where people are going to be close to mercedes it's the
00:25:56shortest track of the year and um we're bringing an upgrade for this weekend and
00:26:01we obviously believe it's gonna work because i believe in my guys and uh let's see let's see how
00:26:08it goes isaac good luck for the weekend thank you thank you very much and thank you for the lift
00:26:12yeah no
00:26:13worries
00:26:23hello and a very warm welcome to our friends on main event you join us just an hour before lights
00:26:30out
00:26:30here in austria and you're treated some acrobatics from uh dario costa italian stunt pilot and red bull
00:26:38athlete sorry if you were trying to eat your lunch there karoon jamie would you give that a go
00:26:43absolutely not not a chance no i i love the dc6 that was a very relaxing ride uh this does
00:26:49not look
00:26:50relaxing watching it isn't relaxing either it's not you just assume it's going to go wrong at any point
00:26:56but uh very impressive uh piloting skills so i'm sure we're going to see some more impressive
00:27:00piloting skills this afternoon but uh yeah i definitely want to be a passenger just watching
00:27:05it uh lovely chat there with isaac many have tried to make the second red bull seat their home he
00:27:12seems
00:27:13increasingly at ease and comfortable with it was that your takeaway i think he's doing a fantastic job
00:27:19you know if you look at the gap i mentioned the piece uh between him and max it's the closest
00:27:23it's been
00:27:24since max first arrived in that team and had daniel ricardo against him you know when you go back
00:27:29you're going all the way back to 2018 daniel's last season where already the gap was starting to open
00:27:34up so it's been a long time since the second red bull has been a genuine contender for points and
00:27:40podiums he was uh you know unlucky monaco he had that issue on the restart running only on five cylinders
00:27:46so
00:27:46i think he's doing a fantastic job this season and he seems very comfortable in his skin very
00:27:51comfortable in that place of being verstappen's teammate very vocal in the cockpit he's sort of
00:27:56like a bit of a jacqueline hyde character isn't he very relaxed out of it but in the car he
00:28:01seems to
00:28:02well maybe that's what he harnesses that's what works for him he's a hard taskmaster he always has
00:28:06been i think in f2 you would hear these radio messages albeit from a much younger even though he's
00:28:11still young uh younger personality and i think that often got confused with you know him being a little bit
00:28:17tricky uh as a character but i think he's coming to formula one and that's actually one of his
00:28:21strengths because he is so hard on himself before anyone in that red bull camp telling me he's not
00:28:26doing a good enough job he's the first one first person to tell himself that even when actually in
00:28:31reality us looking in it's never that bad so i think this self-criticism is is a very good quality
00:28:37that he has that said i think it's a much softer landing coming in this year i want to give
00:28:41him all the
00:28:41credit in the world because he's doing an incredible job he did an incredible job last year as well
00:28:44but it's a lot softer landing coming into these new regulations that i think it would have been
00:28:48coming in last year into the environment against max in that car and potentially also a different
00:28:53culture now that uh helmet marco's left and laura mickey's has replaced christian horner it feels
00:28:58different at red bull doesn't it it does feel different um you get the feeling there's more
00:29:02change coming obviously gp's leaving we're hearing of other people as well so there is change coming
00:29:06but isaac can only do the best he can with the tools he's got and again here this weekend only
00:29:12i think
00:29:12there's got a tenth and a half between him and max there so he's doing a very good job okay
00:29:16well isaac
00:29:17qualified p8 an abrupt ending to his teammate max the staff is qualifying yesterday with a big crash at
00:29:24turn nine we're hearing that it was to do with his rear wing but um yeah not an enjoyable moment
00:29:33for him
00:29:35it did mean though that he was uh he's qualified p5 because he was able to get that lap in
00:29:40before the
00:29:41crash let's hear from him now max you know it's a holiday today in austria with the draw against
00:29:46algeria everybody's celebrating and you can make this an even bigger party with a good result today
00:29:52for rebel racing how likely is that yeah i mean i'm gonna try my best of course you know to
00:29:57do uh
00:29:57to give them the best result possible i hope that uh yeah we can fight of course with the people
00:30:02around us let's say that it was of course not the qualifying you wanted yesterday but still
00:30:08the whole team seems very very confident talk us a little through it yeah i mean we have to now
00:30:13of
00:30:13course get the car ready for the race and uh and then we'll just focus on that you know we'll
00:30:17try to
00:30:18um yeah just get the most out of the car uh and it's very hot out there you know so
00:30:22the tires also
00:30:23it will not be easy to manage that but uh we'll see what we can do we'll also uh in
00:30:28terms of uh strategy
00:30:29i know it's the first of many home from freeze actually coming up for you but how special is
00:30:35disaster and to be for you max yeah it's always super nice to see this support it's one of you
00:30:39know my favorite tracks and we've had already so many great results here so i hope that uh yeah we
00:30:44can have another strong uh race here and uh yeah this is just fantastic to see well a great reception
00:30:51there for max the staff and as you would expect and just to clarify it was damage at the rear
00:30:55of the
00:30:55car aero damage uh that he picked up somewhere else on the lap not specifically to the rear wing
00:31:00he does go very well here indeed what is it about this track that suits him i think a lot
00:31:06of people
00:31:06have a misconception with this track i've spoken about it quite a lot i mean it's short but it's
00:31:10so challenging and the last sector especially that's where you've got to really turn it up and
00:31:14find those kind of absolute accuracy and precision to find the limit but not go over that limit obviously
00:31:20it wasn't his fault by the looks of things but going over the limit it has big consequences and i
00:31:24think
00:31:24he's always been one of the masters at that just being so up against the limit running the car to
00:31:29to the very edge and uh that's what he's so impressive at that said he's also uh generally
00:31:34speaking in a car that or has been in a car that's been competitive around here had good sort of
00:31:39straight line performance engine sensitive track as we know but uh this weekend it seems like red bull
00:31:44found their form be interested to see if you can go for a podium later and do you also subscribe
00:31:48to
00:31:48the theory that you're lifted by your home fans how much does it count for do you think
00:31:52it must count for something you know absolutely i mean look at it look behind you can see it the
00:31:56dutch
00:31:56there's the orange all the way around us it must give you a boost okay well it was a a
00:32:02strong day
00:32:02for the wider red bull family with both racing bulls qualifying well let's hear from arvid linblad now
00:32:07he's with great well good to see you arvid i take it you're refreshed you didn't stay up too late
00:32:13watching the football last night or did you uh no uh i went to bed around half time so it's
00:32:21a bit late
00:32:21fair enough that was all right late starts in f1 compared to f3 so it's uh it's okay fair enough
00:32:26listen i mean you're on a good run you're looking for a third successive points finish do you think
00:32:31you've got the car beneath you to carry that out uh i think so i'm confident that we do i
00:32:35mean it's
00:32:36true that we have been less competitive in the previous events in the race than in quali but um
00:32:42i think the guys have done a really good job they've given us a strong package i'm really looking forward
00:32:46to to the race today so uh definitely gonna stuck it gonna get stuck in i think uh points are
00:32:50available
00:32:51yeah complicated race potentially two borderline three what might push it to three stops i it will be uh
00:32:58yeah not easy on a tired egg side i don't think it'll be three i think it could be three
00:33:02if
00:33:02there's a safety car a nice time you know but i don't think on pure strategy will be a three
00:33:06uh
00:33:06unless it's just i don't know it just becomes 40 degrees um so no i think it'll be two but
00:33:14yes
00:33:14strategy will be important management will be important so a lot of things to look after even now
00:33:18in the heat you know the brakes the pu uh i think it's temperatures that these engines haven't
00:33:23run in before so there could be could be problems so um lots of things to be on top of
00:33:28but should make it fun go well thank you oh well did you miss both of england's goals i'm glad
00:33:35to

00:33:47they
00:33:47out in the blazing sunshine it's creeping up to 40 degrees here okay after the break we will chart
00:33:53lewis hamilton's journey with ferrari to get up to the top step
00:34:01just saw these amazing videos from all my fans it's very emotional just spent hours reposting
00:34:24to the biggest brands in the history of formula one i've always imagined what it would be like
00:34:31Сидит в подвеске, окружающейся в воде.

00:36:01After 31 races and a year and a half at the Scuderia Ferrari, it's finally happened for Lewis Hamilton
00:36:11The most successful driver in Formula 1 history, winning a Grand Prix for the most successful team in Formula 1
00:36:17history
00:36:19Hamilton joins a club of 16 drivers to have won for three different teams
00:36:23The most recent of whom include Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso
00:36:30Talking of Fernando Alonso, both he and Carlos Sainz, previous winners for Ferrari, understood Hamilton's emotions on the podium in
00:36:38Barcelona
00:36:38Winning for Ferrari is always one of the best feelings in the world
00:36:41The Italian anthem and you have all the mechanic down in the podium
00:36:48We sent a message to congratulate Lewis and I was really happy for him and for Ferrari
00:36:53I wasn't expecting that for sure and it was really appreciated
00:36:57It was really special to see the support from them
00:37:00The post-race celebrations started way too early by Fred Vasseur
00:37:04Who wasn't going to wait for a queue to spray his bubbly
00:37:07Went on into the evening before attention turned to how to try and win again this weekend
00:37:12But it hasn't been lost on Hamilton or Ferrari
00:37:15The lessons learnt on how this win came about or why it took so long
00:37:20Reason 1, the China crisis
00:37:22Of course this wasn't the first race Hamilton won for Ferrari
00:37:25That was last year's sprint race in China
00:37:27But that car was found to be illegal after the next day's Grand Prix
00:37:31And from then on was consigned to an also-ran
00:37:34As Ferrari had to compromise its potential downforce
00:37:37And therefore speed in having to make sure it wasn't disqualified again
00:37:44Add to this, Hamilton never got on with the ground effect era of cars from 2022 to 2025
00:37:50And he hadn't been involved in the design of last year's Ferrari
00:37:53Something Ferrari technical director Loic Serra here with Hamilton
00:37:56Was happy to emotionally share in Lewis' success
00:37:59With a car that now suits him better
00:38:02I'm really grateful that the team have been working closely with me
00:38:05I've got a real tight-knit group of people
00:38:07It's great to see that they listen to me
00:38:10But it's a two-way street
00:38:13Two, the key car changes
00:38:15As well as design changes
00:38:17Lewis was proved right
00:38:18In that he needed a change of brake material
00:38:21The brake discs and pads coming from a supplier
00:38:24He'd been used to when driving at Mercedes
00:38:26And a change of engineer
00:38:27Last year's relationship with Ricardo Adami
00:38:30Now a thing of the past
00:38:31In Spain, Hamilton was getting the positive and motivated feedback
00:38:35He needed from his new engineer, Carlo Santi
00:38:37Am I catching him?
00:38:39You are catching him anyway
00:38:40Keep pushing, keep pushing
00:38:41Santi joined Lewis on the podium
00:38:43But seemingly had had enough of the champagne by the team photo at the end of the day
00:38:49And thirdly, Lewis Hamilton himself
00:38:51His winter reset to banish the glass half-empty version of himself
00:38:55To the person who showed up in Australia
00:38:58I lost sight for a second of who I was
00:39:00And that person's gone
00:39:03So you won't see that person again
00:39:05Indeed in Spain, Lewis credited his fans
00:39:08For reminding him about the champion he was
00:39:11And how much he'd achieved
00:39:13Lewis, remember when you want me
00:39:14I just saw these amazing videos from all my fans
00:39:19It's very emotional
00:39:21I just spent hours reposting
00:39:24Yay!
00:39:25I feel emotional
00:39:26So that's three reasons why it took Hamilton so long to win for Ferrari
00:39:31But now he is winning and the car is genuinely quick
00:39:34Thanks to its upgrade package
00:39:35Including these wheel covers
00:39:37To keep the rear tyre temperatures cool
00:39:38And a new, more powerful engine this weekend
00:39:41So is it realistic for Hamilton and Ferrari
00:39:44And Charles Leclerc for that matter
00:39:46To challenge the mighty Mercedes for the World Championship
00:39:49I think the opportunity is there
00:39:51All we can do is just take it one day at a time
00:39:53Everyone back at the factory is working so, so hard
00:39:55They see what's possible
00:39:57And when you see what's possible
00:39:58It's like a North Star
00:39:59You know that's the direction we need to go
00:40:02So there's every chance this won't be the last time
00:40:04Lewis wins for Ferrari
00:40:05And has his famous fans, the Tifosi
00:40:07Dancing around their living rooms in pure joy
00:40:13And it is great to see that joy
00:40:15Welcome to the front of the grid
00:40:18Jamie, just how significant a win was that in Barcelona?
00:40:23He's 106 for his first for Ferrari
00:40:26It's huge, I mean, a lot was made when he went to Ferrari
00:40:29Because we knew how powerful this moment would be
00:40:31You know, everyone dreams of driving for Ferrari
00:40:34It's like Sebastian Vettel said
00:40:35Everyone's a Ferrari fan
00:40:36And I think for a long time he's dreamed of that moment
00:40:39And last year was such a tough year
00:40:40To then bounce back
00:40:42Have the form he's had this year
00:40:43Kind of been knocking on the door
00:40:44And then to do it
00:40:45How he did it
00:40:46With a bit of a Lewis masterclass in my opinion
00:40:48The tyre management
00:40:49The way they sort of forced the strategy
00:40:51I think it was just perfect
00:40:52And it sets up well, I think, for the rest of the year
00:40:54Absolutely
00:40:55So what does it mean for the rest of the year?
00:40:57And the resurgence of Ferrari in our sport?
00:40:59Well, they're second and third on the grid here
00:41:01And, you know, they've brought upgrades
00:41:03They've improved the engine
00:41:04They've got a new fuel
00:41:05We believe this weekend as well
00:41:07So they are pushing hard
00:41:08They are not giving up on the championship
00:41:10They still believe Mercedes have the fastest overall package
00:41:14I think they're a little bit annoyed
00:41:15Mercedes have been given a reprieve on the engine
00:41:17To upgrade as well
00:41:19But they are in with an outside chance of the championship
00:41:22And they are absolutely pushing hard to try and chase it
00:41:25Now you say that everyone is a Ferrari fan
00:41:27Maybe some are a bit more open about that than others
00:41:29It is important for the sport to have a competitive Ferrari
00:41:33Why do you think that is?
00:41:34Well, I think Ferrari, if you look at Italy
00:41:36And sort of the way it's like a national team
00:41:38And they bleed Ferrari
00:41:40And I think motorsport, you go back to the history of it
00:41:42And we're seeing a different version of the sport
00:41:45As we evolve and a different fan base
00:41:46And I think all of this is great
00:41:48But still, if you kind of grab onto that whole culture
00:41:51And the history of the sport
00:41:52Ferrari is so important
00:41:53And as a racing driver
00:41:55And as someone like Lewis Hamilton
00:41:56Has grown up in the sport
00:41:57And he's competed against Ferrari
00:41:58And he's lost world championships to Ferrari
00:42:01He wants to win in red
00:42:02And he's done everything else he can do
00:42:04I think in the sport that's possible to do
00:42:06So I think as a pure driver and a purist
00:42:08Everyone wants to see Ferrari do well
00:42:10And I think it's important for the sport to have
00:42:12Generally competitive
00:42:14Good competition around the whole grid
00:42:16And I think that's what we're starting to see this year
00:42:18Because we have definitely seen this championship
00:42:20Open up since that win
00:42:21There is that belief now
00:42:22Not just within Ferrari
00:42:24But also amongst the other teams
00:42:26That they are truly competitive now
00:42:27Yeah, I think so
00:42:29You know, I think it does feel like
00:42:30Ferrari is the closest to Mercedes
00:42:32At the moment
00:42:33Red Bull, we'll see what Max can do
00:42:35Today because he looked like he could have got
00:42:37Ahead of the prize
00:42:38Or maybe split them in qualifying
00:42:40It is tightening up
00:42:42We're going to see a convergence
00:42:43But for me
00:42:44You just have to look around the Grand Sands
00:42:46At every race we go to
00:42:48There are more Ferrari fans
00:42:50Than any other team
00:42:51They are the only team
00:42:52Where you have more fans for the team
00:42:55Than for the drivers
00:42:56You've got more Kimi fans
00:42:57Or George fans at Mercedes
00:42:59All of the other drivers
00:43:00Ferrari is the only team
00:43:02Where you have more Ferrari team fans
00:43:03And that's why they're important for F1
00:43:05And that's why they need to be winning for F1
00:43:07Well, strategy worked so well in Barcelona
00:43:10For Lewis
00:43:11And what are his options today?
00:43:13Who better to ask
00:43:14Than our very own strategist Bernie Collins?
00:43:17Bernie?
00:43:18Yes, Natalie
00:43:19Down on the pit wall here
00:43:20Hopefully bringing some data
00:43:22And some strategy in sight
00:43:23As the cars are leaving the pit lion behind me
00:43:26Very hot race, as we've said
00:43:28We are expecting a two-stop strategy
00:43:30Now, what we're expecting with that
00:43:32Is that teams will run mainly
00:43:33The medium and the hard tyres
00:43:35Depending on whether they have
00:43:37Two hards or two mediums
00:43:39Available in their allocation
00:43:40What can Ferrari do?
00:43:43Well, their allocation is pretty similar
00:43:44To the others
00:43:45So I'm not sure that there's lots
00:43:47That they're going to be thinking about
00:43:48But the one to watch, I think
00:43:50The one to look out for
00:43:51Is Max Verstappen
00:43:53He has two sets of mediums
00:43:54And two sets of hard
00:43:56So he is the one that is most likely
00:43:58To be able to make that three-stop work
00:44:01If any of the others
00:44:03In, let's say, the top ten
00:44:04Start on a soft
00:44:05That might be the indication
00:44:07That they are also on a three-stop strategy
00:44:09So the two versus a three
00:44:11In these hot conditions
00:44:12Is definitely going to be
00:44:14Something to look out for
00:44:16And can Verstappen
00:44:17Do what Lewis Hamilton
00:44:19And Ferrari did last week?
00:44:21I think that's the big thing
00:44:22To watch out for
00:44:23And enough from me
00:44:24Well, luck, have a look
00:44:26I want to have seen
00:44:26At the end of the preview
00:44:28Thank you very much, Bernie
00:44:29Yes, they're absolutely
00:44:32Set to the grid
00:44:33And the tension really rising here
00:44:35As they go through me
00:44:36Into turn one
00:44:37The right hand
00:44:38Into turn one
00:44:39And then up to the right hand
00:44:41Of turn three
00:44:41But here we are
00:44:42At the Red Bull ring
00:44:43In Spielberg, Austria
00:44:45High in the Austrian hills
00:44:47I've got to admit
00:44:47I haven't seen a lonely goat herd
00:44:49Round here
00:44:49But what I have seen
00:44:50Is a lonely Mercedes
00:44:52On the front of the grid
00:44:53And you would have said
00:44:54This was George Russell's race
00:44:56To lose
00:44:56But he's got the two Ferraris
00:44:58Behind him
00:44:59And then he's got
00:45:00Kimi Antonelli
00:45:01And remember what happened
00:45:02At the last race
00:45:03A couple of weeks ago
00:45:04In Spain
00:45:04It was Kimi Antonelli
00:45:06Who was just
00:45:07Playing straight out quicker
00:45:09At the end of the stints
00:45:11So whether it's two stops
00:45:13Or three
00:45:13Look out for Antonelli
00:45:15Attacking Russell
00:45:16At the end of those stints
00:45:18Because Antonelli
00:45:19Was quicker
00:45:19The last time they raced
00:45:21They've got the Ferraris
00:45:22In between
00:45:22And it's George Russell
00:45:24Thinks one of the top seven
00:45:25Can win
00:45:26Well we'll see about that
00:45:27Who might take advantage
00:45:29Of a three stop
00:45:29What happens if there's
00:45:30A safety car
00:45:31Or a virtual safety car
00:45:32It's a much cheaper way
00:45:34To run your race
00:45:34Having maybe a cheeky
00:45:36Extra stop
00:45:36At the end of that
00:45:37But as we say
00:45:38Around here
00:45:39The hills
00:45:39They are very much alive
00:45:40With the sound
00:45:41Of 1.6 litre V8 turbos
00:45:43And up
00:45:44In his alpine
00:45:45Wooden
00:45:46Commentary box
00:45:48Lookout
00:45:48Is David Croft
00:45:50What can you see
00:45:51You can see the whole track
00:45:52From up there
00:45:52Can't you Crofty
00:45:53Well we would
00:45:54If we were a little bit
00:45:55Further to my right
00:45:57At the moment
00:45:57We've actually got
00:45:58Quite a sloping roof here
00:46:00So I have to duck down a bit
00:46:01To try and see the track
00:46:02But we can
00:46:02See an awful lot
00:46:04Here's a fun fact
00:46:05For you today
00:46:05When was the last time
00:46:06And the pole sitter
00:46:07For a grand prix
00:46:09Here at the red bull ring
00:46:10Didn't lead the opening lap
00:46:122018
00:46:13You've got to go back
00:46:14Nine races for this
00:46:15It was Valtteri Bottas
00:46:16On pole that day
00:46:16And he eventually
00:46:17Retired from the race
00:46:18So George Russell
00:46:19Secured pole
00:46:20And he's got that
00:46:22Little confidence boost there
00:46:23But more often than not
00:46:24The pole sitter
00:46:25Survives the opening lap
00:46:26In the lead
00:46:27Which hasn't always
00:46:27Happened of course
00:46:28In 2026
00:46:30First back to back
00:46:31Poles for George
00:46:32Since the end
00:46:32Of the 2024 season
00:46:34Which is actually
00:46:35When he won here
00:46:35At the red bull ring
00:46:36There was a collision
00:46:36Between this man
00:46:37Max Verstappen
00:46:38And Lando Norris
00:46:39With about eight laps to go
00:46:40And that benefited George
00:46:41And he went on to win it
00:46:42Mercedes have a 100% pole record
00:46:44And that continues this year
00:46:46Four apiece
00:46:46For George Russell
00:46:47And Kimi Antonelli
00:46:48Who's P4 on the grid
00:46:50And that interestingly
00:46:51Is his worst start
00:46:52For a grand prix
00:46:53This season
00:46:53For the championship leader
00:46:54He and George
00:46:55By the way
00:46:56The only drivers
00:46:56To break the 200 mile an hour
00:46:58Barrier
00:46:59In qualifying yesterday
00:47:00In the speed trap
00:47:01For Ferrari
00:47:03Charles Leclerc
00:47:03Second on the grid
00:47:04No surprise
00:47:05There is the fourth time
00:47:06In five grand prix
00:47:08Here that he's done that
00:47:08Lewis Hamilton
00:47:09P3 on the grid
00:47:10Has never started
00:47:11In that position before
00:47:12And if Ferrari
00:47:13Do win today
00:47:14It's their 250th
00:47:16Grand Prix victory
00:47:17There goes Franco Colopinto
00:47:19In the Alpine
00:47:20His teammate
00:47:20Pierre Gasly
00:47:21Missed out on the top ten
00:47:22By the nearest of margins
00:47:24Four one hundredths
00:47:25Of a second
00:47:26He's trying to go
00:47:27For a fourth
00:47:27Power points finish
00:47:28In a row today
00:47:29If he does it
00:47:30It's 500 points
00:47:30In Formula One
00:47:31For Pierre Gasly
00:47:32But this is going to be
00:47:33A long hot race today
00:47:35Full of strategic possibilities
00:47:37Lauren Mechis
00:47:38The Red Bull boss
00:47:39Is said to me earlier today
00:47:41Plenty of opportunity today
00:47:42Max Verstappen's strategy
00:47:44Could be very very interesting
00:47:45That's down to you
00:47:47Fantastic
00:47:48Thank you very much
00:47:50Crofty
00:47:50Yes it is boiling hot
00:47:51Down here
00:47:52The track temperature
00:47:53Is creeping up to 55
00:47:54And the air temperature
00:47:55Almost 40
00:47:57On the way then
00:47:58And more build up
00:47:59To the Austrian Grand Prix
00:48:00Including Ted and Bernie
00:48:02On the very hot grid
00:48:13Let's get this show on the road
00:48:14Shall we
00:48:15Hey mama
00:48:16What you gonna tell me
00:48:18I can be a heartbreak
00:48:19A trouble
00:48:19Make a sun shake
00:48:20Yeah you better bet on me
00:48:22Get in there
00:48:23That's very nice indeed
00:48:24I like this car
00:48:26I like this engine
00:48:27I like this car
00:48:29I like this car
00:48:30I like this car
00:48:31I like this car
00:48:32Signore and signori
00:48:33Andrea Quirio Conelli dice
00:48:36We did it
00:48:38We did it
00:48:38We did it
00:48:39I can see you ready to fly
00:48:41I like this car
00:48:43You're the youngest ever leader
00:48:44Of the Formula One World Championship
00:48:49What a start
00:48:50And it's all going up
00:48:51History made
00:48:52Here in Miami
00:48:53We move
00:48:54Let's go man
00:48:55Yeah
00:48:57The gloves
00:48:58They've been thrown away
00:48:59In a duffin
00:49:00At Mercedes
00:49:02What a road
00:49:03What a road
00:49:06We're gonna box this man
00:49:07To retire the car
00:49:08And it's all gone wrong
00:49:10For Charles Leclerc
00:49:12Leclerc's want to go with
00:49:13Woohoo
00:49:19This is our way
00:49:21To keep everything
00:49:23Heartbreak
00:49:24And the engine's gone
00:49:25And Hamilton
00:49:27Is back
00:49:28On the top step
00:49:30Of the podium
00:49:33Europe sizzles
00:49:34In a summer heat wave
00:49:35And the championship
00:49:36Is hotting up too
00:49:43What a season
00:49:44We've had
00:49:45And here is how
00:49:46It's reflected
00:49:46In the drivers
00:49:47And constructors
00:49:50Kimi is still out in front
00:49:5141 points ahead
00:49:52Of Lewis Hamilton
00:49:53Who has a 9 point advantage
00:49:55Over his old teammate
00:49:56George Russell
00:49:57The McLarens are 5th and 6th
00:49:59The Red Bulls 7th and 9th
00:50:01With Liam Lawson
00:50:02Rounding out the top 10
00:50:05His teammate
00:50:05Is in 13th and 13th and 13th
00:50:09Williams' teammates
00:50:09Sainz and Albon
00:50:11Are in 14th and 15th
00:50:12Hulkerberg
00:50:13Through to stroll
00:50:14Yet to get off the mark
00:50:16As for the constructors
00:50:18Well Mercedes
00:50:18Are out in front
00:50:19On 262
00:50:2172 ahead of Ferrari
00:50:23McLaren in third
00:50:24On 141
00:50:2552 points
00:50:26Further behind
00:50:27And there's a real battle
00:50:29In the midfield
00:50:29Between Alpine
00:50:30Racing Bulls
00:50:31And Haas
00:50:32Single digits
00:50:33For Audi
00:50:34And Aston Martin
00:50:34And no points yet
00:50:35For Cadillac
00:50:38Okay so confirmation
00:50:39Of today's grid
00:50:41Russell is on pole
00:50:42For the 4th time
00:50:43This season
00:50:43And the 11th
00:50:44In his career
00:50:45McLaren joins him
00:50:46On the front row
00:50:47With his teammate
00:50:48Lewis Hamilton
00:50:49In third
00:50:50Championship leader
00:50:51Kimi Antonelli
00:50:52Is in fourth
00:50:52His lowest start
00:50:53Of the season
00:50:54Max Verstappen
00:50:55Secured fifth
00:50:56Before his crash
00:50:57The McLarens
00:50:58In sixth
00:50:58And seventh
00:50:59The Racing Bull
00:51:00Of Hadja
00:51:01In eighth
00:51:03Pierre Gasly
00:51:04Missed out
00:51:05On the top 10
00:51:06By just four
00:51:06One hundredths
00:51:07Of a second
00:51:08The Haas duo
00:51:09Of Behrman
00:51:10And Ocon
00:51:10Are in 13
00:51:11And 15
00:51:15And then
00:51:16It's two by two
00:51:17With Williams
00:51:18Ahead of Cadillac
00:51:19Ahead of Aston Martin
00:51:25Okay well let's talk
00:51:26About last year's
00:51:28World Champions
00:51:29McLaren
00:51:29We chatted
00:51:31With Andrea Stella
00:51:32A little earlier
00:51:33This weekend
00:51:34And he said
00:51:35Jamie
00:51:35That he wasn't
00:51:36Expecting a big
00:51:37Step forward
00:51:37Until probably
00:51:38The midway
00:51:39Point of the season
00:51:39And perhaps
00:51:40The upgrades
00:51:41Were going to be
00:51:41Incremental
00:51:42In terms of
00:51:42The impact
00:51:43On the pace
00:51:43And performance
00:51:44Of the car
00:51:45Exactly
00:51:45And I think
00:51:46If you take
00:51:46What he said
00:51:47And you kind
00:51:47Of look
00:51:48At the lines
00:52:17Yeah we asked
00:52:19Then they can
00:52:20To be in a stronger
00:52:20Position
00:52:21For the second
00:52:21Half the season
00:52:22Orlando
00:52:22On pole
00:52:23And the win
00:52:24Here last year
00:52:25George said
00:52:25He thinks
00:52:26All seven
00:52:27Will be in the fight
00:52:28Today
00:52:28Do you share
00:52:29That opinion
00:52:30I don't
00:52:31Sadly for McLaren
00:52:32I think
00:52:32They are
00:52:32Three tenths away
00:52:33I think
00:52:34They are
00:52:35Kind of
00:52:35In a battle
00:52:36Maybe with
00:52:37Red Bull
00:52:37I think
00:52:37Today is
00:52:38About
00:52:38Mercedes
00:52:39Versus
00:52:40Ferrari
00:52:40Maybe
00:52:41Max
00:52:42With that
00:52:42Alternative
00:52:43Strategy
00:52:43So
00:52:44I think
00:52:45McLaren
00:52:45A little bit
00:52:45Behind
00:52:46I believe
00:52:46They have got
00:52:47A small
00:52:47Upgrade
00:52:47Coming
00:52:48For Silverstone
00:52:48Another
00:52:49Small
00:52:49Upgrade
00:52:50For Spa
00:52:50But as
00:52:51You said
00:52:51Their big
00:52:52Update
00:52:52Is coming
00:52:52For Zandvoort
00:52:53After the
00:52:54Summer break
00:52:54The song
00:52:55Behind us
00:52:56Is
00:52:56Don't
00:52:56Stop
00:52:56Believing
00:52:57Perhaps
00:52:57That's
00:52:57What we
00:52:58Should
00:52:58Be
00:52:58Saying
00:52:58To
00:52:58McLaren
00:52:59It
00:52:59Is
00:52:59Strange
00:52:59Though
00:53:00When
00:53:00You're
00:53:00A
00:53:00World
00:53:00Champion
00:53:01To
00:53:01Then
00:53:02Have
00:53:02To
00:53:02Shift
00:53:03Focus
00:53:03To
00:53:03This
00:53:04Year
00:53:04When
00:53:04You
00:53:04Put
00:53:04So
00:53:04Much
00:53:05Emphasis
00:53:05On
00:53:06Securing
00:53:06That
00:53:07World
00:53:07Championship
00:53:07Not
00:53:08Just
00:53:08To
00:53:08The
00:53:08Team
00:53:08But
00:53:17Had
00:53:17Having
00:53:17Their
00:53:17Own
00:53:17Power
00:53:18Unit
00:53:18Of
00:53:18Course
00:53:19They're
00:53:19Going
00:53:19To
00:53:19Be
00:53:19A
00:53:19Natural
00:53:19Advantage
00:53:20Red Bull
00:53:21Are
00:53:21Probably
00:53:22More
00:53:22Impressive
00:53:22Than
00:53:22We
00:53:22Thought
00:53:23With
00:53:23Their
00:53:23New
00:53:23Power
00:53:24Unit
00:53:24Ferrari
00:53:25As
00:53:25Well
00:53:25Put
00:53:25A
00:53:25Lot
00:53:26Of
00:53:26Emphasis
00:53:26Into
00:53:26This
00:53:27Year
00:53:27So
00:53:27Naturally
00:53:27You're
00:53:28Going
00:53:28To
00:53:28See
00:53:28This
00:53:28Ebb
00:53:29And
00:53:29Flow
00:53:30That
00:53:30Said
00:53:30I
00:53:30Think
00:53:30McLaren
00:53:31They
00:53:31Have
00:53:32Potential
00:53:32I
00:53:32Mean
00:53:32It's
00:53:32A
00:53:32Bit
00:53:33Weird
00:53:33Here
00:53:33They
00:53:33Seem
00:53:33To
00:53:34Lacking
00:53:37In
00:53:37Power
00:53:37Unit
00:53:38It
00:53:38May
00:53:38Mean
00:53:38They
00:53:39Have
00:53:39Slightly
00:53:39Drag
00:53:39A
00:53:39Car
00:53:40Or
00:53:40Something
00:53:40But
00:53:41Yeah
00:53:42I
00:53:42Think
00:53:42They
00:53:42Can
00:53:42Find
00:53:42Themselves
00:53:43On
00:53:43The
00:53:43Right
00:53:43Side
00:53:43And
00:53:43Anything
00:53:44Can
00:53:44Happen
00:53:44Here
00:53:44You
00:53:44Know
00:53:44It
00:53:45Can
00:53:45Get
00:53:45Clumsy
00:53:45The
00:53:46Racing
00:53:46Can
00:53:46Get
00:53:47Tight
00:53:47We've
00:53:47Seen
00:53:47It
00:54:07Brunner
00:54:07We'll
00:54:07Be
00:54:08Back
00:54:08With
00:54:08His
00:54:08Usual
00:54:09Gridwalk
00:54:09At
00:54:09Silverstone
00:54:10Don't
00:54:10Forget
00:54:10The
00:54:10British
00:54:11Grand Prix
00:54:11It's
00:54:11Next
00:54:11Weekend
00:54:12Back
00:54:12To
00:54:13Back
00:54:13Races
00:54:13You
00:54:13Don't
00:54:13Have
00:54:13To
00:54:13Wait
00:54:14A
00:54:15Couple
00:54:15Of
00:54:15Weeks
00:54:15Until
00:54:16The
00:54:16Next
00:54:16Races
00:54:17But
00:54:17The
00:54:18Amount
00:54:19Of
00:54:19Activity
00:54:19In
00:54:20The
00:54:20Cockpit
00:54:20Of
00:54:21George
00:54:21Russell's
00:54:21Car
00:54:21Is
00:54:22Quite
00:54:22Interesting
00:54:22For
00:54:23Me
00:54:23They
00:54:23Had
00:54:23To
00:54:23Remove
00:54:24A
00:54:24Bit
00:54:25Of
00:54:25Carbon
00:54:25Fiber
00:54:25On
00:54:26The
00:54:26Left
00:54:26Now
00:54:26They
00:54:27Putting
00:54:27A
00:54:27Tie
00:54:27Wrap
00:54:27I
00:54:28Mean
00:54:28These
00:54:28Formula
00:54:29One
00:54:29Cars
00:54:29Are
00:54:30Kept
00:54:30Together
00:54:30With
00:54:30Tie
00:54:30Wraps
00:54:31Basically
00:54:31There's
00:54:31More
00:54:31Tie
00:54:32Wraps
00:54:32Than
00:54:32You
00:54:32Would
00:54:32Imagine
00:54:33But
00:54:33If
00:54:34I
00:54:34Was
00:54:34The
00:54:35They're
00:54:35Working
00:54:36In
00:54:36The
00:54:36Brake
00:54:36Paddle
00:54:36But
00:54:37He
00:54:37Also
00:54:37Took
00:54:37Out
00:54:37See
00:54:38Just
00:54:38To
00:54:38The
00:54:57To
00:54:57The
00:54:57Side
00:54:58Of
00:54:58The
00:54:58Chassis
00:54:58To
00:54:58Make
00:54:58Sure
00:54:59It's
00:54:59Not
00:54:59Rubbing
00:54:59Against
00:55:00His
00:55:00Leg
00:55:00During
00:55:00The
00:55:00Race
00:55:01Because
00:55:01Obviously
00:55:01That
00:55:02Is
00:55:02Not
00:55:02A
00:55:03Team
00:55:03Okay
00:55:03All
00:55:04Right
00:55:04But
00:55:04That's
00:55:04Not
00:55:04A
00:55:04Race
00:55:04Ending
00:55:05Thing
00:55:05That's
00:55:05Just
00:55:05A
00:55:05Comfort
00:55:05Thing
00:55:19Let's
00:55:27Busy
00:55:27At
00:55:27The
00:55:27Front
00:55:28Of
00:55:28The
00:55:28Grid
00:55:28Here
00:55:29We
00:55:29Go
00:55:29All
00:55:30Right
00:55:30Let's
00:55:30Have
00:55:30A
00:55:30Look
00:55:31At
00:55:31The
00:55:31Ferraris
00:55:32Because
00:55:32Of
00:55:32Course
00:55:32The
00:55:33Ferrari
00:55:33Is
00:55:33In
00:55:33A
00:55:33Mercedes
00:55:34Sandwich
00:55:34Here
00:55:35And
00:55:35We
00:55:35Know
00:55:35That
00:55:36Bernie
00:55:36Their
00:55:37Start
00:55:37Line
00:55:37Advantage
00:55:38Has
00:55:38Been
00:55:38Negated
00:55:39Now
00:55:39That
00:55:39Mercedes
00:55:40Have
00:55:40Caught
00:55:41Up
00:55:41So
00:55:41Then
00:55:41We're
00:55:42Looking
00:55:42At
00:55:42Potentially
00:55:42Different
00:55:43Strategies
00:55:43Because
00:55:44The
00:55:44Longest
00:55:45Mercedes
00:55:47Are
00:55:47A
00:55:48Shade
00:55:48Quicker
00:55:48Than
00:55:48Ferrari
00:55:52On
00:55:53The
00:55:54Long
00:55:54Stop
00:55:54Do
00:55:55They
00:55:55Commit
00:55:56Early
00:55:56Doors
00:55:57To
00:55:57That
00:55:57Free
00:55:57Stop
00:55:58Put
00:55:58A
00:55:58Soft
00:55:59On
00:55:59Maximise
00:56:00Or
00:56:00Start

01:00:46Home
01:00:47We're
01:00:47In
01:00:47Their
01:00:47Home
01:00:47That's

01:00:52So
01:00:53This
01:00:53Is
01:00:54An
01:00:54Interesting
01:00:54Fight
01:00:54Because

01:00:56Been
01:00:56Quicker
01:00:56Than

01:01:05He's
01:01:05That
01:01:05Flavio
01:01:06You
01:01:06Naughty
01:01:06Man

01:01:15Back
01:01:15Towards
01:01:16The
01:01:16Front
01:01:16Of
01:01:17The
01:01:17Grid
01:01:17So
01:01:18Yeah
01:01:18What
01:01:18Do
01:01:18We
01:01:18Think
01:01:19Then
