00:30:04finished in 5th and 8th respectively.
00:30:07Let's hear from the Ferrari Cup now, starting with Lewis.
00:30:10Lewis, it looked like you were in set for a good day.
00:30:14Great start, great pass on Charles.
00:30:16Ultimately, the Ferrari did not seem to agree with those hard tyres.
00:30:20I didn't agree with any of the tyres today.
00:30:23No, a very, very hard race.
00:30:25I'll tell you, it was a really, really tough race.
00:30:27One, being extremely hot.
00:30:31So, yeah, my start wasn't really very good, to be honest.
00:30:34My getaway was poor, but when I was on the attack,
00:30:38obviously got past Charles,
00:30:41and I thought it wasn't looking too bad in the first few laps.
00:30:44With George, I was kind of holding on for a second.
00:30:47And then the rears just dropped off on every set.
00:30:51For some reason, the balance was very open, very difficult.
00:30:56And I think we, I mean, on Friday,
00:30:59we were down 6 tenths just in straight line speed.
00:31:02And now I have to go and see what the case was today.
00:31:06But I'm sure it was not insignificant.
00:31:09But also just grip-wise, we just couldn't keep up with everyone today.
00:31:12So, very tough one, but I'm grateful for the points.
00:31:15The team did a great job with the strategy and with the pit stops.
00:31:20The boys worked so hard on the pit stops, so I'm really proud of them.
00:31:24And, yeah.
00:31:26Yeah, not the result we wanted, but we got the points at least.
00:31:30Coming off a recent win, there's a lot of excitement to see you at Silverstone again,
00:31:34and we hope you can challenge.
00:31:36Is it just that power that's still the concern the team has highlighted,
00:31:39the depth that you maybe have to Red Bull and Mercedes,
00:31:42that maybe you need another upgrade at some point in the year
00:31:45if you're to really challenge?
00:31:46Yeah, we're going to have to push really, really hard
00:31:47to see when we can get the next power upgrade.
00:31:52But, yeah.
00:31:55When you're around these guys, it's deployment.
00:32:00It doesn't necessarily feel so much as power,
00:32:02because when you come out of the corner,
00:32:04it feels like you've got the grunt.
00:32:05It's just deployment at the end.
00:32:07Our tails off, and particularly Mercedes, they just keep going.
00:32:11So, we've got to look at why and how we can improve that,
00:32:15but that's not going to come for a while.
00:32:16But you'll be fired up for next week, finally.

00:32:19I love Silverstone and lots of straights, unfortunately,
00:32:22but hopefully the car will be in a bit of a nicer place there.

00:32:30Well, Cheryl, yesterday felt like quite a big step forward was today,
00:32:33a bit of a step back.
00:32:35Yeah.
00:32:36Yeah, it's fair to say that.
00:32:38I mean, it was pretty bad today.
00:32:40I went into a set-up direction yesterday
00:32:42that was a bit more similar to where I felt good last year,
00:32:46but then this year it was never working.
00:32:50The rear was never there.
00:32:51I was just sliding around, overheating a lot the rear tyres,
00:32:54so it was very tricky.
00:32:55I don't know if losing position to Lewis early on
00:32:58made that much of a difference,
00:32:59but when you assess the lie of the land now
00:33:01with Red Bull making a significant step
00:33:03and McLaren still there or thereabouts,
00:33:07where does Ferrari stand heading towards the end of this first part of the season?
00:33:12It's very difficult to understand.
00:33:13I think nobody is really understanding the difference of performance from one weekend to the other.
00:33:21I think last weekend, in Barcelona, we probably were one of the strongest cars on the Sunday.
00:33:27We brought some upgrades that worked.
00:33:30I don't think it's all down to the upgrade this weekend.
00:33:32I think it's just these cars are very, very sensitive to wherever you place them.
00:33:38And as soon as you are not in the right place with the setup,
00:33:43you pay the price a lot.
00:33:44And today was a very good example of that.
00:33:49So, Frédéric, tell us what the differences were between winning in Barcelona
00:33:53and struggling a bit today.
00:33:56I think we are all on the edge in this situation.
00:34:00And if you don't have the pace, you overpush,
00:34:03you take some risk on the strategy.
00:34:05And when it's not paying off, you have to do the addition of the deficit
00:34:09and you pay the bill at the end.
00:34:10That's what's happened today for us.
00:34:13We didn't have the pace to fight with the Mercedes and Max
00:34:17and we overpushed the first couple of laps.
00:34:19We had to change the strategy and everything went in the wrong direction.
00:34:23But it's a good lesson.
00:34:26And they fought well, the drivers.
00:34:28Lewis fought well with Max as well.
00:34:31Did Charles just struggle on a particular set?
00:34:33It seemed, was it the second or third set that he just struggled on?
00:34:40I don't remember the set.

00:34:44He wasn't happy with you.
00:34:45Yeah, yeah, it was a very thing.
00:34:46And the point of where you are on track and in the fight
00:34:49that you have to take more or less care of the drivers.

00:34:58And it paid off for Lewis last week
00:35:00because we were able to do 80% of the race in clean air.
00:35:04And this weekend, it was not the case at all.

00:35:34Only four points from the last three Grand Prix.
00:35:37To start on the front row and ultimately finish eighth
00:35:39is a bad day at the office.
00:35:41Yeah, miserable.
00:35:42You know, and he just looks a bit lost to me, I think,
00:35:47which is even worse because in Spain,
00:35:51okay, there were reasons why he wasn't at the front.
00:35:53He crashed in qualifying, but the car was fast.
00:35:55And here, he just struggled on the hard tire.
00:35:59They both really struggled on the hard tire,

00:36:20was almost, gave them false hope?
00:36:25Maybe, I don't want to say false hope,
00:36:27because the gap, like I say,
00:36:29if Mercedes had finished their laps,
00:36:31the gap would have still been quite significant.
00:36:34But I think that's something we're seeing as a trend this year,
00:36:36is to do a lap in qualifying and put a lap together
00:36:39and get the most out of the tire in that window
00:36:42versus ultimate race pace are two very different things.
00:36:45And race pace now can really fall off a cliff.
00:36:48If you haven't got the tires in the right window,
00:36:50if you're not using the deployment correctly in the traffic
00:36:52and, you know, racing other people,
00:36:55then you can really lose so much race time.
00:36:58And so that's what I think we've seen with Charles
00:36:59quite a few times this year.
00:37:01George, we've also seen it with previously.
00:37:02Even today, a little bit.
00:37:04The difference in a little bit of pace here and there
00:37:06ends up being a huge amount.
00:37:08And I think that's something we're just growing to see of this season.
00:37:11OK, how good does it feel, by the way, to have some cloud cover?
00:37:14I'm delighted.

00:37:16It's the first time, actually, all weekend.

00:37:31So we're going to look at the Ferraris,
00:37:33that fight that Ted was asking Fred Vasseur about.
00:37:36And it was pretty much there right from the beginning.
00:37:39So we'll start it off the line with Lewis on our left,

00:37:44And Charles plays it, I think, sensibly with George at the start there.
00:37:48He knew he couldn't challenge him.
00:37:50But then on the rundown towards turn three,
00:37:52we keep looking out on the right-hand side screen
00:37:54because now Charles mounts a bit of an attack on George
00:37:57around the outside.
00:37:58He tries it on.
00:37:59Lewis sees it now, so flick your eyes to the left-hand side.
00:38:02And this is where Lewis realizes he has a bit of a chance.
00:38:06But if you keep an eye on how close they get
00:38:09on Lewis's left front towards the right rear of shot,
00:38:13I think they actually touch here.
00:38:15And if you keep an eye on Lewis's steering,
00:38:17yeah, I reckon it just sort of checks up
00:38:19alongside his teammate's right rear wheel.
00:38:21So not bad, just three corners into the Grand Prix
00:38:24already making contact.
00:38:25And it's the same again on the exit
00:38:27because both drivers get so close.
00:38:29Look at Charles.
00:38:30And there we go.
00:38:31Touch him again.
00:38:32And then on the run-up towards turn through turn five,
00:38:35look how close this is for Charles.
00:38:36I mean, it makes me wince.
00:38:39If I was their team owner,
00:38:40I'd have my head in my hands at this point.
00:38:42That is a bit too close for comfort
00:38:44between my two drivers.
00:38:46Later on, on lap 37,
00:38:49we've got a three-way fight this time
00:38:50with Piastri in front of Leclerc.
00:38:54And making a move on Leclerc, I should say,
00:38:56in turn three.
00:38:57And it's on the exit here
00:38:59where the two cars actually make a small amount of contact.
00:39:03So just highlight it for you
00:39:04because you'll just see the moment there it is,
00:39:06the bodywork, the front wing,
00:39:08just gets flicked up into the air.

00:39:28and gets a drive through
00:39:30and just about manages to get around the outside
00:39:33of his teammate that time around.
00:39:35So yeah, good, hard racing between the two of them.
00:39:38But at some moments,
00:39:40like I say, a bit too close for comfort.
00:39:42Then we had this moment
00:39:43that Karun spotted on lap 39,
00:39:46this save.
00:39:47And into turn nine, there he goes.
00:39:49Look at that, really wrestling the car.
00:39:51I mean, it looks more dramatic on the offboard,
00:39:54but there's more than meets the eye here.
00:39:56It's not just the fact he lost control momentarily.
00:39:59It's the fact that the rear wing
00:40:00stays open a little bit longer.
00:40:02And if we look at Piastri's for a reference,
00:40:05so the slot gap of the rear wing
00:40:06is just about to go.
00:40:07Lewis still open between these two white lines.
00:40:11And if I just roll it on slightly,
00:40:13there, it closes.
00:40:15So both front and rear wing
00:40:17close simultaneously as expected
00:40:20between these two white lines.
00:40:21And then he turns into the corner.

00:40:59And that's probably what saved him ultimately.
