In this Ubud travel vlog, we share 72 hours that didn’t go how we planned… but ended up becoming some of the most healing days we’ve had in Bali.

From staying in the beautiful Villa Mila and exploring the Penestanan area, to finally visiting Monkey Forest (after being too scared years ago!), spending a rainy day at Jungle Fish, and learning to play the handpan for the very first time — this trip gave us everything we didn’t know we needed.

Ubud has always had a special place in our hearts. The nature, the people, the food, the energy, the creativity… every time we come here, we leave feeling like completely different people.

If you're planning a Bali trip in 2025, especially to Ubud, we hope this video helps you discover some beautiful experiences beyond the usual tourist path.

00:00Oh, it's just the most healing place. I just love it here so much
00:18Okay, I'm currently getting ready to leave to go do something that I've wanted to do for a very very
00:23long time
00:23What do we notice? Nate's not panic a bit. I'm just kind of like me panic a little bit honestly
00:30Um
00:50Nomad is not a vacation. It's freedom, but it's also discipline. It's an exchange of security for enhanced experiences
00:58It's a way of life.
01:27Run away, run away, run away.
01:30Run away, run away, run away.
01:57Run away, run away, run away.

04:19Run away, run away.
04:25Run away, run away.
04:34Run away, run away.
04:40Run away, run away.
04:44Run away, run away.
05:07Run away, run away.
05:09Run away, run away.
05:11Run away, run away.
05:15Run away, run away.
05:17Run away, run away.
05:27Run away, run away.
05:29Run away, run away.
05:37So we are currently staying at Villa Milla or Mia depending on the pronunciation.
05:43It's in Penistanan.
05:45It's just around the corner from, as you saw earlier, Alchemy Yoga and Meditation Center.
05:51Wood and I love staying in Penistanan when we come to Ubud.
05:54It's our favorite area.
05:55The rain since we've been here, it's just started raining as I've come outside.
05:58We haven't got to use the pool since we've been here because it's pretty much just been
06:03raining on and off.
06:04We've been going out and pretty much trying to take advantage of whenever it's not raining
06:09and doing things.
06:10So we've been dodging the rain a lot.
06:12It's just the most healing place.
06:14I just love it here so much.
06:16I always feel like I get so much out of our stays in Ubud and I leave such a better
06:21version
06:21of myself.
06:22Yeah, I really, really love it.
06:23I feel so peaceful here and just more connected to nature, calmer.
06:31We always meet really interesting people while we're here as well from all over the world.
06:36One of my favorite things I've found about here is we've always managed to meet people
06:40really easily in comparison to anywhere else.
06:43I think we've made the most friendships and long-standing relationships with people here
06:48in Ubud.
06:49I don't know what it is, but everyone is so friendly anytime that we go out for lunch or
06:54spend time at like a day club or anything like that.
06:57It's been awesome.
06:59And the restaurants that we frequent have been amazing with Lila as well, helping us look
07:03after her.
07:04So also the food, abundant with healthy food everywhere that's affordable.
07:10Prices have gone up here quite substantially.
07:12Some of our favorite warungs have like doubled in price, uh, since the last time that we were
07:17here, but still manageable.
07:20I just, I love it here so much.
07:22I feel like a much happier, better version of myself.
07:25Anyway, our villa is a two bedroom here.
07:27We booked it through Airbnb.
07:29Uh, we're staying here with our friend 2V.
07:31Quite affordable.
07:32I think it, we got it for around 80 US dollars a night to split between the two of us.
07:39It's a two bedroom and then it's got like the living room separated, which is really nice.
07:44And everything's been walking distance.
07:45So that's been great.
07:46Ah, there.
07:47But it's starting to rain.
07:48I got to run inside.
07:56That's pretty cool.
08:00Okay.
08:04We're actually heading to do something that we were a bit too scared to do, um, last
08:10time that we were here, or sorry, the first time that we came to Bali, mostly because it
08:16was just after COVID, um, so is going to the monkey forest, uh, because there hadn't been
08:24enough tourists, apparently the monkeys had got a little bit more aggressive during that
08:28time because no one was really, there just wasn't as many people feeding them.
08:33So we decided to steer clear of it, but, um, we've decided to go today because obviously
08:38tourism's picked up way more than that now.
08:41And um, yeah, we're going to take Lila and see how we go.
08:43Okay guys, I just want to take a quick second to give a shout out to Surfshark for sponsoring
08:47today's video.
08:48So one thing that we don't really show a lot of on this channel is some of the behind the
08:53scenes stuff like editing content, uploading content, and of course, planning all of our
08:58trips.
08:59And because we live as digital nomads, mostly we don't really have access to our own wifi
09:05most of the time.
09:06We're either at airbnbs, short term rentals or hotels.
09:11And that means that we're constantly using other people's wifi, not our own.
09:16And if you don't know, public wifi is actually a gold mine for hackers, which is wifi over
09:22three years.
09:23Now we've been using Surfshark VPN, any case you don't know what VPN stands for.
09:27It's virtual private network to this day.
09:30I'd never log on to any kind of wifi without first firing up my Surfshark VPN.
09:35And that's because using a VPN is almost like wearing a virtual mask.
09:39It encrypts all of your data so that hackers can't access anything on your computer.
09:44And that's really important because that means people can't find all of your sensitive
09:48information, like your passwords to some of your accounts or maybe your banking information.
09:53Maybe they can get into your email account.
09:55But aside from security, because that's just one reason that we use a VPN, we also use it
09:59so that we're able to access different streaming sites while we're overseas, like HBO, Hulu.
10:05And without a VPN, I wouldn't be able to do that while we're here in Bali.
10:08So guys, I can't stress this enough.
10:10Don't leave yourself vulnerable to hackers.
10:12Sign up for Surfshark VPN today using our link below and you will get four months extra for free.
10:18All right, let's get back into this video.
10:19Let's get back into this video.
10:41Nice to join, eh?
10:44Yeah.
10:47Yeah.
10:49Go, shut up.
10:51Hands back out.
10:54Yeah.
10:59Hey, hey happen.
11:04Now say, Hey, hey.
11:05Hm..
11:05Yeah.
12:14So there's a sign there with some rules and guidelines.
12:17The first one is do not panic.
12:19I don't know why.
12:20We need to not panic.
12:22What do we need to not panic about?
12:24It's kind of making me panic a little bit, honestly.
12:27The second one is do not run.
12:30What are we running from?
12:32What would we be running from?
12:33A monkey, I guess.
12:34And it says do not look the monkeys in the eye.
12:38So that's made me feel heaps better.
12:41Especially with the baby.
12:43Yeah.
12:44Should have brought Lila some sunnies.
12:46Oh, we're in the jungle.
12:53It's really cool.
12:55Little statues and stuff.
12:57Really cool.
12:58Really cool.
13:25This lady's holding one.
13:28Do you want to hold one, Mandy?
13:30No.
13:32Go ahead.
13:34I've already got one.
13:45This is actually so cool.
13:47We so should have come here sooner.
13:49Like, I thought it was just going to be sort of an overdone touristy thing.
13:53But it's actually so beautiful in here.
13:55The reason we're a bit like sauce on these monkeys.
13:58Our first experience with monkeys in Bali.
14:01We just got to Ubud.
14:02And about 20 feet away from us.
14:05We're waiting for a taxi.
14:06And that monkey jumps from the power lines onto a woman's head.
14:11And she starts screaming.
14:13That was the first time we'd ever seen a monkey in Bali.
14:16So it wasn't like the best first impression.
14:19That's why we've been a little bit tentative about these guys.
14:22But they seem alright.
14:23Yeah, I definitely think the post-COVID, not having any tourism,
14:28not getting fed as much as they were used to, like abundantly,
14:32made them a bit more aggressive.
14:34But yeah, they seem way more like tame now.
14:37There's a bunch of them all in.
14:39What?
14:45What's up, what?
14:49Indeed.
15:06There's a bunch of them all inias.
15:06They find that they're stillAJWG people.
15:07There was no low store running there.
15:07They don't know.
15:07There's a bunch of them to find the AREC.
15:09So in this area of our city,
16:18All the way down?
16:21Oh, thank you.
16:28Yep.
16:33All right, we just got to Jungle Fish Restaurant, which is like one of the nicest, one of the
16:41nicer dayclubs here in Ubud.
16:43It's one of our favourites for sure.
16:45It's right in the jungle.
16:47It's got an awesome pool and you can rent sunbeds for like 500k for the day and that goes towards
16:54food and drink.
16:55Um, and the weather is okay now, but I can see some really dark clouds there.
17:01But anyway, we're going to try and make the most of it.
17:03It's like 11am.
17:05So hopefully, um, I don't know, we get a couple of hours before the rain sets in this afternoon.
17:35Is there any left?
19:01Okay, I'm currently getting ready to leave to go do something that I've wanted to do
19:05for a very, very long time.
19:07For years, actually.
19:08I have wanted to learn how to play the handpan.
19:12And so I'm going to go get a lesson with my friend Tuvi right now.
19:16There's a guy that teaches it here in Ubud, which is so exciting.
19:19I've been looking for someone to do lessons with.
19:22It's an hour and a half and it's 750 IDR.
19:26I don't know if he just sort of sent us like coordinates where to go.
19:30I don't know if it's in his house or if it's in like an actual space.
19:33I guess we're going to find out.
19:35But I'm so excited.
19:35I wanted to do this for a really long time.
19:37I listened to handpan flat out.
19:40It's meant to be the most healing instrument in the world.
19:42So it's really cool.
19:43And if it's good, hopefully it's something I can recommend for you guys to do as well
19:47when you come to Ubud.
20:21How cool is this?
20:25This is our teacher, Eduardo.
20:28Hello.
20:29So exciting.
20:30Those are the handpans.
20:32Awesome.
20:33Oh, I'm so excited.
20:34I've wanted to do this for so long.
20:35Nice.
20:36This is sick.
20:37Yeah.
20:38Are you going to sandpillar?
20:40Do you do the balls as well?
20:41Yeah.
20:42This is actually my partner, but I also do that.
20:44Yeah, sick.
20:45I've got a few balls as well.
20:46Yeah, a few times.
20:47I've never been able to play them.
20:48Have you?
20:49No, I've never even touched it.
20:50You didn't touch one?
20:51No.
20:52This is where we are here.
20:53Yes.
20:54All right.
20:58How did that?
20:59I'm doing better.
21:00Yes.
21:00So cool.
21:24Very good.
21:26Very good.
21:42Yeah, man.
21:43He's a fryer.
21:44Woo-hoo!
22:13Woo-hoo!
22:30what do you think of that too v give me your thoughts on handpan oh yeah it's definitely
22:34one of the um funnest experiences i've had in a long time just learning something new
22:38it's something i've always wanted to learn and um aguardo aguardo aguardo was um just an absolute
22:44dreamboat and just such a great teacher it was probably the best experience yeah i highly
22:49recommend it yeah yeah we loved that we both want to buy a handpan so bad now um i will
22:55link him down
22:56in the description if you're interested in doing that class yeah i really really recommend it we
23:00didn't want it to end the hour and a half went so quickly um yeah he's also got a connection
23:06for
23:07purchasing a handpan as well and uh tubi and i are definitely weighing it up right now
23:13oh my gosh love that was incredible you missed out it was so good do you know how to play
23:19the handpan
23:20we do like by the end we were both playing it yeah we should see the videos
23:40so
23:50so
23:52so
25:11All right, we're just headed on the, let me get this right, Champuhan Ridge Walk, which
25:18is like a pretty famous trail that everybody walks here in Ubud.
25:24We have never done it for whatever reason, I don't know why, but today we're giving it
25:29a crack before the weather turns.
25:31It's only 7am, so hopefully we'll be able to do it.
25:43It's so beautiful.
25:47So the word Champuhan comes from Balinese and it means the mixing of two rivers, which
25:57they believe is a powerful spiritual energy because of these, the mixing of these two
26:04rivers.
26:04And it's been a holy site for prayer and purification dating back to the 8th century.
26:12It's a Buddhist temple here called Pura Gunan Leba Temple.
26:22And so that's why many of the Balinese come and do this walk because it's like a purification
26:28sort of meditation walk.
26:30And you can feel it here actually.
26:32Yeah.
26:37It's sort of symbolic for our time here in Ubud.
26:40I feel like a completely different person after a week here.
26:45Oh, this is getting pretty steep.
26:49I thought it was a walk, so I wore a dress.
26:55Well, honestly, in all the photos on like Google, it's just like this flat, chill walk.
27:05Yeah, honestly, it's pretty steep.
27:22It looks like there's a Wurrung here or a coffee shop with a swing, but it's not open.
27:35I think it said on Google at the end of it, there's like restaurants and stuff.
27:40And here, I think we're at the top of the ridge nearly.
27:45It's very, very peaceful.
27:47All you can hear is birds and insects and there's palm trees on the other side of the ridge.
27:53It's pretty cool.
28:27That's very cool.
28:34Look at all.
28:36I can't read all the shapes without a Fra jum at the edges of the bay.
28:37They didn't see more big on the'Toootzdem house between Entonces.
28:40Walpoken house, they'd be like, you know, there's like this particular arch that the roadden can be changed.
28:47All right, well that wraps up the ridge walk.
28:50Really wasn't that difficult, it was just the beginning that was a little bit steep,
28:54so wearing a dress and Birkenstocks was fine.
28:57We're actually getting ready to pack up and head to a new country for a few weeks to a
29:04month, and then we'll be heading back to Bali.
29:07So if you're here for Bali content, don't worry, we are coming back, but we're really
29:10excited to go check out this new country, so if you do want to follow along, make sure
29:14you like and subscribe to our channel, we're really, really excited about this.
29:19It's been a while since we've seen a new country, we've kind of been bouncing around between
29:22places that we frequented and that we love, so this should be really exciting, we're excited
29:27to share it with you guys.
29:28This will be Lila's sixth country, which is super exciting for her, but as always, thank
29:32you guys so much for watching, we really appreciate it, and lots of love, we will see you in the
29:37next series.
29:39Bye!
29:44Lila LOVES looking people in the eye, yes, death staring.
