00:03It is the last Sunday of June and this is Australia's national weather forecast for the
00:08week ahead. Let's start by having a look at last week, which I said was going to be relatively
00:13boring and it kind of was. There was fog over most parts of the southeast for multiple days
00:19in a row. We saw lots and lots and lots of cold overnight minimum temperatures, which
00:25led to some frost risk in areas. We also saw little bursts of rain, for example, in the
00:33Gippsland region along the west coast of Tassie. And then over this weekend, because of a low
00:39moving across, we also saw some moderate falls in Western Australia. Let's have a look at the
00:46week ahead, which is largely a lot more going on. Okay, so this is the rainfall potential
00:54totals from today till next Sunday. And you can see we have intense rainfall possible
01:02for the east coast, specifically over the alpine areas. Now, that's been a story that we've seen
01:10across multiple weather forecasters for the last few days. And as the models have progressed,
01:18we've gotten a slightly better idea of where that rain is going to fall. And for the most
01:22part, it does seem to concentrate over the ranges. But that rain comes across in two different
01:28systems. So the first one is actually that low that's moved over WA. You can see the last bits of
01:35it that actually fall today on Sunday, and then into Monday, it starts to move into the Bight.
01:41By Tuesday, it comes across, it drops further south. So it actually is just a trough that moves
01:47over the interior. But that trough draws on a lot of tropical moisture and starts to bring rain in for
01:54much of the eastern states. Okay, so that's our first bout of rain. Then another low pressure system
02:04moves across the Bight and arrives on about Thursday for the southeast. But that's brought together with a
02:13front. And that front is bringing much cooler conditions, as well as rain. So what we're going
02:21to see is that in these alpine regions, the Tuesday rainfalls will be warmer rain. On Thursday, it looks
02:30like there's a good chance that there is snow on the way. For the rest of the regions that aren't
02:36receiving
02:37as much of this rainfall, we're still seeing moderate falls with a potential up to 25 or 50 mils, which
02:44is
02:44really decent rainfall. That means that there is a possibility of flash flooding in multiple areas.
02:51The front on Thursday also brings some strong winds, so we should expect to see some marine weather
02:58warnings throughout the week as well. Finally, there are still conditions at the start of the week as that
03:05trough moves across with the rainfall, so there is still a possibility of fog and frost risk, especially
03:12at the start of this week for much of the states. We can also see this little rain band in
03:18the south
03:18of the Northern Territory that is likely to fall a little bit on Tuesday, but mainly towards the
03:25start of the start of next weekend. Another high pressure system moves over in the area in the south
03:34on sort of the start of next weekend, bringing again settled conditions. So really Monday to Friday
03:42across most of the southern parts of Australia, we're expecting decent rainfalls with stronger winds
03:49towards this end of the week. Okay, let's have a look at wind now. I've moved us forward onto Thursday.
03:55Here we're looking at the second low pressure system, which is bringing very chilly southerly and
04:02southwesterly winds up into the Bight and into the east coast with gusts 63 to 90 kilometers an hour.
04:09Let's move ahead into Friday now. As that system moves across, we're starting to see some stronger
04:17bursts mainly in coastal regions, so not as much on land. And then it should move over and leave
04:27most of the continent relatively still for the weekend as that high pressure system moves across.
04:33But as you can see, it hangs around in the Tasman, bringing strong winds along the coast and into Tasmania.
04:40So that's what's happening with the wind this week as well. Finally, let's have a look at the long
04:46range forecast. We are looking at July's chance of exceeding the median rainfall. And we can see
04:53that for much of the east, there's a 50-50 chance whether it will be the median or above the
05:00median,
05:00I should say. It seems unlikely that the west coast will receive more than average rainfall
05:09and about 35-40% chance down in the south as well. It looks like there's a likelihood or a
05:18relatively
05:19high likelihood that the very north tropical regions will exceed the median rainfall in July.
05:25So that's something to look at as well. So that's it for the week. We have two low pressure systems
05:30bringing lots of rain to the southern parts of Australia. The first arrives in the southeast on
05:38Tuesday while the second starts to develop in Perth on Tuesday as well. It then moves across and will
05:44start to hit the southeast on Thursday and it will likely bring snow. If you want a state-by-state
05:52breakdown of what's happening in your area, those videos are also available to you now. So we'll see you there.
05:57We'll see you there.
