00:00Ben Standings with us as he is every Monday and Wednesday,
00:03Monday and Friday.
00:05I'm sure we'll have another video out here shortly,
00:08but did you like the last one?
00:10That's my favorite one.
00:14At this point, I think I'm immune to his charms at the moment,
00:18but sure.
00:20Yeah.
00:21That was the most charming though.
00:23Yeah.
00:24No, I sure.
00:25You know, look, who knows?
00:26We don't know what's going on.
00:27Maybe he's going to be part of the,
00:28maybe he's going to help Mark Klaus on the ticket side,
00:31help promote the new stadium.
00:33Who knows?
00:34Yeah.
00:35I mean, there's a lot there.
00:37Where are you on these,
00:39on the Brandon Aiyu question these days?
00:42I mean, you know, I think I'm the same place I've been for a while.
00:47I think you're there too.
00:48It's just like, I, you know, I just don't,
00:53you know, you know, in the, in the movie Total Recall,
00:56when the Schwarzenegger is figuring out that he had like,
01:00that he has this like other life.
01:02And then there's like the video of him and the bad guy talking to,
01:08to the current version of him saying,
01:10explaining what the, what the con is.
01:12That's what I'm almost waiting for.
01:13The like,
01:13Aiyu and Peters and Daniels are just going to put up a video one day.
01:18We're just having fun of you guys.
01:20It's all good.
01:21Other than that, I just, I just don't know what to think anymore.
01:25I just, you know, as everybody has said,
01:26I don't know how this is helping the cause.
01:27And it just makes it harder and harder for me to understand why they'd want
01:32to take the risk.
01:32But, you know, like I said, I've been here for a while now.
01:35Yeah.
01:36I mean, I think the question actually is the risk.
01:39What is the risk?
01:40Even if he's, you know, not all there.
01:43My, my biggest issue.
01:45And the reason I kind of came around is the last couple of videos were just,
01:49it real,
01:50they really reflected somebody who's not very serious about what he should be
01:55serious about, which is if he really wants to be here,
01:58take the actions that are out there that he could take to get here,
02:03you know, his action, or really it's his inaction.
02:07That is the most disappointing part because we didn't hear a thing from him.
02:13You know, we were talking before June, you know, early June.
02:16We don't even know where he is.
02:18His agent doesn't even know where he is.
02:19Nobody knows anything.
02:21That would have been a better environment for him to be released in and then
02:24signed in.
02:25But the video, you know,
02:29deluge of the last few weeks just highlights the fact that he's not serious
02:34right now anyway,
02:35about doing what it would take to actually be on Washington's roster.
02:42He hasn't even, according to reporting,
02:45filed the application for reinstatement with the commissioner,
02:48which he needs to do.
02:49I mean, if you really want to play in Washington,
02:52if you really want to market those tickets,
02:54with you on the team,
02:56how about taking that first step and then presenting yourself to the 49ers like a
03:02real man,
03:03like a real professional would that's real serious.
03:06That's,
03:06that's my biggest issue is the,
03:10the he's leaving any reasonable thinking person with the idea that he's not
03:15serious about this because there's been no action and he has actions he can take.
03:22Yeah.
03:23I mean,
03:23a hundred percent.
03:24I mean,
03:24even the people who want to defend him and,
03:26you know,
03:26dump on the 49ers and this,
03:29that,
03:29and the other.
03:31Yeah.
03:32Maybe he doesn't care about the money,
03:33but if you want,
03:34I mean,
03:34this is a business,
03:35this is a job,
03:36just like we all have jobs and such that like,
03:40if you want out and you're willing to throw away the money,
03:42cool.
03:43Then tell the 49ers,
03:44he's going to have the money,
03:45but let me go.
03:46He didn't do that.
03:46He just stopped showing up.
03:47The idea that him not talking as a bonus.
03:51Nah,
03:51I mean,
03:52not really going MIA doesn't,
03:55is not solving the problem.
03:56You actually have to communicate.
03:58Yeah,
03:58no,
03:58you have to take action.
03:59Yes,
04:00you do with your employer directly.
04:03Yeah,
04:03exactly.
04:04I mean,
04:04and you know,
04:05also I was texting with a former player about this the other day and,
04:10and they're like,
04:10look,
04:11you know,
04:12it can be hard if you are a player who gets into this mode where you're
04:15just,
04:16you know,
04:17constantly in this attack against your former employer.
04:21What happens when something goes wrong with the new plays?
04:24Are you easily,
04:25are you easily going to keep that part of you shelves when you've just been
04:30in that mode for all this time?
04:32And I do think like,
04:33when we talk about the risk,
04:35I know people will say,
04:37Oh,
04:37big deal.
04:37Sign him to one year,
04:38not a lot of money.
04:39Who cares?
04:39Well,
04:40okay.
04:40Well,
04:41what happens when the ball two games in a row doesn't go his way?
04:44Is he going to yell at the quarterback?
04:45Who's his friend?
04:46Is he going to tell his friend who's the quarterback to tell the
04:49coordinator,
04:51Hey,
04:51what are we doing here?
04:52I'm not saying he will,
04:53but you can't rule anything out in this circumstance.
04:56And the last thing,
04:57anybody here in any capacity wants is Jaden Daniels to be compromised.
05:01I mean,
05:01not just because he's coming off the year that they had and,
05:04you know,
05:04they need to be better,
05:05but just why put this guy into this position?
05:08So again,
05:10and maybe Jaden Daniels doesn't feel that way,
05:12but I,
05:13you could clearly ever doing everything he can to get here for him.
05:17I don't,
05:17you know,
05:18as much as he and Adam Peters may have a relationship,
05:20it's clearly for the quarterback.
05:22So,
05:23you know,
05:23if he's going to feel a certain way about it all,
05:25then that that's not good.
05:27So to me,
05:28just the more that goes on,
05:30the bigger of the risk that becomes.
05:32And ultimately,
05:33like,
05:33I don't know any commander's fan who would say that's worth what we're
05:38seeing here.
05:38So,
05:39you know,
05:40I just,
05:41you know,
05:42again,
05:42at this point,
05:43I just feel like I'm immune to the whole thing.
05:45I only have to talk,
05:46I only talk about it as I'm sure you do,
05:47because he keeps invoking the commander in the discussion.
05:51So it's like,
05:52all right,
05:52well,
05:53I guess we have to keep mentioning it.
05:54You know,
05:54when he says things like,
05:56you know,
05:57release me off night with the commanders tomorrow,
05:59that's not a real thing.
06:00I mean,
06:00maybe it is,
06:01but you know,
06:01I mean,
06:01like,
06:01that's not a,
06:02it's not a fact.
06:03It's of him saying that.
06:05So we have to address it.
06:06So yeah,
06:07sure.
06:08Well,
06:08whatever,
06:08whatever he's going to keep doing.
06:10I mean,
06:10I think the thing is,
06:11you know,
06:12training camp is not for another month,
06:14give or take.
06:15So what is he going to keep doing this for the next four weeks?
06:18Are we going to keep getting Instagram content from him all this time?
06:22You know,
06:23I,
06:23I,
06:24yeah,
06:24no,
06:25that doesn't seem like a good time to me.
06:27No,
06:27I think the conversation that you had with somebody,
06:30you know,
06:30in the league is,
06:32is a conversation many people around the league have had,
06:34which is,
06:35you know,
06:36kind of the,
06:37there for the God,
06:37grace of God,
06:38go,
06:39I,
06:39you know,
06:39he's already proven that he'll go scorched earth on you if it doesn't work out
06:43well.
06:44And,
06:45and by the way,
06:46the odds now heavily stack that eventually he's going to go scorched earth on
06:50his next team.
06:50And the team after that as well,
06:52that appears to be who he is,
06:54or at least now,
06:55maybe it's just immaturity and he'll grow up.
06:58Um,
06:58but the,
06:59the part of that,
07:00that you then get into and extrapolate out as to,
07:04okay,
07:05well now you've put me,
07:07Brandon,
07:08I,
07:08you,
07:08I'm Adam Peters into a position where I really have to sell you now to my
07:14owner,
07:15to my ownership group,
07:16to my head coach,
07:17to everybody in the building,
07:18because you've created such an absolute,
07:22you know,
07:22the,
07:22the shenanigans make you appear to a lot of people to be a bit off.
07:28If what I meant by not saying anything,
07:31of course he should have been more professional.
07:34Of course he should have gone and gotten the knee checked and not thrown
07:36away $30 million.
07:37I mean,
07:38that that's,
07:39that's bad judgment at the very least,
07:41but you've,
07:42you've gone from,
07:43yeah,
07:44we're going to take a flyer on this guy where it didn't work out in San
07:47Francisco to,
07:48to we'd like to take a flyer on this guy from San Francisco,
07:52but now I have to sell you Josh Harris and Mitch rails on.
07:56And he's not going to be terrible for our locker room,
07:59our organization,
08:00or our community.
08:02And that's not,
08:03you know,
08:04that's not chess over checkers.
08:06If,
08:06I mean,
08:07I think you and I've talked about this.
08:08I have felt for a while now that it was more likely than not going to
08:12happen.
08:12I think you felt the same way.
08:14We've agreed that,
08:15right?
08:15I think the chances that he's hurt that with a lot of this stuff are
08:23better than 50,
08:2450 that questions that have to be answered,
08:26answered questions now have to be answered inside Ashburn that maybe
08:32didn't have to be answered a month ago.
08:35Yeah.
08:36I mean,
08:37look,
08:37I don't know if they're going to have an introduction to press conference
08:40or brand.
08:40I think something tells me they won't,
08:42but at whatever point,
08:44at whatever point Adam Peters would have to address it.
08:47And Dan Quinn as well,
08:48instead of it just being,
08:51you know,
08:51like,
08:52you know,
08:52look like when they traded for Marshawn Lattimore,
08:54obviously there were picks involved,
08:55but look,
08:55Lattimore had some questions,
08:56the injury,
08:57you know,
08:57had he worn out as welcome with new Orleans,
09:00whatever.
09:00But okay.
09:01At least you understood it from a football context.
09:03They needed a corner.
09:04This guy's been one of the better ones.
09:06Other than he was injured at that moment,
09:07he was still playing,
09:08et cetera.
09:09You know,
09:10there were some questions,
09:10but they were at least in the realm of football questions.
09:13This is veering towards something else.
09:15And again,
09:16I said this before,
09:17I don't know how I would ask this or phrase this or whatever,
09:19but like,
09:20you know,
09:20you can't keep telling us here,
09:22the,
09:22here,
09:22the check,
09:23here,
09:23the boxes of what it means to be a commander.
09:25And then trot this guy out here after everything he's done and keep
09:28pointing to that.
09:29Like,
09:29show me where he's,
09:30which boxes he's checking.
09:32The answer would be none.
09:34One.
09:34I don't know.
09:35Like the,
09:35the,
09:36the,
09:36the,
09:37the compromise that they're having to do here is significantly greater because,
09:41because of all this.
09:42And again,
09:42and yes,
09:44if,
09:44if,
09:45if,
09:45if he had just showed up,
09:47then San Francisco would have,
09:49would have released them essentially.
09:50And we wouldn't have had what's gone on here now for this past month.
09:54That's what I'm saying.
09:55So he couldn't have had as many questions to answer on the back end of this.
09:59Right.
10:00The only questions we had at that point were essentially,
10:02Hey,
10:03you know,
10:03what's his health?
10:04How's the knee?
10:06How's his knee?
10:06Does he want to really play?
10:07Okay.
10:08Guess he wants to play.
10:09Maybe he's answered that,
10:10but like the rest of it is a huge deal.
10:12And yes,
10:13I mean,
10:14you know,
10:14again,
10:15I understand that when you talk about culture and what it means to be a commander,
10:20I understand to a degree,
10:21these things are,
10:21I think they believe it.
10:23I think this is something that they preach to their players,
10:25but also it is a little bit of a,
10:27you know,
10:27selling point that any company does right to explain what it means to be part of
10:31this great organization.
10:32But it just becomes harder when you then bring in somebody who is doing all the
10:37things that you're suggesting would be not part of that.
10:42And now you're going to tell me,
10:43no,
10:44no,
10:44no,
10:44no,
10:44he's fine.
10:45Okay.
10:46Okay.
10:46I would suggest that the lack of action is an indication that,
10:53you know,
10:54you have to ask the question,
10:56does he really want to play?
10:58If he really wanted to be here,
11:00he could have taken action already,
11:02uh,
11:03to get that process going.
11:05And reportedly he has not done that.
11:07We'll see what happens with the beginning of training camp.
11:10Um,
11:11if he's applied for reinstatement at that point.
11:14Um,
11:14but I think that question's very much,
11:16uh,
11:17in play.
11:17And I think you're a hundred percent right.
11:19I mean,
11:20you've got a question at this point,
11:22um,
11:23you know,
11:23what you're bringing into your,
11:25you know,
11:25revamped culture.
11:26Look,
11:27none of this would be a conversation if a,
11:31he didn't have tantalizing talent.
11:33Obviously this wouldn't even be a thing.
11:36Uh,
11:37but B it wouldn't be a question.
11:39It would be for a lot of people because of the health.
11:41And a lot of people didn't even think he was that good.
11:43I think people who just pay attention to our team versus the rest of the
11:46league,
11:47weren't really sure how good he was.
11:49Um,
11:50but,
11:50uh,
11:51he's made it problematic for not just,
11:54you know,
11:55the debate going on among fans and media members,
11:58by the way,
11:59part of that is that he's had very little support from people close to the
12:03situation or in the game.
12:05Very little.
12:05In fact,
12:06I mean,
12:06TJ Hushmanzada,
12:07his mentor basically said,
12:09beware George Kittle said,
12:11basically beware we Dante Wittners said,
12:14you know,
12:14beware of what's your game.
12:16There've been a lot of warnings from other people,
12:18not just his videos.
12:21Um,
12:21but yeah,
12:22uh,
12:23it would have been so easy.
12:25Had he just gone in and said,
12:29I'm applying for reinstatement.
12:31My knees better.
12:32I'm healthy.
12:33I'm ready to play football.
12:34And then the 49ers would have had to make a decision.
12:37Are they going to keep them?
12:38Are they going to have them in training camp?
12:39Are they going to risk him getting injured?
12:41Where then all of a sudden they're actually on the hook for,
12:45you know,
12:46uh,
12:46the guaranteed for injury part of the contract.
12:49Um,
12:49and he hasn't done any of that.
12:51Hasn't done any of that,
12:52but by all accounts,
12:54that's what he needs to do.
12:56And also like,
12:57you know,
12:57we still don't know exactly what set it off that led him to stop showing up,
13:02which is how,
13:03which is why the 49ers.
13:04Richard Sherman says the Superbowl target number.
13:09Oh,
13:09okay.
13:10Well,
13:10I was going to say Richard Sherman.
13:11I saw the,
13:12um,
13:14the part,
13:15a part of the clip of him talking about it,
13:17saying that like,
13:18you know,
13:18the deal is if you can rehab on your own,
13:20but if you do,
13:21which is fine,
13:21you have to show up four days before the start of camp where everybody else just
13:24has to show up the eve because they want to,
13:27you know,
13:27take a long look into what you're up to and whatever.
13:29And if you don't do that,
13:30then this is where you start to have problems.
13:33So,
13:33you know,
13:34if,
13:34if that's the issue again,
13:36fine.
13:37If he thinks that he should have gotten more targets of Superbowl,
13:39or he doesn't like where his locker is located,
13:42or he thinks you have a better parking space,
13:43whatever it is,
13:45go with your agent and say,
13:47Hey,
13:48this is not acceptable for us.
13:49We'd like to get out of here.
13:51And then,
13:52you know,
13:52if you're really willing to throw the money away,
13:53say,
13:54okay,
13:54and we will accept,
13:55we will allow you to keep this as long as you let us go.
13:59All of that.
13:59I mean,
13:59you know,
14:00we can question it in another way,
14:02but that's all reasonable that that's how negotiations work.
14:06You know,
14:07go ahead,
14:08do that.
14:08But this is just a whole other,
14:10you know,
14:10it's just hard to understand what is,
14:12what is happening.
14:13I know we've been saying this now over,
14:15but by the way,
14:15I do think there's something else to consider here.
14:17And that is,
14:19you know,
14:19obviously we,
14:20we keep talking about the start of training camp as to when maybe we see some
14:24action here,
14:24because that's when would be the next opportunity for him to show up and
14:28for San Francisco's hand.
14:29Well,
14:30there is another time marker here.
14:34And that is when other free agents who are available start getting signed.
14:38Right.
14:38I mean,
14:39if,
14:39if,
14:40you know,
14:40right now there's not a lot of urgency from anybody's side,
14:43like the free,
14:44the veterans guys,
14:45they didn't want to show up for,
14:46for,
14:47for minicamp,
14:48things like that.
14:48So they're just waiting.
14:49And,
14:50you know,
14:50at this point there's no urgency.
14:52Right.
14:52So,
14:53but at some point there will be,
14:54at some point we'll start hearing Stefan Diggs is visiting so-and-so and
14:58talking to so-and-so and same with Keenan Allen or whoever else is out
15:01there.
15:02Well,
15:02if Washington is willing to wait because they know they're going for Brandon Ayouk,
15:06then it doesn't matter.
15:08But if they're not and they do decide,
15:10Hey,
15:10we do,
15:11we would like to bring at least another veteran experienced guy or whatever,
15:15then,
15:15then that has to have come sooner.
15:17So,
15:17you know,
15:19maybe that's not a definitive answer,
15:20but we'll probably get a better feel once those guys start.
15:24When do you think that'll be?
15:25I mean,
15:26Stefan Diggs is posting videos and I was going to ask you next about,
15:29I think that's where I am right now.
15:31It's like,
15:31I just,
15:32this guy doesn't seem very serious about playing,
15:36football at this point.
15:37If he were serious,
15:38he would have already applied for reinstatement.
15:41He would have shown up for OTAs.
15:42It seems like he's more interested in trying to be,
15:45you know,
15:46a social media entertainer.
15:47So if that's the case,
15:50Diggs is ready to play.
15:51He has played recently.
15:52He doesn't have the upside that Ayouk has,
15:55in my opinion,
15:56for not only this year,
15:57but the future.
15:58But at what point do you think Diggs starts to talk to teams or we start to
16:04hear about Diggs talking to teams?
16:08Yeah.
16:09I mean,
16:09you know,
16:10the conversations have been going on,
16:13you know,
16:13for,
16:13for some time,
16:14you know,
16:14once his situation cleared up with the legal system,
16:17you know,
16:17I know that,
16:18you know,
16:19there's the least general contact,
16:20you know,
16:21with,
16:21with teams,
16:22with him,
16:23with his camp.
16:23But,
16:24you know,
16:26you know,
16:26like what Gvon Miller signed,
16:27like right before a day or two,
16:29before the start of camp last year.
16:30And Dan Quinn told us the other day that,
16:32you know,
16:32those were conversations that had been going on for weeks.
16:35Not just,
16:35it wasn't just a,
16:37Hey,
16:38we looked at the mini camp practice and decided we needed help.
16:41They had been talking.
16:42So,
16:42you know,
16:43it could literally be days before the start,
16:46the start of,
16:47of camp.
16:47I mean,
16:47I guess,
16:48obviously if one team says to him,
16:49Hey,
16:49we would like you,
16:50but we can't,
16:51you know,
16:51we get nervous if you don't go.
16:53So we're ready to do this.
16:54So maybe it,
16:55it,
16:56it triggers something quicker,
16:58but you know,
16:58it may not be until a few days before training game,
17:01before the marketplace,
17:02at least at the top of the market,
17:03it's going.
17:05I mean,
17:07do you think,
17:07I mean,
17:08the one thing when I think about digs is they,
17:10he,
17:11he may not be a good fit for them.
17:13You know,
17:13like he's maybe a little bit more possession receiver than he is deep threat.
17:19Like he used to be at this age,
17:21they may see,
17:23you know,
17:23what they have as comparable.
17:25I,
17:26I think that's a reach.
17:28Um,
17:29whereas Iuke is an outlier talent wise right now.
17:33And at his age,
17:34if he's physically healthy,
17:35but do you think that,
17:37I mean,
17:37is it,
17:37is it possible that there's just no interest in digs?
17:40Cause they don't see like massive incremental value.
17:44Yeah.
17:45I think that's completely plausible.
17:46You know,
17:47we've talked about how if they're going to use more to the 12 and 13
17:51personnel,
17:52right.
17:53Then that would logically mean,
17:55you know,
17:56it's not like back in the John Riggins era where that would mean two tight
17:59ends out on the outside of the tackles and,
18:02or,
18:02you know,
18:03I guess,
18:03or have the eight back and then just like a lot run block,
18:06run block,
18:07run block.
18:07In this case,
18:08it would be more likely bait in line,
18:10kick a con clue lining outside to some degree.
18:14So if that's the case and you only have to have one other receiver on the
18:18field in a two tight end set,
18:19then,
18:20you know,
18:21I understand the big hypothetically might be better individually than
18:24everybody else they have,
18:25but don't you want Antonio Williams to get on the field?
18:27Don't you want to see Jalen Lane or,
18:32you know,
18:33Traylon Burks or whatever.
18:34So like,
18:35I think at that point,
18:36maybe it isn't as big of a deal because if it's not going to just
18:39solely be,
18:40he's the guy definitively,
18:42he's just one of the pieces.
18:43They do have a lot of pieces.
18:45So yeah,
18:45I don't,
18:46I,
18:46it's very possible.
18:47They're just not as interested in him as we all may think.
18:51And I,
18:52for the most part,
18:53I think I would be okay with that.
18:54Now,
18:54if again,
18:55if this was last year where you're going 11 personnel all the time,
18:59that might be different because now that,
19:01well,
19:01now you have a lot of spare parts.
19:02The hero looking at having to have maybe one spare part,
19:06you know,
19:06one rotation.
19:07And that's therefore he maybe is not of as much of interest as we all
19:10might think.
19:12All right.
19:12We're talking to Ben standing,
19:14of course,
19:14at Ben standing on X,
19:16Ben covers the team and writes about it on his sub stack.
19:21I would urge everybody to subscribe.
19:23It's just a couple of,
19:24a couple of dollars a month.
19:26It's totally worth it.
19:27He has done depth chart.
19:31One point zero where every position right now stands a month before training
19:37camp.
19:37We'll get to that in a moment.
19:38But I was talking about this story that Ben Solak wrote for ESPN.com this
19:44morning.
19:44I don't know if you saw it,
19:45but I knew that there was a lot of turnover and coordinators,
19:50but,
19:51and I even guessed at one point without really doing the math on it,
19:54that this has to be one of the biggest turnovers and coordinators in NFL
19:57history.
19:58It is in fact,
19:59the most turnover in offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators in
20:05one off season in NFL history,
20:0735 new coordinators,
20:1021 new offensive coordinators,
20:1314 new defensive coordinators.
20:15And he wrote about the 10 most intriguing essentially,
20:17and both Blau and,
20:21and Durante Jones were among the top 10 that were most interesting with the
20:26most questions.
20:27Did you read this or not?
20:28I have not.
20:30Okay.
20:30So one of the things I wanted to ask you about is in,
20:33in writing about Blau,
20:36he writes that the challenge here is marrying two systems,
20:42the Kingsbury system and the Ben Johnson system.
20:46And then one of the big takeaways is it took a while just for the Ben
20:50Johnson system in Chicago for Caleb Williams to get comfortable.
20:55They struggled to get to the line of scrimmage on time early in this season.
20:59They had a lot of those growing pains,
21:01but he writes,
21:02look,
21:02if Blau can land the plane and blend these two offenses,
21:06there's a chance Washington's offense is one of the league's most dangerous
21:10down the home stretch.
21:12This might be the coolest,
21:13the coolest thing we see all season.
21:17Marrying,
21:18I think implies the offense is going to be 50% Kingsbury,
21:2350% Ben Johnson.
21:25Do you agree with that?
21:29No,
21:30I don't either.
21:32You know,
21:33look,
21:33obviously this is all a guessing game by all of us,
21:35to what degree percentages.
21:37And,
21:37you know,
21:38even Drante Jones,
21:38we're all assuming you're just going to bring Brian Flores.
21:41And he's like,
21:41well,
21:42I've also worked for Marvin Lewis and other coaches.
21:44So,
21:44you know,
21:45who knows what spin there,
21:46each of them is going to put on it.
21:48But in this case,
21:49no,
21:50I think,
21:50I think Quinn made it pretty clear.
21:53They're not looking to keep the cliff Kings very often.
21:55If they did,
21:56they would have kept cliff Kingsbury.
21:58They're,
21:58they're looking to do something different.
22:00And obviously just simply going under center more and no,
22:03and,
22:03and huddling that itself is radically different.
22:06Now,
22:06can you keep some of the past patterns?
22:08Sure.
22:09I'm sure there are plays where Jaden Daniels,
22:10especially in shotgun says,
22:12Hey,
22:12I really liked this.
22:14David Blatt is not an idiot.
22:15He's going to say,
22:16cool.
22:16We can keep some of that.
22:18I mean,
22:18David,
22:18and also,
22:19you know,
22:20we,
22:21we all understand that David Blatt,
22:22this is a big mystery because he has not,
22:25he's barely been a coach,
22:26let alone a coordinator,
22:27but he has been here the last two years.
22:29He isn't coming in as a person,
22:31as a personality,
22:32completely cold,
22:33the way Ben Johnson did with Chicago.
22:36So,
22:37you know,
22:37they,
22:38they've had successes together.
22:39They've seen what's worth,
22:41what hasn't.
22:41And I'm sure that gives him a big leg up again.
22:44He has,
22:45we don't,
22:46we haven't seen the experience.
22:47We just have to see him implement everything.
22:48What's he going to do?
22:49you know,
22:50when the,
22:50when the game is live and it's third and seven,
22:53what do you do?
22:54But the,
22:55the,
22:56the implementation,
22:57all that,
22:57all those aspects,
22:59I'm not really that worried about that part,
23:02part,
23:02because again,
23:02I don't think they're going to do,
23:03it's not like a 50,
23:0550 marriage here.
23:06It's more just like here.
23:08What are the things that we want to keep cool?
23:09Now let's go throw out the rest and come over here with this.
23:13And you know,
23:14he's been working with Jaden on this again.
23:16I don't,
23:17I'm not saying that Ben Johnson was more of a,
23:19you know,
23:20like veering towards like a traditional coach,
23:22like dictatorship scenario.
23:23Like here's what we're doing,
23:24but it was probably more of that than it will be here because David Blau is,
23:30you know,
23:30coming in completely fresh to the whole thing,
23:32but also he's already been here.
23:34He has a relationship.
23:35They don't have to my way or the highway,
23:37the whole situation.
23:38All right.
23:39You put out your first depth chart.
23:42How many will you have before the final cut down?
23:45I mean,
23:46I don't know.
23:47I mean,
23:47honestly,
23:48nine,
23:48we'll go to double digits.
23:50No,
23:50no,
23:50no,
23:50no,
23:50no,
23:51I mean,
23:51honestly,
23:51this could be the one.
23:52Cause I,
23:53I was like,
23:53no,
23:55you're going to do this five more times.
23:57No,
23:58no,
23:58no.
23:58I'll do 53 five more times,
24:00but it was too early to do that.
24:02I figured this is more like,
24:04instead of saying who's going to make the team,
24:06this is like,
24:06okay,
24:06let's look at the people who are trying to make the team and try to,
24:10what's the heart.
24:11What was the hardest position to,
24:12to create a depth chart for?
24:18I mean,
24:19I think the receiver,
24:20I mean,
24:20not even,
24:21you know,
24:21not even factoring in the,
24:23the IUC aspect,
24:25you know,
24:26again,
24:26like is,
24:27is anybody going to emerge as more than just part of a committee?
24:31Is anybody going to be able to step up and look at me?
24:34Maybe that is Antonio Williams,
24:35the guy with,
24:35you know,
24:37the blank slate that we just don't know about him in the NFL level.
24:40You know,
24:41again,
24:41it's not like Jalen Lane,
24:42you know,
24:43was able to show a ton last year for a variety of reasons.
24:45Is it possible?
24:46You know,
24:47he's got great speed and maybe he's a guy that can,
24:49that can emerge.
24:50You know,
24:50I know there's people out there excited about what Traylon Burks can do
24:53coming in here from the start of a year,
24:55rather than halfway through.
24:58And he's,
24:58you know,
24:58far removed from the injuries and things like that,
25:00et cetera,
25:01et cetera.
25:01Then there's also the,
25:02you know,
25:03how many are going to be kept,
25:04who's making the team.
25:05So I just think the receiver situation as a whole,
25:08and I would also just sort of combine it with the other skillset position
25:12at running back.
25:14You know,
25:15is Bill going to definitely be the lead?
25:18We,
25:19you know,
25:19we haven't seen him,
25:20his work in the,
25:21in the passing game because he was out.
25:22So,
25:23and also,
25:23you know,
25:24they just haven't been doing as much.
25:25So what does that look like?
25:26If he's able to show he can block and be a viable receiver,
25:30then maybe he is getting,
25:31you know,
25:3260%,
25:3265% of the work.
25:34If not,
25:35then we're looking at is Rashad white.
25:37You know,
25:37it's just a,
25:37you know,
25:38sort of a 50,
25:3850 with Kay Tron Allen,
25:40Jeremy Nichols filling in.
25:41So I think that,
25:42you know,
25:42those situations could be drastically different.
25:44You know,
25:45if we're talking sort of fantasy football ish,
25:47I don't,
25:48wouldn't know what is that going to tell people right now,
25:50because of those things are more up in the air.
25:52Whereas like tight end,
25:53you know,
25:54I think it's pretty clear who's the one,
25:56who's the two,
25:56who's the three.
25:57And the only real question is,
25:59is,
25:59you know,
25:59Colson Yankoff,
26:00the four again,
26:01you know,
26:02so that's different than these other groups where the hierarchy feels like
26:05it's kind of all over the place.
26:07Um,
26:09what,
26:09just give me an idea of what you think the starting secondary for DBs,
26:14let's just assume they're in some sort of base defense with 3d lineman or
26:194d lineman.
26:20If it's 34,
26:21four linebackers,
26:22who are the four DBs when they go out on the football field for the first
26:27time against Philadelphia in September?
26:29Yeah.
26:30I mean,
26:30I would assume Trey Amos is one corner.
26:32I'm going to assume Mikey Sanders still is another one.
26:36Uh,
26:36obviously Nick cross at safety and,
26:39you know,
26:40until further notice,
26:40I would say Will Harris feels like sort of the safest bet.
26:44Obviously they talked last year about when he went,
26:46when he went out,
26:47how that,
26:47you know,
26:48hurt their communication in the secondary.
26:50He's like the more natural free safety.
26:53It feels like,
26:53I mean,
26:54I think say Quan Martin has more upside,
26:56but we saw how his year kind of went.
26:58So I would say Harris would be the fourth guy right now.
27:02And unless they show us some other type of variation.
